The pedicure and manicure last with Dazzle nail polish. The nail polish is great if applied correctly by an experienced nail tech. I've had it applied and it chipped a few days later. I request the same nail tech and she knows how to apply the polish. She's great! Recently, I've been walking in to schedule my appointment and request a specific person. This week I made an adjustment in my schedule to make sure I was able to get an appointment. I came in on the confirmed time and day and the tech had not been informed she had any appointments. The flow was off and the front desk had not booked correctly from the previous weekend. I'm not sure what the process is but it's not a busy time of day and customers with a busy schedule should be informed if there are changes. The past few months the administrative flow in this salon has declined. The techs are doing their job but the flow is off (on slower times of the day too). I believe I may have found my new nail salon. I enjoyed everything about my experience here, from the booking to the check to the service. It was the perfect pamper-shesh start on my birthday. I appreciate how detailed the website is. You can learn about the team, view all of the services they offer, complimentary beverage options,etc. I LOVE that they give back to the community. Creating an account and booking an appointment was seamless. It made the checkout process very smooth. You can even tip on your card! I was seated quickly after arriving and picking out my polish. They have a great selection of non-toxic polishes. I received the saloon gel mani. True to their word, the price included all the "luxury" add-ons that you usually have to pay more at other salons. It included shaping, cuticle care, sugar scrub and a hot oil treatment. My nail tech handle my nails with care, even letting me know it may be painful as she said the cuticle care because she wanted to ensure they were in the best shape. I appreciate that they offer the nail file and buffer to you if you want them. The mimosa was delicious. The place is clean and modern. The only issue I had was one of my thumb nails started to chip the following day. I suspect it's because that nail took longer to dry than the others. Otherwise everything was good. I was a few minutes late for my service but the pedicure area was packed so I had to wait a few minutes. I didn't mind as check-in was easy and I grabbed a glass of lemon water. It appears they also have champagne, but I was there on my lunch break! I was happy to have a look around while I waited. I was asked to wash my hands before picking out a color which as a Germaphobe, I loved. The sink areas and polish area was clean. I picked out a color and felt there was not a incredible amount of colors or brands, but there were still plenty to choose from. I often find myself overwhelmed by too many options so I like that they narrowed it down for me. They do not have massage chairs, but the chairs were comfortable. They also did not have jets in the foot baths, but it was a comfortable temperature and roomy. I got a gel manicure with a very light blue and my manicurist was meticulous. I actually do my own nails because I hate how sloppy nail salons can be with painting and I'm a control freak. That being said, she cleaned up the polish, perfectly filed and buffed everything, and was very gentle. She was the best, I wish I had gotten her name today. I will absolutely be back. read more

This is my second time here. My nails look nice but the seating is incredibly uncomfortable. If you are above average height (I'm 5'8") and want to be comfortable this might not be the salon for you. The pedicure chairs are not the typical salon chairs that are easily adjustable. I usually have to maneuver my body in a very uncomfortable way which takes away from the relaxing experience. The manicure station is worse because you're basically sitting in dining room chairs with very little elbow room because clients are packed so closely together. Today was my first visit to Nailsaloon. This location is at Eastern Market so very convenient if you walk or ride Metro. Parking was a little rough. I made an appt (for a Saturday) so I am not sure of their availability if you have no appointment. I got a pedicure and I am very happy with my experience. The tools, pedi bowls, and establishment are clean/sanitized so I was very happy to see that. I was trying to read my nail tech's wooden name tag and I think it said "Minjin". She was excellent and periodically asked me if the water temp was ok, if the massage pressure was ok, and helped me to find a good polish color after my initial choice was too sheer for my liking. The "saloon" has a good nail polish selection and the polishes don't contain some of the "bad" chemicals. At the end, they have you sit at the dry bar (no light/heater) to dry. The only thing that bothered me is that the pedicure bowls are TOOO close together. I probably wouldn't have noticed if the customer next to me wasn't coughing and clearing her throat the entire time!!! I will definitely come back, on a weekday and/or close to opening time. read more

Oh no. No, no, no, no, noooooooo. It's so weird that I stepped inside the shop, or I guess saloon, and instantly didn't want to get nail services here. Just a gut feeling of "no". Now, the service is nice from the people who takes your money and receives your appointments and the lady who brought us drinks. They have water, wine, mimosas, fresh made lattes, and sodas. Now, the lady who did my toes kept hurting me while cutting my cuticles. I would tell her that and she would say "ok" then go right back to doing the same thing. I was si glad when she put the stupid salt rub on my legs before massaging my legs for 30 seconds. Actually, from now on I'm not getting more than basic services because all the oils and scrubs I can do myself. So I also got my eyebrows waxed and I told the lady I just need a clean up because I like my eyebrows thick and shapely.......like me ;) However, she did what she wanted. Now I got to let my eyebrows grow back out. Pfft! Now the final straw is my sister got a manicure and they put something on them called razzle dazzle or something that makes it dry quick in 5-10 minutes. We waited more than that amount of time to make sure her nails were dry. When we tested it it was dry. That night we were leaving to go to the airport to go to Europe. While bringing down her suitcase she noticed that SEVERAL nails had chipped on BOT H hands. She called and they told her to come in. My sister said she couldn't because we were catching a flight but she took a picture and she is also a returning customer. So then she offered her $15 which is what I tipped the lady who did her nails since I paid for everyone. So no big whoop. They should have told her they would make it right when she comes back. I've been coming to Nailsaloon for a while and I'm really glad the Capitol Hill location opened a few years ago. This location is much smaller than the Logan Circle location but they still make good use of the space. Unfortunately though, it's always packed no matter what time you come. I've yet to find a low-traffic time to visit. They take cleanliness very serious here, which is important with all of these different viruses popping up lately. All of the tools are single-use and they add plastic over the bowls before each use. The technicians I've experienced so far have all done a great job, though a little longer foot massage would be great. I find myself falling asleep during my manicures everytime. So far, my nails haven't chipped quickly and my manicures typically last a week. Sometimes the polish does darken after a while but I suspect it's some product I'm using at home that I have yet to figure out. Love that they offer water, tea, coffee, wine, and beer. They're also very generous with their beverages unlike other places. My only negative is that sometimes the receptionist isn't paying attention to the customers and seems to be a bit distracted. I reallllly want to leave a good review but someone has to say it - the gel manicures NEVER last. I'm so serious. I tried at least 5-10 times because I loved the ambiance, drinks, cleanliness. But every single manicure I have had ended up chipping in 3 days. It also REALLY matters who does your manicure. Mako is top tier but some other techs have given me some not-great looking manicures with way too many layers of gel. Some pros: - free drinks with service - gel pedi lasts every time - clean (extremely slippery floors so be careful) - good refunds if nail polish chips or something is wrong, they want to make it right! Bella, the woman who provided my Brazilian waxing service didn't listen to what I wanted, mistakes happen and I still got waxed. I'm ok with that. The overall experience was rated 2 stars due to the woman at the front desk (not sure of her name) asked me how my service was, when I responded that I wasn't fully happy. She said nothing to me, didn't ask what happened or anything. Finally, I asked her did you not hear me when I said my service wasn't great and she said ohhh...I'm sorry. That is horrible the way I was treated by the receptionist. My preference would've been her asking if there was anything she could do or saying thank you for your feedback, I'll be sure to let management know, and/or follow up with the woman who performed my service. read more

These folks can be iffy. I was having one of those days and the person at the front desk asked everyone except me if they wanted a beverage. When I brought it to their attention, the person got an attitude with me. Really?!?! Believe it or not nail treatments are discretionary kinda like cupcakes. When you go everybody should be happy!! What I know is that most service businesses keep notes on customers (ask Uber). So whenever I go in it feels like I get the side eye. Why do I go? Convenience...but that's going to go away when I move. So my thought is why not secure the deal and make it hard for the customer to leave be nice to everybody ...it pays off! read more

UPDATE 1/25/20: I am updating my review and stars to inform of what has taken place since I posted the original review. To say Andrea and her team have provided customer service would be an understatement. They have gone above an beyond to make sure I have bee taken care of to include refunding me the cost of my service, attempting to gt my shoes cleaned by a cobbler and then when that was unsuccessful, buying me a new pair of shoes. I didn't expect any of that at all. Andrea even made sure to keep me updated about where the shoes were (there were a lot of hilarious goofs trying to get them to actually ship but that's another story for another time). Customer service is huge for me and so knowing that they value me would definitely make me go back--but with open toe shoes this time :-) Thank you Andrea & Claudia! Original review: Meh! I went in to get a manicure and pedicure, but had gel polish to remove first. The technician wrapped my fingertips in acetone and foil, which is standard but instead of waiting 5-10 minutes for the acetone to do it's work she started unwrapping the fingers on my right hand as soon as she finished wrapping the left and chipped the gel polish off. She damaged my nails while doing it, and the end result was three broken nails on my right hand 2 days later. I had to cut them down almost to the quick because they're that broken. The technician was great and my mani lasted (with no chips) until my nails grew out. I took a star off because the salon is tiny and felt very crowded. I was jammed up against the client next to me. Phenomenal, thorough and comfortable experience from top to bottom. This place is spotless and a deeply relaxing environment with great music-not too loud-no tvs and no horrid chemical smells. I got one nail fixed, and another chipped the next day and the polish is starting to peel up on a few others. I was told they couldn't get me in to fix it until Monday, when I'm leaving for a work trip. I've been here multiple times now, and love the convenient location and atmosphere. But I cannot justify spending money on manicures that don't last. This week, I had a dazzle dry manicure, and it lasted not even 24 hours before chipping (when it's supposed to last longer than traditional polish). It's not just the polish that was a problem though -- my nails were not filed properly and are still jagged. These photos are from two days after the service. When I left the "saloon," I had bubbles on multiple fingers, and they offered to have me come back to fix it. Now, it's not worth going back since the whole manicure needs to be redone. Came here for the first time after a friend recommended it. Great experience, will definitely be back! Location/Parking: Capitol Hill, I went in the middle of a weekday so had no trouble finding street parking nearby. Street parking might be more difficult during busier times, but it is close to the Eastern Market metro station and there is a parking garage directly across the street. Service: Excellent. I booked my appointment for a regular mani/pedi online, they do require a credit card to secure the reservation. The space is very clean, and well organized. One of the first things I noticed was that it didn't have an overwhelming chemical smell, like most nail salons. They offer regular and gel mani/pedis, with a large selection of polishes. The salon is 5+ free (meaning they have polish without Dibutyl Phthalate, Toluene, Formaldehyde, Resin or Camphor; that also means they don't offer dip powder, acrylic, etc). Honestly, I've never been one to care much about "low-tox" but after coming here I don't think I can go back to a regular salon! Whoever designed this salon did an amazing job - they thought about so many little things: for example, they have cute little ring dishes at each manicure station; they check if you've shaved your legs in the past 24 hours before doing a salt scrub...so smart, because salt scrubs can burn if you have freshly shaved legs! Overall, I was very impressed. They were busy, but it didn't feel chaotic in the salon. I will be back!! read more

I decided the best Valentine's Day present this year would be a pedicure and I wanted to try a new location close to me. I called for a same day appointment and the receptionist booked me for that afternoon. I arrived a couple minutes before my appointment time and gave my name. I was told my technician was finishing up with another person so I could take my time browsing the colors. After picking up almost every bottle I decided on a pretty standard red and grabbed a stool by the window. The wait was a bit longer than expected but the receptionist came to offer me a drink which was definitely a great mood booster! My drink and seat for a pedicure were ready at the same time. Now I will say although the space is beautifully decorated I was definitely missing the standard massage chair you'll find at other salons. The pedicure stations had a row of low-back brown arm chairs with pillows. And although the boozy cocktail helped me relax I would have loved to lean my head back as well. I also wonder about accessibility of the chairs being up two high steps and size issues for other patrons. A huge bonus though is the care and attention the technician gives, She asked if I preferred my nails cut or filed and what shape. The scrub and oil massage were also really wonderful. And she took her time applying the nail polish. It's great the space doesn't have any stinky fumes like some other salons have. There were also a couple under 15 year olds there getting pedicures along with their parents. I think it's a really cool idea for a salon to give kids a custom pampering experience as well.
