Came here for breakfast on a Sunday late morning. They have a few tables for outside dining or you can sit inside. The parking lot was filling fast. I'm glad I entered from the opposite way google maps wanted me to add the lot isn't as big as it should be. The seating inside is a little cramped to me, at least where they sat us. It was a 2 top next to the wall across from a 4 top. Between our table and the next was a tiny path to the bathroom area which is too close. Next time, I'll be specific with where not to seat me. Outside of that, the service was really good. Great staff, very attentive. Menu had a nice option so it took us a minute to fully review the menu. The food was delicious. Cinnamon roll was very sweet as expected so brace yourself. My menu mimosa was pretty good. A lot of pulp from the mango and not enough champagne but still enjoyable. We will definitely. read more

My husband and I wanted to try a new breakfast spot. We stopped by another spot in the area but the wait time was over an hour. So we pivoted and came across Chris' pancakes. Upon arriving, the parking lot appeared jammed pack, and you could tell there was a wait. I checked us in to be put on the waiting list. Our wait was about 30 minutes. We were sat at a two top table. A server came over to grab our drink order, and our actual server came over to introduce his self. Our server was polite and willing to answer any questions I had. We waited about 30-40 minutes for our food to come out. I ordered short stack pancakes (w/strawberries and blueberries), bacon and eggs. The pancakes were huge, fluffy, and savory. Bacon was crispy, and eggs were cooked perfectly. My husband ordered a country omelet that came with a side of pancakes. He stated his pancakes were rubbery, but his omelet was good. This place is not very big and can feel quite cramped when full. There's not much room to stretch out, and when people are walking past it feels as if they are all up on you. Generally I have a terrific experience. However today they did not have buckwheat pancakes (how is that possible?!) and I settled for Frech toast. It was so dry that if I had tasted it with my eyes closed I would have thought it was plain toast. The service was very friendly fly and a quick 15 minute wait on a Sunday morning. The food was good but not necessarily worth a 30+ minute drive for us. I enjoyed the biscuits and gravy which was a HUGE portion. The rest of the family enjoyed pancakes and sides. The chocolate chip pancake did have a strange aftertaste like dishwater but the other pancakes tasted fine. Worth trying if you're in the area and the lunch menu looked good. Breakfast early on a Saturday morning. They have on online waitlist but we didn't need it this early. Snagged a spot on the street right in front but they also have a small parking lot. Walked in and we were seated right away. Mindy was our server; she got us started with water and we ordered coffee. Mindy was friendly and waited on us with a smile. She took our order and the food arrived in a flash. I had let this place fall off my radar for whatever reason, but our food was fast and hot, and everything was great. I got a classic breakfast with Salsiccia. Eggs over easy and dry wheat toast. The order came out correct and the eggs were cooked as asked for. When my wife and I visit our relatives on the hill, we make it a point to travel over to Chris's pancake house. We know we can usually be waited on and receive excellent food in a timely matter. That makes getting in and out expedient. I have a fondness for the restaurant because of one of their dishes the Johnny rabbit breakfast from the radio station KXOK. My band, the Sound Waves. Appeared several times with the celebrities and disc jockeys. Don a.k.a. Johnny rabbit was a good friend and excellent entertainer and brought St. Louis much fame. I don't know if he ate at this restaurant, but I was impressed to see his name on the menu. I highly recommend visiting this restaurant for good food and service. After reviewing the drink specials I ordered a brown sugar cinnamon latte. I didn't really taste any brown sugar cinnamon. I really had a hankering for that flavor. I chose the half classic breakfast which includes one egg, two strips of bacon, hash browns or fruit and toast or pancakes. I'm glad I got the half. I ordered my egg scrambled. The egg had liquid on the plate and seemed undercooked. I asked for crispy bacon and it was cooked perfectly and they tasted great. I chose fresh fruit over hash browns and it consisted of cantaloupe and honeydew. The fruit was juicy but lacking in flavor. The restaurant should think about serving other fruit. I chose pancakes over toast and the pancakes were served hot and are very filling. The restaurant is very homey and what you expect from an established restaurant on The Hill. Dainna was my server and she was great. She treated me like I was family that she liked. They have a parking lot and there's plenty of street parking around the restaurant. Had a mini staycation and decided to check out Chris' Pancake to see what the hype was about. I went there for a weekday breakfast and the interior is similar to your typical neighborhood restaurant. The staff was quick and helpful with getting me to a table, so that was good. I ordered an omelette with pancakes, but I was definitely blown away with the finding out that you also get an additional choice of hash browns or fruit. They offered so much food for the price of the meal, and I definitely wasn't able to eat it all. On the downside I was disappointed with the quality of the pancakes, they looked great on the outside but they were so dense and chewy. read more

I was told this place had a pretty tasty breakfast so we decided to see for ourselves! We did not agree that it was all that great. We entered the building and figured out where to wait for a hostess. I hope she was having a bad day and isn't always as unpleasant as she was when she seated us. There was no greeting, no smile, just a real sour look. She seated us and took our coffee order. A server came over pretty quickly and we were not ready to order yet. As we were seated right next to the kitchen, he saw us often! We eventually made our meal choices and were ready to order. My husband ordered the South of the Border bowl. He said that it was okay. He got some toast with that as well. I got French toast and it was good - and way too much. Our server told us AFTER we were finished that I could have ordered half an order. I got a side of bacon and barely ate any of it because it was way overcooked and didn't taste good. A side came with the French toast and I got a bowl of fruit. It was about 90% honey dew and it had no flavor whatsoever. I did get an Irish coffee and it was good - and very strong! Our server saw how much food I had left and never asked if there may have been a problem. I doubt we'll be back. read more

For a first visit with friends that encouraged me to try Chris's I was extremely disappointed. My assumption is they have been much better. They are a bit of a local institution it seems and established decades ago. However, little really worked well on their food dragging it below par for myself and son. The location of the restaurant is situated on a corner with both off street parking and a lot behind them. Be mindful it's one-way traffic flow beside them. The lot was tidy as was the walk up. They offer alfresco dining up front, but we opted for an interior booth. There was no wait and a friendly male hostess set us up at the table with menus. The interior is sprawling with different sections and a small room that could be utilized for events. The rooms were maintained and clean. This is the best part of the review unfortunately. A female brought waters to the table and got my coffee order. No communication if this would be our waitress. Later another woman came back with coffee and was prepared to take our order. Very straight forward, no smile. If you have pancakes in your name in my opinion you should bring it! Friends raved about their experiences just prior to covid that they had the best cakes in Saint Louis. So we both ordered the small stacks which are two large pancakes. We both got scrambled eggs and sausage patties. Our order arrived around 15 minutes later and visually looked fine. The butter is served in packets which I don't care for, but no deduction either. We were each provided our own syrup container. After preparing the pancake with butter and syrup we both agreed the cakes were dry. The syrup rolled off the cakes which confirmed they were not moist. In general they lacked flavor and no additional syrup helped them. This alone sunk the review below par. However further damage to the rating was the sausage, it was like a too tough, but somewhat edible. The eggs were tasty, light and fluffy needing no additional seasoning. But the eggs alone could not salvage my composite score. The waitress unfortunately never asked how the meal was. There was no coffee refill. I would not recommend and I personally will not return. The value for meal if tasty wound have been good with the ticket running $40ish tax & tip. 2.5 rounding down. read more

I ordered the breakfast rice bowl I had to add so many different toppings just to get flavor like peppers, sausage, egg, and hashbrowns cheese and onion. I thought it was overpriced. For 3 adults & a kid our bill was 148$ for breakfast food 2 breakfast bowls 1 with add ons & 2 platters 1 bacon egg & cheese platter & sausage was so hard that it wouldn't break like they cooked it the day before---Disgusting!!! I was disappointed when my drink described as a "chai" was more of a chai latte rather than just a simple tea. It wasn't bad, but not what I thought I ordered. Usually, Chris' has been an outstanding place for breakfast. I have gone weekly to different breakfast meetings for a couple of years. However, recent experiences with the sound level and the service of one particular waitress have led me to give Chris' less than five stars. I did ask to talk to the manager about this waitress, and to my surprise, the manager did not attempt to accommodate my concerns. The food is usually very good. Excellent unique offerings for breakfast. Prices are fair. However, if you want a light breakfast, even just oatmeal with a cup of coffee will add up to over $10. Another detraction about Chris' is how noisy it can get when busy in the morning. I have had difficulty being able to hear my companion who was sitting right next to me. I wish I could write a stellar review for Chris', but perhaps if they work on these issues, I can in the future. read more
