I had the worst hair coloring and blow drying experience I've ever had with Grayson. I came in with very blonde hair and asked for my roots to be dyed blonde to match. After over 6 hours, I left with completely orange/white hair. As you can see, my hair is now completely fried and the blowout looks like I air dried it. read more

I have been coming to PR at Partners Salon on and off since I moved to the DC area, for 7 years. Currently Rhonda does my hair (short cuts and highlights) every 5 weeks or so. She does a great job and is spot on with her recommendations. She's also very entertaining to talk to for the time I'm in the chair. I look forward to my visit every time. I had the worst experience at this salon. I got my hair cut by Suemi, and told her that I wanted to get my layers refreshed and bangs cut. I have wavy hair that I barely need to style, I just let it air dry and it waves up beautifully. Suemi used texturizing scissors and severely thinned out my already thin hair, and completely ruined my wave pattern. I'm attaching a before and after picture below. The before was taken 2 days before my haircut. I did the same hair routine both days, and the difference is horrible. Winston Thompson is a mediocre white hairstylist who overcharges for haircutting and hair-coloring services. Plus, he only services white women and non-Black women with hair that falls below their shoulders, so you and I both know what his esthetics is: white and non-Black women with long, flowing hair. If a Black person ever comes into the salon requesting a service, Winston and his non-knowledgeable assistant, Kat, wouldn't know what to do or where to start at and the Black customer would feel extremely uncomfortable by their blank stare and walk quickly out of the building. To be completely transparent, majority of the staff at PR at Partners in downtown DC are only comfortable with doing white and non-Black hair, so if you have curly or extra curly hair, then steer clear of this salon at all costs. read more

I've known Karen for a while and have gone to her for many of my hair cuts. She has a way of making you feel amazing and comfortable in your own hair. She listens to what you're looking for and offers suggestions to make sure you are happy with the outcome. The salon is locating in the heart of all the great places in DC. Parking isn't great, but what else can you expect in the city. You may get lucky finding free street parking on the weekend, or you can use some of the local garages. The salon itself is modern and pretty simple. They offer free coffee, tea and water and have a variety of hair products you can purchase. They keep it pretty clean and tidy; there's always someone making sure hair is swept up. Karen does amazing with straighter/fine, wavy hair, but I have let her experiment with my curls and my daughter's as well. She is a kerastase embassador and does amazing with color using various methods. I had dry ends and some of my strands were so stubborn. We went a bit shorter than I wanted to, but it was necessary. My daughter was super happy with her cut and all I can say is my curls have amazing coil and bounce. She did a great job! read more

I have gone here for a Rezo cut twice with Sarah Richards. I have dry, mixed wavy and curly hair. My first experience was very positive, getting tips on how to style my hair and purchasing the products recommended to me- Innersense. While I worked on the routine I was told about, I noticed something very quickly. My scalp felt awful, all the time. No matter how many times I rinsed my hair, build up would never all come out, even with a good clarifying shampoo. My hair was shedding more and more. I come to my second appointment and Sarah was fairly condescending, asking how often I used my clarifying shampoo (once every other week as instructed) and then often commented on how thirsty my hair was. I left the salon with my scalp burning and it later was red. It wasn't until after this experience that I learned about low porosity hair. Low porosity hair has a hard time absorbing product and needs heat to do so. It also makes hair prone to protein overload, causing dryness and breakage. You're not supposed to use products with protein on low porosity hair. Innersense has silk protein in it. I swapped new products and suddenly my scalp was brand new. I didn't have to rinse multiple times. It's still sensitive, months later, but getting better. My hair is shedding less. It's not as frizzy, it's softer, and it holds its curls better. My scalp no longer burns. My hair's growing back. This was something I figured out on my own, and the expensive hair expert with PR at Partners apparently didn't know to factor in the hair type with the service and products. If you have low porosity hair, I do not recommend Sarah Richards at this salon or StyledbySarahRichards.com and stop using products with protein immediately. I am appreciative that she taught me basic styling techniques, which is the only reason why i give 2 stars. Now to find a new curly hair dresser that knows what porosity is read more

Absolutely staggered by what a rip off this was. Dropped my teen daughter off for balayage. (Note: I've been getting highlights and balayage for over 30 years. I know what it costs). My daughter emerged with perfectly average highlights and a bill for $450. Apparently they charged $375 for balayage though the most expensive price they show online is $250, and an extra $75 for a toner and conditioner they didn't even ask her about (conditioner was wildly unnecessary...she has super healthy, unprocessed hair.) read more

Damari did an amazing job fixing a butchered haircut I got somewhere else. She took the time to listen to what I didn't like about the haircut and focused on fixing the issues. She also dealt with my ridiculously thick hair by thinning it out at the bottom as I suggested, with many meticulous rounds of slicing. I had Claudia as my last hair stylist. I really needed only a trim for my thick, Asian hair. She knew how to deal with it and provide the right products that will keep the flyaways at bay and the ends moisturized. I do feel however the hair washing was very rushed the both times that I've gone - would've been nice if they spent a little bit more time focusing on the hair wash because many people that I know look forward to that part- so in a sense I did feel a little jipped on that part; however the woman who washed my hair was very nice. Great staff, cool ambiance, good quality products. I think anyone trying to find someone for a trim will be satisfied with anyone especially if you're on a budget. read more

My appointment was scheduled for 12:45pm. I made the appointment online and was asked for a credit card to confirm and hold the reservation. I then received two text messages asking me for a confirmation. I walked to the salon from my hotel and didn't realize that it was much closer than I thought so I was early. Walking into the salon at 12:15 I let the front desk know that I knew I was early but was here - no rush! I was told to please wait in the waiting area. I should add I was the only person in the waiting area the entire time that I was in the salon. I then hear a woman say from the front desk and -- so loud that the salon could hear "well, she is just going to have to wait" At this point I felt like walking out but with a credit card on file and every salon booked I decided to wait - already not looking forward to this I then made a few phone calls and sent a few emails and realized that the time was 1:10. I asked the front desk how much longer they thought it would be. The front desk girl says "well,what time was your appointment? " Again I'm the only person in the waiting area--- "My appointment was scheduled for 12:45 and its 1:10." Normally this would not be irritating but after the outburst at the front desk I was annoyed The girl stepped away and asked my stylist how much longer she will be and she said "another 20 minutes. " Costumer service is really everything. I don't mind waiting at all but waiting after this comment was made was not happening. You can't ask for a credit card to hold and provide service and not deliver. You can't say whatever you want anytime and anyplace when you are in a customer service position. read more

I have been going here for years now, but only after scouring DC for someone who could handle my demands for creative color. There are at least 3 stylists on staff who are skilled in color, willing to do reds, purples, platinum blondes etc. The stylists here know how to consult with their clients, so if you want a more conservative look, no need to fear. I recommend Monica, Pat, Stacey. Minus: you must plan ahead, you will need an appointment for any of the senior stylists. Plus: so convenient to Metro Center subway station, you don't even have to go outside. Just exit towards the Arena, and use the Hotel exit. read more

I got a coupon for the salon and was in need of a stylist, so I decided to give PR at Partners a go. After reading excellent reviews, I made an appointment with Monica. My hair had not been cut in over a year and was pretty badly damaged, but Monica didn't shame me or even push products. She just executed my vision! I've gotten tons of compliments on the cut, and the best thing is that she cut it with room to grow into - I like it more and more each day! I'll very likely go back and see Monica again (and hopefully not wait a year this time!) Not factoring in the coupon, the cut was about $80 before tip with a shampoo and style (included). It was a little nutso in the salon the day I went - loud, and I did have to wait a bit - but I think a lot of folks were trying to squeeze in a cut before the Thanksgiving holiday. read more

I found the hairstylists snobby, inattentive, and sloppy. I had short hair at the time and a young man assigned to me as "the best with short hair" was surly and abrupt. He cut a hole in the side of my hair. Admittedly, when showed to the manager, they tried to compensate me and offered me further hair cuts. That worked for awhile, but eventually, I got assigned to another "expert with short hair" and had another hole cut. I do not recommend these callous, snobby, incompetent individuals, at least at the McLean shop. read more

The wonderful My Tran fixed my HORRIBLE dyed black hair about a year ago, and it's been lovely ever since. I'm writing the review now because I haven't dyed my hair since I went in and saw her, and I couldn't be more pleased with the way it's faded and matched my roots growing in. I just have to sing her praises. I went in there with hair that was almost indigo it was so dark, and left with a beautiful, rich, reddish-brown. Before making the appointment, I had told her my budget...and even though the process took around FIVE HOURS (way longer than either of us expected) and she added lighter pieces that weren't discussed before, and still honored what I said was my maximum price. First time alert!!!!! So, this is my first time here. Well. Actually, I've been here twice but it was with a friend while she got her hair done. Which turned out AMAZING! Let's start with the booking process. Receptionist was super friendly while answering my call about my appointment. They take down your full information down. Even text remind you about your upcoming appointment! Once we had arrived, we were greeted by the same girl I believe? Very friendly! Everyone was pretty friendly. Even my stylist stopped what she was doing to greet us! She introduced herself and her co workers. I came a bit early but no worries. My husband and I just sat in the waiting area while they served us some hot tea! Yum! My stylist came back over with her assistant and walked me through the process. Had a little consultation on what I am looking for. I am a washed out blonde, outgrown ombre and medium length. She explained to me it'll be a three step process to achieve the look I'm going for. Which is a more brighter blonde with a balayage. I understand there is always a process with color correction. Especially with blondes. So this process took in all about 6.5 hours. With all her hard work it really did pay off. Assistant was very helpful! She gave a great massage and blow out! Even gave me nice treatment for my hair! All in all. Definitely recommend this place! Maiya for President!! I follow her on IG and admire her style. We have similar curl patterns and her hair is always so cute, now is mine! Lol My first visit was back in July. I had been growing my hair out for about a year and I was over it. Maiya talked to me about what I was trying to achieve and she pulled off a short taper and we tried a dark brown color but it didn't lighten my hair much, no biggie. Yesterday, 9/2 I went back, I was a bit late, maybe 10 min but no biggie. I just moved to DC and in the rush to move across the country kind of never got my haircut. Which is awkward because now I'm interviewing for jobs and meeting new people and starting school and I know no one is but I just keep wondering if they're staring at my split ends. Plus it's hot as balls and humid so whatever "style" I can usually force my hair into is lost here. So I asked a few people I know here whose hair I think is great where they go and set up my first appointment with Jobi. Getting your haircut is scary, especially a new stylist. I have medium-length straight hair and everyone always has this idea that what I need, want, and secretly CRAVE is more volume. I mean I guess it'd be nice but I'd also like to lose 20 lbs and have a magic money tree: some things just aren't gonna happen overnight, you know? Anyway their next step is to cut these choppy layers and slop some product on it so I end up looking greasy and can never leave my hair straight, which is how it ends up no matter what you put in it, at the end of the day. Jobi didn't do that. He listened really carefullly, fixed some of the layers I already had from a previous haircut, and smoothed them out. He put minimal product on my hair and it looked felt like a pantene commercial afterwards. (Imagine a British man going, "Look at this shiine, this booounce!" and gently fondling my hair. It was that good.) He also didn't take off more than I asked. I wonder if some of the more negative reviewers were really upset with him or the fact that they all asked for really short hair. I've done it before and it's a huge shock to the system and you feel like a whole new person. It's existencial, really. Either that or he reads Yelp and corrected his taking too much approach. I'll definitely go back for hair cuts, and am contemplating having him color my hair as well because he did such an amazing job! read more

I have been a customer of My's for over 3.5 years. She's amazing. Truly talented and I trust her 100% with my hair. So much so that I followed her to the downtown location after closure of K street, though it is significantly less convenient for me. She went out of her way to fix a problem that occurred where I wasn't alerted of my appointment cancellation due to weather and really went above and beyond to rectify the situation. The blond highlights look perfect a day, a week, and even months later. Monica has seen me through long, two toned (blond and black), pixie, red and even curly, permed hair. I change my style a lot, and Moni seamlessly delivers the transition I'm seeking; it's as if she reads my mind, always giving me exactly what I want. I have been going to Monica for about 10 years now and she consistently makes me look and feel amazing. On a return visit, I noticed that the salon though relatively new is not very cleanly kept. There are too many "personal" items at the stations - one stylist even has a card that reads "God knows if you dont tip" (or something like that - HUH?! So when did tipping become an entitlement?!) The day I was there, the floor was not swept - there were hair strands everywhere. The counters were littered. I'd expect any respectable salon to clean up after each client's cut. There is no real place to leave your bag but on the dirty hair-covered floor. The magazines at the waiting area, though current were mostly torn and tattered. I guess I always had the earliest appointments so I never had to deal with the dirt. But really if you want to portray yourselves as a "better" salon, at least clean up! I would not come by if I did not like Bobby's cuts. But now that his prices have increased, I'd think twice just because the salon feels dirty to me now. read more

Definitely was disappointed with my apointment. My son went in for hair color and cut. For some reason they didn't schedule him for a cut so we waited an extra 3 hours just for the cut. Then the cut was mediocre. Shape up was off. Could have gotten a better cut at a regular old fashioned barbershop. The manager did decide not to charge for the cut. But after over 9 hours at the salon you would think the whole treatment should've been free especially since I had to pay extra for parking. The stylist Jana was the only bright spot. Karen did a lot to try and remedy my past experiences with this salon. It really is all about finding the right person. The advice I received from management was that if you want to party and love a crowded, high energy, vibe - come on a Friday or Saturday. If you're looking for a more relaxed, pampered, experience come on one of the slower days. Makes sense. Cut and color took 3 hours and 45 minutes this time around (better!). Made an appointment at the desk for 2 pm. Got there early, but didn't expect to be serviced. At 2:45 pm I got up and told the front desk I was leaving. I'm pretty sure my stylist was at the desk, and she smiled and said "I'm sorry" quite sarcastically, because clearly she didn't care to do my hair. Totally unprofessional. I'm extremely disappointed with my haircut. My haircut lasted probably 15 minutes - it wasn't just a trim, I asked to cut off at least 5 or 6 inches. I was also charged more than what was listed on the website for the stylist -the page said $70 and I was charged $86. The stylist cut off more than what I asked for and after 10 minutes of cutting she said she was going to get her blow dry tools. I asked if she was done with the haircut part and she said she likes to cut dry for part of it. But when she returned, she just blow dried my hair and it was over. I really rely on Yelp for my reviews of hair salons so I thought I'd pass my experience on, with the disclaimer that this haircut was in approximately summer 2015. My stylist was Elizabeth and I thought she was great and the cut was hip and great-looking. She did exactly what I asked for -- a professional haircut with a subtle undercut on one side so that I could hide it or show it off. If she is still there, I would definitely recommend using her. Unfortunately, I didn't return for reasons totally unrelated to Elizabeth. One was just cleanliness concerns -- the shampoo area was pretty dirty (hair clogged up in the sinks, etc.), and I couldn't imagine getting color done there. I also remember the reception service/scheduling being weird -- a few others have noted that a client arrived in the middle of their haircut, and I recall this happening for my appointment too which resulted in the whole thing running pretty late. The salon called me afterwards for feedback from a new client and I shared my experience honestly so I do hope that some things may have been improved. read more

Update: it's been 10 years and I still go to Monica. When I went to grad school in NYC I searched for a replacement and ended up just timing my visits back to DC for when I needed a haircut. Since they merged with the K street location they can be a bit of a zoo. A tip I may regret sharing: go on a Sunday. It's much quieter and they're always on time. I think I pay $80 for a regular haircut these days and she's worth it! Bonus points for having everyone's Venmo on a list by the front desk so you don't have to carry cash for tip. read more

After seeing my review the manager, Carrisa, contacted me. She was apologetic and sympathetic to my situation and offered a refund and a consultation on how I can style it while it grows out. I went in and she offered to soften my layers at no cost. Carrisa is a great manager and stylist who genuinely cared about trying to fix this for me. It did make me feel better. But my haircut for the most part is beyond repair. It's just going to have to grow out. I do appreciate the energy and time she put in, and that is the most a manager could do. She's also a great stylist, so I do recommend coming to her if you're coming in for a cut here You'll be in safe hands. read more

Do not recommend for new customers. I had requested *and confirmed* an appointment for balayage with a specific stylist weeks before the actual appointment. I am certain I had confirmed that my appointment was with this stylist, and my sister would also be getting her hair done with another stylist at the same time, so we ended up selecting a mid-afternoon appointment to accommodate both stylists' schedules. The day of the appointment, I am told by PR Partners that my appointment is with a different stylist and that the original person I made the appointment with is not accepting new customers at all. When I mentioned I was confirmed with the original stylist and complained to management I was offered a $20 off coupon and appointment with a much less experienced stylist, which is an offer I chose not to accept. I am highly disappointed as I came in from out of town to get my balayage done for the first time, and before the Thanksgiving holiday. I also took time off work to get the stylist I had originally requested and been promised, who was only available mid-afternoon. I refrain from posting negative reviews because I assume that my experience is the exception to the rule. When I called and told them what I wanted, they were so sweet and ensured that I was matched with a hairstylist based directly on what I was wanting for my hair.
