I searched for a new DC nail tech after my last one moved. I saw one review about someone's manicure chipping after several days and I can confirm. I went on a Sunday morning and found the front desk a bit frantic despite there being 3 people working there. One pedicure tech finally sat me (for my appointment) but the foot bath wasn't functioning. Amber was my tech and moved me to another chair. While she was pleasant I thought the charge of $120 for a gel manicure and pedicure was too much given the lack luster environment. However, what cemented for me this place is horrible is that within 2 days the gel manicure chipped! First it was 2 nails. Now, 4 days later 3. I called and they wanted me to come back there to have them fixed. I said I would never return and they gave me some money back as I insisted. But the continued deterioration of the service after just days is clear this isn't good good nail spa. I don't recommend it and I wouldn't return. read more

I wish I lived in DC so I could make Gloss Bar my normal nail salon. I made a last minute appointment to get a gel overlay and just took a chance on the tech. Ashima was AMAZING! My nails have never looked so good. She was so friendly and chatty as well. The salon is clean and pretty. You have a choice of drinks both adult and soft drinks. Gloss Bar is a solid, if expensive nail salon. I went with friends and we got a variety of services. While across the board the results were good--color was applied well, the nails were nicely shaped--we felt like we didn't necessarily get service that matched the price. There were no hot towels, none of our manicures came with a hand massage, and we had to ask for our complimentary beverage. None of that is a deal breaker, but for $55-75 a service (even a basic polish manicure is $45!) it would have been nice to have more than the bare bones! One outlier, my friend who got a pedicure loved her leg massage. I'll also note while I called and made a reservation and received a confirmation text AND confirmation call, when we showed up the front desk didn't know who we were or check our reservation. Again, not really a problem, but Gloss Bar is definitely trying to market itself as a luxury spa nail salon, but the experience is pretty comparable to any old nail salon. read more

My partner and I visited GlossBar yesterday--myself for an acrylic fill with gel polish and a gel pedicure, and my partner for a gel manicure and gel pedicure. Unfortunately, my partner's experience with her gel manicure was poor enough that she asked the technician to stop before it was even finished--we still paid for the service and decided against the pedicures. At first, my experience seemed to be going better. But later that same evening, I noticed my gel polish had developed visible lumps. I returned to the salon the next day to have it corrected, only to be told they were too busy and that I'd need to come back yet again the following day. When I asked if there would be any partial refund--considering I now had to make three separate trips for one service--I was told no. Gel polish is not a complicated service, so the fact that this is where things fell apart was disappointing enough. But what really frustrated me was the complete lack of accountability or acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Needless to say, I won't be returning. This is a review for the new head spa connected to Gloss Bar. I have been wanting to try a head spa for a while, and was excited to hear one had opened in DC. The experience itself was overall lovely - I was very relaxed and the massages felt wonderful. It was a little odd to be in one big room so you could hear other people getting the treatment. But it didn't detract too much. The reason I have to give 3 stars, however, is because the bathroom and hair dry room were SO dirty. There were clumps of hair everywhere, and it made me super uncomfortable. If they could correct this, it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience. read more

I got a manicure here and my nail tech charted a unique path in that she had such little interest my manicure that she actively undersold me on extras. My polish was chipping by the time I got home, but perhaps the most infuriating part is she was so inconsistent, that while 90% of the polish pealed off within 48 hours, the remaining 10% has been stuck on my nails stronger than Nancy Reagan's mouth on a Hollywood producer's cock in the '70s. I'm sorry to say this -because it's partially my fault -but I won't be back. I stopped in on the way home from work and it's slightly off my route home but I desperately needed a mani-pedi and so I was willing to risk it. I had one of the best MANICURES and PEDICURES I've ever had. The salon is brand new (if you've been, they moved to a new larger location across the street), they have absolutely gorgeous ambiance, comfortable massage chairs and a wonderful polish selection. My issue was that I always get a dip manicure and I always get almond. The guy doing my manicure steered me away from almond because he said my nails were too short, then he tried to convince me to do builder gel. I'm sorry, I get dip on my natural nails and I've had almond on shorter nails. It's what I do. I got my nails done Thursday, one entire nail had the polish lift and come off by Tuesday and a nail broke on Thursday with normal wear and tear. I didn't even get 10 days. Which is my standard. Now for the part that's my fault: He did tell me that if anything happened to my nails in two weeks he would fix for me but imho if he thought that, he should have fixed it then and it's OUT OF MY WAY (especially the week of Christmas), so I didn't go back. I went to a place 5 minutes from my house and they did a creditable job even with two broken nails. I won't go back because it's out of the way but it might be worth it to train a tech here for what you like if it's your local nail shop. It's clean, the service is excellent, the polish selection is good and, like I said, it was one of the BEST cuticle services I've had on feet or hands in a while! If it were in my area I'd likely try it again. The parking in the garage across the street is reasonable but they don't validate. They're near Giant which does validate but only for one hour so that could be an option... but it's up To you. I wouldn't go out of my way to return but that's likely more a preference issue than a comment on the service. read more

The Gloss Bar has some of the best polishes and the ambiance is clean and elegant. I got the cat eye polish in hot pink with gel-X. I love them and they were neatly done. Overall, my experience was great! I enjoyed a mimosa with my manicure. I didn't have any cuts or painful areas following the manicure. However, my best friend's manicure was rushed and messy to start on another client. I was disappointed that the tech didn't attempt to fix it. I'm not sure if it's because she just got a gel mani and mine was a more expensive service, but we didn't have the same experience. I offered to request her nails be redone, but she declined. Regardless of service, all clients should be treated the same. I also felt like they weren't upfront about pricing. Just an FYI - cat eye polish is an additional $20. I will note that there are comparable prices throughout the District. Nonetheless, Tam did a fantastic job and ensured that each nail was to my liking before I headed out the door. 1 Week Review - The nails were in top shape! Were incredibly shiny and looked great with my outfits. Got some compliments as well! 2 Week Review - Slight chip on my nail post-shower, but completely understandable. Glutton for punishment. Attempted 3x. The first visit left me with a gel mani that expired within 3 days while on vacation. When I returned, I was informed it was a new polish line and all customers were being redone. Why keep using it if every customer has complained? The second visit was a rushed tech who didn't want to 'seal' the gel, which resulted in a pocket of air under two nails. The manager/owner reviewed and took more pictures. I, obviously, didn't learn my lesson. The final visit - instead of notifying me they were running far behind, they insisted more staff was arriving. They did not. The lobby area had so many arrive, adding to a group of us already waiting. Their response to this was 'not being able to control who comes to work'. While that may be true, it is your responsibility to let your customers know you can't accommodate any of them at their scheduled times. Time is a priority. Otherwise, you wouldn't use a schedule. Or say you're using a schedule. Greed. Cheap line of polishes. Speeding through appointments. Ignored/irrelevant request to book a particular person (never available). Over booking. I WAS PUNKED. I appreciate their goal of making your scalp whole again (they scan it before and after the experience) but other than that, what an odd and underwhelming experience. I sat under a water ring for 20 mins...I had to look up at one point and check the staffer hadn't left for a break? No touch, no focus on releasing tension in my head, neck or shoulders even after I shared that was my hope from the jump. It felt like I paid $115+ to lay in a bed with some water running down my scalp for 50 minutes. Highway robbery. Came here for the first time yesterday for their head spa and it was fantastic. Located across the street from the nail salon, the head spa has a calm, spa-like vibe and smells like lavender. I'd seen this service on Tik Tok and wanted to try it, and it's easily one of the most relaxing things I've done in a long time. Chip was my technician and she was so kind and the service was incredible. She started by using a camera to get a super close up view of my scalp to inspect its health. Then during the service, she didn't rush, massaging my head and shoulders and washing my hair - who knew this would be such a luxury!? I paid a ridiculously high price for a regular manicure, no hand massage, little attention to my cuticles, and a drop of moisturizer on the top of my hands. I chose their polish. By the time I left town the next day, the polish was flaking off. There is no reason for this other than the fact this salon uses old, inferior polishes. I've heard they do a mediocre job on gel and dip. They take pictures for posting right after the mani is finished, because those chip fast as well.
