I was in luck and found a spot on the far side and just walked up a little hill in the lot and there was a back entrance! Nice! I was greeted with a smile and led to a table near the front window, lots of tables occupied during lunch on a Friday. Cozy space with lots of bright light. I decided to go with Drunken Noodle with chicken as I always do if they offer it, I asked if I could add tomato and she indicated yes. She asked me what spice level I wanted and I indicated I usually go with 3 and she recommended 2 and I took her advice. The order came out pretty quick and I was glad I went with her recommended spice level of 2 as I think 3 would have been too much for me. The dish was flavorful and had the added tomatoes. Note if you order and addition the charge for me was 0.75 extra. I took my extra home to enjoy again. Small, bright space, friendly staff, good food. And you can enter from the back! Popped in for dinner on Christmas Eve. Veggie spring rolls were served hot with that crispy outer shell and soft filling. My green curry with tofu was unlike any other Thai green curry I've had. The broth was much thinner and appeared more oily. That being said, it had GREAT flavor. I guess it was just light on the coconut milk? It was more translucent than I'm used to. Absolute fire. Simple thai dishes in a no frills spot. Fast, casual, the perfect little neighborhood nook for a quiet date night. The menu is simple as to not overwhelm the spicy basil chicken is amazing. A bit of sweet with a lot of savory. I got spice level 5(their highest) and it really wasn't too hot. It did offer a nice tingle on the lips but no real heat on the tongue. I wanna sweat! Lol Workers were super polite, attentive, and efficient. It seems one of the chefs runs the food. Maybe I chose the wrong dish, but at least the shrimp pad thai was bad. I would generally say things aren't good, but here bad is very much warranted. The shrimp come tail on, which is fine, but one of them had sand in it, I'm not sure from what, but they definitely were not thoroughly cleaned. The flavor was flat and yet the Pad Thai was overly saucy. I saw people saying this restaurant it is authentic, speaking highly of the food, but they must be comparing it to other Thai-American spots because I just don't see it at least from the Pad Thai. Pad Thai should ideally have subtle cooked down flavors of tamarind and fish sauce, some complex sweetness from palm sugar, and subtle dried shrimp flavor as well. But here the flavor just was bland and uninteresting. Some redeeming qualities are that they had some dried shrimp on top, which is very rare in the US even in larger cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Seattle; the rice noodles themselves were cooked well (not over or undercooked); the bean sprouts looked fresh and clean; and the peanuts, chili powder, and lime coming separately was appreciated. I am do not believe in basing ratings on service and generally don't comment on service, but it wasn't great. Was told to sit wherever and then had to go up to place my order and it seemed like I was forgotten. Then asked for some chopsticks when my food came and the server said ok, then immediately went to the kitchen and then completely forgot and never ended up giving me any chopsticks. We ordered Drunken Noodles and Pad See Ew, and both had an extremely authentic flavor, like Thai food should taste like. However, the dishes were 90% noodles. They were really lacking in vegetables and protein! If they doubled the portion sizes and added more protein/veggies-- this place would be a 5 star experience! This was our first time going to this place. The Services were slow. I think our server was new. It took her 15 minutes to bring us our water after we sit down. The other server did help her out afterwards by removing our empty plates etc. The food was different to me. We got the Nua sawaan,drunken noodle, and green curry entree. The food was okay to me. I was kind of disappointed since I really thought this place would be authentic. So I gave this place the benefit of a doubt since I am not sure if this was just an off day. The drunken noodle is not as flavorful as other Thai place I had. It has some spice and lots of star anise but missing other essential flavors that I like. Came back and everything is still amazing. Chiang Mai never misses!!! Also guys GET THE NUA SAWAAN!! It's one of the appetizers / shareable small plates - "marinated flash fried coriander beef strips, sea salt, palm sugar"). It was the best beef I've ever tasted in my life. Crispy, but not burnt--perfectly flavorful, amazing texture, comes with an incredible tangy but slightly sweet sauce. Just wow. Also I got the Khao soi again---also still delicious. This is a quaint little spot in Webster Groves (a cool street with so many great restaurants, boutiques, and coffee shops). We ordered the Laarb Koi, Nam Ngiaw, and the Pork Red Curry and everything was very delicious! Our favorite dish was definitely the Nam Ngiaw which is a regional northern Thai dish. The broth was super flavorful and it was the perfect balance of spicy and savory. I think the service and hospitality could have been better. Chiang Mai is my favorite Thai restaurant in St Louis after Tei Too was closed out. I've been coming here since they first opened in 2020, and I absolutely love every single dish here. The Gra Dook Moon and its sauce are delicious, but it's kinda too big for 2 people on top of other dishes, so I tended to skip it unless I dine in with a big group. The only item that I don't think I enjoy much is the chicken noodle soup. **Be careful with the spicy level here. I'd say level 3 of spicy here is level 5 elsewhere. It's always a nightmare to find a parking and get a table at nighttime on the weekends, so I preferred to come here for lunch. It's awesome that they had a new menu with images of their dishes which really helped improving the customer's dining experience. Service today was great. My experience with Chiang Mai has to do with an online order and delivery. I made an order through DoorDash on June 7, 2025 which was delivered correctly. I also received a second charge and delivery for twice the amount as the first order. The delivery was not discovered until the next day since I was not expecting it, so it ended up in the garbage. This was a sizeable amount (over $200) that I tried to dispute with DoorDash, but they will make a refund (no surprise!). It was obviously a fraudulent order since the items were the same as my real order but doubled. This could only have happened at two points of the process, at the restaurant or DoorDash. I am filing a dispute with my credit card and hoping for a refund. read more

We tried the most popular dishes - Sai Oua, Khao Soi and Larb Khua. The Sai Oua was an extremely flavorful juicy grilled pork sausage. It came with a side of rice. The Khao Soi broth was delicious. It came with crispy noodles and egg noodles in the broth.The crunchy noodles helped balance the texture of the dish. The Larb Khua was spicy sautéed minced pork. It came with a side of rice as well. It was very good. All the dishes were very flavorful. The service was prompt. The place can get crowded but they have a pretty quick turnaround. The Gai Todd was a dish of crispy wings and tasted very good but probably should not have been $11 in my opinion. The Som Tum is a spicy papaya salad that was also $11 and very refreshing. My main dish was the Larb Khua and also very delicious, 16 bucks. We did get charged 75 cents a person for a water which I did not really appreciate and I was charged an additional 50 cents for using a credit card so keep that in mind.
