I found this place with a groupon deal and became a regular customer. They are super flexible and accommodating which makes booking appointments at the last minute a breeze. In a convenient location and always offer have packages deals to save money on Brazilian waxes. Highly Recommended read more

Illa Spa - Location - Hair Removal Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

The signature massage with Mike (I believe) was amazing - five stars. He found trigger points perfectly and was able to smooth several of the knots on my back. The spa itself is smaller and worn in, but the table was comfortable. The staff were running a bit late, but considerate and still provided the full length of the massage. The one star deduction is for the quality of the building/experience, but the massage itself was amazing. I will definitely return. read more

I bought a Groupon deal for a couples massage. I arrived at 4pm for a 4:15 appointment. I informed them that my boyfriend was running a bit late in the traffic (torrential downpour- flood warning weather on my phone from Weather Channel). "Mandatory 15%" tip is thrown at you when you walk in... The first thing the receptionist(possibly the manager or owner) asked was if I wanted to upgrade our massages to a deep tissue for $15 each. I declined. They were running late. I basically told them they could start with me first. But, they said the couples room was not ready... I told the masseurs that they could start with me and just let my boyfriend come in when he arrives, so they brought me in, but they didn't start until he came in, which was 4:30. They said they would have to cut the massage time, and I told them that they shouldn't have cut my time since they were aware that I was ready. My boyfriend literally arrived in his wet military uniform... In any case, the massages were good, and I don't blame the masseurs for the receptionists mismanagement. I would only come here again for the discounted Groupon price as there are much cleaner, nicer places to get much better massages at the full price point. In terms of the waiting room, the lighting makes me nauseous... weird fluorescents. Floor is disgustingly dirty. read more

Terrible service. These people are very nasty. They treat you like animals,. I felt very sad. How can you treat your clients the way you did? Needless to say, the place is disgusting, dirty and smells terribly. read more

To be honest - We were a bit worried about coming here for a massage because the online reviews are not great (mostly due to payment issues) -- but the price of an hour massage was so good that we could not resist trying. Overall, we were pleased with the service - the check-in process was quick/friendly, facilities were clean and masseuses were very friendly. Was it the best massage ever? No. But it was certainly good and value was great. We've been back multiple times since. read more

Do not buy this Groupon!!! I bought this Groupon and when I booked my appointment online a few months ago, you would have to put your credit card down for the service you wanted to reserve your spot online and also type in your Groupon code in the booking form so they knew a voucher was being used, which I did. I saw that I was charged the full price of the massage on my bank statement but I was reassured that once the manager reviewed the invoice with the Groupon code, I would be credited back that amount. However I was never refunded and called again a few weeks later to let them know and was again reassured that the manager would look into this and call me back. Still no refund weeks later so I called back and the manager answered the phone this time. She was very hostile and told me that I booked it wrong and so that this was my fault and that's why I was charged. I explained to her the way the website prompted me to put in my credit card and enter the Groupon code in the booking form, and she said "fuck you!" and hung up on me. I am still completely taken aback by this interaction. She then proceeded to text me multiple messages saying that I was "abusing" the spa, which is completely uncalled for to use a clients cell phone number without permission to harass them. Based on previous reviews, it looks like the majority of clients experienced similar interactions so I do believe all the past negative reviews even if the owner tries to dispute it. Although the spa itself is not the nicest looking and the massage was average, I absolutely would not have written a negative review if I wasn't treated so horribly. I even tipped very well and was going to suggest that if I could come back for a massage that was equivalent to what was charged, but before I could even do so was met with this extreme hostility. But at this point I would rather lose $100 than go back to a place that can treat customers that way. I rarely ever write reviews but if this helps someone else to not get charged over $100 extra, or treated as poorly as I was that's all I could hope for. read more

No idea why there are so many bad reviews, some of which are from people who wanted to use their expired Groupons lol. Meanwhile, they accepted my Groupon the same day I bought it--got a 60 minutes massage from Sadia (the Illa signature massage) and she spent some extra time on me. It was amazing. I have a full time job and am full time grad school and suffer from tension and TMJ which I get treated with PT. Unfortunately I hadn't had time to go recently so I looked on Groupon and saw a $40 offer. Btw, they only accept Groupon ONE time. So the second time you go you can't use it. I walked out feeling amazing, my migraine went away, and she targeted the perfect spots on my back--tipped her :) just be a responsible adult and use your Groupon before it expire and you'll be fine. Highly recommend. read more

Worst spa experience of my life. I bought a Groupon to get a massage session but the owner would not honor it because I didn't book by phone (even though I called several times and their voicemail was full), so I made an appt online as described by the Groupon directions. I came in and asked about the Groupon and the therapist ignored it.. and once my massage started, the owner barged in (while I was undressed) to yell and say that I booked the wrong session and will have to pay full price. It was so unprofessional and rude.. and the opposite of a zen night for me. The owner has mental health issues. The therapist wasn't great anyway. The facility is small and dirty and cheap. Such a terrible experience and I normally brush things off.. but the owner literally told me I was stupid and to f*ck off. Who says that??! Should not be in business. read more

Very uncomfortable. Asked specifically not to be touched in specific regions ( butt and upper thigh) and was coerced into allowing the man to massage me there anyways. Run down and poorly kept, dust and broken ceilings the opposite of a calm and relaxing environment or experience. I usually do not leave reviews on Yelp. However, my experience with scheduling an appointment with Illa after purchasing a Groupon was horrendous and has left me feeling quite angry. Generally, I look for deals on Groupon for new places, and when I find a good place with great service, I am happy to become a returning customer. Clearly, that will not be the case here. I purchased a Groupon for a couples-massage deal to enjoy a date-night activity with my boyfriend. My boyfriend was proactive and was able to get us an appointment. Its been a stressful month for us and we were very much looking forward to our appointment. However, to our astonishment, our appointment was cancelled and all available time slots blacked out immediately. When we inquired about the sudden cancellation, this is the response we got (please see photos): Essentially, it left me with the impression that they discriminate against Groupon users. I will not be trying this place again as I was not left feeling welcome. read more

Worst place ever. They're racist and unprofessional . Never again.. the manager wouldn't let me reschedule my appointment. My mother died the day my appointment was booked. The worst customer service ever! We bought Swedish massage for couple on Groupon for 97$ which eventually was 167$ also we made a note that we wanted a Female therapist. when we came at the place the original price appeared to be only 55$ per person thus its 110$ not 167$ but its not about it, they told us that they don't have female therapist, of course we wanted refund.. They had a week to let us know that they didn't have any female therapist. Then we left and tried to contact Groupon but we couldn't not. After we called to Illa Spa to ask how we could contact Groupon and refund the money, but the receptionist didn't even listen to us, she has started screaming and turned off the phone.. When we tried to call second time she was just sending auto message: "Can't talk right now" and then started massaging with us and threatened us by failing report in police :D DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE TO NOT HAVE SAME EXPERIENCE LIKE WE DID read more

I had a great massage with Cida at Illa! I booked through ClassPass and arrived 15 minutes early, as they suggested. I was greeted right away and spent about 5-10 minutes filling out the one-page questionnaire. I was taken back to the room immediately upon completing. At my scheduled appointment time, Cida came in and asked a few questions based on the questionnaire (I indicated my neck and shoulders were tight and knotty). He explained he would use deep pressure at times but to let him know if I needed different pressure at any time. The massage from there was just what I needed. It was a combination of relaxing and therapeutic (he got the knots out!). The room was small but warm and clean. Overall the spa isn't the finest looking but its clear effort goes into making it warm and inviting. This isn't Red Door, but if you are looking for a good, well-priced massage, Illa will do the trick! I was offered a great package special for 3 pre-paid future massages. I will be back! read more

I didn't know what to expect but it was wonderful! The masseuses know what they are doing and it was so relaxing. I got the signatures safe and I feel so refreshed after. HIGHLY recommend! read more

When I walked in the decor and upkeep was a red flag. The massage also had red flags. The girl giving the massage stood on me at one point. I was not aware the deep tissue involved someone standing on your legs. The other big thing was she put pressure right on my spine. It felt like she scrapped her elbo down the bone of my spine. I felt that pain for a week afterwards. This massage was more detrimental than therapeutic. read more

This was the strangest massage of my life. I purchased through Groupon so can't complain about price for quality of service. My masseuse has long fingernails which was just odd and she also scratched me a few times. I was getting a full body Swedish massage but asked her to spend some time devoted to my tight calves and my lower back. The whole massage consisted of her hopping from my upper back to middle back to neck to arms to fingers to back to fingers and forearms to calves and feet to back to calves and around again! It was so strange. More like erratic rubbing than a massage. She also didn't touch anything between mid-back and my knees. Even though it's cheap, I'd save your money and go somewhere nicer with more experienced masseuses. read more

The setup leaves much to be desired, but my body continues to feel much better since my massage. I came here on a Thursday afternoon to use a Groupon for a 60-minute massage. My first impression was not great: tiny, mediocre reception, no one at the desk, boxes with trash on the floor, and a bikini razor left sitting on a chair. The receptionist soon returned from the bathroom and began to check me in. I filled out a form that was reminiscent of a doctor's office, and I indicated my trouble areas of shoulders, neck, and back. After a short wait I was brought back to the treatment room and given the instructions for how to get myself ready. The masseuse came in a short time later and got started. My disappointments at this stage were that the table and sheets weren't amazing, and the masseuse never introduced herself. This is someone who's going to be seeing and touching quite a lot of me, so a name would have been nice... After that the massage proceeded well. It was a lot to take sometimes, but that was the style I'd signed up for, and in the end it was really helpful. My body felt SO much better for the next several days, and beyond. I would have enjoyed this even more if it hadn't been for the music blasting up for the street at the end, and if I'd been offered water at the end. I finished the experience feeling like I got my money's worth--but only because I had the Groupon. Otherwise it would be a discount spa experience at full price. read more

Th worst Spa I have ever been to. My friend gave a Groupon voucher for my birthday. I was excited, I booked an appointment on my birthday. I waited for almost 30 mins but still the lady in the front desk didn't cared. I told her that I've other plans too. She said sorry can you please wait for 5-10 more mins? Are you crazy ?? But I still stayed. After 45 mins of waiting I finally got my massage. And guess what I thought that it was going to be an relaxing massage. But I was not really enjoying or neither relaxing. I can hear women gossiping, and the spa music going on and off. And I think the massage therapist was tired, she was exhausted and I think this massage should utilize a firm or lighter pressure to muscles to calm down your stiffness. But duh!! It was nothing like that. Never coming back to this place again. And wouldn't recommend. read more

BEWARE! I purchased a Groupon for a couples massage three days in advance. When I booked an appointment using Illa's online reservation form (as instructed on the voucher), I selected an option from a pull-down menu indicating that I would be using a Groupon, and provided the voucher number in a space provided for this purpose. After the massage, however, the receptionist informed me that the spa would not honor the Groupon, and would instead charge my credit card for the full, undiscounted price of the service (in addition to what I had already paid for the Groupon!). The rude and aggressively confrontational manner of the staff in refusing to resolve the issue completely undid any stress relief provided by the massage. read more

We got a groupon price for a 60min massage. Had to reschedule it since it has to be booked 1week in advance. They are not as good as we are expecting it to be. Worst spa experience EVER! Saw this place on Groupon and purchased a couples massage. After calling in, the rep said follow instructions on Groupon...that stated go to online website, schedule appointment then show voucher upon arrival. I did just this for my wife and I one week in advance (12/12/2020 for 12/19/2020). NOTE that I received an email AND text message confirmation. The day of 12/19, I called 5 minutes before 1pm appointment to confirm appointment. Upon check in I said, "hey, I made this on Groupon, do you want me to redeem the voucher?" The male masseuse said, "no, you can do it after service. Wife and I were led to a couples room. We stripped down to underwear as instructed and got under covers. When both male (same as before) and female "masseuse" came in, the female asked to confirm the $180 couples massage. I said "no, this was made through Groupon and confirmed through your websites scheduling system. Long story short, they said that we didn't appear in their system (even after reviewing my confirmed email/text/phone call) and were asked to leave because someone else was scheduled and confirmed for a 1pm appointment. I'm writing this review off my experience using a Groupon voucher, for which I paid $44 (somewhere in that range.) TL;DR good for Groupon price, wouldn't pay full. In terms of a $50 massage, this is exactly what I would expect. My room was private in the sense that there was a flimsy, collapsible plastic wall separating it from the room next door, which I assume converts into a 2 bed room for couples massages. For the price, this was fine aside from the fact that I could hear everything in the room next to me. I could also hear every time a customer walked in because the rooms are right by the front door and they aren't soundproofed. My masseuse was good- not bad, but not particularly great, but she listened to what I wanted. I would visit again if the price was as low, but the groupon is only 1 per customer, and I don't think I would pay full price. If you come in here expecting Burke Williams treatment, you're going to be disappointed, but you get what you pay for. read more

I first booked a 60 min. massage through a groupon deal. My masseuse was Sida, and he was VERY good! I have knots in my back from stress that are often painful when kneaded out. He talked me through it and was gentle for most of the massage, but let me know when he needed to be firm on me to remove the knots. I appreciated his attention to detail. All in all, I enjoyed my first experience fully. Afterward, because I wasn't paying attention (probably so RELAXED from my massage experience), when I went to check out at the front desk, I was charged for the massage. I then also added my tip. Because I hadn't realized my error, I appreciated a call from ILLA that same week to let me know there had been an error and I had been unnecessarily charge for my massage as I had already paid for my groupon. They let me know that I could come in for a free massage. GREAT! I booked it in advance and just got my massage this past Friday, again with Sida. He's amazing, btw. Can't say it enough. Here's a tip: If you come here before 6:30 pm on a weekday, know that there is minimal to no street parking available. It's an issue. If you come after 6:30 pm, parking is a bit better, but I'd suggest walking or taking an Uber or cab. That's your best bet. read more

To start, the therapist texted me to change my appointment from 7:15pm to 6:50pm...... cool no problem. Hops in car and we're on the way. Gets text at 6:35pm saying "we are running late, lets change the change appointment back to 7:15pm. Now we're in the area killing time. Wat thru their door at 7:12pm, fills out paper work and then put in room. So now it's 7:15pm and we're waiting for the therapist to walk in. 7:23pm they walk in and by 7:25pm they've started the massage. (Mind you it's suppose to be 60 min massage) 8:13pm..... "your massage is done, you can put your clothes on.......**exits room** We get dressed and walk out to the receptionist to finish claiming the voucher we had. I inquired about the length of massage and they confirmed it was a 60min massage. Now they ask about a tip! Umm excuse me, I'm not tipping. Ur therapist we're late and did not massage for 60mins......receptionist switches out with manager I guess. This little woman is persistent to say cash or credit. I dnt think u heard me while I was talking to the receptionist, IM NOT TIPPING! She goes on to explain the therapist work for 55 mins and give u 5mins to get dressed. Ummm ok Thts cool and dandy but that is not how the massage went down. They basically rubbed me down for 45 mins and dipped. Where is the rest of my 10-15 mins? Y'all can do the math too, but we walked out as she said dnt come back. Look Thts fine, I wouldnt go back since y'all wanna steal my time anyway. Plus the room we were in could use some updating, seriously. Looking at the table/bed the first thing that comes to mind is if these linens had been washed! I'm not judging Illa Spa on the aesthetic, just because a place may look like a dump doesn't necessarily mean they have terrible services. Ah, but not so fast. The service is just as dumpy as the interior. I've had a few massages there before (all I would say 7.5/10, good not great, but fine) BUT my most recent visit for an eyebrow threading is the reason I will never step foot back near Illa Spa. Let's just start chronologically on this one: I scheduled my eyebrow threading appointment for 11am a few weeks in advance. The day before my appointment I get a text saying "YOU BOOKED 11 AM BUT THERAPIST START WORK AT 1PM. pLEASE LETUS KNOW -Illa Spa via Mytime" (That is verbatim how it was spelled and written out, FYI.) Then, without me confirming or responding yet, got a second text saying my appointment was moved to 1:15pm. Ok, that's fine, much later than I intended but I'll make it work. The day of, the eyebrow threading therapist was a half hour late. I almost left but just really wanted to get this over with. There was a woman with a 1pm appointment before me, so I wasn't seen until 1:45ish. The eyebrow threading designated area is in the waiting room. Extremely uncomfortable with people walking in and around. The therapist used a DIRTY eyebrow brush on my eyebrows and basically yelled at me the whole time, telling me how I wanted my eyebrows. The service was rushed and PAINFUL! I have had waxes and eyebrow threadings in my life before, but this woman ripped my eyelids apart. I was bleeding and swollen when I looked in the mirror. How does someone make you bleed with thread? Because she was inconsiderate and rushing around like a mad woman and was ripping "threading" my skin instead of the hair. It looked like a cat scratched me over and over. I'm not someone who cries, but my eyes were watering and crying because of how painful this was. When I was checking out, the therapist told me to come back in 3 months and buy a package. What. LOL. no. The therapist ran off to her next appointment that was waiting, so a front desk girl checked me out. She also was rude and mentioned me not getting the package. LMAOOOOO. Girl, bye. It's been 4 days and I still have SCABS on my face, and it stings when I wash my face at night. I am actually concerned about getting an infection from the dirty eye brown brush she used on my face. Terrible "spa." I made a reservation based on the Lyle hotel claiming it as their spa. Walked in a hot today to an even hotter office space that was dirty and dingy. I asked for water and was given a baby cup. I started feeling lightheaded and told the owners I would have to leave because the stifling heat was making me feel sick. When I raised it they were extremely rude and responded that it was 75 degrees inside so I should have no reason to complain and would not be getting a refund. Not as bad as some reviews cut this place out to be. My significant other and I needed something relaxing after a long week. The spa was able to get us in on short notice which was great! My upper back has been killing me and my girlfriend and I have been dying for massages. We don't have SOs to relieve our tense muscles so the masseuse will have to do for the time being. We didn't want to break our backs even more by paying outrageous prices so handy dandy Groupon came through. Illa was our lucky winner with a 60 minute couple Swedish massage for the price of one. I imagined the place to be larger than it actually was. There's a small waiting area and I think about 3-4 rooms. There's also a small restroom in the back. Once we were taken back, we were instructed to undress all but our under garments, all but the underwear and then the masseuse left us to do so. The room is dimmed with a tint a red that was unpalatable to my liking. It was a couples massage so it's there to set the mood. Do not ever book with this spa, especially with a groupon. I have been trying to redeem my Groupon for about 5 months with this spa, every time I have booked my appointment was cancelled. Two hours later and I call again, she rudely yelled at me on the phone telling me to book it myself on the computer, her tone was very condescending and rude.
