They had two large cases of baked goods but not your typical breads and croissants - they had caneles and tarts, cakes and macaroni, and these lovely yummy shortbread cookies I walked into a dream café and stumbled my way through ordering bc I was so excited (lol) My first day I ordered just their seasonal rosemary brown butter latte, 1 espresso shortbread cookie, 2 vanilla lavender shortbread cookies, a canele, a linzer, and blueberry muffin. The next day I ordered just the blueberry muffin, vanilla lavender shortbread cookie, and a hot latte to go. Charming little bakery/Cafe. Everyone was welcoming and friendly upon entering and eager to assist. Hard for anyone to choose a favorite item as I was told it changes daily. And you can tell, by peering into the cases, the time and passion it took to make everything. It was presentable, colorful, decadent, and difficult to choose any one thing because I wanted to sample it all. From the rosemary goat cheese quiche, to the Hummingbird cake, to slices of pie. I opted to try the macarons. They are my favorite thing. Their macarons are lovely. Just the right amount of crisp and give, the texture has a great chew, and fillings were delicious. Hands down going to become a place I go for macarons. The German Apple Cheesecake was also stellar, just enough tart and sweet to provide balance. Now this could be dangerous, but well worth it! I have stopped in for baked goods to go before but decided to stay today for a coffee and a quiche. And I am glad I did. Usually this place is packed on a Saturday but I arrived during a bit of a lull around 11am. The staff was soooo friendly and accommodated my mix of a to go and for here order. My latte and quiche were both delicious plus it was a comfortable place to enjoy a book while enjoying my treats. The staff here is just wonderful. I went in last week to pickup treats for a sick friend and they helped me get a nice variety. I asked about cinnamon buns and the said it's a Saturday special. Since I work 4am-1pm on Saturdays I wasn't going to make it to the bakery before they sold out. The young lady took my name and how many buns ma I wanted. Picked them up around 1:30. This bakery was on my list but a ways away from my local area. Happened to be in St. Charles and passed by that reminded me I wanted to try it. We were just in time, arriving before they closed at 3:00. Outside door showed the chemical symbol for sucrose? In the windows to the right of the door you could see into the kitchen or prep area. It was pretty messy. Inside was a bigger than expected space with the main order/counter area and an additional seating section to the left. 2 larger display cases with lots of goodies. Ended up with a mocha cookie and a blueberry scone. They were ok. Cute spot to relax and have a drink and a treat. read more

Then we walked down to St. Charles old town and shopped for a couple hours then came back and had an amazing coffee cake. Then we bought several items to take back home on our flight, some macaroons, a pumpkin spice muffins and another coffee cake! Ordering is difficult for me, as everything in their cases looks like a work of art. It's difficult to choose from so many beautiful selections! (I follow them on social media and get much joy from the photos of their creations.) I love their breakfast croissant sandwiches but got there too late today to score one. Having enjoyed the caramelized onion quiche a few times in the past, I knew I couldn't go wrong in ordering that again today. The quiche is light and delicate; the caramelized onions are flavorful. But I never stop with savory; I must always try something sweet as well. My husband picked out the cream cheese frosted cinnamon roll to share. It was very good and I love that the frosting is not overly sweet. My husband also enjoyed his black coffee and coffee cake. Unfortunately I didn't try that, but he looked pleased with his choice. I visited this bakery cafe for breakfast today and must say I was definitely impressed and I plan to return whenever I'm in St. Charles for breakfast. The cafe is really inviting, and I enjoyed all the different finishes and seating options available. I ordered a white peppermint mocha with a personal quiche. The flavor was roasted red pepper and goat cheese. It was good, I wanted a bit more flavor or maybe some additional spice of some sort in the quiche but overall I enjoyed it. It's always a joy to enter Sucrose and contemplate what to order among the many varieties of pastries, breads, cakes, pies, and quiches. I always order a London fog, which not everyone knows how to make, and theirs is fantastic. Today I was there for a blueberry lemon tart which is one of my favorite sweets to get there. The lemon has a great tartness and the blueberries are perfectly ripe and plump and it's visually stunning. I only wish the crust was softer. When you cut into it, it is so hard that the pieces actually shoot off the plate when the knife slices through. I was also really tempted by the fresh lemon rosemary bread, but I'm trying to keep it somewhat low carb. LOL! Just the one tart then. Haha! It was a sunny morning and I was really looking forward to enjoying my tea & tart while reading my book in their beautiful space, and I thought I was early enough to enjoy some quiet time (I arrived 10 minutes after they opened), however, a couple of moms were there with their screeching children (that were too busy talking to ask their children to stop randomly screaming), and there was a couple sitting next to me speaking at a very loud volume as if they were the only people in the space. After finding out much more about the guys home renovation project, and difficult Aunt, than the story in my book, I quickly ate and left. Oh well, next time I'll get it to go. Ha! read more

I'm a purist when it comes to my sweets. I like my treats simple, but rich. I decided on the chocolate tart...well because how could I not. I added some vanilla macaroons and a chocolate chip cookie. The cookie is perfect, just the right amount of chewy to soft. The macaroons are scrumptious and perfectly made. I haven't tried the tart yet, but I have no doubt it will be my fav thing. Moist and delicious, one vanilla with buttercream icing and raspberry filling, and one chocolate with chocolate buttercream and raspberry filling. Both were decorated perfectly and covered with pink sparkly glitter to complete the package! This was our first time to visit and when we opened the door to pick up the cakes, the freshly baked smell of pastries greeted us instantly! I absolutely love this place. The staff is friendly and wonderfully helpful. I don't even know where to start with the sweets and treats. I'm told one of the proprietors is from Germany. My grandmother was German and one of her signature desserts was a cherry coffee cake. My grandmother has since passed on, but the coffee cake here is exactly like (if not just a smidge better) than hers. I've had so many things here it's hard to pick just one thing when I visit. I highly recommend the quiche. The pastry is rich and flaky and the egg filling is super light and just yum. I have the quiche there and get a to go box of treats to take home! read more
