Meat Fair is a local, neighborhood market that sells an array of meats, produce, vegetables and other items. The store is located at 2315 Chambers Road in Moline Acres. After visiting the store a handful of times over the years and can honestly say that I appreciate what they have to offer. I love the idea of selling local product as these items are not always readily available in the larger grocery chains. This past summer, I stopped in at Meat Fair to purchase a few items for the holiday. As the cashier checked out my order, I noticed a basket full of green tomatoes! I was thrilled as this brought back many childhood memories of my grandmother making batches at a time for my family and I. Needless to say, I grabbed a handful and got BACK in the checkout and made a second purchase! Fast forward to my most recent visit... In need of a few pieces of smoked meat, I immediately thought of Meat Fair. Being that I had an hour to spare for lunch, I decided to take the drive over to Chambers Road. As I entered the store I grabbed a number from the ticket dispenser. I immediately noticed that the cashier was on her way out of the store (maybe it was her lunch time as well). There were a total of 4 patrons (myself included) in the store. An older gentlemen was being assisted at the fish counter while two females were being helped at the meat counter. I browsed a bit before I made my way over to the case filled with an abundance of chicken, beef, pork, and turkey. I waited patiently while the others placed their orders. The first person behind the counter finished with his customer and walked to the register to complete her transaction. The second customer placed her order and walked to the register while the gentleman who was assisting her decided to walk outside (apron and all). After standing at the counter for a couple of minutes, I decided that it would be best that I leave. As I walked out of the store, I noticed the worker casually talking to someone parked on the parking lot. Shaking my head in disgust, I simply got into my vehicle and drove off. I'm not sure what was going on with the staff on this particular day but I cannot justify supporting a business that has no respect for their customers. It saddens me quite a bit because I am sure there are a lot of people in this particular neighborhood that frequent the store as their options are limited due to various reasons. I may return some day but for now, I will spend my hard, earned money elsewhere. read more
