Everything about the market from the customer appreciation annual event to the monthly wine tastings/ad hoc wine tasting at the register basically any time you walk in, says fun and friendly. They always have a fantastic selection of craft beer, unique wine and local food plus lots of staples. Sure you may spend a little bit more but the convenience factor and supporting a local family owned business is so with it! On a personal note, last winter when we got a ton of snow and the stores were a mad house I was able to make it to the market, grab a bag of ice melt (which everyone else was out of), a pizza and some beer to save the day! Gustine Market is a lonely person's dream. They have take and bake Shakespeare's, Ted Drewes, Wine, Beer, fine cheeses, crackers and many other local goodies. It's seriously the perfect stop for a night of Netflix in bed...or I suppose last minute calorie filled meals. The store is small but it's all you need. Plenty o' curb-side parking as well. They're always doing wine and cheese tastings for free whenever I drive by. They did one when I went in but I didn't partake too much. This is seriously my favorite tiny market in St. Louis. I have recently moved to Tower Grove South, and this place has quickly become a staple for me. I firmly believe that somewhere in this little market, they have one of almost everything. It might not be the exact brand/size you are looking for, but it'll come through in a pinch. Their beer and wine selections are particularly great, however. This little market in the Tower Grove South neighborhood has saved me a trip to the supermarket on many occasions. They have a wide variety of supplies from snacks, to cooking ingredients, to quick meals, to cleaning supplies, and even beer/wine. They are very reasonably priced and the service is excellent, with debit card and quickpay both accepted. They even hold wine tastings for the community (when the global atmosphere permits of course). While all of this already warranted a 5 star rating, what put Gustine over the top for me has been their amazing response during COVID-19. They were one of the first establishments I recall in the TGS neighborhood to enact social distancing measures; including patrons waiting 6 feet apart when outside of the store, only allowing 1 patron to enter the store at a time, and adjusting for no contact transactions. Yet the quality of their service nor their products changed. The staff remained friendly and welcoming. The products remained affordable and convenient. I would definitely recommend checking them out and will absolutely continue giving them my business as long as I am in St. Louis. read more

I stopped in to Gustine's on my way home from work to pick up a couple of quick items, as I have several times. I love to support independent businesses, and I am so happy to see even small independents offering grocery items a walkable distance from homes. The service is always friendly, prompt, and personable. I haven't yet delved into the selection of craft beers and wines, or attended a wine tasting, but the selection looks good for the size of the store, and I am always offered a sample of wine and/or an interesting food item (yesterday is was a very tasty jalepeno raspberry jam.) They offer a lot of local specialty food items, like Billy Goat chips and Kakao chocolates. There's an email list to sign up for info about wine tastings, etc. The selection of grocery items is limited, but if you need to pick up a basic item, it's very handy. Some items are priced higher than the super market, but I think that's to be expected. For example, I was grabbing some chips and salsa, and all the salsa brands were $3.99, including one brand which would be that price at a larger store and some that would be cheaper. Not really a big deal, but I would choose this store for convenience or specialty items, not for weekly shopping. Also, unpopular as it is, I'm a smoker, and it's great to be able to pick up cigarettes so close to work. Prices are comparable to other spots. Overall, great place. read more

Your typical corner market, only the staff actually gets to know you.The store itself is pretty small and nothing spectacular. The prices for regular items are more than you'd pay at the grocery store, but they also carry a nice variety of wines and beers at cheap/moderate prices. Basically the things you might need for a party or if you forgot something at the grocery store. They also have raviolis and Dogtown pizzas in their freezer section. oh and they frequently hold wine tastings. read more

Before stumbling across other yelp reviews for this neighborhood market, I would have never dreamed of going inside. To be quite honest it looks a little scary from the outside. Inside is nothing fancy, that's for sure. But this seemingly unassuming spot has a rather nice selection of wines, and craft beers. Among other essentials. In addition to an excellent selection, they also have excellent prices on these items. As mentioned in many other reviews, they host wine tastings regularly. It just happened that they were having one on the evening that we stopped in after dinner. I was wanting to try some new wine, and wasn't really sure what I was looking for. So walking into a wine tasting was perfect. The only complaint that I have about the wine tastings, is that it is a rather cozy space to say the least. Fill it with smug assholes who feel the need to prove they possess superior knowledge of every vintage.... and well you get the point. read more

O Gustine, Gustine! Wherefore art thou Gustine? This place channel's my inner Shakespeare since it is the only place in the St. Louis area that sells frozen Shakespeare's Pizza. Although it is not the fresh Shakespeare's you get in Columbia, it is still a hella good frozen pizza. That place does something right! They have a few different kinds at Gustine's - Chesse, Veggie, Sausage and Pepperoni - the staples. Pick up a six-pack of beer or bottle of wine and you are set for a night in! Their beer and wine selection is a perk considering it is a small corner market. Staff is also super friendly as they remind you of upcoming wine tastings, events or daily specials there. They are always looking out for the customer, I like! The only gripe is that I wished I lived closer. Definitely not your typical corner store. Although they do carry typical corner store items like soda and candy they have some unique and upscale items as well. The ready to bake Shakespeare's Pizza is awesome, and they have a great beer and wine selection. They have a wide varity of cheeses and meats, and the time I went in there you could sample them. On occasion the Gustine Market hosts tasting parties for wine and beer. Vicky, the gal who runs the Gustine Market is super nice and very knowledgeable of her products. This place is awesome! This is a fantastic neighborhood market. Very small, but still has a large variety of items! I also love the Friday evening free wine tastings they have, always end up there tasting and bringing home a great bottle of wine. They have a ton of local items and items from all over the state of Missouri that I love picking up there. One of my favorite things is the Shakespeare pizza choices they have! Takes me back to my college days! If you are around this area, it's worth a stop by! Perfect for those who live close, and makes it easy to grab items instead of having to drive a ways to go to the bigger grocery stores. read more

Surprising variety of food, wine, beer. Great for last minute things like butter, milk, & bread, ice, limes, lemons, onions, etc Did I mention beer & wine? I am new to the neighborhood and heard I could buy Shakespeare's Pizza here. Needless to say, the 1/2 mile walk was well worth it for the pizza! I would have given it 5 stars due to the pizza alone, but I am not rating the pizza!! :P Its is a rather SMALL shop, but they carry lots of basic grocery items. Not tons of variety in what they offer (sizes, brands, etc) but they have lots. It is a bit pricier than a regular grocery store but in a pinch I know I could find what I need here. (sans produce...they had some over priced apples and such.) I was most impressed with the wine selection and the beer selection. I know enough beer snobs to know they carry a large enough selection to make almost any beer drinker happy. As for the wine, they had maybe 20 bottles to choose from, all in varying price points. The cool part is that the owner must know their wine as most came with little bits of facts or information about the wine, where it came from or what to pair it with for dinner. Very helpful for someone like me! All in all, I will definitely be back! I love to support a local biz whenever I can, and I do plan on doing so here...it just will never replace an actual grocery store for me! read more

As per the first review, this is a whole different animal than the previous venue. I live close enough to walk here in my slippers (I have and do), and cannot say enough about the selection, the friendliness of the staff, and the fantastic facelift to the interior. I'm so thankful to have such an awesome neighborhood market within walking distance of the park, and would recommend it to anyone who values a great selection of beer and wine, with a neighborhood-market-jauntiness. read more

Service is always great and the selection of grocery is pretty impressive for such a small market. I heard about this market in a review in Sauce Magazine. Happened to be in the neighborhood and thought that I would stop in. It reminds me of all the corner bodegas that you find in big cities like Chicago or New York. It has a wide selection of drinks and food. They also carry Shakespeare pizzas. I didn't pick up any this trip because I didn't know when I was going home to be able to keep it frozen. So on my next trip, I am stocking up on some Shakespeare pizzas. Found out that they have wine tastings each month. Sounded like a fun thing to attend. I wish that I had something like this by me. The Gustine Market is awesome. The Cummiskeys (owners) and their employees make every customer feel welcome. They've transformed this store from a dumpy place for staples to a great place for staples, wine, gourmet/local foods etc. They have wine tastings and are truly a part of the 'hood. read more

I'm giving this place a 5-star review, because they try - not because of the selection. Although it's called a market, they're really more of a beer/wine and a handful (more of a basketful) of some produce and some bags of drool-worthy breadsticks. The milk selection was legit - and they carried some local coffee (pre-ground in bags). Not a place to go if you need to buy groceries for a week, but definitely a great stop for picking up the basics (or even a package of fresh pasta). The staff was super friendly and very helpful. The prices for grocery items were more expensive than I had expected, but having experienced the friendliness of the staff there, it was the least that I could do - love this place! read more

First... yeah, the Shakespeare's pizza is as great as everyone says! Worth the walk or drive alone. Second, this little market is a great asset to the neighborhood! Even though it is small, they have all the basic items one might run out of - milk, bread, etc. Add to that the not so common items they carry, and you have a unique and handy corner market for both folks living in the area and those out and about looking for a snack or some good beer or wine to take home. Any place that greets me with wine when I walk in the door gets my undying love and attention. Everyone who works here is super nice and they have such an awesome selection of things (mainly beverages) that you don't usually see in your local shnucks. They are the sweetest when you walk in and they even offer me wine at 8am. Lol... They have a great selection of wine, food and goodies, I've heard their pizzas are amazing also. Perfect place to pick up a nice craft beer or a good moderately priced bottle of wine. They stock this place with anything I might need. Lots of nice grocery selections too. They have wine and beer tastings from time to time also. They always have a good crowd and lots of food to try.
