Bad experience 5 days ago with spoiled meat (Mongolian Beef) which we door dashed along with some other items from them. I called each day requesting to speak to the manager about it and was told each time he would call me right back. I won't be trying them again. Handled poorly and definitely rotten meat. This is a quick spot for carry out mostly. We stopped there for a lunch recently after a visit to the DMV across the street. The counter person who waited on us had no personality and acted as if he was imposed upon. Not a good start. We ordered eat in and took a seat. About 10 minutes later we were called to the counter and our order was packaged for take out instead of eat in. Oh well. We ordered the lunch special menu. I had hot and sour soup with urban chick and fried rice. My wife had Moomoo gai pan with the hot and sour soup and white rice. The soup was hot but tasted like they added cornstarch to thicken it up. Rather bland but plenty of tofu and mushrooms. Not great, but not the worst I've had. the Hunan Chicken was rather bland. No sweetness to the sauce just loaded with red pepper flakes. Not a winner by any measure. The Moomoo gai pan was just bland, but the veggies were crispy. This place is really good. I only give it 4 because out of the 2 or 3 times I've ordered it seems like something isn't consistent. The first time the rice was tasteless and then the egg roll wasn't good another time. That said this is one of my favorite Chinese places now. Chesterfield is devoid of decent Chinese restaurants, it seems, unless we are missing something. We just wanted a quick Chinese lunch today and were partway to 88 China so decided to give it a second try. We understand these strip mall Chinese places are never great, but had been here once before and it seemed to be a little better than most. I think we stand by that rating. Truly the current 2-1/2 star rating is about right. There is Valley Wok, Hunan Express on Clarkson and Panda Express. None of these are worth returning to. We had very large servings of Chicken and Broccoli and Szechuan Chicken and Shrimp. There were plenty of vegetables. We liked the vegetable egg roll. My Szechuan chicken was in a sweet, clear reddish sauce a little too much like sweet and sour for me. Next time I will see if I can find something with a darker, less sweet sauce and would order extra spicy. The sauce was also very heavily applied. I fished my food out of the sauce. The sauce overwhelms the flavors of the food. As I say, we did not go in expecting great food. It was OK, not profound. I think we will return for lack of anything better. That is not a strong testimonial, I fear, but there it is. We had simply bad food at Panda Express and Hunan Express. We felt this was better than Valley Wok. So I'd recommend skipping that all together and going with plain white rice. The General Tso's Chicken however was the BEST I've had in the area. If you want good quality chicken/ meat this place is great. Also we got the shrimp in lobster sauce and shrimp fried rice, shrimp tasted great. So decided to try this place out since we live right down the street. Had good reviews but sadly it's not good. Only item that was truly enjoyable was the crab Rangoon. Both orders of general Tao chicken was gross (one even had shrimp), the crab stick app totally inedible, hot and sour soup took one bite and it went right into the trash, my daughters lobster fried rice had no lobster only Tiny bits of imitation crab which she said was okay but she was super disappointed there was no lobster & honestly so was because I paid for lobster. I honestly will probably never order from here again. Total waste of money! We throw 80% of it away unfortunately. read more

We've been frequenting 88 China for over 8 years and sadly tonight will be the last time. My wife placed our usual order of combination plates. Unfortunately she called them meals instead of combination plates. When she got home with the the order we had only whole orders of the entrees and small orders of white rice instead of what we had ordered. I called and began explaining it to the young man there. He immediately cut me off and said that my wife had ordered incorrectly. I tried to explain that I only wanted to get the fried rice for the orders as we had asked for. He hung up on me midsentence and would not answer when I called back. My with then called to address or issues and he went into a profanity filled rant and hung up on her. She called back, asked for the manager, who's only response was that her son (who takes the orders) annoys her as well. I am shocked at the behavior of this young man and the lackadaisical reaction of his mother. They have lost loyal customers. read more

Worst Chinese food we have ever eaten, smelled, or seen. We ordered for two. Made us sick, we finished less than half of our food. Too bad.... we loved this place under the former owners. Rice was reheated and old, and I literally spit out my beef entree after biting into something that had gone off. Our kitchen bin smells like a sewer now that it's in the trash. Got a to-go order on a very cold Sunday afternoon in March. I ordered a Hot N Sour Soup, a 4pc Crab Rangoon, and the House Special (Beef, Pork, Chicken, & Shrimp) Lo Mein. The Hot N Sour Soup and the Crab Rangoon were both adequate and typical of any strip mall carryout Chinese place. The Lo Mein was probably the worst I've ever had. The crab sticks were so chewy and off tasting I spit it out. I wasn't exactly expecting real crab at that price but this didn't taste fresh at all. The fried wontons are also incredibly chewy, and I mean the skins not the filling. The filling had no flavor at all. I also got wonton soup, which was full of the same disappointing wontons only they were boiled instead of fried, so they were even more off putting. The broth was pretty water too. The beef skewers were cooked to the point of jerky, and the marinade or glaze was just sickly sweet. The beef fried rice just looked gross and I didn't bother eating it.
