My wife and I had a date night this past Friday, and she had been craving Indian food--specifically from Black Salt. I'm glad we finally gave it a try. The restaurant was clean and featured a modern décor, which made for a nice atmosphere right from the start. We were seated immediately upon arrival, which is always a plus on a Friday night. To start, my wife ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, and I went with my usual--a Corona with a lime. For our meals, she chose the Veggie Biryani, while I went with the Tandoori Chicken, with a side of rice and garlic naan. Her Veggie Biryani had that classic slow-building heat you expect from Indian cuisine. I tried a bite myself, and it definitely had a nice kick without being overwhelming. My Tandoori Chicken was cooked perfectly--tender, flavorful, and very satisfying. The garlic naan was also a standout and paired well with everything. Overall, the food, service, and experience were all very good. We'll definitely be returning to Black Salt the next time we're craving Indian food.
I have been wanting to try Black Salt for a while now since I saw it on the STL top 100 list. I ordered a butter chicken and some naan for take out. It was hot and ready before my pick up time which was great. The staff were super friendly as well. I enjoyed my meal it was tasty. I would definitely dine in next time as I think it would be even better and I can truly enjoy all the flavors.
I have visited black salt several times. They share a parking lot with other businesses. It's a smallish restaurant with very good Indian cuisine. The decor is tasteful and they have both tables and booths. I really appreciate that. They have plenty of protein options, including vegetarian and vegan dishes. On a particular visit for lunch, I ordered the executive lunch platter with the Punjabi choley and butter naan. The food was better than average. Service was very good.
Delicious dinner. I have been eyeing this place for a while. I went on a Sunday and there was plenty of seating. The hosts and my waitress were friendly and helpful. My server recommended the shahi paneer. This was my first time having this dish. It was so yummy and rich. It reminds me of butter chicken but less spicy. I also had the samosa chaat. I love any type is chaat and this one did not disappoint. It was another first for me. The yogurt, deconstructed samosas, beans and everything else in the dish was fantastic. Chaat, an Indian street food. is so good because there are all these flavors and mixed textures. They come together to create a perfectly balanced dish of sweet, tangy, and warm flavors. There are so many tasty sounding dishes on the menu. Can't wait to go back to try new (or the same) delicious dishes!
We went here for early lunch and immediately admired the cute, modern yet cozy interior decor. We ordered a mango lassi, which was the highlight. It comes in a cute glass and is not just creamy, but has cardamom flavor in it as well. They also have some tiny chewy mango pieces as a topping for the mango lassi. Besides that, we ordered Pani Puri, which was alright but I would have liked more potato filling in each one as there was only a little. For curries, we got Lamb vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. Lamb vindaloo was too watery, and did not have much flavor besides spiciness and tomato puree. Usually vindaloo is supposed to be a drier curry with less liquid gravy. Lamb also tasted a little overlooked and rubbery. Chicken tikka masala was good, nice creaminess and flavor. But my partner, who had been before, said butter chicken was better than the chicken tikka masala. Con: would like their lunch menu to be more clear. They had a lunch special but it just said "appetizer" and didn't specify that it would be a samosa. Also would like more of a description for the lunch Thali on their menu. We were also only given lunch menu initially and had to ask for their full menu. There were only 2 parties seated at the restaurant, so we would have liked for the servers to have paid more attention that our water was running low as we never had it refilled.
I LOVE Indian but dislike when it is so spicy you cannot taste anything but heat. Black Salt does a great job of adding tremendous flavor without too much heat. We requested our entrees mild and both the Lamb Korma and Signature Lahori Murgh. Black Miso Chicken Tika was a bit too spicy for us but luckily the sweet dressing on the side salad helped cool it down. Props to the Old Fashion, really good! And you must try the Fresh Lime Soda, so refreshing! Service was slow but we arrived during a busy time and it was obvious the other parties placed orders just prior to us.
Went here for lunch with a friend. Ordered the lunch special of chicken tikka masala. It came with rice, naan bread and somosas. We were asked for spice level and I asked for mine to be spicy. I also ordered a cucumber water to drink with it. Cucumber water was refreshing. Food came out relatively quick. Food was good but not very spicy. I love spicy food! Service was ok. Waitress came pretty quickly when we sat down, but it took a very long time to get our bill and when we did she gave us the credit card reader and left. We had to figure out how to split our bill. The place was smaller than I expected but clean. Had some interesting art work in the walls. I would def be open to going again, but there are some better places in the same area.
Damn this place is good! Joined some friends for dinner. Attentive "team" serving by multiple people. I liked the cocktail options. Mostly ordered what we have gotten before, but some standouts include: - Palak Chaat with Mango (4.75/5): this is addictive! GET THIS. - Kadhai Chicken - Medium spicy (4.75/5): I like this better than chicken tikka masala and butter chicken. Very tasty! - garlic naan (4.75/5): Phenomenal as always - Elaichi Mascarpone Gulab Jamun (4.75/5): Excellent, elegant, light. GET THIS!
Food: 5 Stars Service: 5 Stars I had always hoped for a fine dining Indian restaurant to open its doors near us, and the Food Gods must have heard my cries. In 2023, Black Salt dropped on my front doorstep and it had been one of the best things to happen to Chesterfield. I love this so effing much. Located within the heart of Chesterfield and along Clarkson Rd., you'll find Black Salt sitting behind McDonald's in the most unassuming place- A strip mall. It's a relatively small restaurant, but tables are always full of people smiling and laughing-clearly enjoying themselves. The restaurant is capable of seating small and larger groups. For larger groups, you'll want to be sure to coordinate with the staff in advance. Their menu offers a contemporary take on traditional Indian dishes, being sure to highlight the fragrant spices and bold flavors. Some of our favorites include: -Punjabi Samosa: Pastry pockets filled with spiced potatoes and peas. Pastry exterior is fried, giving a crunchy texture while the spiced potatoes on the inside are savory and fragrant with various spices. These make a great appetizer! - Andhra Sea Bass: This is my go-to. Their sea bass is seared so the outer layer has a beautiful crust while retaining a lot of the moisture within the flesh. Fish always ends up flakey and moist, almost melts in your mouth like butter. The coconut coriander sauce is creamy and hearty without feeling over indulgent. - Zafrani Lamb Chops: Savory and creamy saffron sauce is dressed over luscious lamb chops. We love sharing this with others at the table. - Naan: We have tried all of their naans, and our favorite is the chili garlic naan. (We like a little bit of heat in every part of our lives.) But honestly, they're all pretty fantastic. Enjoy! :)
Great place to try Indian food for the first time. The menu is so large and they also have pictures on their menu via yelp. You can also book a reservation via Yelp. The restaurant is smaller, so I highly recommend a reservation and they were consistently busy throughout the evening. This was on a Thursday night. I love that you can choose your spice level for your dishes. You can do low, medium, or spicy. We have tried the old-fashioned chicken, chicken, marsala, butter, chicken, and goat. Then we also both ordered naan. The old-fashioned chicken was good definitely spicy. The chicken marsala was good and I liked it had sausage dip the bread in. My family really enjoyed their dishes, which were the butter, chicken and goat To make it even better that we stop by our table and ask if there were any suggestions on improvement for his restaurant. Then he offered us mango smoothies and gave them to us at no cost. To meet an owner that is so engaged, personable and really cares about their customers is so rare. It was so nice to find at this restaurant.
I'm not super familiar with Indian food, so I was very happy that they gave a lunch special that lets you try several different dishes. It comes with rice and naan, and you can get unlimited refills (which I didn't need, it was plenty of food). It was a fun way to taste several dishes! The chicken curry was really tender and perfectly spiced. I'll definitely go back!
Food was amazing!! Appetizer platter was done well! Pretty much anything fried is good but sometimes it's not always done well. This was done well. Cauliflower was tender and juicy, Samosa had great flavor Everything had a nice crispy crust. Pretty much had pictures of everything so you can see how delicious it was. What really stood out about the food in general was how fresh everything tasted and how the spices were perfectly balanced. The garlic chili naan is the perfect example of this- a hint of spice with the right amount of garlic. Everything was phenomenal. The Dal Makhani was so so amazing- rich, comforting and the seasoning.... Oh the seasoning- I ate it over rice- but could see doing this with some fresh bread- comfort food at its finest. Service was friendly and efficient. Definitely on the list to return to try some other dishes!

I couldn't give this restaurant anything less than five stars. When I say I had flavors literally dancing on my tongue, I mean it! Every single dish we tasted was phenomenal perfectly cooked, it was authentic Indian flavors, and it was beautifully presented. There is honestly not one thing I could or would change about my experience. Actually, there is one thing that I would change how the garlic naan is presented on the menu it does show garlic/ chili naan and it seems like it's one item, but in reality it's two different options Just listed on the same line. So we ended up with two orders of naan bread but they both were delicious so it was okay. While the restaurant is located in a shopping plaza, the interior is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully decorated. The service was equally impressive; the staff was attentive, prompt, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. The entire time I was dining, I kept thinking about all the friends and family I want to bring back so they can experience this culinary gem for themselves. I can't wait to go back. read more

Wonderful! The food is amazing IMO. My fiancé is a tandoori chickn connoisseur so he says 'he's had better' but I'm a vegetarian so idk LoL! But the curry and mango margarita were amazing! The service is attentive, it's a small & cute little restaurant but worth a try for sure!! Especially if you love Indian food ;) read more

Enjoyed my visit here! Smaller restaurant, good for more intimate meals. Wasn't too busy either. Located on a strip with other stores, so there is plenty of parking around. They have a small bar area and a few outdoor seating options. Plenty of options for non-meat eaters. Ran into a small issue with one of our orders but the staff quickly fixed it. They are very attentive and stay always within reach for water refills or any other needs during your meal. I tried the Chef's Signature Dal Makhani which was pretty good. I do wish it had a little more spice to it as well as additional protein to add more texture to the meal. Also, got some garlic naan for the table which can be shared with two people. read more

I got the lamb chops - burrah chop adraki. This was some lamb that was very well prepared. The char was delicious, the lamb was tender and juicy, and came off the bone easily in my mouth. It was the comfort food I was seeking and more. If I lived in the area, I would come back here or more. I was on a business trip. read more

We made a reservation for dinner and we were glad we did. The place was pretty packed! I am glad the food did not disappoint. For appetizers, we had the Black salt assorted sampler. Everything on the sampler was really good. For our entrees, we had the cheese infused kofta, Dal Makhani and Chicken Tikka masala. All the entrees were very rich and flavorful ! The food was representative of North Indian cooking. For the breads, we tried the Rosemary Naan and the Black salt signature Katlama Naan. Both were cooked very well! For dessert, we had the Zafrani Kheer - it was delicious! We even tried the chocolate jamun mousse but preferred the Kheer. All the food was good. Looking forward to trying out more of their menu! read more

My new favorite Indian cuisine! So delicious and love the modern atmosphere. We enjoyed the Indian Cosmo and Dirty Martini. The chili garlic naan and the Kashmiri naan are amazing! We tried the sea bass special and chicken tikka with basmati rice. We got the Elachi Mascarpone Gulab Jamun for dessert and it was the perfect ending to a special meal. Took a risk with the dal. The most amazing dal makhani I have had in Delhi makes the rest of the world dissapoint normally. But we shall see! Hedged my bet with a Chicken Tikka appetizer and both butter naan and their local featured Black Salt naan. won't go away hungry. The traditional items were very solid. The local featured items did not move my needle, but left full and happy. Will be back. read more

I shared a delicious meal with a friend at this lovely restaurant located in a strip of Chesterfield eateries (a Thai place, Imo's, Jimmy John's, and a sushi steak deal). We shared a veggie entree called Butter Paneer that was sooo good. I will want to enjoy it again. Also shared Lahori Murgh, a chicken dish with a bit of a kick. I'd never seen either one before at other Indian restaurants. We had a very nice server. The ambience is pleasant. Black Salt is a very pleasant place that serves exemplary fare. read more
2nd time here, was equally pleased. Service was fantastically attentive. Manager checked on us as well. They were very concerned with our satisfaction. True sign of good management. It was fully booked after 6. Need reservations but we were ably to get an early booking (5pm) in same day. The portions are generous. We had two entrees and one app and had plenty of leftovers. We tried the Biryani - Chef Signature. Rice was perfectly cooked and had plenty of protein in it. Nice and flavorful. Also had the chicken tika masala once again, and still great! For an app, we had Samosa Chaat. EXCELLENT! What an explosion of flavors. May be my favorite thing on menu. Black Salt is a little gem hidden in a strip mall. The small restaurant is simple and elegantly decorated. Fresh, bright and cozy. Excited to hear they'll be opening a 2nd spot! read more

Black Salt is a small, quaint place to have a dinner date or catch up with a small party. It's always great to see other Indians who choose to eat there which means the quality and uniqueness to the region is probably close! We had the black salt seasoned naan and rosemary/butter naan. Both were unique and absolutely delicious. The buttered naan was very tomato forward with a wonderful sweetness. The tiki masala was also further unique and a bit more bold in flavor. We both got medium spice and it was not too much at all. Waitress and support staff were amazing. I recommend bringing cash for tips as it helps small business not have to pay on the CC processing fees. read more

Black Salt is my new favorite Indian restaurant! Black Salt is located in Chesterfield and although it's a new restaurant, it already has a HUGE fan base for a good reason. It's seriously incredible! Every single dish is literally plate-licking good - so be sure to get their bread basket to sop up all the sauces! The vibe of the entire place is upscale but still very welcoming. They have an extensive menu but we took the server's recommendation and they were more than spot on. My favorite dishes were: Samosa Chaat Palak Chaat with Mango Black Miso Chicken Tikka Chicken Chettinad Chicken Tikka Masala Reservations are recommended as this place gets packed quickly. We got the Luncheon Thali. 7 small dishes plus naan, salad and soft drink. Service was great, staff is kind. You can even get free refills on the small dishes. Wonderful flavors. I can't wait till my next visit. read more

I was supposed to meet up with a few friends at Black Salt last weekend but I couldn't make it. My friend was very pleased with the service and the food here. So I went tonight with my partner for our midweek date night. We received a notification that our table was ready 5 minutes before our reservation time which was very neat. I was impressed with how simple but elegant the restaurant. However, they have a pretty small space with not so many tables, reservation ahead of time is a must. We started with mango lassi and masala chai. I loved the mango lassi a lot- the sweetness is perfect for my liking. Masala chai was very creamy and balanced in spices. For entrée,we ordered our go to dishes - butter chicken with garlic naan and biriyani lamb. We also got tandoori murgh and mango palak chaat which were suggested by my server. The food came out pretty quick. We loved all the dishes here - very rich in flavor, generous portion and well presentation. We liked Mango palak chaat a lot- such a well balancing flavor appetizer. I personally think their garlic naan is the best garlic naan I ever had - the bread was super soft and buttery. I ordered roti for my son but I didn't like it as much as garlic naan. Overall, Black Salt offered a very delightful dining experience. Highly recommend, and we will definitely go back pretty often. read more

I really like the feel of this restaurant. It is located around a ton of other restaurants, but it really stuck out to me because of the aesthetic. I got the butter chicken and also the samosas. I really enjoyed the Samosa. It has such great flavor and I wish the order came with More. For some reason, I did not really enjoy the flavor of the butter chicken. I believe this could've just been me. The people in my party enjoyed their meals. I will be back here to try out some other options because they have so many options, which is another thing that I like. The service was also great And it didn't take too long to get our food. read more
I was greeted by a friendly staff and owner who throughout my dining experience checked in to ensure an excellent experience was being provided. Black Salt stands out in providing a more modern environment and ambiance, and a uniquely tailored menu, including Ghost Pepper Tikka Chicken for the spicy food lover, as well as fusion dishes like Black Miso Chicken Tikka, and even the more traditional Dal Makhani and Roti. Came by for lunch and the food lived up to the hype! Inside was smaller than expected but decor is modern and clean, with plenty of natural light. I got the lunch thali combo (lamb) which was quite a variety of foods - 3 meat dishes, 2 vegetarian dishes, 1 yogurt dip, 1 dessert, and a small salad. There were 3 types of starch- rice, buttered naan, and chickpea crispy flatbread (papadum). They also offered customization for spice level! Everything was delicious, especially enjoyed the lamb vindaloo and tandoori chicken! Service was warm and attentive. Cozy Indian fare with a modern twist. Black Salt is a newcomer on the scene and did not disappoint. Environment/Service: The unassuming location in a strip mall was simple yet well decorated. As it is a small restaurant, we recommend arriving with a reservation, especially during peak hours. Even with a reservation we ended up waiting about 10 minutes. Service was friendly and a little slow, but understandable for how busy they were with a full house. The owner brought out a Rasmalai dessert with candle and drum as we were celebrating a birthday. Food: We started with the Teen Mirch Paneer Tikka which did not disappoint. The paneer was marinated nicely and charred well. It came with a spicy mint chutney and a tamarind based chutney. For our main dish we shared the Zafrani Lamb Chops which came with 3 pieces. The gravy was rich and creamy with nice flavor. We had hoped that it would be a little bit spicier and the lamb more tender. To drink, we had the fresh lime soda (pictured) which was absolutely refreshing and delicious. They boast a small bar menu which we will have to try next time. The birthday dessert was pillowy and hit the perfect pistachio notes. Rating: 4/5. The price point is on the higher side but if they can continue to improve the quality of the food this place is on its way to becoming a staple Indian restaurant in the area. read more
A relatively new upscale Indian cuisine restaurant, we saw good reviews and decided to try a lunch date here. The inside does have a fine dining atmosphere, the GM and hostess seated us at a booth & gave us our menus. We both ordered their Lunch Thali specials - one with goat and one with lamb. Each came with an appetizer, dessert, salad, salty pickled veggies, veg curries, yogurt and soup and another curry. My favorites were the chicken 65 appetizer and their sweet dry bread nutty dessert (I tried asking for the name and could not understand and it wasn't on their menu, sorry). The mango lassi was good and their specialty fresh lime soda was interesting but personally, I wouldn't order again as it smelled like sewer to me that day. Note: Spicy level only applies to your specified item on Thali (mild on goat and lamb for us), the other curry bowls are still normal spicy! read more
