Not many Filipino restaurants in STL, but Kain Tayo easily takes first place for me. The environment is warm and welcoming, and the employees alone deserve 5 stars, they're always so sweet every time I visit. The lechon kawali is my favorite! It's super crispy and full of flavor. Definitely a must-try along with the lumpia, if you're in St. Louis!

The food here was really delicious! I have been wanting to come in forever and finally made it a point to grab lunch after a meeting down the street. You will be seated and there is a server, so plan to take a breather and enjoy yourself. I was really on the mood for some chicken, and the chicken adobo came highly recommended from conversations that I've had. There are bone in chicken thighs that are so juicy and tender, they basically fall off the bone. It came with a side of rice that accompanied the dish nicely. I also got an order of lumpia which are Filipino style egg rolls that were perfectly crunchy and delicious. The spot itself is cute and eye catching, it's quaint and feels welcoming. I'd love to return and try other items!

Great food and ambiance in downtown stl- best Filipino food in the city. Friendly service and reasonable prices. Love the ube ice cream and the bake shop in the back too.

Went to a street food event, but it was a little disaster. What I heard from customers before I came was that they gave them small portions until someone complained, and I was lucky that I got big portions. The price is still too expensive, but I think it's worth it. Nothing new in the ambience; it looks a little different but still the same.

My daughter and I decided on an impromptu dinner outing on a Thursday evening and wanted to try a new place. Kain Tayo was on both of our places to try list. We were greeted and seated right away. It's a very nice restaurant. Our waitress was very helpful in suggesting foods for us to try. We ordered the pork lumpia and the vegetable lumpia. My daughter really liked the pork lumpia paired with the sweet chili sauce. I enjoyed the vegetable one as well, however, they were a bit oily. The vinegar sauce that comes with it is a great accompaniment. For drinks we had the mango juice and the calamansi juice. For entrées, I had the Chicken Adobo. It was my favorite. The chicken was very tender and had great flavor. My daughter had the Bistek Tagalog. She enjoyed the flavors but felt like she would have enjoyed the dish better if the beef was tender. We were pretty full at the end of our meal but my daughter didn't want to pass on trying the Halo-Halo for dessert so we ordered it to go. The ice cream on top was our absolute favorite and if we can just order that, we would love that even more. As we were leaving another staff member asked if it was our first time and inquired about our experience. We appreciate how everyone was friendly and checked on us. We can't wait to try new things in the future.

I got the chicken adobo and my friend got sisig (?). Portion was decent, I'm not quite sure how pricing would be but I think it's comparable to other places. Flavour was good, I did find it a bit saltier though. Service is great, staff is really friendly. My friend speaks the same dialect so they were conversing well. There's plenty of space and lots of seating. I would definitely try other dishes as well.

I love the interior design of the place. It reminds me of the fancy venues you go to in the Philippines. Bright, neutral, and open. I ordered crispy pata, nilaga, lumpia, and gulaman. I also ordered mango + ube cakes on the side to take home for dessert and pandesal bread for my afternoon merianda (snack). I love how flavorful the sauce is accompanied to the crispy pata. The savory broth followed by the softened meat. The cakes, breads, and gulaman aren't overly sweet, which I like. As someone who lived in the Philippines for a while, I do admit that the prices are expensive, but different country has different prices unfortunately. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Despite ordering a drink on the side, we were offered service water without having to ask. I found out they spoke Ilonggo, which makes the interaction warmer and welcoming. Thank you manong + manang for the service. Halong ka gid always.

Celebrated my son's 16th birthday. I've been here before and this is his first time. He loves everything especially the halo-halo. Too bad they didn't have the ube flan that he was really excited to try. Taste is consistent and always fresh! Staff are really personable and nice. Beautiful chill ambiance.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Saint louis!! The service and ambiance is always so homey feels and food is amazing. This picture definitely doesn't do it justice as I was hungry and dug in forgetting a picture but sooo yummy! I skipped it this time but halo-halo is a great sweet treat to end the night too!

Very aesthetic interior and friendly staff! Their homemade ice cream is DELICIOUS -- would highly recommend! They also let us pick two flavors (one scoop mango and one scoop ube). They were my favorites. As far as dinner entrees themselves, my fiance got the fried tilapia (which he really enjoyed!). The colorful little vegetable side salad that came with his tilapia was actually super addicting; great flavor. I kept stealing it from his plate. I got the sisig (fried chicken and fried pork combo) which came with lumpia and rice. The lumpia and the sauce were tasty; but I wasn't a fan of the sisig. The texture wasn't quite crispy and felt a bit oily to me. However the ice cream was a standout! Overall I would go back since the other items were great.

My friend just stood in line to order for 15 mins and the staff completely ignored her. At one point they addressed the man behind her to seat them. I worry that this was race related as my friend was the only black person in line. The staff looked through her as if she was invisible. The treatment that she recurved was deplorable. She obviously left without ordering.

50 & Fabulous at Kain Tayo! November 4 * St. Louis MO Still can't get over this night -- the nilaga, crispy pata, sisig, lechon kawali, canton, lumpia... every bite was pure perfection! And those pandan + ube cakes... literally the BEST I've ever had! The team made me feel so loved -- every detail, every smile, every moment. Thank you @KainTayoSTL for making my 50th birthday unforgettable. Consistently delivered. Every time we come here, the food is hot and crispy. It may take a while for to be ready, but we have been calling in ahead and order and it has work every time. Our favorite spot to visit after city museum's workout! I wish the they bring back their filipino spaghetti!

The place was lovely with space to lounge around in the sofa. We started with some lumpiang Shanghai. While that didn't blow me away, the rest of our meal did. I had the pork adobo and my husband ordered the pancit. The serving is enough for 2 people but it was a great way to try different things and have some leftover for the next day. The owners are very approachable and could immediately recognize us as Filipinos when we were sitting and eating there. The restaurant reminds me of a "fancier" Filipino style like you see in big tourist spots in Boracay. I do admit, the wait is a bit long as we were waiting for almost 30 minutes for our food to arrive. However, I feel like the complaints about it from other reviews are ridiculous since this place isn't considered fast food, but cooked with love. I mean- when I was living in The Philippines, everyone has patience of a saint, especially when it comes to food so I do not see the wait time as an issue. It's not served immediately like karinderya style. I ordered the Filipino-style chicken BBQ and I'd like to say that it's so delicious and flavorful. However, it doesn't remind me of home. I do want to point out to definitely ask for tuyo kalamansi with chili for the dip if you're not a fan of vinegar. I was told it was homemade by the owner and it did not disappoint. The pork BBQ that my father ordered was a bit too hard for his liking, as Filipino meat tends to be on the softer side. The ube banana pudding is also yummy, however, it is way too sweet for our liking. I'd like to point out that Java rice is so good that I think that it isn't enough for a Filipino like me and I personally don't want to pay for another cup of Java rice. There were more sides than rice tbh. I was also a bit bummed that halo-halo isn't in the menu at all, With that being said, I feel like the food and desserts here are mostly catering the American palette, but it would be good for people who has never tried Filipino food.

I know it's hard to compare restaurant food to home-cooked meals, and I wasn't expecting to be wowed. "Mid" would've been fine, but unfortunately, this fell below that for us. We ordered the menudo, chicken adobo, bangus, and lechon. Both the menudo and chicken adobo were noticeably sweet and not in a subtle way. The bangus only came as half with the combo (I'm not sure if that's standard), which was a bit disappointing since I'm used to getting a whole bangus. The lechon had a slightly off taste possibly from the oil used. I ended up cutting it up and putting it in the air fryer, which helped a bit, especially with Mang Tomas. My kids were excited for the ube bread, but there was barely any ube. Thankfully, I had ube jam at home to add more. That said, I'm still glad this restaurant is here representing the Filipino community. It's wonderful that they host gatherings and bring people together. I do think there's room for improvement, especially when it comes to showcasing Filipino food well for those who may be trying it for the first time.
