I had three sessions of laser hair removal here, and then they burned both of my legs. See attached photos. Their NY office reached out to me after the appt and first tried to blame it on sun exposure (I had not had any), then asked if I smoked weed (I do not and fail to see how this is relevant. I saw a nurse practitioner that prescribed a burn medication. She told me she was previously a laser technician and they would have had to use an extremely unsafe setting to produce this level of burn. These burns/scars lasted a year. I would highly recommend going to Laser Away. It was slightly more expensive but definitely worth the extra money to achieve good results, and to have a safe experience that doesn't leave you with extremely painful and long lasting burns. read more

I have to say a 5 out of 5. From the moment I walked in until the moment I left, this place gave 5 stars! It's definitely a (slightly) hidden gem given the nearby roadwork, but an absolutely gorgeous atmosphere. The associate in the front was extremely friendly and was an AMAZING salesperson because after my experience, I WILL be getting a wax package. I had the opportunity to have Samila. So I purchased a 6 pack for underarms and after leaving everytime with 2nd degree burns I asked if I could exchange the last service in the pack for an eyebrow service and their first excuse was that the amount doesn't add up.. Huh? Are they slow in math... Underarms are $29, eyebrows are $24??? What are you talking about? Then they literally told me that since I bought the pack that said, "Purchase 5 get the last one free, my last one has no monetary value for me to exchange for my eyebrows... albeit, I can use the money from that last one towards buying another pack... You know what that smells like..? Bull sh**.. because that means it DOES in fact have monetary value.. lost a loyal customer for a petty $20, horrible way to do business. I loved this place! I came here during the Yelp's Summer of Self-Care event. I scheduled a down-there wax with Suni for 7:30. Driving into DC is usually painful, so I overestimated traffic and got there over an hour early. The front desk staff was accommodating and scheduled an earlier appointment for me. Suni did my wax. She was very polite and warned me every time she was about to do something. She answered all of my questions and made me comfortable. Most importantly, she was gentle. Her services were quick and painless. I have sensitive skin, but had no negative reactions to the products, and I love the results. After the appointment I asked the front desk staff, particularly Kiara, a lot of questions about other services. She was able to answer my questions and recommended a wax and laser hair removal consultation appointment in one. Shobha also has package deals, which is sweet. The staff was great, the venue was clean, and I found ample meter parking close by. Glad I was recommended to visit! *Update* After seeing the reviews of others, I'd like to note that there is a no period policy. This did not bother me, but it is an important note. Called the next day to let them know. I was nice about it. The manager called me back and asked for a photo of the burn. I was gobsmacked by the request--I'm not going to send a business a picture of my crotch! She never made any apologies, didn't offer any of my money back. At the end of the call, I asked her for a partial refund. She said she would email me about it. It's been over a week, never heard another word. I paid $66 to get my crotch burned. Stopped by Shobha on a Friday after work and they were able to take me as a walk in right away. I had Sabina as my technician and she was friendly and asked how I wanted my eyebrows done. She did a great job keeping my natural shape and I felt minimal discomfort from the threading. She worked fast and applied rose water and a cold compress afterwards which was a nice touch. The store itself was modern and clean and had two people at the front desk to welcome you upon arrival. There was also tea and water available for free refreshments. They also sold cocokind products which a company I love, although they raise the prices of the products a bit which is expected. Overall it was a great experience, although for the high price I don't know that I would go back very often for how much it costs. read more

Is this what sugaring is supposed to feel like after all? I have been getting sugared for a couple of months but have never experienced something this pain free! I booked online for a sugaring treatment and the whole experience was really pleasant. This place has a section in the front with some chairs for facial threading and some rooms in the back for waxing. The service was fast and the wax wasn't too hot. I've been seeing Michelle for laser hair removal. She's funny, professional, and most importantly, makes me very comfortable. I realized I trust her with my crotch more than my gyno! Michelle is seriously the best and I wish I had started going to her for laser a long time ago. I think it's safe to say that I won't be returning to Shobha. My last Brazilian here was bad. The girl clearly did not know the correct technique. I may not have been able to see what she was doing down there, but I could feel it and I know that she was all over the place. She was not following the proper form, she kept going over places that had already been waxed and she was even waxing my bare skin at some moments. It was pretty painful and I ended up being sore for about three days. I have been getting Brazilians for a few years now and I have never been sore for days. Oh yeah, and there was still a great amount of stray hairs left after she was done. The icing on the cake occurred today. I signed up to be their "hairy model" and receive an eyebrow threading for a discounted price. The eyebrow threading was absolutely horrendous and now I am walking around with swollen eyelids and a huge hairless gap in my eyebrows. The girl was nice, but I really don't know what she was doing and I don't think she needs to be doing eyebrows, honestly. I know eyebrows should be thought of as "sisters" and not "twins", but when she was done, my eyebrows were nowhere close to even looking alike. How did she think that that was okay? It took two other technicians to come by and finally one of them decided that she would just have to make my other eyebrow "match" the botched one. In the end, I still have one eyebrow with a huge chunk of hair missing. The most frustrating thing about my experience today was the way the situation was handled. After the last technician attempted to match my eyebrow to the ugly one, the response was a dry, unenthusiastic, "Oh, sorry. It'll grow back!" REALLY?! Oh my gosh, I don't know how I went through life with years of education, including Grad school, not knowing that hair grows back!!! Frustratingly, I then go up to the register and the ladies behind the desk ask me how my experience was, I told them "Terrible". They then responded by saying "Oh okay. Well at least you didn't pay full price". SMH. Because I did not pay full price, that means my concern/experience is not valid? I won't be coming back here, even if it is located right next to my job. The high price is not justified by the lack of skill and customer service. I'd rather just go back to my original place in Alexandria for waxing; it is completely out of the way for me, but at least I know I am getting good service. read more

I come here a lot to get my brows threaded as it's right near my office. I like Jwala and she does a good job. Sometimes I feel like she's working for a while, but then my brows look the same. I never quite get the shape I'm going for, but I wonder if it's just because my natural brows aren't the best. She's very open to critique and always goes back to take off more for me. I am always red at the end of the session - threading is not comfortable! But, then again, neither is waxing. Beauty hurts, ladies. They apply a soothing gel and cortisol which is a nice touch. The space is clean and they are always prompt. Buy a 6 pack if you plan on coming frequently - it drops the price down to $18 a session. UPDATE: I started seeing Anita and she is quick and efficient! I was super excited to redeem a coupon I received at an Elite Yelp event earlier that day. I received such great service at the event, I was looking forward to service number two. I was greeted by a wonderful hostess who answered all my questions and quickly got all my information and prepped me for my Sugar Brazilian Wax. The facility was clean, bright and very inviting! They have water, tea and the best little candies ever. My technician came out introduced herself (Suni) and escorted me back to the room for my service. She walked me through the service and was super nice to me. The service only took about 15 minutes. Such great service, I booked my next appointment! I came in for my first wax ever and really had a great experience. I booked through Yelp and mentioned that I had a "free service" card through a previous Yelp event and was told to just bring it with me so it can be honored. I was running a little late and had some trouble reaching the business via phone because the responses automated, but I messaged the business via Yelp and they ended up calling me back and pushed my appointment back so I wouldn't be considered late. Suni did my wax for me, and I told her that I was nervous because I never had a wax done before, but she was very calm and friendly and I felt comfortable with her. I really wanted to love Shobha because I've been in New York and haven't found a reliable eyebrow specialist in DC. However, the technician didn't listen to my requests (thick in the front with high arch) and gave me the most generic threaded brows. I also had them tinted and the color is just all wrong (medium cool brown on a redhead..). She also missed a big spot right in the front (see pic)! Really disappointing all around. 3/5 stars because they were very friendly, the studio was cute, they didn't ruin anything permanent and I have had worse threading, but definitely disappointing for what I would hope would be some of the best in dc. read more

I even purchased an exfoliating cloth and their lotion to prevent I grown hairs as well as a gift card (which was on promotion to get an additional $20 free with purchase) for future services. I've seen Michelle for laser hair removal for 5 sessions now, and I've been so happy with my experience at Shobha. First off, pricing here is super fair. Laser in the DC area get's expensive, but the pricing at Shobha is great for a high-level of quality service. This is what first drew me here. I also really appreciate that you can pay by session, rather than paying for an entire 6 sessions upfront (although there are cost benefits to doing it this way). Michelle is thorough. I've been to other places for laser where I felt like they didn't do a sufficient job to get all the hairs. This is not a problem here. Michelle leaves no hair behind, and takes the time to make sure to cool the area and make it as comfortable as possible. Not only is she good at what she does, but Michelle makes you feel comfortable and welcome right away. It's a lot to trust someone with laser in the bikini area, but Michelle is excellent at creating a comfortable and safe environment. PLEASE go see Michelle. You will not be disappointed. I hate to write this. But this laser tech should not legally or ethically be legally servicing women laser hair removal. She is verbally abusive and degrading. I went twice. Shame on me. But the first day, I over optimistically hoped she was having a bad da. I flagged for management but have yet to hear back. Please run run away from this company. There are many options in the DMV. I don't know what happened to the laser tech- it was bad- but it doesn't giver her the right to push her hurt onto other women. I'm not the first to complain. I came here during Yelp's Summer Self Care Event. I was super excited that I was able to get a spot for a (sugar) waxing. I was 1/2 hour early and they were able to take me - which was nice. Front reception staff was nice and so was the person doing my wax.... 3 stars for that. As for my waxing, it was a bit intense and super rushed. She had to use the bathroom...handed me the mirror and excused herself. That wasn't a good way to end my session. I placed the mirror back, got dressed and left. I'm still sore and super red-not sure if that's normal. I'm hoping the coconut oil help soothe it. Sad to say, I won't be returning :-( read more

Growing up all my best friends were Pakistani, Indian and Persian so I've been threading for forever. Most of my experiences have been in some lady's townhouse basement, the decrepit back room of a jewelery store, and under the leering eyes of onlookers at the Tyson's Corner Mall. Thank God for Shobha! They have turned hair removal into an art form. This small shop is super clean, smells nice, and is 100% sanitary. I stopped in on a Friday afternoon and they were nice enough to take me in without an appointment. My technician was super sweet and even remembered me from my appointment a few months before. She was gentle and took her time to shape my eyebrows and clean me up for perfection. The total cost of everything of my experience was a little bit over $30, which is about 50% more than I usually pay but the visit was well worth it. read more

Three and a half stars. Being pretty hurts, but Shobha takes the sting out of it... physically. Your wallet may disagree, and it's more difficult for us less hairy folk to see the value in it without working the discount opportunities. Their hairy model form kept signing me up for the wrong timeslot, and the trainer kept remarking on how little hair I have. Attempts to phone them are routed to a remote call center, and I initially got a newer operator who failed to cancel one of my appointments. No longer featuring the charging station or carrying Margot Elena lotions, sadly. The staff here are all super friendly and personable. Accepted a half-cup of ice cold water over the displayed teas for my short wait. I've given their eyebrow threading and bikini sugar waxing services a try so far. I thread myself with more care, which seemed the safest bet after my already sparse eyebrows were made slimmer than intended and given a devilish arch that took months to smooth out. Sugar waxing muted most of the pain, and the calming toner kept the redness and swelling down. Unfortunately, the powder on my sparse hair made it difficult to QC in a mirror until after a shower, when it became obvious that spots had definitely been missed. If I was naturally more yeti-esque, I'd be more interested in their offerings. read more

If you wonder why you should go to Shobbha instead of one of many cheaper DC's nail salons that offer waxing in addition to mani-pedi, here are the few reasons that I think are important: place cleanliness, use of gloves, no double dipping, actual waxing technique, calming lotion, quality of their products, flexible online appointment system: important details that make the overall price worth it. I paid 120$ for legs, Brazilian and underarms (they have packages, ask). Lipika, my technician, was efficient but gentle, she did a painless job on legs and underarms and took the time to respond to my questions about their techniques. Shobha has a good wax, but off putting service. I work across the street, and was able to get a next day lunch appointment for a leg wax. The appointment started fairly on time (maybe 5 minutes late) which is important, since I was doing it on my lunch break. The whole lower leg took less than 30 minutes, was relatively painless, and got most of the hairs. At the end, I asked for a tweezer for the few remaining in-growns, but was told they don't have any. The few things I found off putting were that my technician didn't leave the room for me to undress, or provide me with any way of covering up. Luckily, I was wearing a dress, so it was ok. But, I would feel awkward if I were wearing pants that I would have had to have taken off. She also didn't give great guidance about how to move my leg, and seemed annoyed when her mumbling didn't result in the action she was looking for. Then, at the counter, the woman tried to sell me products, and held my credit card hostage until I signed the receipt. "You can have your card back when you sign the receipt." Tip: you can't leave tip on credit cards, but, they do provide change, envelopes, and the name of your technician. Remember to bring cash! read more
