I live super close to Midtowne so this is always a good place to stop when I need groceries. The bakery section always smells so good and every pastry or donut I have gotten is amazing! Midtowne does not have the largest produce section but the meat section definitely makes up for this. My husband and I will typically get most of our meats at Midtowne because they have a good selection and they have great prices! The store is always clean and organized and the staff are very friendly and helpful when I need it. Midtowne also has good hours and are open 6-10 daily. Love this place. The people are always so nice, some even remember you by name. I've never felt like I was just another number there. You never know what you are gonna find as they sometimes have some unique items that you probably won't find anywhere else. This store gives off a sense of nostalgia that reminds me of my youth going shopping with my grandma. There aren't any self checkouts here. They will bag your groceries exactly like you want them though. Even if you are picky and I've stood in line behind some picky people. The majority of their customers seem to be senior citizens. I can certainly understand why. It does take them awhile to check out as they just aren't use to the card payments. So if you are in line behind one of the sweeties you have to be patient. They always have good hot food in the deli, the most delicious bakery in town, and an outstanding variety of BBQ sauces. Adore the cashiers Karen & Tiffany. If I could give a lower score I would. I have been going into this store for over 30 years. I will do all I can to avoid it from here forward. I know it will not matter to the store getting a bad review. The final straw was when one of their employees called me names and argued with me. I have never been treated so poorly. All of their employees are amazing except this one. Let's just say it was the final straw. With the high prices and rude employees I will take my measley $500 a month elsewhere. I was recently at a Baby Shower and the cake at the shower was delicious. I asked where it was from. The answer was Midtowne Market. The backstory is apparently they do the baking for the Straub's Grocery stores. I have always been a fan of the Straub's bakery department. I stopped by Midtowne Market when I was already in St. Charles not too far away. I have been twice now. They do not have everything that Straub's has but they do have a great bakery. Their birthday cakes are delicious. Their crispy cookies are delicious. Their cake balls are delicious. I haven't paid too much attention to what they have to offer in the rest of the store which looks pretty basic but the bakery is top notch. Good independent small neighborhood market with hot and cold deli service and on site bakery

I gave this store one star because I can't go any lower. The ONLY thing this store has going is that it has a great bakery and deli staff. Otherwise this store is straight out of 1980's rural Missouri. It's absolutely filthy in there and the ceiling is stained and dingy. They have very little selection even though they are owned by the highly respected Straubs. In fact I thought Straubs would take this ugly step child of a store and clean it up, but that didn't happen. They also are priced higher than surrounding Grocery stores like Dierbergs. I think they rely on patrons who are either too lazy or don't know there are much better choices out there. Parking lot is always a mess with people parking atrociously and a lot of confusion for people going the wrong way due to inadequate striping and arrows. Food selection is terrible with little to no organic choices and NO gluten free choices. Not even one single gluten free bread. Not one. Gambling machines?? Seriously they recently put in the tackiest gambling machines so now it looks like a truck stop. The store is extremely dinghy. Filthy and needs a serious makeover. This is a pic of the floors. They haven't had a serious deep cleaning for a long time. These are more than just wear issues, the store is just wore out and it shows. The north entry and exit doors are reversed as the right door going in is the exit and the left is entrance.completely backwards of every normal store you will ever walk into. Hopefully someone from Straubs will read this and realize that St Charles needs this eye sore cleaned up and brought up to modern standards and have newer better items at a better price. read more

Preordered cupcakes four weeks in advance online and I specified the cupcakes neeeded special Mickey liners via the online order. I visited today to drop off the liners and they could not find my order initially. Then they said they can't do special liners for cupcakes because they are already made and frozen. That would have been good to know when I ordered or at least a Few weeks in advance. I left and decided to cancel my order. I called and They said I needed to cancel it online. I made an account to cancel online and the order number was not to be found. I called again and she immediately cancelled my order (why was this not possible the first time I called)? . I am not sure what some reviewers were seeing as far as cleanliness. I believe they witnessed an unusual event because this place including all of the Straub's locations are exceptionally clean. I used to clean public floors the Straub's locations as an independant contractor and was impressed with how consistently spotless the back of the bakery, deli and meat sections were. I just moved back to St. Charles after many years of living in the Pacific Northwest. I am busy exploring all the grocery store options and I must say how very surprised I was that Midtowne Market far exceeded my expectations. The variety of items they offer is impressive! I actually found frozen cannelloni and they carry several brands of pasta sauce from well-known Italian businesses on The Hill. Their bakery and deli selectioons are outstanding, as well. As it is the closest grocery store and its selection far exceeds the Lindenwood Schnucks, I will make it my go to store except when I need specialty items they don't carry that I can get at Dierbergs or Fresh Thyme. I've been to 3 Schnucks so far and they have all disappointed me. read more

THIS IS A STRAUB'S GROCERY STORE! While looking up Straub's on Yelp I ran across Midtowne Market in St Charles. The great reviews convinced me to check them out. At the bakery I asked if the rumor was true that they did the baking for Sraub's... "We ARE Straub's!" was the reply, lol. Sample taste tested a number of items in the deli - amazingly delish. Items in the bakey looked gourmet homemade. Bought a pastry and decided upon tasting it that this is no ordinary pastry... very good! They have a great assortment of "gourmet" bottled soda. Midtowne has a very real small town grocery store feel. Clerks are very helpful and friendly, customers chat with one another. I was just completely grossed out and left!! I went to get hot food items and the hot food item s were full of flies and the guy serving was so unkempt and I thgt if you had a beard health code requires a hat and beard cover. The door to this case was wide open and 3 flies on mashed potatoes, one IN the gravy one on top of Mac n cheese and 4 on the fish. And that's not counting the ones flying freely in and out of the case. If the health dept saw this I'm pretty sure they would have shut it down right then. I was so disappointed drove here especially for pulled pork sandwich and Mac n cheese. I usually buy other stuff cause they have unusual items. But NO MORE. Their bakery is phenomenal! I've gotten cakes for Anniversaries, birthdays, and pretty much any other major celebration. I definitely recommend the white cake with strawberry filling and white buttercream frosting. Delicious! The price for their cakes is also very affordable and taste just as good, if not better, than many of the more expensive bakeries in the St. Louis/ St. Charles area. While in town for a soccer tournament We stopped here for a few road trip items. The Midtown Market reminded me of a small town grocery store. Their deli and bakery is AMAZING and the customer service beyond what I am use to...the cashier Cindy gave my 14 daughter and her friend tootsie rolls when we checked out. Closest grocery store to me but we rarely go. The selection is limited to the more overly processed food selections. It is difficult to find healthier options. My daughter has an egg allergy so options are lacking. I asked the bakery if their doughnuts had eggs in them and no one could answer me and they didn't have an allergy or ingredient list available. 1 in 13 children have food allergies so this was highly disappointing. read more

Midtowne market, formally known as IGA treats millennials like garbage. My boyfriend and I were stopping by to grab some beer before heading to our friends house. We thought midtowne market would be fast and easy as it usually is. We head in and everything is totally casual.. grab our beer and head to the shortest check out line. There's a lady in front of us, so we place the beer on the line and wait patiently and that's when it happens. The cashier stops what she's doing with the customer and yells "move along underage drinkers" and starts laughing and shaking her head with pure amusement that she "caught us". My boyfriend and I looking quite confuse just smile and stay in line. Now it's our turn and the cashier is in shock and states "are you guys really going to try this? Let me see your ID. I simply state back we are both over the legal age and asked if she would like to see my ID as well. She snorts and says "no, once he gets the beer he's the one that will get in trouble for giving you alcohol." My boyfriend hands her his ID that clearly shows that he is 24 years old and she laughs extremely loud and says "you have the biggest baby face". OK. We totally expect to get ID'ed when purchasing beer, but what we don't expect is to get harassed and publicly embarrassed by the cashier for "having baby faces". I don't know if her dream job is to work for the police but she needs to keep her day job and maybe be a little less rude. read more

I have been shopping at this store since 1969 when it was the A & P, then it was the Mid-Towne IGA, and now it's the Mid-Towne Market. Every step of the way, the quality of service has gone downhill, specifically the amount of quality control. Every single time I shop there, I find something that has already expired -- the eggs, the milk, the yogurt, and worse than that, I have purchased loaves of breads that have turned out to have hidden holes in the plastic that then made the product stale immediately. The first several times I noticed this, I simply moved the expired product to the ground so that no one purchased it. This happened so many times that I then started pointing it out to the staff who simply took the the one product away and never bothered to check the rest of them. When I have returned spoiled items and called to complain to one of the managers, I was not treated with any kind of embarrassment on their part. They simply asked as if it was a part of doing business. The majority of the times that I found these expired items, they were in the dairy section. I have found expired milk, expired yogurt, expired eggs, expired cottage cheese, etc., all just sitting on the shelves for people to purchase and get sickened by, if not worse. I have shopped at this store for 47 years, and I have no idea why the quality standards have dropped from 100 down to zero in the space of this last year, but it surely has. When I called to complain, the owner was unavailable. Obviously, someone who manages or is supposed to care about getting people sick, or not, actually doesn't care. His profit seems to be the only reason for continuing. After 47 years, I will no longer shop here. If you choose to, check every single expiration date and you will be surprised at how many are long, long gone. Quality control does NOT exist here. read more
