My first impression of this establishment was not loving the parking or having to find the salon. When arriving to the salon, I felt more at ease. It's a nice, clean, upscale type of place. I made an appointment about 1.5 hours prior to arriving and was greeted by someone as I signed in through the self check in tablet. I was immediately assisted by Lydia. Lydia immediately put me at ease. She has over 30 years of experience and it shows. Her natural way of conversing while keeping you comfortable should be studied! After a few failed salon experiences and little bit of Yelping, I decided to give Capital Waxing Salon a try. I showed up on a Monday afternoon as a walk in for a pedicure and eyebrow wax. Ambiance: Right away, I liked the place. It's downstairs in a "mall-like" area, has a little seating area with water and tea, and did not smell of chemicals! They were able to get me in within 5 min. Services: Pedicure was fantastic. Amy was personable and did a great job. I enjoyed the massager chair, the plastic lining separating me from Amy, and that they bring the color swatches to you. My only disappointment was that I was told each pedicure comes with a massage but I didn't get one. I also did an eyebrow wax with Tulip, as Amy got pulled away to do a manicure last minute. It was efficient and she was able to accommodate my inability to lie down. Verdict: A week later, my toenails look great, feet feel good, and I'm glad I had the experience. I went here for a dip manicure and a pedicure. It was my first dip manicure so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I appreciated that Leslie was very friendly and explained what she was doing. I loved the color, but I found the manicure to be a little aggressive. My nails were already kinda short but were filed down a lot at the sides to create a shape. I had asked about this but Leslie assured me it was fine. Unfortunately, a couple of my nails/fingers are little sore near where they were filed down. They also don't have you wash your hands before finishing the manicure, so I can see some white specks in the color. Not sure if this is a normal thing for dip but I don't think so! The pedicure experience was also a bit aggressive, and I didn't feel confident they were using sanitized tools since I didn't see them come out of the pack. Andy said they were sanitized and used alcohol to spray them, but it was different from my experience at other salons. He spent a lot of time trimming my cuticles as well and assured me that he knew what he was doing even though I said I don't like them trimmed too much. They pushed for me to get a gel pedicure instead of a regular one, since it was already closing time and I could get out faster with gel. It look good and thankfully do not hurt, but he was trimming a lot. They also tried to pitch me on getting my eyebrows done or a wax. I didn't want either of those things lol. If you really like your cuticles trimmed and want to spend the whole time chatting with the folks who work here, this could be the place for you. For me I prefer when they take my feedback and go light on cuticles. read more

Don't sleep on the facials! I went here for a facial with Camly. When I say this facial was amazing and one of the best facials, I have had would be an understatement. Cam did an amazing job with my ethnic skin. She did not recommend a chemical peel, which I wanted due to hyperpigmentation, but she gave my skin exactly what it needed. I also enjoyed the hot stones and mini massage that came along with the facial. My skin was glowing and everything she used was perfect for my skin type. I felt like I got my money's worth and more. I will definitely be returning. The only thing I would note is that the salon is located inside an office building and on the lower floor. There is no sign directing you to where it i located once in the building, and it cannot be seen from the street. It's definitely a hidden gem. Also, you can't leave a tip with your card so if you plan on leaving a tip you will need to use cash or venmo. read more

Though the name may make it sound otherwise, this place is not just for waxing. I came in and got a wax and manicure, and am very happy with how both turned out. We also didn't wait at all to be serviced on a weekday afternoon. It's a full service nail salon that I'd come back to if I lived in the area. My nails look perfect and brand new a full week after my gel manicure, even though the color is dark and contrasts with my skin tone. They do multiple services, including dip powder, and have lots of colors. I had great service - friendly but not overly chatty, which I especially love in a bikini wax. My skin is super sensitive, and I've had bad experiences with waxes before, so I don't like to branch out, but I'm so happy I did here! My technician was quick, professional, and completely fabulous. I ONLY write reviews when I've had an extremely negative experience or a very positive experience with a business. I'd like to comment on 2 employees at this establishment. First, let's chat about Sophia. She has only done my dip nails once, but when she did, I was AMAZED. I came in with a very bad press on nail set on top of a dip set. It was terrible. It took Sophia about 2 hours to complete a miracle but she was so pleasant, patient and kind. She continued to reiterate that she loved a challenge. She turned a moment that could have been embarrassing and stressful for me, into an emphatic, relaxing and professional experience. Thank you so much! Last but not least, Leslie. She has been doing my Brazilian waxes since I relocated to DC over a year ago. She is ALWAYS pleasant and the process is painless and precise. I've only had one experience where one of her clients was running late for an appointment, which put me extremely behind in my schedule and made me late for my next appointment. 2 stars for appearance of the manicure - I got builder gel overlay with tips & a gel manicure and it looked great. Recommend if you care about great looks, not great experience. However, my skin had a very negative reaction to the polish. This is something that has only ever happened to me with cheap Amazon nail polish, and never at any salon with quality materials. The color on one of my nails completely lifted off after a week (also only happens with typically cheap products) BUT they did fix it for free and were apologetic, which I appreciated. Experience was pretty bad. I had to wait for a long time despite having an appointment and they left acetone on my hands for over 30 minutes because they were too busy, not because it was necessary. That's a ridiculous amount of time to leave a strong chemical on someone's hands. After someone finally started working on my manicure, he made several comments that made me very uncomfortable (giving me a bikini wax, giving his wife a bikini wax, saying not to tell the other workers that he told me that). He also tried to push getting acrylics on me & continued to tell me I made the wrong choice by not opting to get them; he was clearly annoyed I didn't want them. My nails look amazing, but the experience and discomfort is not worth the appearance. read more

Based on the reviews, I was really excited to try out Capital Waxing Salon, but I just found it to be okay. I got a gel mani and regular pedicure, but it was definitely more of a utilitarian experience than a relaxing one. I had asked for my pedicure to match my manicure, but it was only when I was walking back home that I realized my nails are two different colors--which I've never had happen at any other salon. I don't think I'll be returning. It may depend which beauty technician you have, but for me, I don't want to worry about quality differences across techs when I go to get my nails--or any other beauty services--done. read more

This review is only for nail services. I used to go frequently for waxing (Lyly is amazing!) and then started getting manis and pedis. My first pedicure was amazing. My second--my heel was grated so much that there was a cut on it. I didn't notice until walked home and inspected my foot because my heel hurt. I was mortified to see blood as well as the obvious health concerns associated with an open wound in a foot tub. I called to report and they told me the person would call me to remedy. I didn't receive a call. I won't be going back. It's a shame. read more

I went to get my nails repolished for what I had planned to be an eventful weekend and my polish from the week before's mani was chipped. I walked in and got fit in before other appointments. It was a nice clean salon, they were playing cnn because yet another school shooting. I was pleased with my service, I got white nails with two glittered accent nails for $10. When I woke up the next morning one of my glittered nails was completely clear... the next morning so was the other glittered nail, the day after another nail was completely clear and my polish had begun to chip!!!! I've had plenty of mania, even with gel polish and this has never happened.. I wonder what's in, or not in, their polish. Leslie was so great! She was quick, thorough, and super clean throughout my entire waxing process. I had a different person for my nails...I wasn't that fond of her work.
