I hosted a lunch for my mom's birthday at my house and quite literally everything (food wise) was taken care by Straubs.We placed an order online a couple weeks in advance and it was so simple. We ordered chicken salad sandwiches on croissants, and turkey/ roast beef on rolls. The quality of the sandwiches is wonderful and everything is so fresh. They have such amazing chicken salad. We also ordered Italian salad, fruit salad, and cake. Everything was ready to go when I went to pick it up at the designated time. With how busy life is, it was super appreciated how prompt everything was. I do wish condiments like mayo and mustard were included- so definitely make sure you plan on picking some up when you stop by. Would definitely recommend! read more

Very small, luxurious and pricey grocery store. Reminds me of a toned down Erewhon, or a smaller AJ's (an upscale chain we have in Arizona). Lots of appealing prepared food and also quite a bit of deli/seafood options. This is the type of place where you stop in for a few gourmet items, not where you buy your typical items like cereal or milk because the prices are about 75% higher than your typical Kroger. A charming place but not somewhere you shop a lot unless you're wealthy. read more

I love this Straubs. It's walkable for us so super convenient. It is definitely more expensive than other grocery stores but the staff is so kind. One of the cashiers gave my kids dum dums when we were there for no other reason than to be kind. I also love that they have Graeters ice cream here!! We lived 3 years in Louisville and fell in LOVE with Graeters ice cream, so whenever we're missing that time in our life, we have a little Graeters from Straubs. Plus the store is usually very clean, somewhat hard to navigate with a large stroller but doable! read more

This place is small and great! We always come here for the sour cream potato salad. It's one of the best I have ever had. We were able to sample the chicken curry salad and loved it that I took some home back to Texas. It's filled with apples, cashews, raisins, and of course other ingredients. We had a catered holiday meal, corned beef dinner for two. I was a little disappointed this time. Size of servings was very disproportionate.Cabbage took up over 50% of plate. Servings size for carrots and potatoes was small but adequate, barely . But my greatest disappointment was the corned beef. It was sliced "paper thin" more like lunch meat, with only 3 slices. Tasted fine but on the dry side, definitely could not call it a corned beef dinner. Especially for the usual Straubs inflated price-which I don't mind if the value equals the $$$.Oddly enough , there was an employee walking around in the store, giving out samples of corn beef to customers. The corned beef samples were thick, chunky and juicy, very good, and even had a sweet mustard sauce, also very good. It was a sharp contrast to the corned beef we were served. I really like Straub's market and enjoy walking around and shopping here. I have been coming here for years. The location is quite convenient for me. There is ample parking on the lot. The employees are friendly. They carry some of my favorite items, such as: as huge variety of Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream flavors and Kobe Beef patties for grilling burgers at $2.50 a patty. It's my main stop for picking up pints of Jeni's ice cream when I don't feel like driving down to the CWE to visit Jeni's, in person. I would say their prices are hit-n-miss, some items are prices high and some items aren't. I would suggest to check the sales ad for savings and the signs out front as you walk in. I love their fresh made items, such as: seasonal salsa varieties, chicken salad, soups, desserts, etc. It's a high end store with a casual vibe and feel. read more

Since moving to STL Straub's in T&C has been a regular stop and our Thanksgiving turkey source. While in WG a few weeks back we had a desire for cheesesteaks. All Straub locations offer a hogie roll, that when oven-warned is almost like a Amoroso roll. So we popped in to get some rolls. Normally, Dierberg's butchers thinly slice top round for use in the cheesesteak. But we thought no need for a second stop, we have enjoyed other meats from Straubs let's get it here. We asked the Straub's butcher if it was possible to get one pound of top round thinly sliced. He said of course. We left to counter to get rolls, provolone cheese and onions. We returned to the counter and the meat was wrapped and ready for us. We returned home, unwrap the meat and find a single 1.46 pound slab of meat. So much for saying you could slice it thinly. I emailed Straub's and never received a rely. Mistakes are human nature, but saying you can do something you did not and not replying to my emails make me think Straub's does not value my business. read more

For a long time I thought the best grocery store for prepared foods was Whole Foods. That was until my mom started bringing home Straub's prepared food, and then, I more or less stopped frequenting Whole Foods. I really do love Straub's. It keeps that city grocery store feel while still stocking a ton of different foods. That's probably why they are only located in areas that seem more "urban." I doubt we will be seeing a Straub's in O'Fallon or Arnold anytime soon...just not their scene. Though my my meat eating days are long gone, I have no forgotten how incredibly delicious their fried chicken is. Nor have I forgotten the wonderful creaminess of their ham salad. Also, if you are grilling, the apple bratwurst are probably some of the best I have ever had. Actually, writing this review is enough to make me fall off the vegetarian wagon, I need to focus on other aspects of this place before I start head out to McDonald's and do something I'll regret. They also have great dips for bringing to parties. I am a huge fan of the guacamole and their perky pepper dip is something completely different...sweet and spicey and creamy all at the same time. A word of warning: use the spoons they put out with the samples or you will get verbally harassed by the deli lady. She can be brutal and she takes her job monitoring those crackers and dips SERIOUSLY. Minus one star because, as well know, Straub's is proud of their little grocery store, and they CHARGE for that pride. One of our other favorite places to visit. They have a nice soup selection of 8 at any time. Clayton has more of a selection though. Walking in hits you with a coolness to your senses. Your nose tingles with the array of smells ranging from the coffee to the fliers, produce, etc. easy to just take stroll through and see what's new as well as visiting through the familiar isles. Yes the prices may be a bit steeper than other grocers but they are for convince and flare. There is so much to take in but wonderfully comforting and appealing. Everyone is friendly and knows the regulars. We often stop for the charred tomato soup or chicken salad mini sandwiches. The Greek slaw is the bomb!!!! Mouthwatering, tangy, sweet, vinegary and spice all at once monopolizing your taste buds. They offer pre packaged meals and a microwave to warm up your purchase. Freshly made sandwiches to your liking but they have an amazing selection of menu ideas listed . Some of the best dressings or sauces all made in house. Want a gorgeous cut of steak.. This is your place. Marinated meats of all flavor a, even ethnic... This is your place. Soup your thing but can't decide on one.... This is your place. Need a Jelly Belly or Bissinger fix.... Again this is your place. So much more I have failed to represent, well then check it out and add to the list of amazing treats they offer. Warning it is a bit pricey but plenty of options that won't break your wallet. Check out the wall case at the checkout with a selection of sodas that will make your head spin. My local Straub's is the Clayton store, but I spite-shop here because I keep seeing people from Webster Groves shopping in MY Straub's. This Straub's is less triumphant than the Clayton store. But just as much of a rabbit-warren, if you are into getting lost in maze-like stores. In terms of groceries, they have everything you need. The prepared foods aren't quite as fantastic though. The workers here are nice. The shoppers are just ok. Too many middle-aged ladies. Not enough middle-aged men. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A YOUNG PERSON HERE. Update: I have now seen two young people here. Vexingly, the parking lot runs uphill, so you can't ride your cart out to the car. read more

I am a fan of Straub's. I don't really shop there weekly but I certainly stop in particularly for the pre-made meals. I find so many groceries have this pre-made food now and it all looks really nice but when you take it home and eat it it's not very good and disappointing. For me Straub's does not disappoint in this area. My favorite Straub's item of all time is the Pasta De Noche. It has sun dried tomatoes, pine nuts, etc. I have been eating it forever. I think their deli is the best grocery deli in St. Louis. It's the best meat counter anywhere too! read more

I stopped in at Straubs the other day while getting ready to hit Bread Co.. I have never been into Straubs, but heard good things about it. Again, as usual I didnt have much time to browse around, but after my experience at Culinaria, I was FAR more intrigued and excited by Culinaria than by Straubs.. Nothing negative against Straubs, bc I am no grocer snob. I cant speak for really any of the products bc I didnt buy anything, but they seemed to have a good variety of products and some hard to find and unique items. They were smoking meats outside that smelled delicious, and the bakery items looked really good~!!!! You are right on Amanda. This is what I've been looking for! I always go to Whole Foods for cheese, dips, yummy prepared foods and such. Not any more, look out Whole Foods because Straub's just stole my heart (and my wallet is soon to follow). Nice little produce section with enough other stuff that you could probably do all your shopping here if needed. I was a little disappointed by the floral section, but it is winter so I'll hold my judgement until spring. All I could fine was tulips and roses. Boring. Straub's is a place where I only go for certain things that I need. It is expensive and small, but it's a great place for high quality unique foods that you can't find in other places. My favorite areas are: - Flowers. They always last a LONG time and are very fresh. - Deli/prepared foods. Always fresh and delicious. Unique things. They offer samples and are very friendly at the counter. - Bakery. The baked goods are delicious and they have the best raspberry crunch bars EVER!! Also their hamburger buns always are good. - Meat counter. I am a vegetarian, but my boyfriend is not. He never complained about my lack of meat preparation for him. But I decided he needed a little more meat in his diet. He's a growing man! The meat/seafood counter are really nice. The guys who work there are super patient and nice with me in explaining how to prepare stuff. I usually get prepared fish there. They have a lot of interesting varieties! After taking a job less than a mile from this Straub's location, I now find myself here at least once a week. Not a huge store, but you can tell the size is on purpose. This location has a coffee shop, butcher, and a prepared food section all tucked nicely into the rest of the typical grocery aisles. Quality is high and yes, a little pricey, but I don't do my everyday shopping here. Perfect for some nice specialty dinner items and they have very reasonable lunch items available. This location is special as it has gorgeous floor to ceiling windows in the front of the store which are perfect to take in as you sip a cup of coffee, eat lunch or as I do, hunch over your laptop eating a cupcake. Parking is plentiful but the lot can be busy as it is semi-shared space. Staff are always friendly and helpful. read more

I finally settled on a 3-star rating for this place because its one of those places where sometimes its the perfect place and then the next day, its the worst possible place to go! Don't get me wrong, it is good. Its fun to shop here as it has so many yummy gourmet products. But like many reviewers have already mentioned. Its expensive. Sometimes ridiculously so. My friends and I would still love to come here though, mostly for a treat. Some chocolates or some other type of sinfully calorie-laden sweet is a perfect excuse for a splurge. Somehow that extra cost makes it taste super good! Last week, I made my first visit, navigating narrow aisles that made "excuse me" my most uttered words in the store. We spotted some deals on seasonal items, and a grocery cart full of marked down wine (YES - there were a couple cabernets in there!). This Straub's has a great selection of interesting, higher-end products, and I love their bakery and floral department. The meat counter is great, too, and the butcher is friendly and helpful. The prepared food from the deli is hit-or-miss. The rotisserie chickens are good, and the hummus is fantastic. However, the fried chicken isn't worth it, and the potato dishes we've tried have been so-so. My main complaint about this location is the wine guy. The wine selection is great, but dude...if I want help, I will ask for it. If you ask once, that's great--but if I tell you I don't need help? Go. Away. Don't hover and breathe on my neck and do laps around the wine aisle and ask me four more times. I just. Want to look. At the wine. This guy is aggressively helpful. I actually had to politely say, "Please don't help me," once, and I felt like a jerk, but seriously. So this is my favorite Straubs... It's right by my doctor's office and I can have a great time joking around with their checkout cashiers. The latter is mainly due to their locale. The people at the one on Kingshighway don't appreciate my humor as much since it's more commonplace in that neighborhood... C'est la vie. Groceries are clearly more expensive here (Fitz's four pack is about $1 more), but the bakery and some of their selection makes it worth it for certain things. The other night I went in there with B and we bought a mini bottle of wine and a can of mimosa (not at all as atrocious tasting - in fact good tasting - as one might think). We joked with the cashier (he asked us if we needed a bag and we said no) who asked us if we were going to use straws.... I told him that we might... Afterall we were trying to keep it classy. He told us we clearly were not from that area and that we should come in more. Good times. read more

Yeah this Straub's is definitely the nicer of the Straub's I've been to, including the one in Town and Country. It isn't specifically for their inventory, as I'm pretty sure it's the same as the others, but it's just bigger, more spread out, and probably have the largest variety of root beer of any place in St. Louis. read more

Ample parking at this Straub's location. I was always a fan of the CWE location. When I started my Master's at Webster I would grab lunch around here or run into Straub's versus eating some vending machine food. Lord knows I'm not a freshman and I sure don't need fifteen extra pounds. I love the location of this Straubs. It's more spread out, not so bump into the guy walking down the aisle, unless of course this is what you are into. They have some of the freshest meat you can get in the StL area. I've also enjoyed their flowers. They have lasted longer than many of the ones that I have bought at several local florists. (and yes that means I buy myself flowers) If have a sweet tooth run to their bakery. So freaking good. Anyone want to send me a cake? =) read more

I love Straubs. It is dangerously close to my house! I wanted to drop a helpful hint to those working folks who don't feel like cooking every single night of the week! They have a great dinner for 2 during the week for $16.99. It really is a fantastic deal considering that you would pay that much for two meals at St. Louis Bread Company. The menu of the dinner for 2 is up on their website. Our personal favorite is the petite beef tenderloin dinner. It comes with a large caesar salad and twice baked potatoes. The dinners are in a brown Straub's bag at the deli counter. If you do not see any out, they also have them behind the counter and can ask for one. Inside of the bag, you will find instructions on how to heat up each item. A GRAND deal if you ask me! read more

I normally order cakes from various bakeries. My daughter suggested Straubs since it's by her house. I ordered a 1/2 sheet cake- 1/2 choc 1/2 vanilla. It was delicious. I found Mash citrus waters here; my new favorite beverage. I had only been able to purchase them on the East Coast, so I stocked up at Straub's to take back home to Cincinnati. Ok, well look, everyone knows it's expensive but Straubs has some things that just can't be beat. You don't go here to buy cornflakes; go instead for the best meat counter around. These guys are actual butchers who can cut you what you want and will trim it to your specs. Also, the only place besides Annie Gunn's to get USDA Prime graded beef - and that makes a world of difference. Don't go to buy the same wine you get at sams club; instead go for the crazy ingredient you can't find at schnucks (eg, demi-glacé, say, or 12-year balsamic from Modena). For what it is, can't be beat. read more

Dear Webster Groves, I was there today buying my usual lb, of coffee every 6-7 days or so. plus a few other items. It's a pretty pricey place, as everyone knows, but the quality is usually worth the price; though a certain brand of cookies is just a tad (he says a bit sarcastically) too much, at 4.50, for only 8 cookies. The packaging is fantastic though with what seems to be a quarter inch silver foil inside with each cookie individually wrapped for freshness, but c'mon. The store is also convenient being a quarter mile from my home. But I digress. I was looking a little grubby, even for me, having been painting and cleaning the house getting ready for the Christmas party. I was standing in aisle 6 looking for a particular brand of oatmeal. As dirty as my work clothes were, with an expression which I'm sure made me look dazed and confused, this manager was just as friendly and nice as he could be. I never shop at Straub's for basic groceries, because they are more expensive than some of the bigger grocery stores, but I'm here at least a few times a week in search of freshly prepared items at the deli counter. The sour cream potato salad, egg salad, orzo, and greek pasta salad are just a few of my favs, as well as the dips, like the dill dip and the artichoke dip. Sometimes when I run out of chips and have dip left, I eat it plain. Seriously, it's THAT good. But here's the thing that I usually come in for...soup. The women at the deli counter think that it's ALL that I eat! Some days, there are 3 vegetarian options, and some days, zero, so it's kind of hit or miss. No soup for me! But on the days with 3 veggie options, my day seems that much brighter. They have soup on the hot bar (6-8 kinds), and some pre-packaged 32 ounce containers in the refrigerated case by the deli as well. So if they don't have what you want on the hot bar, you can sometimes find it in the case. And usually when I can't find a single vegetarian soup both places, I ask, and sometimes they find some in the back and package it up just for me! Some of my favorite soups are the tomato bisque (thick and creamy, with cheese tortellini), the cream of vegetable (with carrots, green beans, mushrooms, red peppers, and potatoes), the vegetable barley (I LOVE barley!!!), the mushroom bisque (semi thick with pureed mushrooms), and the potato leek. But they have several other non veggie soups as well, like chili, chicken noodle, and split pea (I don't know if anyone actually eats that, but it's all I can come up with right now). True, Straub's is right around the corner from my house, but it's more than just a convenience. I get great soup, great service...and oh yeah, one more thing. The big deli pickles (which btw, are cheaper than at Schnuck's)! Um...the women at the deli counter know that I eat those too. read more

I was pleasantly suprised by the size of this Straubs. You could actually get your shopping done here. They have a good selection of prepared foods, meats & seafood. And for some reason, there's a whole self dedicated to root beer. Someone must have a fetish. I don't do all my grocery shopping here as yes, it is rather expensive, but I mainly come here for the fish and seafood. Fresh fish and seafood is tough to find at regular grocery shopping stores in the area like Trader Joe's and Schnucks, so I was so happy to see that Straubs has a good selection. They have deliveries everyday and can special order pretty much anything for you as well. The meat and fish prices are similar to Whole Foods. Also, the staff here is very helpful. I agree with the others, this is not a place to go for your weekly groceries. But it is a great place to go for those sorts of high-end "Whole Foodish" items and you can avoid the zoolike quality of Whole Foods. I love greek yogurt - but can't find it at my regular grocery store so I stop here to load up on my Fage. They also have a whole shelf full of rootbeers and I was overjoyed to find out they carry Vosges chocolate bars - these bars are $6/each so they're for very special treats only but are soooo worth it. I will be avoiding Whole Foods in the future and going straight to Straubs. read more

He meticulously hand-selected an order for the family, picked all the right ingredients and items, and delivered them personally so they would get them the day and time they were needed. Working in the area, Straub's is a great place to go for a hot, good, quick meal. I am a fan of the soup bar and deli case. If you haven't tried the Chicken and Dumplings soup you are missing out! The curry chicken salad is the best and when they offered to put it on the Hawaiian dinner rolls ... I was giddy! I'm disappointed that they stopped all of the specialty Kombuchi drinks though. They do carry a local one made in Maplewood but that's is only one of two. The old drink selection was very diverse! Now its just mainly soda and water. I do not buy my groceries here due to the prices though. Only once did I buy fresh Salmon for a recipe and it was a tad pricier than other stores but ... it was the best Salmon I have ever had and the butcher was very nice and knowledgeable. read more
