This is Best Butcher in town hands down. No need to look or go anywhere else. The owners are amazing.

I needed a whole beef tenderloin for a party. Called to see if they had any available, and they were incredibly helpful! Went over the next day, and they actually had whole beef tenderloins in their meat case. I selected one and they offered to tie it for me - they definitely know what they are doing!! When I checked out, a really nice gentleman got me signed up for their rewards program, which I will be using because I'm definitely going back!! The tenderloin was wonderful!! read more

Baumann's Fine Meats - Beef tenderloin - Meat Shops Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

This is my go to for fine meats but also IMHO, the best source for bacon. The chops, veal and streaks are wonderful and the ground beef for hamburgers excellent. Well informed people behind the counter with lots of useful advice. The all beef hot dogs are a little too salty for my taste and the brats are a bit too lean as compared to G & W but they are for sure tasty. Highly recommended. read more

Old school, employee owned business, great place, staff is wonderful, wish all places were like this.

I'm in my "butcher meat only era" I'm tired of grocery stores playing with my food and packaging ground chuck that never produces fat when you cook it. I came to Baumann's and they had the perfect ground beef for grilling burgers. They ground their meat daily from the best cuts of beef and they bake their hamburger buns daily. When I cooked the burgers the meat was juicy. We like our burgers medium well. We even overcooked a few and they were still juicy. I will definitely be back read more

Expert butcher services! Excellent meat and poultry choices! Butchers are extremely knowledgeable of different cuts of meat

Excellent, local mom and pop meat market. Great service and very helpful/knowledgeable. Grabbed 2 tri tips (which are very hard to find here) and some andouille sausage. The tri tip was trimmed properly and perfect taste after 3 hours of smoking. The andouille was flavorful and juicy. This is now our go to store for any special occasion meal need. read more

Stopped by late one evening needing a whole turkey to cook the following morning for an event later that night and these guys pulled through and had one ready for me to pick up that next morning. Quality product and the customer service was top notch. read more

We have been longtime customers of Baumann's, and I can't believe I haven't written this well deserved five-star review yet! We have consistently had wonderful experiences that have resulted in the most incredible at-home dinners. We've picked up our fair share of burgers and steaks for the grill, but recently they've helped with more unique items. On my last visit, I told the man behind the counter that I was making birria tacos, so I needed a meat that would work well in a french oven over several hours. He picked out the perfect cut, and cut it into big chunks so I wouldn't have to do that at home. While they're preparing your meat, you can peruse a ton of pickles, pre-made items, and other things your kitchen probably needs. The staff here is great, and during our last visit, one of the employees complimented my sons on their excellent and polite behavior, which made their day. Parking is slim and is located on the side of the building, but we've never had a problem getting a spot. We'll be back again soon! read more

Great prices & choices. They communicate well about orders just the best butcher someone could ask for

Great meat counter and the entire staff is so friendly and personable. I mentioned that I discovered them through numerous Yelp friends and they thought that was so cool. We bought a couple of Rib Eyes, that grilled up so nicely. They were tender and juicy. They informed us as we chatted, that Monday is usually not a good day to shop. Their inventory is low after a busy weekend and deliveries begin to arrive on Tuesday. Brad asked about certain cuts of meat and they informed him that they'd be happy to special order them for us. That is going the extra step in customer service. I'm not a fan of beef jerky, but the SO is so we gave it try on the recommendation of Chris Z.. I am here to tell you now, I like beef jerky. Theirs is the best jerky I have had, and will set the standard for any other jerky I try in the future. They offer some grocery items and many were hometown products. It was good to see an independent meat counter supporting other hometown vendors. Team work, breeds success for our city. I will be back this coming Tuesday, and many more to follow. read more

Baumann's Fine Meats - Beef Jerky - Meat Shops Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

Wonderful beef tenderloin, the young man who helped me was fabulous! The seasoning was the best!

This place is ideal if you're running low on meat and need curbside pick-up for burgers, brats, chicken or steaks. The places where I had previously ordered meat (for delivery) ran out so I'm thankful that I found Baumann's Fine Meats. Note: I strongly recommend their burgers with house seasoning. I called and made my order over the phone. They have a side parking lot just west of the building. They set my order on my backseat. No contact needed. read more

Unbelievable quality and great service. Best place in town. Kenny took care of everything.

Long term good meat products, friendly service. Easy parking. Bought my pre baked turkey here.

I had made plans to visit St. Louis and stayed an extra day to visit friends and cook them a big pot roast dinner. If you want meat done right, you need to go to a place that knows and respects their product, and that's definitely Baumann's. They quickly sliced up two perfect 3lb roasts for me that fit perfectly in the Dutch oven. 4 hours of simmering later and I had some perfectly tender and flavorful roasts. I'd certainly head back to Baumann's for a fine cut of meat in the future! read more

Baumann's Fine Meats - A fresh cut three pound roast. - Meat Shops Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

Don't even think about going anywhere else to get fresh cuts of meat. Quality products, excellent service, and that damn good rub they put on the meat for free makes us happy customers for over 3 years. We have treated dinner party and BBQ guests to Baumann's burgers, brats, jerky, steaks, pork tenderloin, beef tenderloin, mort's chicken, imported local bison burgers, house prepared chicken wings, and house prepared BBQ ribs. Our guests are always happy when we grill meats from Baumann's. If you want to provide a special meal for family and friends and are willing to spend a few bucks, get the beef tenderloin. They give you easy cooking instructions that help you make it turn out perfect. We have ordered it with the rub for our friends Christmas dinner the past 2 years and it is now a tradition because it's that delicious and worth the $$. Lets just say Baumann's makes us look like kings of the grill. I just can't stop coming back for more! read more

Fresh meat heaven! This is probably the best way to describe this place. I've been meaning to come here to purchase some steaks and finally, last week on Saturday afternoon I did. They had a few delectable looking ribeyes, t-bones, NY strip steaks, and filets. I went with the ribeye and a strip steak and both were so mouthwateringly delicious. I can almost still taste them. I am not sure if you could get a smaller cut and I didn't bother to ask since I was in a hurry but I ended up with 16 oz cuts. Their steaks are definitely worth getting even though they are slightly more than the prices at the grocery store. As far as the service goes, this place is top-notch. I came in and was immediately greeted by a very friendly woman who was at the cash register. She was busy tending to some customers who wanted to try some of their samples but she noticed me come in and immediately asked if I needed any assistance. I ended up with a great, fast service and came out of there very happy. This place have all sorts of other meat products and I can't wait to come back! read more

Walk on in and be prepared to have your smell bell go crazy. Love the smell of woods, spices and meat. Brings back memories as a child. They have a fully stocked meat counter for your picking and forZen as well. Their house BBQ rub is tooooooooo die for! 6 oz bacon wrapped filet is $7.99/each. 8oz is$9.99. They will even sprinkle it with their house steak seasoning, a.k.a. can you say addictive. There isn't a mouthwatering Emoji for this. He's giving custom cut your size. But around for a long time, lots of history, and well rooted. Best to check it out for yourself. The staff are pleasant and very helpful. It's a bit of a drive from my house, but if I'm in the area, I will stop in again. read more

Baumann's Fine Meats - Yes it is. - Meat Shops Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

Baumann's probably has the best meat in the city. I've been going there ever since I moved here 6 years ago. I did my fair share of research too- tried the other two big guys in the area and Baumann's meat was just better. So that is where I have been going the past years. However, they have a bunch of younger guys working there- I don't know the situation- whether they are apprenticing or family members or not, but if I go in there and the older gentleman isn't there who I assume is the manager/ owner, customer service is out. Baumann's is a butcher shop. Butcher shops sell premium cuts of meat and specialty cuts of meat. Its premium service and I expect to pay a premium price both for the quality of the meat and the expertise of the butcher. If I am at a fast food place- i expect to get pretty terrible food and have learned to expect pretty terrible service. Thats what a 5 dollar total gets you. I expect more at a professional place like Baumann's. So back to the customer service: the older gentleman who is clearly in charge is alright and he seems to run a tight ship. If he is not there, like today I almost always have a terrible experience. I went in today for a special order- not complicated just not precut and in the case. The young guy taking the order looked at the other guy and rolled his eyes, and went to the back refrigerator. He came out with the piece of meat and put it down/measured/cut it- each thing he did, he sighed like an impetuous child asked to put his toys away. Look, your meat could be the most heavenly cuts of meat on the planet hand sliced by angels and packages by supermodels, but if the guy taking your order acts like me asking him to do his actual job is as bad as asking him to help me move, its just not worth it. I'm sorry you don't like your job or working or whatever, but I am not going to shop at a place that treats me like I am putting them out for asking for a 15 pound boston butt. So long Baumann's. I live oh so close to you but am more than willing to drive the extra 15 minutes for a better experience- even if the meat is not as good. read more

First rating in many years. Why? They deserve it. A cut of meat that simply cannot be obtained at a grocer. Hell, can't even get this good at a restaurant. Baumann's knows meat. Period. I didn't realize the difference until I experienced it for myself. Can't go back now - you won't be disappointed read more

If zero stars were an option, I wouldn't hesitate at all. I just called this company to make an inquiry and they hung up on me. That was extremely unprofessional and unnecessary. read more

Baumann's seems to be slipping in quality and service. I have heard they were bought out so maybe new owners are getting meat from somewhere else. But when you get over $100 in ribs and mention the next time that they were not as good as usual. The kid behind counter says "hmmm...that's too bad"! Time to go to Straub's. Hope they get their act together, we have been going there forever, not that they seem to care. read more

Great place! The andouille is one our favorite. You really need to experience the butcher shop

We have been shopping here for over 30 years and have always loved every purchase. Will be picking up meat for Christmas party next week!

Absolutely recommend. I was hesitant to have them do they seasoning on our ribeyes however they turned out fantastic and made it easier on myself. read more

You won't mess up coming here for your meat. Best smoked wings and ribs around! The rubs they have to offer are great too.

Great butcher with a selection of their own marinated meats. The Mort's chicken is fantastic. Well worth a stop.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review about Baumann. Really the only sentence you need to read is, I WOULD EAT A SHOE COVERED IN BAUMANN DRY RUB. If you haven't gotten a steak from baumann's and grilled it yourself then you haven't lived. I buy their homemade beef jerky every time I go. It's like crack, except it's beef. Filets, strips, porter house, pork, ribs, t-bones, it's like a candy shop of meat. I wish my house smelt like this place. As far as service goes this about this place like the 4 seasons of butcher shops. They will answer any questions you have about meat with a smile. Preparation, suggestions, what's good right now, etc. Did I mention the dry rub. Seriously it's like a magic potion for all meat. Just about every special occassion that we cook at our house comes from baumann's because really after you've had it, there's no other options. read more

Saturday shopping. Couldn't figure out where to park. Just parked in a small lot adjacent to the building. Walked past the hearing aid store, figuring they didn't hear me pull in. Entered. The smell is amazing old-time butcher shop aroma. Spent some time investigating the chill case. Was approached. I said I'd never been there before. He invited me to look around.I asked if there were any specials . . . ah, no. Whoops, excuse me! I guess I asked the wrong question. One woman checking out was having a major conversation with the cashier lady . . . about family and blah, blah, blah. In the meantime, I'm just lookin' around. Without any help. And it's a small joint. One woman at the case I engaged in conversation, I asked if she'd been there before. No. So, some comaraderie, and we chatted a bit. She ordered her stuff. I ordered my stuff. A different guy got my order together, and he was much more personable than the first guy. The guy who got my meat also checked me out, while the other woman got checked out by the cashier lady. We both got a coupon for a free 6-ounce bacon-wrapped filet, being first-time customers. I spent $50 on four boneless pork chops ($13.87), which were crazy beautiful thick and good for stuffing, and four 8-ounce bacon-wrapped filets ($8.40 each). He asked if I wanted rub. I chose rub for the pork chops. We grilled the filets, and they were good, beefy flavorful. We used our own rub. Froze the pork chops for another day. read more

I recently moved away from STL, and this is one of many places I'm missing to death. The andouille sausage (they make it themselves, as it should be) is soo much better than what you can buy at the grocery store, and very reasonable. In fact, the prices are really quite reasonable overall--not much more than what you'd pay in a grocery store if you purchased full price. Makes it very easy to support this fine local business! Service is very friendly. Free bacon wrapped filet coupon if it's your first time in (we never used ours before moving....whoops!). Someone typically asks me what I'm planning on making, and gives some good suggestions. I wouldn't consider myself a super-frequent visitor here, but the people at the counter always made me feel like a valued customer--throwing in an extra sausage here and there, small talk, etc. I always parked on one of the side streets off Brentwood Blvd--both my husband and I had trouble getting out of the parking lot without bottoming out. read more

Tucked in a discreet building at the intersection of Manchester and Brentwood, this little butcher / meat store is any carnivore's dream! Butchers alone are hard to find these days, but this shop has everything you could possibly want. From grass-fed beef to lamb, bison, and even duck, it's all there! The owner is also super nice and will tell you everything you need to know about his home-made sausages, smoking wood pallets, and delicious beef jerky. Freshly made or air tight and frozen cuts, dried and smoked links, it's all there! I hear they do excellent catering as well, but I've never tried. Wish my roomies weren't vegetarian so I could make up some occasion for a nice roasted duck or rack of lamb. YUM! Anyhow, I highly recommend this place. Not only for its excellent and friendly service, but also for the amazing quality of the products you will find there. Now, let's go cook that filet mignon shall we? read more

As previously stated, trying to find a butcher anymore is like trying to find Diet Dr. Pepper at a restaurant, they just don't exist. I recently was looking to smoke about 18 pounds of pork on my new smoker for a party, and with a quick call, I found that these guys had the best meat price, all the necessary accessories that I needed (rub, wood chunks for smoking, etc.), and were able to get it ready and put it aside for when I could come and pick up without a deposit or anything. The meat quality was great, and the people that worked there were definitely a help when I was looking for a little guidance on preparation. I haven't been able to hit it up for any other dinners yet because we're still working through the leftovers, but I know where I'm going from now on. Hats off to a great little shop that is still succeeding even when right across the street from a Schnucks. read more

If you've ever driven through Brentwood, you most likely passed this place without ever noticing it. I've lived in the area for years and have passed it countless times. Today was my first visit inside. This small butcher shop has spices, rubs, wood chips, meats, poultry, and sausages. If you grill, you need to pay them a visit. The employees are very helpful and friendly. They cut to order, and will prepare your cuts with thier house rub if asked. Their prices are very reasonable, and you leave with that oh-so-good feeling that you've helped the little guy out. Schnucks is right across the street. read more

1. Best cuts of meat I've seen in St. Louis (and they know how/where to make custom cuts). 2. Most knowledgeable butchers in St. Louis (including Kenrick's, Straub's, and LeGrands). 3. Friendliest butcher in town...each time I visit they take me in the back to show me how they "do what they do." 4. Usually give something free when I stop in (rubs, beef sticks, small filet mignon). If you are an avid Backyard BBQer, an ocasional griller, or a Competitive BBQ Winner, Baumann's Fine Meats is the only place to buy meat in St. Louis. read more

Great butcher shop. I came in for three bacon wrapped filets along with their famous beef jerky. Both were excellent. The beef was especially good as it was rolled in the in-store meat rub. It was so juicy and tasty. Everyone loved them. I went at open so it wasn't crowded. The owner was the one who helped me. Very friendly and helpful. Its a nice local butcher shop and I will be back. read more

I grew up with Schnuck's, Dierberg's and Kenrick's service and never could find the level of service I desired. So I started seeking out a new butcher, and after trying a few and now Baumann's, I can say this is our new butcher! The first time we went in we picked up a couple pork chops and some of their beef jerky on account of a previous Yelp review. Upon checkout they asked if we'd been in before, we said no, and they threw in some coupons for the next time! After an amazing dinner with those thick cut pork chops we returned to pick up some food for the Memorial Day weekend. This time it was the bacon-wrapped filets and a brisket. Both were phenomenal pieces of meat. I appreciated the trimming of the brisket as I still struggle with getting the thickness just right for a long smoke. read more

Baumann's Fine Meats - Wonderful bacon-wrapped filets - Meat Shops Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

I cannot say enough good things about this butcher! The shop is a classic butcher counter staffed by friendly, knowledgeable people and filled with all necessary meats and meat accessories (e.g. rubs, wood chips for smoking, sauces, etc.). My fiance and I picked up some 8 oz. filets, they were perfect and reasonably priced! While in the shop we were greeted with samples of the best BBQ wings I've ever eaten. The wings are available to order, precooked to their blackened-tip perfection; I'll definitely be purchasing some in the near future. After this experience, we will be getting all of our meat from Baumann's. read more

Not only do they have great prices and great meat, but you can tell they love what they do. I asked them for advice on how to smoke a rib roast and they happily talked to me for probably over 10 minutes on tips and tricks including different woods I could use and the desired effects. My rib roast turned out amazing. Also, they sell smoked chicken wings that are the best I've ever had. I highly recommend them if they are available. read more
