[[HIGHLIGHT]]Management (I dealt with Hanna for at least part of this encounter) is incompetent at best and fraudulent at worst.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The initial massage was good, but I was seen 90 minutes late. I was promised a free service, and now that I've tried to redeem the voucher that was provided in compensation for the delay, which I had to ask for a couple of times, Illa is trying to claim that the voucher is for 20% off (it doesn't say that on the voucher), and that it's a general voucher sent to all customers. Stay away if you wish to avoid hassle. Sure, other places may cost more, but is your time and effort really worth a service that ultimately causes stress?

I never post negative reviews, but this situation warrants one. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I purchased a Groupon for massages at Illa spa, took time off of work to go (a rarity!), and when I arrived, I was told the owner refused to accept the Groupon![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Instead, I was told that "since I was already there, they could offer me a discounted service." Kind of felt like that was their shady business model. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I contacted Groupon support, which will be issuing a refund, but this isn't a way to treat customers.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] With dozens of other options, don't waste your hard earned money supporting a shady business owner.

Make sure to come early because you have a lot paperwork to fill out, which make sure to mark the spots where you don't want them to touch you. I wish they had options where you can choose female or male masseuse. Also, the option if you want more relaxing to them digging into the knots. I recommend checking out Groupon for cheaper prices.

READ THE REVIEWS! AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! I purchased 2 groupons for Illa Spa. I paid $46.40 for each groupon to be used for a 60-minute signature massage ($105). Time flew and both of the groupons expired. I chatted with groupon customer service and asked what my options were and was told that the $92.80 I paid ($46.40 x 2) could be used towards the same treatment. (screen print below) I made an appointment and received the massage and then went to pay. I told the therapist I had two expired groupons and that the amount paid of $92.80 would be used towards the purchase and I'd pay the difference (as instructed to do so by groupon customer service, which I showed him). He asked if I told the manager about the groupons when I made the appointment. I did not. He called the manager, Hanna, to make sure it was ok and she went from 0 to 100 and started yelling. (After reading the other reviews, this now doesn't surprise me at all) and told me I needed to let them know I was paying with groupon credits before I booked the massage. She told me that I could not use the credit yesterday for that massage but I could use it the next time I go there because they have to put it in their system differently because I booked the appointment "the wrong way." Umm... what?!? I asked her, since I already received the massage, can't they just "put it in their system" however it was needed and I would pay the $105 and put this $92.80 credit towards it and pay the difference? And why on Earth wouldn't she allow me to take the credit yesterday but they would allow me to take it in the future? Hanna then told me (nice and loudly) that I needed to pay for yesterday's massage in full with cash or credit card and could not use the groupon amount that day and that they have cameras on site and if I don't pay in full with cash or credit card she would call the police. I saved her the hassle of calling the police and I called the DC Police non-emergency number myself and reported the incident and gave them a heads up about exactly what was happening. I then was able to "surprise surprise" somewhat resolve the issue with a level-headed woman working at the front desk named Tresa, who was in one of the back rooms earlier. She explained that they book groupon clients differently and that I did indeed book the appointment incorrectly. Even though their instructions on the "right way of booking an appointment" are nowhere to be found. Got it. Makes perfect sense, right? I asked Tresa if she could edit the booking to however it needed to be input to reflect the $105 and then use the $92.80 credit. Nope. She said she couldn't. She explained to me that when clients use these expired groupon amounts that the establishment doesn't actually get any money. They only get money when the groupon is used before the expiration date. Whether this is true or not, I don't know. And frankly, from a customer point of view, THAT should not be my problem. But according to Illa Spa, this is now apparently not a groupon problem, this is not an Illa Spa problem, but this is passed onto the customer and becomes a problem for the customer to figure out? Very much, NO. In essence, Illa Spa makes you pay in full (and refuses to accept your credit) but then accepts the credit the next time you book a treatment on a future visit (as if THAT is ever going to happen again in this lifetime), so they can net a similar profit amount, as if you would have redeemed the groupon before it expired in the first place. Clever workaround? Fraud? Horrible way of doing business? Shady lady realness. Call it what you will. The choice is yours. So my suggestion, which ended up being our "resolution," was for Tresa to agree to write me a letter to provide to groupon that Illa Spa agreed to allow groupon to refund me for the $92.80 because they refused to redeem my groupon credit. And I ended up paying full price and I will hopefully get my $92.80 credited back by groupon. This goes beyond absurd. This goes beyond crazy. This was worse than an SNL parody on horrible customer service. It's truly unbelievable and sounds exaggerated until you experience it for yourself. So imagine going through all this literally minutes after receiving a massage. Do you think I felt better after getting my massage? Thanks to Hanna, and the staff at Illa Spa, and the way they run their business, I left feeling stressed, frustrated, annoyed, and furious and ended up with a migraine headache. Thanks so much. And I paid full price for that. Nice job, Hanna. Another sucker walked into your trap! Choose a charity and give them $105 instead of paying for anything at Illa Spa. You'll feel better than going here and you will have helped someone else in need in the process.

    The text from Illa spa.

The worst spa experience! I was treated like a piece of meat. I hated the massage (it felt like the person watched 2 tutorials and just went for it) and asked to stop like 20 min in. The masseuse refused and asked to "teach him how to make me happy". I felt bad so let him go on... After the session I confirmed with the receptionist that the Groupon went through and no additional payment required. The next day I got a text that the place will report me to police for fraud and asked to pay full price ($110) in addition to the Groupon. Got 15 calls during work hours and multiple texts with threatening and harassment. All of them were saying that I owe them money and I'm not allowed to use Groupon. See screenshots.

WILDEST "CUSTOMER SERVICE" EVER! Earlier today (Wednesday) I bought a Groupon and called to schedule a massage for Friday as part of celebrating my birthday. I called a little after 2pm and booked for Friday at 2:30pm. The person on the phone was rude, but like, whatever. At 2:35pm I get a text asking if I'm close by. I respond that I'm booked for Friday. At 2:39pm I get a call from a number I don't recognize. I answer, and it's the rude woman from earlier. I tell her I'm booked for Friday and she cuts me off, shouting "YOU STOP TALKING. I SPEAK AND THEN YOU SPEAK" and then continues shouting at me that I booked for today, and because I'm not there, due to their cancellation policy I lose the Groupon. I calmly state that I booked for Friday, not today, and they've made a mistake, and she cuts me off again, still literally screaming at me that I booked for today (apparently I booked a massage at a place I live 30 minutes from 20 minutes in advance?) and I can't use my groupon and she hangs up on me. A few minutes later I receive a call from a massage therapist there who asks if I'm coming in. I explain what happened and he was extremely apologetic and offered to reschedule me for Friday. I believe his name is Anthony--extremely polite and apologetic; agreed the woman should be fired, etc etc. He says that there is not a manager there that I can speak to about this issue. While I'm on the phone with Anthony, I receive 4 text messages through iMessage in a row apologizing for the "front desk talk like that" to me, stating her mother is hospitalized and she's having a "very difficult time." It is then explained that there was a mix-up with someone with my same name, and they didn't mean to tell me I was today. The massage therapist was blamed for this, but since it was the woman that called me, I'm assuming it's actually her fault. I said I need to speak to a manager, and she tells me that she is the manager and I can come tomorrow. I can't make it tomorrow, and I asked this "manager" to call me. She does not, so I try calling. Three times. No answer. I have a suspicion something weird is going on, and I call from a different number. And who should answer the phone? THE WOMAN FROM THE FRONT DESK WHO YELLED AT ME. I have no clue if she is actually the manager or was just pretending to be? But no wonder she didn't answer when I called! I tell her at this point that there is no way I'm paying for a massage after all this, and she yells at me AGAIN stating I won't be receiving a refund and if I don't come in tomorrow I can't use the Groupon. I have never had an experience this bad with customer service. I truly am in shock. I tried to call back Anthony, but my calls are still not being answered. Avoid this place like the plague!

My current esthetician is Nichole W., and I truly can't recommend her enough. She has made significant improvements to my skin, especially to acne, which I have struggled with for decades, and some aging. I do purchase the products she recommends, because my goal is to have long-term skin improvement. However, I have noticed that Nichole is mindful that people have varying financial situations and is helpful in choosing products to prioritize in the event I'm not able to buy them all at once. I wish I could have come here during my teenage years, because at that time I took every acne medication under the sun and saw minimal improvements, while Bespoke has been able to heal my skin and keep it healthy. Beyond the skincare, I want to highlight Nichole's kindness and the way she genuinely cares for her clients. On at least two occasions I've had an appointment after going through some major life challenge and each time Nichole listened as I told her what I was going through and made my facial a place to escape everything that was going on. She also helped ensure the products I was using were appropriate for the situation I was in at the time. It might sound minor, but these days it's hard to find people that take the time to truly listen to their clients, and that's exactly what Nichole does. For all these reasons I will remain a loyal client of Bespoke for years to come!

So after reading the reviews for Ritual and following them on social for a few months, I decided to book at appointment for a peel with Victoria. The business suite is located within a much bigger building and upon getting off the elevator on the 8th floor, it was clear to me that many of the surrounding suites include other medical professionals. Upon entry, you'll notice the clinic is pristine and elegant, while also feeling warm and welcoming. Cayla, the patient coordinator at the check-in desk was bubbly and genuine - as a first time visitor, that initial impression means a lot. No pretense, no standoffishness - just a desire to help you to get settled in. I was then taken to the waiting area which was also clean and comfortable, with a few refreshments that are available for guests. Luckily for me, I was only in there for a few minutes before Victoria came to get me. We took a few pics and then headed into the room for my appointment. The room felt very much like a room you may be in for a doctor's appointment - very sterile, bright lights - which of course is a good sign. I then chatted with Victoria about my concerns and needs. She was a great listener as well as a proactive communicator, always educating me as she made suggestions or talked with me about options. It's evident that her top concern is the patient's health and well-being first and foremost, which then guides her recommendations. With the additional knowledge and context she provides, it's impossible not to feel well taken care of, in the hands of a responsible and professional provider. I was also very appreciative of her care and awareness of what treatments would be best for my type of skin, educating me about the Fitzpatrick scale (which I had taken time to educate myself briefly about on my own, but had never had a provider articulate with such mindfulness.) She also was able to balance that professionalism with warmth - which is a rare combination to find. Her ability to make you feel comfortable seems to come naturally and really makes the whole experience not only impactful but enjoyable. It's also evident that she carries a wealth of knowledge and is confident about that (without being condescending.) Overall, very impressed with the business and grateful for Victoria's care. Will definitely be returning in the near future to explore other treatments that will be good investments in my overall skin health and integrity.

I am in DC temporarily for cancer treatment so I wanted to find a place to get my lashes done…read morebecause it's the one (vain) thing that makes me feel better right now. This place got good reviews so I booked an appointment at the Eastern Market location since it's near the place I'm staying. The night prior, they called and asked if I'd be willing to go to the Dupont Circle location instead so that the technician could fit in more appointments. It was annoying, but not a huge deal. I was getting lash removal & a new set of classic/hybrid lashes. I've been getting eyelash extensions for 13 years and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. They were thin, whispy, pre-made fans that were poorly glued onto only some of my lashes. They started falling off almost immediately, and there were visible white clumps of glue that a friend pointed out because she thought I had crumbs on my eyes. One week later when I went to another eyelash studio, they couldn't even tell I had any extensions on until they put me under the lights. I would've been better off just curling my own lashes & using mascara because mine are thicker & longer than whatever they used. I've never had such poor quality.
