The food itself was fantastic. Delicious soup dumplings, and really good spinach dumplings as well. We loved everything we ordered and were super happy with the food we had. There were many options between all of the restaurants around and we were not disappointed.

The pork and chive dumplings are a standout, bursting with flavor and topped with a savory soy dipping sauce. While the menu is simple, the quality of the food more than makes up for it. The atmosphere is no-frills, but don't let that fool you--the dumplings are definitely the star here. Service is attentive, and the no-tips policy makes the experience more relaxed and enjoyable. The appetizer, a slow-cooked egg, is a standout. The onsen egg paired with corn cheese sauce, crispy Italian lard, and sourdough is aromatic and layered with flavors. Every bite has a perfect balance of textures. The confit salmon has a texture between raw and medium, tender and delicate without being dry. The dry-aged steak is juicy and flavorful, with rich fat and aroma that lingers beautifully. Overall, the six-course menu is well thought out, each dish showing the chef's attention to detail and care for flavors. The experience was very satisfying, the environment comfortable, and the service professional and welcoming.

And they don't accept tips, which is very wallet-friendly, haha. The appetizer, the sous-vide egg, was very unique. The combination of a soft-boiled egg, cheese and corn sauce, Italian pork lard crisps, and sour dough was an explosion of flavor--a rich and complex experience in both texture and taste. The confit salmon had a texture between raw and medium-rare, not dry at all, but not as raw as sashimi. The dry-aged steak was incredibly tender and juicy! Every bite was bursting with the aroma of the fat. The six courses cost a total of 115 pence, and the servers didn't neglect the guests despite the lack of a tipping policy.

It says a lot when the nicest place that I could find in the area was a Joey's. Anyway, I sat at the bar and had a calming beverage and ordered their fish tacos. The bartender was very welcoming. All the ingredients in the dish were good, but somehow the salad and the tacos did not taste that great... the ratios were all off, a bit too much gloop and really unharmonious. A shame, because they had everything to make this a good dish! But, it's a Joey's, so my expectations are low. The place was an oasis of calm compared to the cacophony of Yonge & Dundas Square outside, so they're still getting 4 stars out of me!

This location is popular for its upbeat atmosphere and convenient downtown setting; which makes it perfect for meeting friends, grabbing a meal before a show, or relaxing after shopping at the Eaton Centre. We visited here late at night during the weekdays, but even though it wasn't busy, we had to wait longer than expected to be seated. The staff were friendly and apologetic about this. We ordered our drinks and shareable from the Happy Hour and enjoyed them.

Some reviewers complained about the loudness, but, compared to many other downtown locations, Landwers was a medium level of noise, and we were able to converse. It was not excessively busy, but if you are set on eating here, then make a reservation. I finally tried the Sinia Kebab, and it was tremendously good! It was also huge, and I had to take half of it home with me. The focaccia bread is excellent, and serves as a sort of bowl for this deconstructed kebab. My husband had his usual Cobb Salad, which he thinks is particularly well done at Landwer's. Our other dining companion had schnitzel, which came with some angel hair pasta. He enjoyed it very much. Service is, as I said above, "relaxed". If you are planning to see a concert or show afterwards, then plan ample time to allow the relaxed service to unfold (a.k.a this is not fast food!!) We had a 6:00 reservation, and we were able to make our 7:30 concert time with about 10 minutes to spare. The University location is conveniently located near Thompson Hall, the subway, and Union Station (Via Rail and Go).

Usually when I visit on weekdays either around lunch hours of 1-3 or after work 5-8, there's only 1 person ahead of me. Basil Box has a special place in my heart. I've been visiting several of their locations since they first started out in Toronto. It's one of my go-to spots when I need something that feels like healthier fast food. Most of my orders turned out to be terrible combinations full of regret that were totally my fault. For one order, I asked them to cover my BYOB in Thai Chilis, not realizing how spicy it was, and spent the whole meal crying inside their store while their staff looked on. During my most recent visit, I was lucky and realized maybe Peanut Sauce is the key to the BYOB. I got their Tofu curry walk in daily special for ~$11. It was so good, I was really surprised. The portion was enough to stretch to a 2nd meal. Although weirdly the rice hardened so I ended up throwing those leftovers away...:( Their Thai iced tea is OK. I feel every other BBT spot makes it better. Theirs is a bit watery. I tried their new satay fries. It's just fries seasoned with some satay seasoning powder (if you add on an egg to your dish, know you're literally getting a sunny side up egg with that powder on top). I thought it was too salty, and had to drown it out with other food items. They have a partnership with Wong's ice cream so I definitely recommend trying those pints out. Lots of different seating, good if you're alone or with friends. It's also relatively quiet; you could probably get away with studying or working remotely here.
