Honestly, if I was rating the food only it would have been a solid 4, maybe a 5 but the disinterested staff and dark atmosphere pulled it down to the 3. Located near the southern end of downtown Kirkwood, KoKuu makes good use of its space with ample seating and a very modern design. To start, we ordered Hana Lychee sake and a Kokuu Chicken Bun (both highly recommended, especially the bun's mix of sweet, savory and slightly spicy flavors working together). For main entrees, my wife tried the Creamy Chicken ramen and I went with my go-to, Black Garlic Oil with pork. The pork marinated nicely in the garlic flavor of the broth, and they captured my preferred noodle texture (thin and soft without becoming mushy). Very good all around. I only ended up ordering 3 rolls and a few 1-piece sushis because I was so stuffed! You do have to wait awhile after ordering sushi for them to prepare the rolls, so order earlier if you know you want to try other rolls. There's a 2-hour limit after you're seated. A couple things to note: they played no music so it was very quiet inside, they're fairly heavy handed with wasabi, and it's quite expensive.
