I tried two services here that I never did before, and I really liked them both. I did threading for my eyebrows and chin. I really liked it for my eyebrows. I got a great shape and didn't think it hurt too much. I didn't love the chin...my skin was a little too sensitive there for some reason. It wasn't horrible, but I'd probably do waxing next time for that. Then i did sugaring for my legs and brazilian. It hurts a little but not much. Definitely doesn't hurt as much as waxing. I am in DC temporarily for cancer treatment so I wanted to find a place to get my lashes done because it's the one (vain) thing that makes me feel better right now. This place got good reviews so I booked an appointment at the Eastern Market location since it's near the place I'm staying. The night prior, they called and asked if I'd be willing to go to the Dupont Circle location instead so that the technician could fit in more appointments. It was annoying, but not a huge deal. I was getting lash removal & a new set of classic/hybrid lashes. I've been getting eyelash extensions for 13 years and this is by far the worst experience I've ever had. They were thin, whispy, pre-made fans that were poorly glued onto only some of my lashes. They started falling off almost immediately, and there were visible white clumps of glue that a friend pointed out because she thought I had crumbs on my eyes. One week later when I went to another eyelash studio, they couldn't even tell I had any extensions on until they put me under the lights. I would've been better off just curling my own lashes & using mascara because mine are thicker & longer than whatever they used. I've never had such poor quality. read more

Well, I don't think I'd have left the place a bad review as the ladies working here are very nice and I have been here a few times without hiccups. BUT, during my most recent visit, the beautician literally ripped pieces of my skin off during a regular upper lip wax! This is truly unacceptable and shows how badly trained some of the beauticians are though many of them are very qualified. To the owner and manager of this place: please don't let your trainees and unqualified staff operate on your clients. Mishaps like this are leaving scars on your customers! I love going to this place for eyebrow threading- they always do a FANTASTIC job, super quick, painless and exactly how I like them. I also go here for sugar waxing- I have been getting waxed for years and this is the most painless, quick, comfortable experience I have had. I can't rave enough about Silky Smooth. I'm not super particular about my eyebrows, but I do like time to be spent on them to get rid of every last annoying hair. Plus, I don't want it to be painful. Located in Dupont, a decent walk from where I live, it's always worth it. I've tried other places in the area, but I always come back. They have a great loyalty program, followed covid restrictions/guidelines incredibly well, and they spend time on my brows. Every time I've gone has been a hit, sometimes a little more painful than others, but overall always great. Super reasonable at $15, plus you can pay and tip by card. I've referred a few friends here and everyone loves it. You usually never have to wait and they finish with rose oil. I'm a very happy and returning customer! read more

Do not come here for a lash tint!!! I came in for a lash tint and when the dye started burning my eyes within a few minutes, the technician told me that some burning is normal (what?!!? those are my eyes!!!) and told me to keep waiting and when I said no, it was getting painful she wiped my eyes with a cotton pad which made the whole thing worse. The entire time, as the pain got worse, she was nonplussed and certainly not concerned with my experience, offered no apologies or explanations and while I'm still fighting to get my eyes fully open she asks me to pay the $30. I've had my eye lashes tinted many times and 1) it should not burn, ever and 2) you should care that you have caused a client pain and 3) it has never cost me $30. Keep your eyes away from this place and go to a real lash professional. read more

I've been coming to Silky Smooth for Brazilians, waxing, sugaring, and threading for about a year now and they have always been consistent. This is a no frills place though, it's not super glamorous or inviting but they are fast and efficient and more importantly they accept walk-ins any time of the day. When you walk in, you immediately see the threading area and reception desk. They have a small waiting area to the side with a couple of couches and small fridge with bottled water. Down the hallway, there are about three waxing/sugaring rooms and one small bathroom. I've gotten both waxing and sugaring here and both are sufficient, though I am partial to sugaring. The sugar here is thicker than at some other places I've been too, such as Shobha. Note that they do use thinner strips though. They also have the hard wax here that you can request at no additional charge, I have had that as well. All three services are generally painful for me, wherever I go, but I don't think the pain is any worse here than at any other place. They also are very thorough and I've only needed to finish my service with threading once, after my first underarm wax. I can also only recall getting ingrowns once. Also, of course, no double dipping! Prices are standard for the area, $80-90 for a Brazilian and underarm wax/sugar and $12 for eyebrow threading. The convenience of being able to walk right in without an appointment even on the weekends is one of the things that keeps me coming back. Unfortunately they only have a loyalty program for eyebrow services though, I hope they change that soon. read more

I've been here a couple of times for waxing and threading. I can personally vouch for Sanju (will get every stray hair), Krishma (the fastest), and Janaki (most efficient). They are all SO fast at waxing. I can walk in and out in under 30 minutes depending on what I'm doing. Everyone is a great conversationalist here and the studio is very clean. They definitely take COVID seriously. They will also recommend lotions you can use at home depending on your skin issues. Re: threading - they're helping me reshape the growth on my eyebrows after another studio took off a little more than I wanted. Scheduling: I do call ahead and have always been seen the same day. Since the pandemic, the salon has taken the strongest precautions to ensure customer and beautician safety. I've watched them disinfect chairs (with lysol) after customers leave. They also ensure that your hands are sanitized, along with requiring customers to be steamed down upon entering with a vapor sanitizer. Everyone wears masks. Please do not go here for a lash lift if you value having eyelashes. I visited on 4/3/2018 for a lash lift, tint, and eyebrow tint. I had gotten my lashes done before in Phoenix, and wanted to do it again in DC. All the great reviews of this place convinced me. There was no consultation, or discussion about how I wanted my lashes to look, the tint color, or the texture of my hair (I have fine hair). All of this was done by the previous esthetician in Phx. Silky did the lash lift. They left the solution on for probably 15 minutes, much longer than the previous lift I had had. It burned quite a bit, something I had not experienced the previous time. When they were finished, my lashes were wet from eye solution they had used to help the burning. They looked fine. However by the time they were dry they had curled back, nearly onto themselves as well as in various different directions. I tried everything I could think of to calm them down, to no avail. It is likely that the solution was left on too long, resulting in the lashes being fried. It basically looks like I have no lashes at all. I will have to wait the 6-8 weeks for them to grow back. Unfortunately, I was out of town and could no come back for another 2 weeks. When I did, I was told that since it had been two weeks, they could not offer me a refund. I explained to them why I had been unable to come in or call, but was given no sympathy. They took no accountability, offered no apologies. I try not to be a vain person, but my eyelashes look insane. I have and will continue to warn friends and colleagues about this place. So I paid over $100 to have my eyelashes ruined for the next 2 months. Thanks, Silky. read more

Came to get sugared. Manju is a talented, great waxer. However, their sugar waxing is NOT done with the room temperature sugar ball. They use a heated, dark brown wax. They said it is homemade by the owner out of glycerin, sugar, lemon, and water. It's applied with a waxing applicator stick and ripped off with a strip. CON: the regular chemical wax was used on portions of me without my permission to get "stubborn" hairs out. read more

I've have been coming to Silky Smooth now Brow Contour for a few years, until today. I have very sparse brows and have had great experiences in the past with technicians shaping and grooming my thin eyebrows. Today that was not the case, the woman hurriedly began threading my brows, didn't brush them, no assessment based on the sparse nature, nothing just began threading. After the first brow I realized she was plucking what little brows I had to bits and I should have stopped her then. I allowed her to finish the second brow and it only got worse. My brows were thin, circular yet shapeless, had over plucked spots and looked an absolutely fright. She offered to try and fix them but the damage was done, I barely had anything left to fix so I left very disappointed, knowing my time with this business had ended. The technicians change frequently and typically the new people are not as skilled. It has become hit or miss with this business for me, no longer a reliable option. read more

I came to this place for threading before my brothers wedding. I have been getting my eyebrows threaded for 10 years, and have NEVER had such bad results. After making my eyebrows completely uneven, the only fix they could provide was a brow tint. I had to pay for the brow tint which didn't make sense to me because there were no brow hairs to tint, and something I never even came in for. Attached are picture of my brows before and after. 4 months later, my brow hairs have NOT grown back in, despite using various medical grade brow growth treatments. Krishna does my eyebrow threading and she did my sugar wax Brazilian yesterday. She did a great job, made me feel comfortable since it was my first time at a new place. She told me everything she was going to do before she did it. She used a new stick everytime she dipped it in the all natural sugar wax. Lemon sugar and water. She wore gloves and cleaned me up before and after. Very clean and I will definitely go back again. Sugar wax leaves no residue or stickiness which is great compared to normal wax. Just 10$ extra. So 60$ for a Brazilian. I recently did he Microblading service at Silky Smooth. I've always been see conscious about my eye brows due to the lack of hair and the shape. I have micro bladed brows but threading elevates my brows even more! I have a lot of fine hairs that are difficult to get from waxing so I prefer brow threading because of the attention to detail especially with my arches. I don't have a specific person that I see because they all do a great job. First off my appt was at 9:30am and I didn't get there til 9:45 (I did call and say I was running behind), she was finishing someone up so being late worked lol.. anywho the way she did my sugar wax I was so surprised I didn't jump off the dang counter.
