China Bistro is inside Pan Asia Supermarket, so it's not really a traditional sit-down restaurant, but the food is seriously good if you're looking for bold Chinese flavors. We ordered the cumin beef, twice cooked pork, beef noodle soup, fish in chili oil, and also a beef pho (not pictured because we started eating it right away). The twice cooked pork was my favorite. Really flavorful pork belly with leeks and chili, a little smoky from the wok, and perfect with rice. I'd go back just for that dish. The cumin beef was also great -- lots of cumin and spices with crispy bits of beef. The fish in chili oil came in a huge bowl packed with dried chilies, garlic, and peppercorns. Definitely spicy but really good if you like Sichuan-style dishes. The beef noodle soup was comforting and hearty, and the beef pho was solid too -- good broth and a big bowl. It's a pretty casual setup since it's inside the grocery store, but the food is legit and the portions are generous. China Bistro located inside Pan Asia grocery store is a true gem. My family really enjoys their food. It is super convenient for Asian cuisine while shopping and taste really good. Place your order, go shop a little and go back and grab your food or stay and eat-in at one of the many tables. The #17 noodles, no protein is my absolute go-to FAVORITE dish along with the sauteed green beans and their plain fried rice is better than their shrimp fried rice. I love that they offer whole and half duck. I have to try the crispy pork that hangs along side the duck in addition to the duck. Also the prices are reasonable and the portion size is nice. What more could you want than an absolutely delicious meal while grocery shopping?! My husband and I came to Pan Asia to grab some groceries and decided we would do an early dinner and try out China Bistro! It was an excellent idea given that our meal was magnificent and super delicious! The service was friendly and fast, and the price was very reasonable (you get a lot of food!). We also grabbed boba from the neighboring stand (Cube Tea who I have reviewed!) and the combination was exceptional! I love grocery shopping especially with my husband so the ambiance of eating a delicious and comforting meal inside a grocery store is truly peak! This place has been consistently very good. I had lunch from there yesterday. I got Yum Chow rice and it was as amazing as always. My favorite order for the family for dinner: egg noodles with shrimp, Singapore noodles and 2 pieces of bbq pork. Everything is so fresh and tasty. I have a hack how I get it. A few months ago we went right before closing, I got duck and...rice, I believe. I forgot what my wife had ordered. But we brought the food home and it was practically inedible. The duck was so dry it was like jerky. I was very disappointed. Fast forward to last night, i thought hell, why not, I'm going to give it another go. So glad I did! I grabbed the Young Chow Fried Rice and man was it such a change. I hate to say it but this could possibly be the best fried rice I've ever had. The pork was cooked perfectly, great texture, it added amazing flavour to the dish. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. No added soy sauce was needed. I was totally surprised because when I got home with the rice and opened it up it first appeared anemic. I loved that the veggies served with Pho had been always fresh which made a huge difference compared to other places. I also liked their beef chow fun a lot. I was always excited to eat here. However, the quality of food has declined drastically over the past few months. In particular the beef stew thick noodle soup which used to be a highlight now tastes diluted. Still it was better than the spicy seafood thick noodle soup which was just plain bland. When we complained the waiter took the bowl away and instead of making a new one he brought the same bowl back claiming that they added more seasoning to it. Sorry there was hardly any improvement. This was my first time trying China Bistro! I was extremely surprised by how delicious and inexpensive it is. I ordered the pork bun, which was very delicious--the stuffing was soft and tasty. The sweet Singapore noodles with shrimp were not so good. I can't pinpoint the specific spice used, but I think it's yellow curry because it left my fingers yellow, and the taste was not pleasing. My favorite was the BBQ pork with white rice, which also came with vegetables--absolutely delicious! Each plate was only $9.99 with a very nice portion. I will definitely be going back. read more

Hidden inside the Asian market on Manchester, it's a place that you can't see off the road. True hidden gem. This isn't really a restaurant. I'd describe it more as a food stand. This isn't a place you're going to get an egg roll and sesame chicken. China Bistro serves AUTHENTIC Chinese food You see the red whole ducks hanging upside down (delicious). When you order the duck, a man with a giant meat cleaver chops it up with authority and packs it up for you, head, beak and all. I recommend the beef chow fun and the curry street noodles. I've reviewed China Bistro before within Pan-Asia's Yelp page, but I thought it was about time I reviewed it on its own page. I come here at least once a week and even more frequently when my family visits and is craving authentic Chinese food. I have probably tried 70% of the menu but we almost always order the same entrees because they are tried and true and consistently tasty. My favorites: #16 Beef chow fun. It's sold out a few times when I ordered it too late in the day because it's just THAT good and authentic. Its flavor cannot be beat by any other chow fun I've tried in St. Louis. #27. Fish fillet in wine sauce: tender fish coated in velvety sauce and wood ear mushroom. This comes with rice. -tofu with seafood, also comes with rice. -roast duck and Chinese BBQ pork. You can order by 1/2 pound or whole pound, or you can order it with rice as an entree, -Taiwan style stir-fried rice noodles--the thin rice noodles with shrimp, pork, veggies. -any of the pho noodle soups. Tip on the pho--it tastes best in the restaurant instead of carrying out because the beef is raw and needs to be cooked in the hot pho broth. You could reheat the soup on the stove and put the beef in if you do carry-out. -Jian Dui--these are technically next to restaurant in the ready-made food section, but they are worth mentioning because they make them fresh in the restaurant and they are SO good when they come out piping hot. They're chewy fried sesame seed balls with red bean paste filling. If you like spicy food, the spicy seafood thick noodle soup is similar to the Korean seafood noodle soup jjamppong. I do wish that it was easier to call ahead and order for carry-out. Sometimes I call the phone number listed and I can't get anyone to pick up. It's easier to order in person, get your groceries, and come back in 10 minutes to pick up your food. read more

Sometimes there are very long lines however they cook so fast, you really won't be waiting too long. We've tried many of their menu items and today we went for a smorgasbord of goodness: -combination fried rice. You can add more meat for extra $ -pho with sliced beef -1/2 lb of bbq pork -spicy pork (not on the main menu) -bamboo beef (it's not on the main menu, it's written off to the side!) This small restaurant located in the Pan-Asian Market has excellent food for reasonable prices. The Pho broth is well seasoned and beefy. The add ins are super fresh so the cilantro and basil add aroma and taste instantly when added to the broth. Caution, the Jalapeños do the same and add heat too. Yum! Between the Bistro and Corner 17, there is no other reason to grab Chinese Food from anywhere else in the St. Louis region. We definitely have our go to items (cumin lamb, Singapore noodles and bbq pork). As we have found though, you can't go wrong. Also you can kill two birds with one stone as the Bistro is located within the Pan Asia Market, so we can also get out shopping in and get great food. We live pretty far out in Defiance, so having both opportunities in one spot is great! read more

Fantastic little cafe inside Pan Asia supermarket never disappoints. They have reopened and have new hours until 7 pm most nights. My favorite here will always be Beef Chow Fun with their delicious homemade chewy wide noodles. A taste explosion with savory tender beef steak slices, onion, green onion, and bean sprouts in a delicious simple soy sauce. I also got a delicious egg and ham pan bread(a sweet dough) breakfast sandwich. Super tasty and reasonable prices for huge portions. Delish. Someday I want to try their Peking duck, too. read more

Prices are affordable and portions are generous! However, the food wasn't too impressive. We ordered the beef stew thick noodle soup, the Beijing signature noodle, and the dan dan mian. I think a big issue for me for all three noodle dishes was that I wasn't a big fan of the noodles themselves. They just had a very flat texture, and they lacked bounce/chew? It's hard to describe! #20. Beef stew thick noodle soup was a pretty standard beef noodle soup. The beef itself was quite tasty, but the soup was rather bland. This was my least favorite dish. #19. Beijing signature noodles, aka zha jiang mian, was the best of the three dishes, but overall not worth returning to get. The name of the dish on the English menu is rather unrevealing, but it's essentially a meat, veggie and bean paste mix. I was a bit disappointed at first, only because the picture on the menu looked like jajangmyeon, which is the Korean equivalent of these bean paste noodles. Those are thicker, saucier and sweeter than the Chinese version, which can be less saucy and the taste of bean paste is usually stronger. This dish definitely could have used more sauce, since the sauce to noodle ratio was a rather low. #18. Dan dan mian. The spice did overwhelm the other flavors of the sauce though. Went to China Bistro for first time today. Food was excellent. We tried the fried rice, Dan Dan and roast duck. Great flavors in all of it. I ordered the Dan Dan sauce on the side so I could add the amount I wanted. Great taste but too hot for me to use all of it. But now I have some to use at home. Roast duck is quite good. Unassuming counter inside Pan-Asian Supermarket, but pretty decent and as authentic as it seems to get for this non-East Asian. Portions were huge for the fried rice and chow fun orders. My beef chow fun noodles had a nice smokiness to them, and the sauce was really savory. Beef fried rice was good, pretty much like what you get from the decent take out Chinese restaurants. I would have liked the beef to be a little crispier, though. Roast duck with white rice dish had very good roast duck. The duck had a rich, pleasant, tenderness to it and wasn't greasy as I've unfortunately had elsewhere.
