I've been to Ferro minimally 4 times in the past and booked in last night to an appointment today. Then I get a text asking for photos of my hair and my inspo pics. I explicitly stated I knew my hair would not get to the inspo pics today and that I had a special occasion I needed my hair done for next week. I got the reply you will read in the photo. Totally ignoring that I am not a new client. And also stating that Marco is focused on training new stylists. I requested to book with Marco. I was told he only takes select clients. I was informed he recommended I book with Adem. I asked the front desk staff why he had been recommended, as I did not see any reviews recommending him in Google or Yelp reviews (he's been at the salon for 2 years). I was told Marco recommend Adem, "Because he can give you your inspo look." CUT: I showed Adem two photos of the same cut. What I got was completely different than what I'd asked for. He had to redo it again, and again (a third time). It was closer to what I wanted by the third time, but much shorter than what I'd asked for. When I got home, I noticed pieces of hair that were longer than the rest on each side. Both sides are uneven. COLOR: I love the color, but when I got home I still see the same grays I had before getting it colored. We specifically talked about the importance of covering my grays. This is not the quality of work I expected from a high-end salon or stylist. Goodbye, $263.00. UPDATE: When I communicated the above to Adem his response was: "Sorry for the inconvenience but it's because of the miscommunication. Hope to see you soon:):):)." I responded: Adem, you tried to correct the cut twice. The correction should've looked great since you still had length to work with. There's just no excuse for such a poor outcome, with strands that are longer and poke out from the cut. It is so uneven. In addition, my grays did not get covered despite the great choice of color. I will not be returning. Even at the worst salon in San Francisco, I never experienced any of this over 2 decades. I will not be returning. read more

This is a long overdue review!! I'm happy I finally found my favorite stylist Walid here. I thought I had lost track of him and my hair was doomed forever!!!! However the universe answered my prayers. This was my first time at Ferro. I had a fantastic experience. Everyone was friendly and seemed to really know their stuff. I must say Ferro has a petty stylish crew. Dora, the assistant was adorable. Her vibe was friendly and kind. She made sure the water was perfect, it wasn't hot or too cold. Walid was the first stylist whom I trusted with a baylagye. As it's was really big commitment for me. He understood my fear of having damaged hair. He assured me when it was time for fall and winter, it would not be a problem for him to transition it to a darker balayage if needed. All while keeping my hair healthy and manageable. He continued to listen to my concerns. And discussed further and further options. He did another fantastic job!!! He checked on me throughout the service, making sure my hair was coming along ok. I contacted Ferro Salon to get a consultation re: color and cut. I completed the required form, and sent a picture. I called several days later to inquire where I was in the queue. The receptionist confirmed they'd received my inquiry but not a picture of me. I resent it. The receptionist told me either she or Sara would get back to me by COB Saturday. I never received a call back re: scheduling a color consultation with a specific stylist. To be fair, I did receive an email asking me if I had pictures of haircuts I liked, and I said no. The Ferro employee did not respond back. While the salon may be great colorists etc., their customer service seems to need some work. read more

Sigh...is it impossible to get a decent haircut in DC?? I keep trying different salons and keep leaving disappointed. Unfortunately this salon just did not deliver for me. First, let's start with the good. I was able to get an appointment on a holiday/weekend, so I didn't have to take time off work. The online appointment system was odd because I basically had to submit a preference form and the salon then booked me a day later but no big deal. I also thought my stylist, Wes, was really easygoing and paid attention to detail. The salon uses Kerastase and Unite products, which are pretty universally friendly. However, I ultimately felt that my cut was less than mediocre, especially for the $200 price and the 2+ hours it took. I won't lay out every issue I had, but I'll point out some reasons why I wouldn't recommend this place. First, I really didn't appreciate the delay. I showed up on time but waited 20 minutes to get into a chair. It then took way too long to cut and style my hair. Second, and this is partly my fault because I should have said no, but I got a curly cut and I hadn't planned on it. I showed up with my natural wave/curl (like 2a/2b curl) and Wes offered to do a curly cut and even though I was hesitant, I agreed. I shouldn't have and I think I would have probably liked this place more if I had gotten a conventional cut. This salon is just not prepared for curls. I know this because all the assistants that helped style my hair made that very clear. They had no idea that the cut would continue after my hair was rough cut and styled and kept asking if I liked my half cut hair. Finally, one assistant was simply rude to me and others and at the second hour of this experience, I was just not in the mood. My cut is boxy, which is not you want from a curly cut and i have to wear it half up or completely up for a while until I get a bit more length and can have it re-cut. The salon was super packed so I assume lots of other folks have better experiences here but I will not be returning. read more

If you want amazing layers, please go see Adem! I haven't been able to find anyone in DC who does great 90s layers but Adem absolutely killed it! The gentleman with the red hair did my blowout and it was amazing as well! They were also extremely courteous and took the time to explain all the processes to me and were so kind and funny! I wasn't going to write up the next complaint because of how great my hairdressers were service and skills wise. Unfortunately I do have to take off a star due to the receptionist . She interrupted my session TEN TIMES (i counted) to whisper to my hairdressers and it seemed extremely unnecessary and disrupted the session so much. I'm so glad I was able to book an appointment with Marco a couple months ago. My firm was doing new head shots for the website (you know that picture you'll be stuck with for 5 years or so?) so I really wanted to make sure I got the color and cut just right. I'd never been to the salon but Marco came highly recommended by some friends. And bonus it's right near my office on K. St. It was honestly the best haircut and color I've ever had. I'm super picky about my blond color, and its hard to make fine hair look full, Marco cut it at just the right length and gave me some good tips for keeping it healthier looking too. Laura is the queen of balayage... I would follow her to the moon to color my hair. Been going to her for 6+ years and every time I leave the salon my hair looks healthier than when I went in. She is such a wizard with painting my hair that it grows out beautifully extending my color far longer than anyone else. I typically only have my hair colored twice a year since the grow out is so nice. Not only is she very skilled and educated on the latest and the greatest, she is so passionate about what she does. I could not be more thrilled about Ferro Salon opening in DuPont! I have been seeing Ruth for over a year now and my hair has never looked better. Aside from being a complete bad ass woman, Ruth is a really great listener and consistently makes my hair look and feel it's best. While I have only come to this salon once, coming in felt like going somewhere familiar. Erin and the rest of the staff are fantastic. They do not push products on you, which is a huge plus BUT they carry Kerastase, aka heaven so if you want to extend the life of your hair/style/color you really should be using the best of the best. I came in as a hair model to see Andrea and she gave me a gorgeous balayage I've been gushing over. Marco's team is amazing and Andrea took her time to make sure every detail was perfect and took the time to get to know my hair (I swim in a pool a lot) and treat my hair so delicately! I left with my hair feeling healthy and looking beautiful, without that fried, over-processed feel. The colors had great dimension and tone. I followed my forever hair stylist of three years Wesley Dews here, and I have only great things to say about this salon. The general vibe is very friendly and professional, and they have several Covid precautions in place for their employees and clients. The location is excellent. Also, back to Wesley - he is an amazing stylist and colorist who has a special eye for how particular shades and designs mesh with a client's complexion and overall persona. He's not afraid to be real with you if you're interested in a particular hair trend that just wouldn't suit you in the end. Also, as a brunette with "Asian hair," I've had a hard time finding people who can provide a natural but striking, non-brassy balayage, and Wesley has consistently delivered in that regard. I really do not normally leave reviews ever but Sammie Geis is a lifesaver. Go see her for color if you can. After having my hair ruined by two different salons, I found Sammie on instagram and DM'd her for a consultation. I had uneven, chunky, orange solid highlights and this was a lifeline to save my ruined hair. When I came in for the consultation, she was so nice, listened to me, and actually talked me through how we can reach my hair goal in a sustainable and right way, rather than saying no off the bat to the type of blonde I am looking for. I left the consultation feeling excited and relieved after having two traumatic salon experiences. She even was able to book me the next week as she had an opening come up in her schedule! When I came in for my appointment, she talked me through everything that we were going to do, showed me pictures so that I wouldn't be surprised when my hair was done, and talked me through every step of the process and all the products she was using to keep my hair healthy. When I finally saw the blow dried result, I was so happy. She perfectly blended my root into my previously chunky highlights and the gloss managed to make my orangeness pretty much go away. I knew I wouldn't leave with bright blonde, but she completely turned my hair around from what it was. My hair looks soft, even, lived-in, and actually looks like I had it professionally done!!! My old stylist moved to a different state. So, I went to this salon based on a friends suggestion. I'm very glad I did. I have thick hair and a lot of cowlicks. Most stylists have a hard time cutting my hair, so I was a little leery about trying someone new, but I really had no choice. Everyone was very warm and welcoming. My stylist was Marco, and in addition to be warm and welcoming, he's very animated. He has a thick Italian accent so it might be a little hard to understand him. Other than that, my cut was great. Laura Gibson is the BEST hair colorist! I have been going to her for four years now. Originally went for a blonde color correction and haven't looked back since...except to check out her amazing work on this mane of mine. She'll be realistic with you about what you want out of your hair color and what your general maintenance is and make realistic suggestions for coloring. Aka someone like me who is on the lazier side with maintenance, so I do a full balayage as blonde as I can go without having to cross into the territory of foiled highlights (requires more frequent visits). read more

Ferro salon is a fantastic! Marco cuts my hair and always does a great job. He's very detail oriented and spends a lot of time getting my cut just right. Worst customer service and attitude I've experienced at any hair salon. I called the salon to get an appointment with Ruth, who I had gone to for years at Roche Salon. Ruth is amazing but the new salon's service style/management is very rude. They act like they're doing you a favor for an "opportunity" to go into the salon. The space is nice as are the receptionists. My colorist Ruth did a fantastic job. However, I find the $180 price tag for single process color on a short bob entirely too expensive. Admittedly, this is my first salon visit since moving to DC so maybe I don't understand the market. Marco cut my hair, the price was slightly better at $130, but I didn't love my cut. He took too much off and made my funky asymmetrical bob a basic Vidal Sassoon bob that is slightly longer on one side. On the other hand everyone was really nice, and welcoming. I typically like to try new places for beauty stuff but have been going to Katty McCain for my cut for about 12 years now and don't know that I'll ever go to anyone else. In that time, I've had long hair, bangs and really short bobs and she kills it every time. The cuts are always easy for me to style on my own which is so key. She moved to Ferro last year and the salon has a good vibe, too. Plus they spend extra time on scalp massages at the shampoo bowl which are 10/10. read more
