What a find this was! See pictures for the interior feel of the place. That's the only down side. Small place, feels more like a place to order take out. Not really conducive to eat in, it's not a totally comfortable vibe. But we did! As well as a few other people that came at the same time. The service was great! Server guy, I'm not sure what to call him, was extremely attentive, personable and did pretty much all the running around while we were there. He handled all the tables, handled the people picking up food for take out, and did it all smoothly. The food really was amazing. Again, see the pictures I posted. We over ordered, on purpose, to try a little of a lot of things. The corn soup was different, but good. Seems to be a mix of a few cans of cream corn, broth, and a few chicken bits (if you ordered chicken). We found it pleasant. The fried spinach was amazing. The yellow curry was amazing. The Mongolian beef was amazing. Thank you for the rice, there was quite a bit of it and the fried shrimp (I forget the official name...fried shrimp?) off the appetizer menu) was AMAZING. We will definitely go back. Even if it's just take out. I must say....we took the left overs home and they made the trip just fine and were still good as left overs. Highly recommend. I didn't expect it to be fully authentic but unfortunately it still missed the mark on both flavor and texture. The actual dish is supposed to be semi dry, a bit crispy, garlicky, more spicy than sweet. This was soggy and salty (from too much soy sauce potentially). I really wanted to like it, alas! read more

Service was friendly and efficient. Ordered: - Kwantung Chicken (3.5/5): breaded chicken coated in a sweet and mild spicy sauce. Served with some bell peppers and onions. Sauce was tasty. Chicken didn't seem exceptionally fresh. I am guessing chicken was cooked earlier and then just dressed with the sauce after order was placed. Would have been 4+ if it was fresher. - fried rice (3.5/5): classic treatment with egg, peas, green onion, soy, etc. Didn't seem exceptionally fresh. - veggie roll and ragoon (3/5): decent. I have been wanting to try China in Bombay for years but just never made it there. I called in a to-go order for a random weeknight. I ordered the crab Rangoon, hot & sour soup, vegetable fried rice, Gobi Manchurian, and Baby Corn Bhazzia. I have had Indo-Chinese food previously at Indian restaurants and was hoping for more here. When I walked in the guy said my order was almost ready. By the time he added and I paid the kitchen was bagging it up. I was pleasantly surprised here when I got home and we started tasting all of the food. My favorite things here were the Baby Corn Bhazzia and the Gobi Manchurian. I love Gobi Manchurian. It's like General Tso's chicken but there's cauliflower on the inside instead of chicken. The rice, crab Rangoon, and soup were all pretty standard. As of June 2022 there is no dine in here. I truly do not like giving bad reviews on local, small, family businesses. However this is my 2nd time trying this establishment and I was more unsatisfied the 2nd time around. Safe to say I will not try my luck a 3rd time. My most recent experience I called in an order at NOON. Their online website states their hours are 11-2 and lists what is available . When I picked up my order I realized I was not receiving the same pricing as what's listed online. When I inquired why, the individual stated I didn't specify I wanted the lunch specials. I expressed my concern to them and how that was confusing as I called during the lunch time frame. The individual simply just stood there with a smile, said sorry, all the food is here, and repeated I did not specify and to make sure I specified next time. They never offered to adjust the pricing or take any accountability. I get home to taste food and I am not pleased. For myself I ordered Stir Fried Seasonal Vegetables (Chile Szechwan garlic/black pepper/chili oyster /black bean/hot garlic) The food was not seasoned. It reminded me of frozen microwave vegetables. For my other meal I ordered orange chicken. The chicken was dry and did not come with enough sauce. There was not enough rice provided for both meals. read more

This is my spot. Don't even bother going to Panda Express when this is right down the street. I mean I would gate-keep but these people CANNOT go out of business (I know I cant save their business) Their chicken 65 is amazingly spicy and crunchy. Lunch specials always FILLLED with fried rice, and the beef and broccoli is great. They stopped giving fortune cookies:( but they make up for it with all the amazing menu items and great prices. How does anyone dare to rate this place lower than a 5? Their spicy shrimp is so good. So is their regular shrimp. So is their veggie meal, I love how crispy the watercress is. I cannot express enough how much I love it here. The owners are so nice and the workers are awesome! Their wait time is like 10 minutes for a huge order too. Sorry for the eh quality photo too. We didn't have time for a photo cause we ate it all immediately! They always get catering orders whenever I'm in there so if you want HALAL Chinese catering then order from here. The lunch specials here are great and the SIDES. Every lunch special comes with delicious sweet crab rangoon and spring rolls. I don't get the soup often cause I order for my family, but I tried Hot & Sour when I was younger and I STILL think about it. It's a small place with great food it would be a little hard to dine-in there but you should definitely try them for takeout and it stays fresh a while! Whenever my extended family's in town we get Bombay and they always love it. We tell everyone we can about this place. Service-4 Ambiance-3 Food-4 Value-5 Indian Chinese food is an institution and very special to all Indians. This cuisine is in short supply in St Louis area sadly. I have tried various Indian restaurants in the area for their Indian Chinese version and have been sorely disappointed. China in Bombay is a take on this cuisine and though it's not the Indian Chinese I crave for, its the closest I have sampled in St Louis. The shrimp pepper salt and Gobi Manchurian is crispy and deep fried, so will be easy on the palate. The star of the evening was the hot and sour soup( was not very sour though). The egg fried rice was next best dish. Then I would say Chicken Manchurian came a close third with a brown sauce that I love. The Hakka noodles is similar to American Chinese than Indian Chinese- but not bad.. Overall a nice dinner with a surprise live performance of Christmas songs. The restaurant is so small that it's more of a takeout really! But they made an effort to make our evening special- bonus star for that! read more

Chicken 65 (you can ask for white meat only and the quality is much better- well worth the small up charge) Vegetable noodles Fries spinach Corn and mushrooms kwantung beef Chili shrimp What could improve- Too much oil on everything. Look, I know it comes from the wok but not everything needs to be deep fried. We ask for lighter oil and they manage to do it most of the time. This is why they get 4 instead of 5 stars. Why do we go there? It's a family business so we like supporting. The food is notable and caters to all of our family members' tastes (kids, halal, vegans, me). Despite rumors to the contrary, China in Bombay continues to sell only halal meat. Their food is great and the owner adamantly defends himself against detractors and rumour mongers who claim that he stated he's no longer sells halal. If you have doubts, look at December's receipt. To those who are spreading rumors, you're only hurting yourself. If it's a competitor, your business should be strong enough to be competitive and you need not stop so low. They do not have to serve halal to be successful. It's a benefit to *your* community and a gift from him that he respects us enough to not consider purchasing non halal. We have been unsuccessful in finding a really good Chinese restaurant in West County. I had high hopes for China in Bombay with so many positive reviews, unfortunately it did not live up to the hype. We ordered the chicken potstickers, crab rangoon, general tso chicken and vegetable manchurian. The chicken potstickers were pretty good but VERY greasy. The crab rangoon was gross. The wrappers were not cooked long enough so they were super doughy and chewy. The filling was just a SUPER sweet cream cheese. No crab, imitation crab, green onion-nothing. It should be called sweet cream cheese wonton if you aren't putting the ingredient in the title in it. At $6 for 5, this was very pricy for something lacking the main ingredients. The general tso chicken was also excessively sweet. The chicken was mostly tough dark meat, the breading was weird and soggy-we couldn't quite figure out what was off, and the sauce lacked any real flavor other than super super sweet. The vegetable manchurian... Now to be fair, this was something new to us so maybe we just picked the wrong thing but it was not good. I don't know if the dumplings were under cooked or what but it tasted like raw doughy mush. It was the color of bread dough with tiny specs of orange I assume were carrots but no other vegetables that could be identified. It was sticky and mushy and just unappealing. The sauce had good heat to it but the consistency was like gloppy gel which was again, unappealing. After a couple bites it went in the trash-we just couldn't stomach it. The rice was cooked well-light and fluffy. Maybe we tried the wrong things but the meal was so off putting I don't think we will give it another shot. read more

This place is a hidden gem. It was recommended to me by a friend. I went for lunch. The hot and sour soup was spicy and thick the way I like it. The hot braised chicken had a great taste and had green onion, garlic, and other spices in it. I eat only halal food, and was visiting St. Louis from Kansas city. I checked the halal locations and found this Chinese restaurant. I went there with my whole group and we ordered several items from the menu. You won't believe that I saw the inventory was coming and the boxes of meat were not halal. Stopped by for lunch when I went to get my pants back from the tailor whose shop is a couple of doors down. This place is a dive but there's really nothing wrong with that. Lunch special was about $7. That ain't bad. First up was the soup. Apparently, everything comes with the soup because that was literally the first thing to hit the table. It is a thick soup, not a broth, with vegetables and a flavor that is also sweet and spicy at the same time. Big chunks of vegetables and red pepper flakes pair really well. It was a cold day but that soup warmed me up nicely. Chicken 65...no clue at all what is in the dish but it sure is good! I found it sweet and spicy at the same time. Very crunchy on the outside yet still juicy on the inside. They serve it with a generously sized crab rangoon and an egg roll that is on the smaller side. Both good but the rangoon was enough better than the egg roll that I will ask for two of them next time around. Fried rice rounds out the dish and was very well made albeit a bit salty, even for fried rice which is inherently salty. Dropped a 10-spot on the table and left very happy. We ordered take out on a Wednesday night around 6 and our food was ready within 15 minutes! The woman that answered the phone was nice enough to bring it out to my car since I had my two kids in car seats. We ordered the chili garlic noodles with shrimp, orange chicken, salt and pepper prawns, chicken corn soup, clear soup, and fried rice. Unfortunately when we got home the fried rice wasn't there but when I looked at the receipt, we weren't charged for it either. Accidents happen and we had more then enough food without it. 4.0 Stars Sometimes you just crave that cheap, tasty Chinese and don't care if it is good for you. While waiting for a haircut next door at Mike's Barborshop, I popped in here for a quick lunch. The decor/ambiance is not noteworthy, and the eating capacity is limited to a few 4-tops and 2-tops; this is clearly setup as a quick lunch stop or take out. The service was efficient although the server was on the phone when bringing out the food, which was an oddity. Then again, for $7, I was there for the food, not the service. On to the food: As the other reviews states, this restaurant leans more towards Chinese than Indian. I tried the Chicken 65 lunch special (hot and sour soup, two egg rolls, fried rice, and the chicken) based on the suggestion of another yelper and was not disappointed. The food arrived fast and was plenty hot. I like that it had some spice to it, because so often the little chile icons on the menu are there just for show. If you don't want the spice, avoid the green chilies and don't add the hot oil like I do. If I am looking for a quick, relatively cheap Chinese fix and in the area, I will stop by. I do not know if I will make any special trips to seek out China in Bombay yet. Maybe one or two more tries may convince me if it is worth keeping this in rotation over closer Chinese restaurants. read more

To start off, The food is really tasty. If you are willing to deal with all of the issues with this place, by all means go. The frustrations with this place; the chef/cook is late alot and you cannot order food when they open untill the chef is ready to cook. The menu and pricing are both very outdated on paper and online, you have no idea what the food actually costs untill they give you a total, and it is significantly more than whats on the menu. They do not do the lunch menu on fri-sun, which is fine, if it were listed as such. The lunch menu also lists soup as an option but they won't allow it. They close early frequently, even if you have ordered food and they know you'll be there to pick it up, doors lock early and you're sol. The lady at the front will refuse to give you any extra sauce packets if requested. Its ashame, I love the food, but Theres just too many issues that I don't think I'll be back. My advise to the owner is fix your customer service issues, update your menu to reflect actual business model and pricing, and a $.05 sauce packet or $.20 in white rice isn't worth losing business. Heck you could charge extra, just don't say no. read more

This was some of the best Chinese food we've had in a long time. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. The general Tsos chicken was huge, hot and crispy.
