Aura Spa is a quality spa inside the Vida Fitness in Navy Yard without breaking the bank. Here's why I enjoyed it: 1) Location: It's inside the Vida Fitness in Navy Yard. Check in at the gym front desk and head straight back through the door that says "Aura Spa." There's street and garage parking nearby and a metro only blocks away. 2) Price: For a 60-minute quality massage in a nice environment, it only cost $115 not including tip. For this area, that's not bad. 3) Experience: It was a great experience. They made sure you stay hydrated, don't make you wait, and don't talk to you during the massage so you can relax. read more

Let me preface by saying there are two entrances to VIDA fitness, one facing 4th Street SE, and the main doors/entrance where the spa is, faces Tingey Street SE (basically just around the corner!). See photo attached for entrance to the spa. I came here because I pulled my shoulder and it hurt to bend, turn, lay down, sit up, and basically everything else. I saw Agnes and she was amazing. She was attentive and gentle but still got the job done. The inside was so calm, and the ambience was relaxing and chill. I definitely felt pampered. I scheduled my appointment last night and was able to get in today. I have another appointment later this week since my massage therapist back home said to wait 5-7 days if you're getting a massage for a targeted area/for muscle pain, but I will definitely come here again! Another Yelper said $115/60 mins is great for Navy Yard, and while I think I could find less elsewhere, Agnes was worth it and I cant wait to go again. I felt immediate relief in my shoulder, and she even worked out knots in my lower back. She provided a full body massage (head, neck, shoulders, back, lower back, glutes, legs) and I left feeling like a new person. read more

I have consistently wonderful services at Aura. It's so easy to schedule an appointment online, even last minute. Don't be scared away by the noisy Vida entrance, once you step into the Aura area, it's incredibly serene. Recently I had a wonderful massage with Taneisha. I came in after sustaining an injury and could barely turn my head. With how much pain I was in, it was great to be able to schedule a 1pm appointment on a weekend that same morning. By the time I left, she had worked out all the kinks! She even gave me extra time after my appointment, which I really appreciated. I cannot say enough good things about Toni Moseley! Do your skin a favor and get a facial from her. She was a great listener while I was discussing my skin concerns and routine. My skin was absolutely glowing after 45 minutes with her. One of the best ways to spend Valentine's Day is getting pampered with the one you love. After a thorough search, Aura Spa at The Yards seemed like the perfect location. Mostly because it is new, clean, and modern. Other Aura locations in the District were highly reviewed so I thought I'd give this one a shot. About 2 weeks before V-day, I booked a couples massage that included complimentary champagne and strawberries. Staff and massage therapists were friendly and made scheduling a breeze. The actual experience was wonderful and relaxing. We were offered champagne with strawberries and detox water while we sat in their very small waiting area. Not long after that, we were greeted by Sheena and Kiah. Both of them were so welcoming and focused on us enjoying our massage. They made sure that we were comfortable during the whole thing. It felt like my muscles were being thoroughly worked not prodded and manipulated like some bad massage experiences of the past. This was a true hour long refreshing massage. Kiah is truly professional and adapted well to my problem areas. We opted out of the sugar scrub and sauna simply because we did not have the time to enjoy it. *Quality massage in a relaxed environment *This Aura Spa location is in The Yards SE DC. Codie Carter Provides a 5 Star Ritz Carlton Massage Experience without the $200+ massage prices. When you ask for a deep tissue massage from Codie, he provides a consistent and quality deep tissue massage throughout the entire massage. Unlike your basic massage places that just go through the massage motions, Codie's numerous years of experience allows him to instinctively feel and identify the knots in your body and work them until it releases. Furthermore, Codie is trained in the subtle art of cupping (Think Michael Phelps back in Rio where he had circle marks on his back). I was skeptical at first, BUT instead of putting pressure on the knots, the cups work to release the knots by pulling on it. I don't know about you, but I felt AMAZING after the session. I was able to stretch and bend and get a wider range of motion as compared to before the massage. Moreover, instead of 2 hands massaging you, it felt like there were 4 hands (Pair of Hands and Pair of Cups) massaging me all at once. I think he only does cupping on request. SOOO ... ask for it and try it out, you won't be disappointed. I've had a few massages with Codie already and he will be my go to massage therapist on a consistent monthly basis. The rating hasn't changed but thought I'd let you guys know I received a call from Aura Spa on 6/2/2017. I was at a rehersal for my brothers' wedding that weekend in Utah. I believe it was Jamillah who called and she asked if she could speak with me regarding my recent visit. I told her that I was not able to speak at the moment since I was at rehersal and I asked if she could call back on Monday. She said well, I'm not in on Monday. Next time I'm in is Wednesday (6/7/2017). I said Wednesday would be fine for a call. She told me she would call me then. It is now Monday, 6/19/2017 and I still have not had anyone call me back. Also, would like to point out that when I was called on June 2nd, it over a full month since my experience with Aura Spa. Clearly, customer satisfaction is not a priority for this establishment. Horrendous service. After receiving an email promotion, I booked and pre-paid for 2 surprise spa services for my husband on Father's Day. After his appointment, I learned that he only received one of the two and that was rushed and subpar at best. I reached out to Aura's management multiple times (Nancy and Antoine), via phone and email, to have the error corrected and my card refunded for the service that was not provided. No one would answer the phone or return my calls/emails, and during my last point of contact, I was informed by the gym that "they don't have a phone back there and they can't return my call right now because they're having a party." I finally had to call the U St. location and their lovely manager was apologetic and immediately refunded me. Beyond that, they promoted a Father's Day bourbon special that employees knew nothing about/didn't provide and the massage itself was awful. I cannot overstate my assertion that we will NEVER visit this establishment again. This is what I get for cheating on my go to, Mandarin Oriental. read more

I had an amazing experience at this Aura Spa location. I was taking my mother to celebrate her 50th birthday, and wanted to do something a little more upscale for the special occasion. When we got there, my massage therapist was not available but the manager Codie was completely helpful and apologetic for the mishap and rescheduled me right away for the following Sunday. My mother had Maureen as her therapist and said it was completely relaxing, and she was really good at what she does. On my return, I had Codie as my massage therapist. He was great, I workout a lot and he was very attentive to the knots and sore areas during my massage. It was very relaxing and he didn't mind me asking questions on how to loosen my muscles better. My mother and I, had Yara for our waxes and she was very personable! My mother loved her service, and I felt like she really cared through my shocking pain. We will definitely be returning to Aura Spa in the near future,we've already set our next appointments! read more

Not sure why I've waited so long to make (and keep) appointments to experience an Aura Spa massage, but I must say it was soooooo worth the wait and I CAN'T WAIT to go back to The Yards location and see this masseuse of a man, Codie --with the fabulously magic, healing hands, again!! Everything was "just right" -like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. I tasted the porridge, sat in the chair and slept in the bed and it was ALL "just right". Not too hard, not too soft, (not TOO expensive ;) but "just right". It was long enough, it was short enough. It was the right vibe. Relaxing. Easy and beyond thorough. From start to finish, Codie asked AND attended to everything I thought I needed (thoracic cavity work) and found some areas that I didn't even know I needed, until he found them. Had a massage scheduled and Kelly, the therapist failed to show up. They did not inform me until 15 minutes after the massage was scheduled to start. Codie called me the next day offering 25 percent off, which is absurd given the inconvenience. Their policy is that if a client does not show up then the client pays full rate, the offer of 25 percent is insulting. Looking at other reviews it seems that they lack the ability to schedule appropriately. read more

What a disappointment. Booked a massage with Codie Carter for 1:30 pm today. Showed up on time and finally 30 minutes later I went to the front desk and asked for the reason for the delay. I was told he was with a client and should be out soon. Another staff member slid a note under the door to which he responded his current client had booked a later appointment but thought she had the 1:30 time slot. Knowing he was double booked he made no effort to contact me to let me know of the problem so that I could try to make other arrangements. Total lack of professionalism. These people required a credit card number to hold the appointment and yet could not take the time to do the right thing. I want to thank this Codie person for wasting my time. I came here for a Brazilian and a facial. Overall: this place felt shockingly dirty and low quality. Not at all spa like and more like a back room at a walk in nail salon. My aesthetician was nice enough, but she had just shown up at the time of my appointments and was carrying her purse around with her. Very weird. It made me feel like she just runs in for appointments which didn't instill a very professional feeling. She talked throughout the entire appointment. I enjoy some conversation, especially during the wax, but this woman chewed my ear off. Way too much, and wouldn't take a hint to stop. She took me into the room and I immediately saw reddish/brown stains on white sheets and blanket covering the table. She noticed my face and before I could even asked she apologized for the stains and explained that it's the 'chocolate wax' they use and that they should be getting new darker sheets that don't show the stains from the wax soon. I saw the wax was brown and while I was grossed out, proceeded bc I was desperate for a wax before my vacation. The wax: terrible. I have fine hair that's very easy to wax and never get bumps. I've been getting regular waxes for a yr now so I know what should/shouldn't happen. They only use soft wax, which I find more painful and less efficient than hard wax. It was also very warm, nice for spreading but not effective. This was the fastest wax I ever received, didn't really do the full Brazilian (back side) and left a ton of hair (long and short) and She did zero tweezing after. I ended up having to use tweezers a razor when I got home since unfortunately I didn't notice what a terrible job was done while I was there. Facial: the products are so intense I couldn't even get it. I don't remember what the name of the products are but they burned my skin. I just wanted a cleansing facial. I explained I have mildly sensitive skin and do very light chemical exfoliation every night. She kept trying to up sell me a peel that I didn't want since I was going on a beach vacation the next day. I finally gave in because she literally wouldn't shut up and desperately wanted to relax after a very painful wax. During her badgering about the peel she wiped down my face and put the steamer on me. After the steamer she started putting something on my skin that started burning. It was a warm tingle at first that quickly turned into a must put my face in an ice bucket burning sensation. Thankfully she responded very quickly, she wiped it off and gave me a cold compress. She insisted it was just the cleanser, that she had not even started any masks or the peel. She suggested we not move forward, clearly worried over the burning I felt. That was literally my only positive experience - her concern over having burned my face. I thought it was weird to cleanse after steaming and what on earth kind of cleanser are you using in sensitive skin that burns like that?! Also- basically forcing a chemical peel on someone who had no business getting one- just so unprofessional. Clearly this woman had no idea what she was doing. Luckily I was able to get home right away and iced my face for a while and put a good moisturizer on and the redness was gone by the next day. Sorry for the super long review but when you trust your skin to someone I think it's important to know what you're getting yourself into. These people have no idea what they're doing and this place has no business calling itself a spa. Just avoid this place at all costs. read more

"Massage therapist" really doesn't do him justice: over a number of years, he has studied a variety of bodywork techniques that he expertly combines into an experience it's hard to define: yes, there's some massage and some NKT and whatever, but it's more. While my aesthetician Brittany was very talented and excellent overall, I will not be returning to this spa because this is the second time a significant error was made in my booking and redemption process. When making my appointment I made clear I was booking a facial for the credit that was on my account (from the 300$ membership joining fee I was given a credit for a facial and a massage). Then, when checking out, I was told my balance was 85$. I was told that my credit was actually for a 45 minute massage and not a 75 minute one. No one chose to inform me of this fact beforehand, neither the person I booked with on the phone or the spa manager I emailed to confirm that it was the right facial I booked when the confirmation email said "75 minute men's facial". In fact, the spa never responded to said email at all. When I had redeemed my massage credit a few months prior, I made it clear but on my online account and in person that I wanted a female masseuse. When I showed up for my appointment, I realized my masseuse was male. With the option of losing my credit due to late cancellation I just dealt with it, assuming this was just a one time accident. After my experience with my facial, I have had one negative experience too many and wouldn't recommend this spa to anyone looking to have a peaceful spa process all around. read more

I had a Gilt City voucher for a 45-minute massage - it was excellent! Some notes: 1) The booking process was a breeze. I had to reschedule, and it was incredibly easy. The gentleman that answered the phone both times was super nice and easy to work with. 2) The space is very serene, located in the back of the first floor of Vida. 3) I arrived early (as suggested by the confirmation email I received) so that I could enjoy the sauna and/or steam room. The only very slight misstep is that my early arrival seemed to catch the team off-guard. Angela was still setting up the space as I walked in. She was gracious and lovely though. It was just... awkward. I wouldn't have come 20 minutes early if it hadn't been explicitly recommended by Aura via email. 4) The steam room was AMAZING. Holy lord. On a freezing day like today, it was such a treat to feel like I was in DC in July for 10 minutes. 5) The massage! Was! Fantastic! I have been to Aura Navy Yard and had deep tissue massages with both Christopher and Kiah. Both are fantastic.
