Five stars for being good at what it is, a hole in the wall breakfast/lunch joint. Had a great ham and cheese omelette and malty pancake for under $16 if paying cash. Service was great. Just a really cute small homestyle café with great downhome cooking. Portions sizes are great, Wait staff friendly and prices reasonable for the amount of food you get. For a small place they stay extremely busy but we'll worth the wait. Family owned small business, lgbtq friendly. read more

Small, locally owned business. Customers always seem to be regulars. Their Facebook post of the lunch special drew me in. Reuben sandwich, with fries, tots, or onion rings for $12.99. Huge sandwich, that I probably should have saved half for dinner. The only improvement I would like to see, is their 1000 island dressing. It was very thin and didn't have any pickle relish in it. Went on a Saturday morning around 10:00 off of a suggestion from the in-laws. It was unusually slow, according to the in-laws. We were told they had a lot of Door Dash orders and most of their usuals were out of town, so we got lucky! Everyone working was attentive and friendly. They have your standard breakfast options and a few specials, which Blueberry Lemon Curd French toast (I ordered and loved!) and Eggs Benny. I did substitute the hash browns casserole for roasted potatoes, per recommendation. They were great! My fiancée got the country fried steak with scrambled eggs and a biscuit. His country fried steak and biscuit were delicious. He thinks the biscuits may be homemade. His eggs weren't the best he's ever had, but he's kind of a scrambled egg snob, so nothing against Riverside! He'll probably go with the biscuits and gravy next time. Still after all this time! The best breakfast on the south side. I come here every weekend, because it is the best! Sometimes I come by myself and sit at the bar. On the weekend, I always call before I leave the house to be put on the list. The wait is always worth it. You can also call on the weekends and get a to go order. They put their specials for the day up on their facebook page too, so I usually know what I am ordering before I walk in the door. The best staff, the service is top notch! Nice location in the Patch area of St Louis. The diner is beautifully decorated on the inside and very family friendly. Servers were nice and accommodating with coffee refills. I had the BBB which is biscuits and gravy with sausage, eggs, and potatoes. My wife had the Saturday special of strawberry pancakes with scrambled eggs and sausage. It's one of our favorite places for breakfast. Always good food and service. Very cozy inside but not so crowded that you bump the table next to you. When it is just the two of us, we like to sit at the bar in front of the TV. Today, we enjoyed a vintage Price is Right show. Daily specials change frequently. Two visits in, Riverside Diner is now my favorite greasy spoon in St. Louis. It's tucked away on an unlikely street in Carondelet. The interior is cozy and welcoming, and the service is great. The patty melt was insanely good - hamburger patty with thousand island, delicious grilled onions and pickle and somehow only $6.99 in 2023?! The corned beef hash was also fantastic the first time I went. I am not a gravy aficionado, so I can't comment on how that stacks up to other places. We will be back! First off, do not be put off by the neighborhood or the exterior of this place. The interior is small but clean, the service is excellent, the breakfast and pricing are great; the portions are very generous. Eat late enough in the morning you may not need supper. We've had the Biscuits and Gravy, the traditional breakfast, eggs and meat etc., the pancakes and the slinger. Hidden gem, you can get the slinger prepared with two tamales instead of the hamburger patty. I think they charge an extra $1 or such, but if you like tamales, totally worth it. Riverside Diner is on the corner. We went in early and saw lots of people, yet a few open booths. We got one and saw people at the bar watching Cheers. It was an appropriate opening, because there were lots of people coming in and out, and yes, they did know their names. We ordered the 2x2x2x2 special with French toast (usually comes with pancakes) and a South Side slinger. While I was remiss and did not get a full photo of my husband's 2x2x2x2, I did get one of my slinger and taste his French toast. Everything was well prepared and my slinger with sourdough toast was a stellar representation of this classic dish. Would highly recommend them. read more

This place is a gem. We were looking some solid diner food this morning and we weren't disappointed. The outside of the place may deter you but please give it a chance! We walked in and you immediately feel comfort. The place was packed, so we sat at the bar. Even though they were busy, the servers were amazing with communication and prioritization. You can tell that it wasn't their first rodeo. There was a table of at least 12 people among the packed restaurant that ordered around the same time we did and we still got our food in a timely manner. Our coffee stay hot and filled. If you are a tourist do not go here. The area where this restaurant is located is decrepit and close to stinky factories polluting the air. Still. I came here due to the outstanding reviews. I walked in here, sat at a table and nobody came to greet me for 15 minutes. This is clearly a locals place and my presence was not a priority. I was given menus and then I sat and waited another 15 minutes for the server to take my order. The server brought coffee and no cream. Had to sit and wait another ten minutes so I could ask for cream. When I asked for cream for my coffee they brought a basket of fake creamer. They do not actually have cream or half and half for coffee in this place. Coffeemate creamer IS NOT CREAM. UPDATE: The owner replied and said they do have cream. If that's the case the servers need to be informed. Because I asked my server for cream, half and half, whole milk -- anything that wasn't coffeemate -- and the server said coffeemate was all they had! The omelet I had was just okay and in fact salty. The sausage gravy everyone raves about was gross. If you think that's good sausage gravy then you haven't had good sausage gravy. The biscuit tasted artificial. Now I have a stomach ache. This was our first time at Riverside Diner and I'm glad we tried somewhere new for breakfast. Its a nice small place nestled in an Industrial area with good character. Homey inside with friendly good service. Food was flavorful and presentation was on point. We tried the Veggie Omelet and the (BBB) Big Biscuit Breakfast. The Veggie Omelet was light & airy just as requested. Added jalapeños for a nice kick! Seasoned potatoes had a nice little crunch to them. Side order of crispy bacon was just that "Crispy" Mmm! The BBB had great flavor with a open face biscuit with sausage patties, eggs (to your liking) and smothered in sausage gravy. The sausage gravy had a great consistency with just enough black pepper to give it some spice. I thought about trying the pancakes but didn't. Then I saw a plate of them go pass our table and Holy Schnikey did they look good. (Next Time) Breakfast "All Day" & Lunch starts at "10:30". We will definitely be back again. I've been here before. The food is aplenty, tasty and priced right. There is usually a wait... but totally worth it. One of my friends got biscuits and gravy w/sausage. The other got bacon. I got the Carnivore (I love hamburger.) with some fried potatoes. My friend's bacon was cooked perfectly and she had about 6 pieces! The gravy was good but it was better the last time we were there but talking to my friends who've made gravy a ton of times..."sometimes it just doesn't work". So that's not a deal breaker. However for some reason it was a bit cold. The wait staff are very nice and it seems like they help one another out. Which I love. I brought home one of the specials, a chicken and waffle breakfast with potatoe casserole and scrambled eggs. By the time I took it home the wake was too soft to eat. Maybe put the syrup and butter on the side next time. The chicken was good and while I thought it looked over fried I was told that it wasn't and that it was moist inside and very tasty.
