One of my favorite Aldi grocery stores, but my last visit had me a little pissed off. Since my last visit, they did some major flipping of aisles and merchandise. It took me off guard and it had me discombobulated. Once I got my bearings straight, I was good to go and got some shopping done. I recently cleaned out my pantry of expired baking goods and spices, so I grabbed a few items to replace those that were outdated. I also got some ingredients to make a pot of taco soup. When making soup, you really don't need big brand name products, the off-brand aka generic ones, make a good soup, too. Side note - February 4th is Homemade Soup Day. This visit I was lucky and did not see anything in the aisle of shame that I could not live without. They did have a lot of Valentine decor, but I have plenty of that already. Employees are always helpful here. Always clean and well stocked. One of my favorite places to grocery shop. This location also has one of the best parking lots. Always a lot of parking and you never have to struggle to find a spot. Aldi of course has great deals and I love shopping here. read more

Literally only come here once a year to get the wine and cheese advent calendars, which i love. These SELL OUT, so be sure to check the release dates and go the first day! I always find the layout a little confusing, but im sure if i were a regular shopper, I wouldnt find this to be the case. read more

I am not a regular Aldi shopper but my daughter receives Aldi gift cards as incentives at her job and she seems just to save them up... so here I am. I guess it's not fair to compare Aldi to Schnucks or Dierberg's but those are my mainstays, grocery-wise, and my other alternatives. I typically only buy things on sale so I don't find Aldi prices to be much different from Schnucks sale prices. I'm not just a brand name shopper either and Aldi brands are just kinda meh. I find the physical layout of this Aldi to be a bit depressing -- too dim and drab. Having shopped at Aldi since the 70s, it's interesting to see how they have grown and evolved. In the early days, into the stores weren't so big and so popular, and there were no laser scanners -- the cashiers had prices for all the inventory memorized, and it was a joy to watch their fingers over the register keys as they punched your whole order blazingly fast. Time marches on. There's so much inventory now, and probably employee turnover, that laser scanners are now in use. I've even seen self-checkout, but I hope that flops. Modern Aldi features a nice looking product department, as well as a good selection of the types of packaged goods you'd final in a typical supermarket. Plus also an aisle I think of as a mini-Walmart, with constantly rotating stock of cheaply made pots & pans or bath mats or rugs or ... Grocery items are the real star of the show though. They do have some name brands at a discount, but most items are sold under a store brand, often looking and tasting similar to its name brand counterpart (and we suspect in many cases may actually come from the same plant), but at a substantial discount. It may not be as cheap as it once was, but you could probably save close to 50% shopping here, vs. Schnuck's. Even more savings vs. Dierberg's or Straub's, or Whole Foods. But if you shop the latter stores, Aldi may take some getting used to. I couldn't finish an Aldi review without singing the praises of its German goods, like its chocolates, and seasonal treats, like the star cookies and lebkuchen (gingerbread) cookies, cherry/marzipan stollen, etc. It's a German company, so no surprise they'd offer a good selection of the best German treats. Aldi offers a good "double" guarantee -- if you don't like an item, they will let you pick a replacement PLUS will refund your money. Hopefully folks won't ruin a good thing by abusing it, like they have with the Costco and L.L. Bean return policies. Before you grumble about having to "pay" a quarter for a shopping cart, realize that you get your quarter back when you bring the cart back to the queue after you're done with it. Sometimes a kind-hearted person will offer you theirs for free (maybe saying "pay it forward"), and if you don't have a quarter, ask inside and I think a cashier will gladly give you one. read more

Aldi's is one of my three places I shop for food. I get my basic items as well as fruits, veggies, milk and bread. Their prices are good compared to other grocery stores. This location is pretty good. They are good in keeping their shelves stocked and store clean. I don't mind the self service stuff here like bringing your cart back and bagging my groceries. This is my regular place to shop grocery. It was a complicated relationship with Walmart. And now I am with Aldi. It is literally next to my house, and I never have to stock on food. I pretty only buy what I will need for the entire week or for a few days. This place is reliable, and I appreciate all the great, affordable prices. 1. The staff are incredible and kind. 2. The banana is always green, so it can last longer in your house if you don't plan to eat them too soon. 3. They have cauliflower rice, and I approve this for keeping up with the demographic trend. 4. They have affordable basic items including onions, jalapeno, and tomatos ---- salsa ingredients. 5. They have good frozen bowls for $3, which is perfect for busy folks. There is a trend for simple meals, so Aldi is correctly following the direction. 6. Their eggs and dairy are below market price, beating most geocery stores in saint louis. Walmart should be on its knee, begging for forgiveness from their customers. Shame. Shame. Shame. 7. Their strawberries are generally priced lower than most places. It is $1 during the summer, and then $1.25 or $1.50 during other season when its discounted. Otherwise, it is $1.98 or $2.50 Note: after reading what I wrote about strawberries, how the hell do I know the price so well? 8. They have great selection of frozen fruits in a bag. This is perfect for smoothies. Drink up kids! This is the less-busy Aldi than other places. Other Aldi has a hard time maintaining their place, while this Aldi is 100× superior. I decided one day to compare prices to the places I'd shopped before deciding to come here (Walmart/target/trader joe's) and found that this saves me $20-$30 bucks each time I have to shop. It's only slightly further away than each of those places but that's a negligible difference. Everyone here is helpful, this place has an AMAZING selection of alternatives and sometimes special items from other stores sold significantly cheaper. Only gripe as that some of those things fly off the shelves too fast. Other than that, the staff all look professional, the place looks great, doesn't look/smell trashy, so hardly any complaints to be had. 100% worth it to shop here read more

Besides being approached to buy food stamps on more than one occasion, this Aldi rocks. I'm a slight snob about where my food comes from, so I wouldn't buy any produce or meat here (unless they happen to start stocking the same organic chicken their sister company sells). I do, however buy lots of other essentials and nonessential here. Baking goods are always a favorite - they're dirt cheap! This includes not only flour and sugar - but also baking soda, baking powder, chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, etc. My other favorite goodies here are their kettle chips, the fresh salsa (Jalapeno is is the best), and their tubs of cheese (Asiago, Romano, and Parmesan are staples) - all only $1.99!). This is definitely one of the better Aldi's I've been in, and even better for me is that I can walk here. Score. Remember your quarter for a cart! read more

I frequent a newer Aldi in South City but came here as I was running some other errands. From what I can tell, this one looks pretty modern but I'm not sure. As usual, they have it all. Cheap booze, off brand La Croix, cheap produce and whatever else you can dream up. I tried Winking Owl wine to make some spritzers. Best decision of my life. I think it's like $3.80? When your mixing it with seltzer water and lemons the price really doesn't matter. Probably going to stock up to fill up my wine rack and entertain guests with my mad spritzing skills. Also, I've noticed Aldi has huge produce. And it's cheaper. More all around. I got a bag of the biggest lemons of my life for $3? If you do the majority of your grocery shopping at Aldi, you will save hundreds of dollars a year. What does it cost you? The luxury of options in many cases, access to brand names in most cases, glitzy displays in all cases, and limited domestic produce. Unless the former are unusually valuable to you, shop at Aldi. The Maplewood location is arguably the best in St. Louis. It was renovated in 2014 to widen selection and improve aesthetics. If you haven't stepped foot in an Aldi in recent years, you'll be surprised at how much you can buy there (imported cheeses, hard ciders, gluten free products, naan bread, flavored Greek yogurt, etc.). The staff are courteous and no one checks customers out quicker. The space is always clean and orderly. Notes to the uninitiated: you'll need a quarter to "rent" a cart. Bags will cost you, so bring your own. Seasonal or special items (which you will learn to identify) are not replenished. If you see anything you like, lounge. It won't be there next time. read more

Fear not, brand label fiends. For those that are working on a tight budget (I can imagine most Yelpers falling into this category), Aldi's covers your basic grocery needs: bread, milk, fruit, veggies, meat, cheese, etc. While they're no Dierbergs or Schnucks, you'd be surprised to what they do carry: avocados, asiago cheese, pineapple, and soy milk. I'll have to admit, I've been to Straubs a few times for those specialty items and their amazing deli counter, but most of my grocery shopping was done (up until a few months ago) at the Schnucks on Lindell. Since I've switched to Aldi, I save at least 25 to 30% on my grocery bills. For everything I can't get there, I go elsewhere (e.g. fresh fish or cilantro). Aldi also boasts the best tasting frozen pizza for the price I've ever purchased. Can't beat a $2 pie that isn't a Tostino's party pizza. Making the decision to shop at Aldi is not an easy one. Brand names give people a sense of security and safety about their purchase, but are often overpriced. Aldi - only for the bold. read more

This place was always fond in my memory for going to the store with my grandma to get some discounted goodies. So as I came to be an adult I always thought it was a place that old people go and thus, distanced myself from it. I WAS S O Ooo wrong. I went for their remodeling launch and I was taken back. Everything was neat. Isles wider than what I remember. So many chips right across from the wines as if they knew what I was trying to do. The bait and switch for my adult self. And might I tell you, the wine selection is bigger and better than before! I can't lie. I did pick up a bottle of Pinot Grigio and I was not disappointed. Their cheese selection has improved as well making it hard not to get some cheese with this whine I had about what Aldi's was. Their meat cuts look fresh and we did grab a good flank of pork ribs to give a try. Typically in the STL you would grill them but we boiled them when we got home to make a soup. They were pretty good! Not the best ever but I felt very comfortable eating the meat from a hypermarket. ALSO the bread section is a wee bit bigger and is location more towards the center of the store. Before it was in a corner close to the cashiers but I've always hated that. I'm so glad they changed it. It makes it so much easier to look at bread and not feel like a criminal with the eyes of cashiers thinking, "not buying any bread? WELL THE BREAD DIDNT WANT TO BUY YOU EITHER. HMPH!!" All in all, great improvements and it's totally not for old people. Don't feel ashamed to come here!! read more

This Aldis is great and it starts with the employees. There are not a ton of employees but the ones they have are super friendly and hard working. I haven't encountered one who wasn't. So kudos to you all. The food selection is decent if you know what to expect. You won't find everything but you will find most basic food items as well as alcohol, fresh meat, produce, toiletries, and flowers for about 1/3 less than major grocery stores. Most items are from Aldis private labels and there usually isn't much selection; ex. only one kind of cheddar cheese or one brand of peanut butter. I save a lot of money shopping here. I don't come to this Aldi as much. It's a little out of the way for me and not as convenient as the one on olive. I also don't like how it's organized quite as much. With that said, it is an Aldi and it has great things for fairly cheap! This place is clean and has a cute little parking lot. I've never been here and had to stand in line for a long time. It's a fairly convenient to turn in and out of the side street that links to the parking lot too! I definitely stop by this Aldi if I'm in the area (which I don't tend to be). read more

Best grocery store. Ever. Frankly, I hate shopping. I'm in college, I have no money, and making grocery lists isn't exactly my idea of a fun time. However, everything at Aldi is so inexpensive that I pretty much buy whatever I want, and it's never too costly for me. Note I said inexpensive, not cheap -- although the food is generally lower quality than Whole Foods and Schnucks, it is still great quality food. Here are the reasons why this Aldi will soon be your favorite store, too: -Employees are amazingly friendly and happy -(mostly) Non-sketchy, nice fellow shoppers -One block from Maplewood metro station -Cheap produce (less expensive than Soulard market, and quite fresh) -$1 spices: cinnamon, chili powder, basil, garlic powder, cumin, paprika, oregano etc., in huge, 4 oz containers -Quick checkout (even if the line appears long, never fear! The checkers know their stuff. Seriously- prepare to be amazed by their speed and focus) -Small store = user friendly Advice: -Bring your own bags, although you can buy some if you forgot yours. -Bring a quarter and get your grocery cart outside the door. -Bring a debit card or cash (no credit cards taken here) -Go early in the day if you want produce deals. Sometimes, they sell out later in the day. -Check the ad online to get an idea of the amazing deals. Produce sales are from Saturday-Sunday and all other sales are from Wed-Tues. Ads online are updated on Wed only. -Be prepared to go to another store also if you want less conventional food (for example, Aldi does not carry tofu, whole wheat flour, and specific sugar/salt free items). It has a limited variety of food. BUT Walmart is just down the street, so it's totally convenient to get your shopping done in one trip. Try Aldi out!! read more

This is our staple store in St Louis for our basics. They have a good variety of produce and even organic produce.

Based on looks alone, you won't be enticed to venture into an ALDI anytime soon. However, once you get that flyer in the mail and see that they have some ridiculous special on an item in the store, curiosity will set in and you'll find yourself venturing in. ALDI has been offering up the cheapest of the cheap for years, and since I've been shopping there, every time I look at the prices at any other major grocery store, I'm shocked. Also, don't be afraid of a long line. The checkers there are incredibly speedy and for the most part, friendly. The only reason this place will not get a 5 stars from me is based on ambiance alone. It's kind of a drag to shop there as there is never music playing and everything is just lumped onto pallets. Overall, if you're looking for deals, this is your place. read more

Not the newest nor the most state-of-the-art Aldi's I've been to, but this has to be one of the most pleasant experiences I've ever had at an Aldi's. The store is always neat and clean, the produce is fresh, and the employees are some of the nicest you'd want to meet. Of course, Aldi's has some of the cheapest food prices out there, and even though you won't find many name brands, the quality of the items are equal to if not greater than anything you'd find at a Schnucks or Shop-n-Save. I love this store and shopped there for years when it was close to my house. I hate going to the grocery store because it usually seems like you walk out with 2 little plastic bags for $60. I actually like going to Aldi's because it is small and I know anything I buy there is priced fairly. The other shoppers tend to be fairly polite compared to the bigger grocery stores. This particular store was closed for remodeling, and upon it's reopening, I really cannot see that much of a difference it the makeup and remodel: the biggest change seems to be the entrance because it's got new doors and reconfigured. There is more counter space at the checkouts for bagging what you buy. They did something to the wall facing Manchester when they remodeled the building, but whatever it was, it really doesn't show on the inside. The layout of the store is basically the same with some changes in stock and merchandise that is noticeably but not a drastic change. I am always pleased when I go here, which is rather rare. Rare? Because I don't carry enough cash, as they don't accept checks. Maybe one reason they can afford to charge less...no losses from bad checks. almost always I buy much more than I intend to because the prices and quality are really very nice. I have to plan to carry sufficient cash 'just in case.' I think I am most pleased with their canned goods. They are the same quality as are name brand and a lot less pricy. I always plan to during the December days to get their wonderful German stolen. Meat is fine too, and I choose individual portions of fresh veggies, sometimes they have blemishes. But hey, so what..just buy what you want and save a whale of a ot of money. read more

The only place with an electric scooter was in Chesterfield. I am limited when on my scooter by a small basket so I was delighted that the one close to me got a scooter, widened the isles and made it much easier for me to get around. The staff is very helpful and so are the customers. I ofter wonder if in using quarters for carts if they realized how they encouraged friendly conversation when people trade quarters for carts in parking lots. What a great way to encourage good feeling in people. read more
