I wanted to love this place since I heard good reviews from my neighbors on H Street but yet again, like all establishments I've visited in DC since moving here, I'm left very disappointed again. My left toenail was caused to bleed from excessive cuticle trimming. I don't understand why so many nail stylists here trim excessively the cuticle it's really not necessary and causes nails to deform and harden even more. I also noticed they don't use tools that are one time use for sanitary purposes; they reuse the same tools on everyone and I haven't had a toenail infection in years but when she was removing my toenail polish I noticed one of my toenails beginning to develop one (from a visit to the nail salon next door that has the same unsanitary issues with reusing the same nail tools). Frankly awful really and I just don't know what's going on with DC. Now both of my toenails look very different from each other too like both big toenails have vastly different shapes and the massage was very painful. I did not have a pleasant massage at all and I kept asking her to do it softer and she didn't understand me she kept doing the massage on my toes very hard which now feels like they're bruising. She also got lotion on my crotch area and leggings somehow and tried to clean it off which was very fucking awkward and slightly uncomfortable lmfao. Yikes. All this experience for $65 just doesn't make me want to come back again. Nail techs suck, hair stylists suck, everything is so mediocre here. I miss Miami. read more

This place is tried and true, they do a good job. However, I do think they can be more transparent about their pricing. I've gone here consistently since March and get a pretty consistent services: gel manicure using hard gel. Each time I'm charged something different for the same service. Today I inquired about the inconsistency they said i got charged extra to cut my nails (dear reader, please understand my nails were not even long). Please note: nail trims are included in the price of a gel manicure, nail "cuts" are not. The difference? The day you come in I suppose. I've come here twice for gel manicures, both times with an appointment. I usually go to another salon in the neighborhood but that one is always so busy. So I decided to check out this place with my friend.The first time was in like late January with my friend and the second time was on Valentine's Day alone. Both times I've had a great experience. It is a no frills salon as the previous reviews have mentioned so don't expect a lux spa treatment. My friend got simple acrylics with a design and I just got a plain gel manicure. My manicures both lasted me 3+ weeks with no chipping or cracking. If you pay in cash, the gel manicure is $40 and with tip it came out to $50 (this includes soak off of old manicure!). This is probably the cheapest I've paid for a gel manicure in Capitol Hill. And the nails came out beautiful so definitely worth it. Honestly, good experience. I'll come back. I don't remember who my nail tech was, just that her station was the second from the far back. My friends person was the first from the far back. Hope this helps. read more

I had actually never had a manicure or pedicure before I came here, but I've now been here 4 times, and each time has been a positive experience. The nail techs are both nice and efficient, and I've liked my nails each time. I've had a normal mani/pedi, a dip powder manicure, and a French manicure, and all were great. The dip powder lasted close to two months with really no chipping (though I dont recommend leaving it on that long, as it did make a pit between where the dip powder initially started and where my new nail growth was - that was my fault). I always leave feeling very relaxed, and I feel tye prices are very reasonable. I've never felt the need to try other nail salons because my experiences here have been so good. I think I may have finally found my go-to nail salon. I often find a lot of salons give men an inferior level of service and rush through the appointment thus doing an unsatisfactory job. Not at District Nails--The service was prompt and efficient. My nail tech (whose name I'm remised to have gotten) was attentive and took her time giving me a pedicure. I chose the #3 Spa Pedicure option because I was drawn to the lavender scrub and mint mask--thought it was perfect for a hot summer day. The shop was a bit challenging to find since it's on the second level and the entrance is on a side street, but no regrets. It was clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, and the staff was friendly. They may also offer a bottle of water or a glass of wine. I will return. read more

I've been visiting District Nails for about 2 maybe 3 years now, and the most recent times I have enjoyed the service from Li because my nails are always so neatly done and she's very gentle. In the past I was getting Gel manis and pedis but decided to stop because my nails were becoming so brittle and splitting. So, I reverted back to regular polish, however I will say the quality of their nail polish would chip after about one or two days. These last two times I've decided to bring my own polish and can significantly see a difference in the longevity of my mani and pedis. I have experienced chipping and peeing with gel at other places, but that never happens to me here. Service: 10/10. One of the rudest and most mediocre experiences I've had with a nail salon. Come here for BASIC nails. Don't come in here expecting to get on trend nails/techniques. They can crack out a mediocre basic nail job, but they're not priced like that--they're priced at a specialty rate. The nail technicians here have ZERO patience for anyone who comes in here and pushes back a little bit to advocate for the styles they are **paying** for. From trying to make certain the nail polish color is correct, providing feedback that an acrylic nail is crooked...it doesn't matter... I witnessed one technician laugh in a customers face FOUR times who was uncertain the color they picked was the color that was being put on them. This technician laughed and repeatedly said.."what are you talking about, can you not see?" Until the woman finally just stopped talking bc she was sick of being bullied and laughed at. My technician (Katie Tran) got so frustrated at one point with me trying to explain a technique to her that a previous salon I went to in Texas used with me for the style I wanted...that she just rudely said..."why don't you just go to that salon?" What even? Are you 12?? She also stood up, looked at the ceiling, cheeks flushed bright red bc I was reiterating the style I wanted and she was frustrated. She has no clue what the color rose gold was. Even when I pointed to something on her table and said...that's rose gold. She refused to fix a crooked nail bc she was like..."it doesn't look crooked to me." Towards the end of my polish portion of my acrylics, she used a cuticle cutters to pull a piece of lint out of my polish...and didn't do anything to fix the subsequent dent. I was too exhausted and turned off by their rudeness to even try to address it. And the icing on the cake was that within less than 24hrs (from 8pm to 10am the next day) ....the chrome is coming off. 2 days later...significantly coming off. I always tip 20% regardless of asshole behavior bc...customer service jobs are hard as hell. But this experience was so unprofessional, so rude and so mediocre that I left wondering...how the hell did I just pay $96 dollars ($16 tip) for that busted as hell, godawful service? Also...please, I beg. I BEG...This is DC. Ppl work in the foreign service or are returned peace corps members. Many ppl have a cursory understanding of various languages. Don't assume ppl can't understand the horrifyingly rude, frustrated shit you are talking about your customers. Appalling. Miss this place y'all. DC HAS to have better. read more

District Nails- my favorite and go-to nail salon in the neighborhood. I've been coming here for about a year now and I always see Linda (the owner). I've had a pleasant experience with all of the ladies working here! I make sure to book an appointment when I have free time because they take there time with your service. I always get a gel manicure and regular pedicure. They have a few different options for pedicures, ranging from $35-$70. I was so happy when phase 2 began and the salon could open again. I am so pleased with how they are handling business with covid. They are taking appointments via phone or walk in appointments. When you arrive you are asked to wash your hands, then sign a covid-19 health tracking form. They offer pens (with signs for clean/used pens), plenty of hand sanitizer, each station has a plastic shield between the client and technician, and the pedicure chairs are spaced apart. They also offer face mask if needed. Normally, they offer drinks with your service but that has been suspended for now. The vietnamese coffee is so good! I can't wait for that to return! Be sure to bring cash for tip (they don't allow tip on cards) or they have info to venmo your technician. I'm happy to have to be a client here! read more

I needed my nails done last minute and was in the city for an event. The salon is very clean and sanitary procedures were followed including mask usage. Everyone was very polite and I was offered water, juice, and wine. My tech was very pleasant and took her time on my gel pedicure though she did miss the stone on my heels. I believe she started rushing after that because my appointment time was scheduled for an hour and a half and my pedicure took an hour and ten minutes; leaving only 20 minutes for my gel manicure. The polish is uneven and not all of my nails are evenly square. Gel is considerably more expensive so my expectation for quality is justifiably higher. I gave this salon 4 stars for the service and atmosphere as well as availability and location last minute. I may try them again for a traditional mani/pedi in the future. read more

Let me begin by saying two things: I think it all depends on who you get as a nail tech here. The first time I went was a great experience, but the second experience will be my last. The second thing- I have only ever felt the need to write one other review on Google in my life, a positive one. I came in with dip nails with extensions and my nails were finally at the length I wanted under the extensions to go naturally. I asked for dip powder. The nail tech did not ask me the length I wanted, but I told her I would like to keep my natural nails underneath the same length. She immediately cut off a significant amount of length, ruining all of the progress I had from growing my nails for the past several weeks. She was extremely rough with my hands and was in a rush the entire time. When she was using the buffing tool around my nails, I was cut on two fingers. I winced, and she chuckled and asked if I was okay. I thought she might go more gently moving forward but it continued. Later, she put a gel product on my nails that caused the cuts to sting significantly. I winced again, and she said it was normal to feel some stinging. I have been getting my nails done for 10 years and have never had that kind of pain. Again, she used nail polish remover at the end, paying no mind or attention to the cuts on my fingers, causing them to burn and sting again. The entire experience felt hostile and rushed, and I left on the verge of tears. I was very excited the first time I came here, but I will never return after the careless and terrible experience I had today. I know people make mistakes, but the response I received when I was bleeding was enough to never return. read more

I get my eyebrows done at District Nails and have never been disappointed. I've had multiple estheticians there and all have done an excellent job. Better and more efficient service than other salons I've been to that charge 2x the price. I have sensitive skin and have gotten wax burns from other salons, but that has never happened to me at District Nails. Highly recommend for waxing! read more

This is a great no-frills place to get your nails done. I go here every 2-3 weeks for a gel manicure, and I've always left happy. It gets busy, but their online booking system is super easy to use. People are constantly asking for the latest trend or complex/multicolored designs, and they always do a great job. I tend to stick with the basics, but I did multicolored nails once and they were excited (as opposed to other places that can make you feel like you're creating a hassle.) I'd recommend this place for your usual mani/pedi options, but not for a big group looking for a spa-like atmosphere on a special occasion. I wanted to really like the salon, especially with overall 4-star reviews. The positive: The staff was very nice and attentive the whole visit. I arrived a little bit earlier than my appointment and were able to accommodate me and got me into a pedicure chair about five minutes after I arrived. They had a very nice color selection as well. The negative: The quality of the work was not what I was expecting considering it's reviews and price tag. The photos are from 1 week and 1 day after the date of service. I had a regular pedicure, which was supposed to include cuticle removal, and I upgraded to get extra treatment for some dry skin on my heels and balls of my feet. Hardly any cuticle was removed, and there was almost none of the dead skin around the toes removed. After looking at the bottom of my feet after the upgrade treatment, I saw that it had not been smoothed out as they had with other pedicures I've gotten. Rather, I had bits of dead skin hanging off. A few of my toenails were not shaped correctly, including the big toe. The color is also sloppy and chipped, in spite of wearing loose closed toe shoes every day since the appointment. I had a gel manicure afterward, and experienced the same issues. Almost no cuticle removed, so my nails look ragged. The polish was applied too far out from the cuticle, so the manicure looked grown out from the start. The gel application was not good- extremely lumpy, sloppy, and uneven. When the technician was attempting to clean up the polish overrun, she used her own nails (which had dirt underneath them) instead of a brush with acetone or other nail tool, with would have provided a more precise line and saved time down the line in the manicure. The manicure is unfortunately also chipping. The work looked like I had done it at home rather than at a salon. The technician did ask if I was happy with the service, but I did not tell her I was not, as the salon was extremely busy and I was unwilling to have someone else's appointment pushed back because of me, nor was I willing to stay and have to try and defend my feedback and try to negotiate for a reduced rate. I paid $83, including tip, plus another $12 for parking after driving in about a half hour from Maryland. TLDR: Way too expensive for the poor quality. Will not be returning. read more

I had a great time in my experience at District Nails. I got my birthday nails done here, and recieved custom designs. They were super gentle with my nails when k got them done, which can sometimes be a pain in putting on SNS. I would recommend this place, however in my experience my cuticles were not taken care of, and my nails were done a little further away from the nail bed. This caused them to grow out quicker than I am used to. I would go back for the affordability and quality, but might ask for more specifics next time. read more

Even after changing their name from H St Nails to District Nails, they are still very racist and colorist! Don't honor appointment times and frequently take white women who are walk ins first (wait times are unfairly extremely longer) and ask black women for payment before service. Flat out racist and discriminatory actions that I've witnessed and experienced myself multiple times with pedi, mani, and eyebrow wax appointments. I also went back several times in hopes that my observations were wrong. They treat women of color awful compared to other clients. It's hurtful and astonishing to watch that it's still the same. Black people... go where your 'black tax' (working 4 times as hard to get the same or close to equal) and money are appreciated. Non people of color or non black women if you still pay for services here, you are just as guilty as District Nails in enabling your white privilege. Also, as a neighbor I would love to causally observe who enters and exits District Nails to know how you really feel about your black neighbors, especially in a gentrified neighborhood. Also, I'm not surprised to notice that most of the lower rated reviews are from black women on Google Reviews. It's too obvious! read more

A wonderful Sunday afternoon of pampering at District Nails today. This place is on the second floor, above Ethiopic Restaurant. I got a gel mani and pedi that came with thorough service, peaceful ambiance and even a mask, if need be. The mini massage/rub was heavenly and the gel selection was vast. All equipment used was sterilized and some items single use and discarded after every customer. The place was very clean with plexi glass placed between the technician and customer and everyone wore masks. Every alternate station was left empty to practice social distancing. Overall, my nails look great and I felt safe venturing out during the pandemic to get my nails done at this place. A must try for everyone in the area. read more

3 hours for the most mid gel mani pedi... they honored my reservation time no problem but Van painted my nails like she was painting the Mona Lisa and it does not show. each service took 90 minutes and same person did both and 3 hours for a gel mani pedi is just ridiculous. would have been better if they had at least offered me some water!
