    Baklava with Pistachio
    John K.

We tried slices of the Baklava with Pistachio and the Pistachio Cream Cake. WOW!!! So delicious. The baklava is cold and came in a nice container so you can warm it up and the honey was flowing. The pistachio cream cake was fresh and tasted soooo good. There's been many times at night before going home you have a craving for something sweet, this is my new go to place. They are located in the food court of West County Mall. The young man helping us recommended the baklava and berry hibiscus bliss drink and I'm glad he did.

    Bon Appetit!

I was excited to finally try this place even though I was warned about the baklavas being too dry. Sadly that's true. I dint think they are made fresh. They lack syrupy. I understand they don't have much food traffic but cutting down on the types of baklava and freshly making them should solve that problem. Probably the second worst baklava I've had out here. I see why they make shakes though. Since they don't sell ans have leftover stock. We initially sat down to eat but it was so awkward that there's no music and so quiet. My husband said they don't vacuum between the chairs which were full of crumbs. We eventually got our food to go. The second issue is the food. We got a sucuk flatbread and ans egg pide. This is not a pide, it's just pizza bread. Cheese is mozzarella, should have been beyaz cheese. Middle eastern cuisine doesn't use this cheese. My egg was raw and just throw in a corner. Could have saved myself money by just getting domino's, at least my food would be cooked. If you want quality, try Balkan treat box, Aya Sofia or Garbanzo. I would also like to state that there is one employee that works front and back. I didn't see him washing his hands once going back into the kitchen to handle my food. Seems like there a big hygiene issue

Roast Beef, horseradish aioli, white cheddar, red onion on a poppy seed challah, oh my. On this day, they had something on the sweet side that caught my eye, a blueberry cream cheese Danish. I am always drawn to blueberry so I couldn't pass it up. I am not much of a sweet eater, hence the Roast Beef sandwich love but every once in a while, there is a sweet treat that I really love and this was one of those times! It was sweet, flaky, and delicious! I had a taste in the car and would have had another 1/4 after the sandwich but I ate the whole thing, I just couldn't stop. I hope they do and hope they don't have this more often!

The display cases are filled with works of art, that taste delicious. The staff is cheerful, friendly and all of them dressed in uniforms gives a feeling of professionalism. I enjoyed a Smoked Ham and Gruyere Croissant and a black coffee in house. I was to have a seat at the counter in their front window and relax while my dogs were at the doggie spa up the street. The croissant was super-super flakey and the smoked ham paired beautifully with the gruyere cheese. I couldn't come to NRB and not take home a couple of sweet treats. My favorite treat was the Raspberry Lemon Financier. It was so good the next morning with my home brewed coffee. Then that evening I enjoyed a Lemon Cake whose name I cannot recall. It exceeded moistness and the strong lemon flavor was just what I like. In addition to my treats, I got a Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookie for my fur-babies pet stylist as part of her tip. My only dislike and it's minor, is that they serve Kaldi's Coffee. I'm glad they are supporting another local small business, but I am not a fan of their product. Typically when I know a cafe serves Kaldi's, I pass on the coffee, but I made an exception here.

I also love that this space aims to provide front/ back of house skills for adults with intellectual disabilities. We went in the afternoon, so a lot of bakery items were sold out (good sign). They had full size gooey butter cakes and pre wrapped items ready to, so definitely keeping that in mind. They also had their famous smile cookies (I've been eating them since I was a kid). They have a full ice cream bar in here (had no idea) which is great to add to the sweet treat line up. My coffee was great (iced latte) and the service was also good. Parking can be tricky in downtown Kirkwood (if you know you know) but we scored a lucky spot on the street right outside. Check it out!

My favorite is the three-meat burrito which comes packed with scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, ham and cheese, with sour cream and salsa on the side. Also on the side... a huge portion of their breakfast potatoes, which are whole skin-on smashed potatoes that have a heavenly combo of crispy exteriors and creamy interiors. All together it's a meal and then some, with plenty left over for tomorrow's breakfast. Fast and friendly service, and I their mission of providing training for adults with physical disabilities. As I was walking to the door, I see a man cleaning the tables. He walks toward the door as I'm walking up to it. We're literally standing face to face with the door in between us. I smile, he is stone faced. I go to open the door as he walks away. The door is locked. I try a few more times, thinking maybe it's me. I look around at the hours again, but next to it is a "we're open" sign. I try maybe 3-4 times more before I give up. I walk to the window and he's sitting at a table toward the back, looking at me. We just look at each other, then he looks at his computer. I turn toward my car, then turn back around and he's still looking at me! I sat in my car, confused. He never looked back up from his computer, so I left. Highly disappointed.

They made a fresh pot of coffee and even went the extra mile to go get ice as we came in later in the evening and they had run out. I did tell them they didn't need to, but he insisted which I thought was outstanding. This quaint little café is so charming inside. It allows people to gather eat a sweet treat and have general conversation conversations where you can actually hear one another. They do have outside seating too. The chocolate cake was soft and as a non-cake lover I found this very delicious. Definitely worthy of sharing. I ordered a quiche to go. I had mentioned they didn't have the spinach feta pastry that I had before. The gentleman stated we have some in the back, I'm happy to get you one. So I ordered that too. And although this was only our second time coming, the fact that they'll make a fresh pot of coffee in my opinion is key to a great café. I will keep this in my rotation of places to go.
