TL;dr version- loved this place and will make regular appearances here. I have no idea why we haven't been here yet. Now that we have, it's going to the top of our regular rotation of breakfast places. Homey atmosphere, plenty of tables and bar seating (no alcohol). Busy but not too busy. We sat at the bar. The staff were so friendly. The menu is just big enough to have a good selection without being overwhelming (no one needs a 10 page menu). The prices were outstanding. We looked at the menu online ahead of time and thought it must be an outdated menu with outdated prices. Nope. We both got the Big Biscuit Breakfast. Yep, it was big. It took a little bit to come out, but we were in no hurry, so that was fine. It was sooo good. I appreciate the generous serving of gravy. The hashbrowns were cooked perfectly- not too crispy, not too soggy. We didn't get any drinks besides water, but we had a front row seat watching them being made. I wish I had room for one, because they looked spectacular. We had a decent amount leftover to take home for tomorrow's breakfast. The bartender offered to make us water cups for the road (a really nice extra touch). The place looked clean and put together nicely. Can't wait to go back and try their lunch. read more

This one surprised me. I'm not sure why, but I went in with lower expectations. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Today was our second time at Mama's Breakfast Table, and it was just as enjoyable as our first visit. The first time it was my husband and I; this time we invited his parents because we knew they would love it too. It is such a cute spot for breakfast or lunch. The front window bring in the sunshine, and there are fresh flowers on every table. It's clean and arranged well so that you don't feel crowded. Just like the first time, the dining area was busy, nearly full. On our previous visit, there was a table of about twelve and every other table was full, and our server actually apologized that we had to wait a couple of minutes after we were seated for menus to be brought to us--she was so sweet! But the busy pace doesn't seem to phase the waitstaff or kitchen at all. Service is welcoming, friendly, and prompt, and food is delivered hot, fresh, and more quickly than I'd expect when they have such a crowd. Between the four of us today, we tried the waffles with strawberries, the Spam-a-Lot special (super cute name for a Spam breakfast) which came with a biscuit and gravy, potatoes, and two eggs, the Greek omelet, and the chorizo omelet special. Every dish was devoured and enjoyed. Even though the restaurant is busy, it isn't a place where it's so rushed that you have to hurry and move on. This food was soooo good! I had a western omelette with potatoes and a biscuit. The biscuit was soooo soft and buttery and the potatoes were perfect! I don't eat breakfast much, but will definitely be returning to Mama's Breakfast Table! We entered and it was crowded, buzzing with tables enjoying their breakfast and having lively conversations. It had a neighborhood regular vibe that was very warm and welcoming. Staff were friendly and greeted us as soon as we entered and put our name on the waitlist. A short time later, we were seated. The server, who was also the person seating people did an excellent job being attentive to everyone while juggling a lot of tasks. She got our drink orders as soon as we were seated. We knew what we wanted to order as we decided while waiting. I love breakfast burritos, so decided on that. I wanted to try the grits, but they were out so I went with the hash browns. The food arrived quickly and my burrito was yummy! It was a no frills, but delicious breakfast. And the hash browns were a cheesy like casserole. Crispy on the outer edges and cheesy in the middle. This was our second time visiting in the past several months. I can't recall off hand what I had the first time but it was better than what I had today. I wasn't in the modd for breakfast food today so I got the catfish special. The catfish wasn't quite cornmeal breaded like I was hoping for and was under seasoned. The hush puppies were very good and perfectly cooked. I initially asked for something other than fries but I tasted one and was glad I hadn't ordered them because they were stale and tasteless. I exchanged them for the home style potatoes which were like warm and had definitely been sitting for some time. My partner got some and said his was hot and fresh. The coleslaw was interesting and finely chopped. It wasn't vinegar based but also wasn't the sweet/creamy type like KFC or Long John. It was just kind of there. The grits were again bland. The Biscuit was hot and fresh but they didn't have butter on the table for it. I should've asked but didn't so that's on me. Our server was kind but the expediter lady didn't seem as friendly. Came for the first time with my brother yesterday and maybe because it was around 11:30 am in the day, everything was a little bit off from what I expected. I ordered the breakfast with two eggs, three meats, potatoes and biscuits and gravy along with one pancake. The biscuit was so hard it was inedible and the potatoes were so cold that the butter just sat on top of them. My two over easy eggs were OK but the turkey sausage bacon and patties had an offputting taste. The pancake was fluffy and good. The full meal didn't meet my expectations for a breakfast that totaled $18. ($14 for the breakfast choice and $4 extra for the one pancake.) read more

We ordered the pork chop breakfast and a side of pancakes and shared the meal. It was plenty! I like my eggs over medium which most restaurants never get it right, Mamas nailed it! We ordered the fried potatoes, I typically prefer hashbrowns, but my husband likes them fried, these potatoes were perfectly cooked. The pork chops were amazing, they had a nice crispy breading, so tender. And the pancakes! Oh my goodness, I would go back just for them. Fun little place for breakfast/brunch. We went with a group after church and tried a couple of different things. It's an open restaurant with little tables everywhere. Cute signs and decorations around. It threw us off that there were som many different menus. There's that standard menu (same info on both sides), a small table menu in a plastic holder, a seasonal additions menu and then a chalk board wall with more options. Look everywhere if you want to make sure you want to select from all the offerings! Good came out quickly and was hot. The Scotts big omelet is listed as a 5 egg omelet, but they must be really small eggs, because it wasn't as impressive as it sounds. Potatoes were cooked well, but didn't have much seasoning, which was disappointing. Everything else was tasty and our server did a great job of keeping drinks full and checking on us. This place is so cute! I absolutely love the vibe. The western omelet was huge. It was good, very buttery but the egg was a little thin for my liking but still good. The strawberry cheesecake croffle- UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. Hands down the best dish I've ever eaten for breakfast. I could eat it all day. The potato casserole with the omelet was good too. I'm in a breakfast group on Facebook. A little while ago there was a lot of chatter about this place in the group and I thought that we should check it out some day. Today was the day We live a half hour or so away, but we're always willing to take a drive to go to a new-to-us place and we've found a lot of places we love that way. Unfortunately, this was not one of them. We went back and forth on whether it was a two or three star place. It's probably a 2.5. We arrived and there were a number of tables available. A server seated us at a table that needed to be cleaned instead of one that was already clean. She cleared it and said she'd be back to wipe it off and she did so. She put napkins down and said she'd return. She never did. We saw three servers there. We eventually got one of them to bring us menus. I'm thinking it was close to ten minutes after we were seated. No water or drinks yet either. Throughout our time there, there were a lot of times there was no employee on the floor. We eventually end up having two servers taking care of us. We finally got to place our order. We didn't have to wait too long for our food to be brought out. The food was very average. Nothing great. The sausage is super salty. The gravy is a milk gravy and it didn't have much flavor. I ordered a latte and it wasn't very hot and they put a ton of whipped cream on it so I had to drink that fairly quickly while it was still warm! The portions are large and the prices are extremely reasonable. It looks nice in there, but the floor was dirty. My husband went to the restroom and there was no soap and no paper towels. I told a server about it and didn't see anyone go in and do anything about it. We won't be going back. UPDATE: The owner responded almost as soon as I posted and apologized. She said they probably shouldn't have opened today. Some staff were out sick with the flu and they were very short handed. Her husband stepped in to be the cook and was doing his best. I appreciate her reaching out and explaining the situation. We are more likely to go back again! read more

Came for breakfast this morning and had the most pleasant experience! The place was bustling, but didn't have to wait on a table. The servers were plentiful and attentive. The food was outstanding. We will be dreaming about the peaches and cream cinnamon roll until our next visit! Portions were very generous, my husband and I both have leftovers enough for another meal. I left MSD just a few blocks from this restaurant. Yelp lead me to this place. Apparently it is run by the previous owners of Riverside Diner. I decided to go with the Angry Mother Clucker. I took the first bite, and realized it was a burger, not a chicken sandwich. The waitress was very apologetic, and they brought the correct sandwich out pretty quick. First off, the buns they use are way too big for the portions served(as you can see in the pictures). I was told the onion rings were hand breaded, but they didn't appear so. They have only been open since November, so I will have to return, and try something else. They do have daily specials, along with the regular menu. An up and coming little breakfast place in South City. The space gives old school diner vibes. And who doesn't love a good diner? The place is family run. Daughter and husband run the dining room. And mama is in the back doing her thing! The team was so welcoming and friendly. It's the kinda service that you don't see too much anymore. Now for the food, just a reminder, I'm not much of a breakfast person. If given the opportunity, I'll always order something better suited for lunch or dinner. This was no exception, and I was not disappointed. I went with a house salad. You don't usually expect too much from a little salad, but this one was great. Fresh and crunchy veggies with what I think are homemade croutons. My meal consisted of a generous helping of the best chicken and dumplings I've had in a long time. A thick steamy broth full of chicken and veggies and light fluffy dumplings. There was definitely enough for leftovers for my lunch the next day. My companions went with breakfast options. One had a fantastic breakfast sandwich. They were particularly pleased with the hash browns with a nice crispy crust and pillowy soft on the inside! The other friend went with country fried steak, which is always a favorite. The biscuits are thick and fluffy. The pot of coffee seems bottomless. They are currently in process for a liquor license. Great local breakfast eatery in the Carondelet Patch Neighborhood of South St. Louis City, just catty corner from Stacked Burger bar,. Standard breakfast offerings, a little on the heavy side. The prices are reasonable and they are open daily, except for Monday. They say they offer lunch too, but I did not see lunch on the breakfast menu. I love to support local first off! This is a great spot! Right off Michigan on Ivory, parking right out front. Very open and inviting setting, chairs are comfy too. I came last week and got the City fried steak, that gravy is so yummy. Steak was perfectly cooked, and the potatoes on the side were good too. Today I got Scott's country omelet, it is a 5 egg omelet, needless to say I was full on less than half of it. Lunch for later! Kayla is an amazing server, very personable and on it. mamas breakfast table is the sister to the wonderful riverside diner! i was impressed with how they maneuvered the saturday morning crowd, considering they've only been open a little less than 2 weeks. it's clean, bright, and open. the waiting staff was attentive and friendly. my mother ordered a full breakfast of biscuits & gravy, bacon, and hash browns.
