From the beautifully curated setup to the thoughtful touches--balloons, champagne, mimosas, strawberry lemonade, sparkling water, tea, and an incredible spread of light bites (charcuterie, vegetables, fruit, nuts, and strawberry shortcake)--everything was executed flawlessly. The experience felt incredibly exclusive, almost like I had the entire spa to myself and my guests. Antonio, the owner, greeted us personally and ensured we received white glove treatment from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. I genuinely felt like a queen celebrating such a special milestone. When I walked into the lounge and saw the setup, I was overwhelmed--in the best way. I actually cried. The robes, slippers, added seating, and overall décor were stunning. Every detail felt intentional and elevated. My massage with Brenda was phenomenal. She worked out tension I didn't even realize I was carrying, and her nurturing, calming energy made the experience even more special. I left feeling relaxed, cared for, and completely restored. I'll absolutely be booking with her again--and I'm already planning to return for a facial with Ruby. I have another appointment later this week since my massage therapist back home said to wait 5-7 days if you're getting a massage for a targeted area/for muscle pain, but I will definitely come here again! Another Yelper said $115/60 mins is great for Navy Yard, and while I think I could find less elsewhere, Agnes was worth it and I cant wait to go again. I felt immediate relief in my shoulder, and she even worked out knots in my lower back. She provided a full body massage (head, neck, shoulders, back, lower back, glutes, legs) and I left feeling like a new person.

You can easily stay 3-4 hours, I always do! Cons: Parking: I love to just uber here and stay the night but if I don't, the con, parking is crazy! If you're using their spa you can valet for $35 for up to 3 hours! Sign me up, cause the garages are confusing and it's almost the same price for a couple of hours. Relaxation area: The relaxation area is in a common area not secluded from guests. It's not intimate. Gessika was perfect. My facial with her was fantastic. Wallace is my go to for massages. They have a new guy that is highly recommended, may have to try him next time! The price for services do not include gratuity but they do add on 22%. 18% goes to the person who assists you. There is a sign on the counter that says there is a $5 charge for paying with credit card, but thankfully they did not charge us that. The place is very barebones, like the service. They have about 6 massage rooms. We were the only ones there, and I got the impression there was only more than one staff person there because we booked in advance. I'm not sure how long this place has been in Eastern Market, but we love a spot that isn't too far away. First off, the place itself is really cute and welcoming. They have tea and what looked like a Keurig setup where you can make yourself something, plus water available when you're finished. More importantly, everything was CLEAN. The rooms smelled clean, the materials and linens looked clean, and the surrounding spaces were well kept. That's important to me, especially when you're getting a service like a massage. I mainly came in to alleviate some gym soreness and, of course, the general tension of adulthood. Li was my massage therapist, and I didn't know what to expect, but there was a lot about her technique that stood out. First, the work she did around my ankles. I get massages pretty regularly and genuinely don't remember anyone successfully focusing on that area the way she did. I didn't even realize how much tension I had there until she started working it out. Second, the glutes! The attention, pressure, and techniques she used on my glute muscles were everything. I've never had someone spend that much intentional time working those muscles and releasing that much tension. That alone had me feeling noticeably better afterward. Third was the stretching. I mentioned having a lot of tightness in my hips, and Li understood the assignment. Hip stretches, arms, neck, back, all of it. She pushed me in a good way and had me feeling much more limber by the end. She also found the knots around my scapula and gave my lower back the attention it needed. As someone who gets massages often enough to compare techniques, I could tell there was experience and knowledge behind what she was doing. I booked the 90 minute massage and added magnesium, which was a perfect addition. Those 90 minutes FLEW by. I also loved that the stretching wasn't just a quick add on. It was really incorporated into the massage, which makes the "Bodyworks" part of the name make perfect sense. I like firm pressure, and Li kept that pressure consistent throughout the entire massage. That matters! The only thing I would've added was more attention to the fingers and toes, especially pressure point work, stretching, and gently pulling each digit. Those areas can hold more tension than you realize-I love pressure point work and stretching in those areas, so having each finger and toe worked, stretched, or gently pulled would have been the icing on the cake. I actually found myself wanting to crack and stretch them afterward. Aside from that, this massage did exactly what I came for. I wanted to leave feeling stretched out, less tense, and more mobile, and mission accomplished. They're also looking to get more exposure right now, so check online or call the shop and ask about their current promotions because there are definitely deals to be found. Parking wasn't too crazy either. I went on a Wednesday afternoon and found parking without much trouble. Eastern Market can vary depending on the day and time, but it was pretty easy for me. I definitely recommend Soothe & Bodyworks, and Li, you did your thing. I will absolutely be back. A bonus that it's black owned and woman owned yes!

I went to see Erica at Bang Salon in Navy Yard -- my first visit to a salon in 5 months since COVID hit. I had resorted to coloring my hair myself when things were shut down but hadn't had a haircut in months and was feeling extra shaggy. My hair color was looking pretty one dimensional and blah and Erica gave me some amazing balayage highlights and a great cut as well. I highly recommend Erica -- In addition to being a great stylist, she is friendly and attentive and really cares about her clients. I'm super excited about my new salon and my new stylist! And also, the salon takes all necessary precautions to protect clients and staff from COVID. Not once did I feel at risk of exposure. Great job by all! read more

Absolutely love this place. I am in town every few months for work and really struggled to find a friendly, great place to fix my hair before I head out of country again. Today Sophia did a wash cut and blow dry and I love it. The other stylists said she often forgets to show up to appointments in the DC salon. When I questioned about why she did not show, she blamed me for going to the wrong salon even though I had the text messages showing what had been agreed to. I have also experienced standing outside the salon for two hours because she was late opening and her assistants did not have the key. Two other friends have also stopped going to the salon due to Selam's lack of basic customer service and also experienced Selam being a no show. I would give zero stars if I could.

I asked the stylist to cut about three inches (I showed what I meant by 3 inches with my fingers), and asked for long layers. I ended up with a very short blunt cut that is essentially shoulder length. It is not flattering and there's not much I can do to fix it; I will just need to wait for it to grow. I certainly will not be back.

Her hair looked great, so I decided to give it a go and booked an appointment with the same person. I was skeptical that enough time had been allotted for my appointment, so I called to ask if I needed to come earlier or more time needed to be set aside, but they assured my my stylist was experienced and someone else could always dry my hair if needed (which was totally fine with me). The stylist and I had a conversation about what I wanted my hair to look like (really just a touch up, partial foil, not too cool) and then he got to work. They put me under the dryer while my hair processed, which no one had ever done before. I assume to speed things up? As predicted, my stylist ran out of time, so another stylist had to dry my hair. As she began drying the front pieces, I realized that my hair was not looking as I had hoped. It was WAY too cool-toned (platinum) for my skin tone, and there was a harsh line about a quarter in from my scalp. It was blended beautifully from side-to-side, with no stripiness whatsoever, but it looked like it had already grown out and I hadn't even left yet. The stylist who was drying my hair was extremely kind and understanding, and ended up putting a toner on it to help blend the roots. My hair ended up being darker than I would normally prefer (we swung from one end to the other!) but at least it didn't look terrible and would hopefully grow out okay. The manager was also very nice and understanding, and she (1) did not charge me for any of the extra services, (2) took a bit off my total, and (3) gave me several sample products. They did the best they could. I considered going back and seeing the stylist who attempted to fix my hair, as she would have really understood what I was looking for and seemed competent, but I was embarrassed to run into my original stylist again, particularly as he was the owner of the salon. I ended up going somewhere else just six weeks later (which is WAY sooner than I normally go--I'm a 3-4x a year person, but it had grown out pretty bad already), and was much happier with their results.

I've brought my niece here twice and I received services for the first time this week. Walking into the salon, a flight of stairs greet you. They are narrow but once you get up them, you are greeted by friendly faces. You will be asked to wash your hands first and have a seat. The wait can vary. I waited for about 15 minutes and then my stylist, Jo, began to wash my hair. She was very detailed and knowledgeable about my hair. She also informed me that they did every style I could think of at the salon. Once my hair was washed, I received a hot oil treatment. Once the treatment was completed, my hair was soft and felt super healthy. Jo moisturized my hair and braided it. My hair was done in under two hours and as a black woman who has been in MANY salons on a regular basis, that is a short amount of time. Jo also did my niece's hair as well and it took an hour and a half. The first time my niece was serviced here, she was served my Rochelle and her hair came out nicely and she was out in 90 minutes as well. Go see Jo and Rochelle!

She also listened to my concerns and gave me advice on at-home hair care. I feel so good knowing my hair wasn't beyond repair. Chelsea was wonderful and too the time to ask about my expectations and goals with my hair. I never felt as though I was being sold products, but took her recommendation for a deep conditioning treatment. My treatment and haircut are exactly what I needed, it looks great!
