I came to Izzy Salon because I saw so many natural-looking blonde dye jobs on their Instagram page. I'm happy to say that I received the same beautiful results I saw online when Eyüp dyed my grown-out roots from their natural strawberry blonde color to a much lighter (almost platinum) blonde. Instead of giving me traditional highlights, he touched it up in a way that left some of my natural color showing near the roots so that it would require less visits to the salon. He also blended the colors well and made the dye job look natural. I'll let the attached photos of my roots before and after speak for themselves!! The artful cut was just a bonus. This is a man who values uniqueness and can really listen to his customers when they tell him what unique vision they have for their hair. I will be coming back to see Eyüp again :) read more

Ask for Ciera! She is an amazing colorist and stylist! I used to be a client of hers from another salon and moved to Izzy to follow her! She did my color and cut for my wedding. She takes the best care of her clients. When some highlights didn't lift as much as I wanted, she cut time out of her busy schedule to brighten some of my highlights to look perfect on my big day, free of charge! She knows her stuff and knows what will look good and guides you through the process. She really is the best. You will not be disappointed. The salon owner, Isabelle, is also very nice and takes the time to check in on all the clients during their time there. went to get highlights and a cut... service was great, however the highlights looked horrendous. I specifically said I did not want it to be stripey looking or too blonde, and I came out of the salon with a whole new hair color and looked like a skunk. I went to pay and was shocked when they said it was $350 for a cut and partial highlights. Not impressed at all, I am now at another salon getting it fixed. I had also asked for curtain bangs and the stylist told me they could not do it. Very odd experience and a waste of money. read more

What a devastating disaster. I thought I'd done all the right things- I'd been thinking about changing my hair color for over a year. I'd done a ton of research, read a ton of reviews. I finally stopped by the salon, talked with the stylist about what I wanted, had realistic expectations, and made an appointment for the following week. I showed up to my appointment a little early, talked with the stylist and his co-worker about what I wanted, just to reiterate everything. We got started 30m late because he was finishing with another client. That was annoying, but fine, since I knew we were going to be there for hours. Fast forward to almost six hours later and he's put my hair through several processes (and burned the crap our of my scalp- yes, I told him, several times. Several times he said it was normal). He sits me down to blow dry everything and first I notice the color isn't right. Like not at all right. But it was lighter and I was prepared for this to be an on-going process. But as he was blow drying I noticed that large chunks of my hair had fallen off the top of my head, basically leaving me with a mullet-like hair style with the hair burned off the top of my head. I was devastated. He first tired to argue but knew it wasn't going to work. And there's no way I was going to argue. He ended up not charging me (good) and I left, in tears. I came home, washed it, combed out a bunch more hair and went to the store the next day to get some products to help strengthen it a bit. And the worse part? It's been almost two weeks and the owner hasn't bothered to reach out to me. She wasn't there that evening, but there were four employees there, so if she's not been informed about this disaster, she's got bigger problems on her hands. A phone call to me could have made all the difference. read more

I wanted an impromptu haircut at 5pm on a Tuesday before a big trip and happened upon Izzy Salon as I was walking home. I was greeted enthusiastically by multiple women at the reception desk and was taken right away by Paul. From the moment he walked over, I knew I was in fantastic hands (Note: don't count on a walk-in, make a res! He usually books way in advance, this was a lucky fluke for me) I started off with a hair wash and scalp massage by the technician at the sink - very relaxing and well done, she took her time and checked on my comfort multiple times. I felt very taken care of. Paul gave me the most thorough, friendly and knowledgable consultation I have ever had on my hair - we discussed products, styling techniques, my hair type, and looked many pictures of what my haircut could look like. I wanted to go shorter, and Paul and I discussed lengths, styles, DC humidity and how it would affect the cut - basically this man was my hair guru and did not tire of my rapid peppering of questions. He told me what he knew, admitted what he didn't, and never tried to up-sell or over-flatter. I felt like I was talking and working with someone who just loves hair and it made my experience really fun. Paul gave me a fabulous haircut, gorgeous blow out, and then worked with me to understand a few products I could buy for future styling. I had long been looking for a place where I could get my eyebrows done. I finally found Izzy Salon recommended by Allure Magazine. The woman who I had an appointment with was 10 minutes late. I was told on the phone that I would be charged around $20. Once I was taken in, I told the woman who was going to do my Eyebrows that I had been to many places and i desperately need my eyebrows fixed. She assured me that she knew what I wanted. I don't think she spent more than 5 minutes with me, and charged me $35. I was shocked. Not only did she over charge me but my eyebrows looked terrible. Every time, I look in the mirror, I am pretty upset at my experience and the price I had to pay for it. Definitely not going back again. read more

This place deserves negative 50,000 stars. What a train wreck. I submitted an online form for a cut and color. They called me back to schedule said cut and color with Aykut. I was excited to try a new salon having just moved back to DC. As a fan of Oribe, I ended up at Izzy. What a joke. There is no customer service. A weird check-in and seating process. When my stylist approaches me he instructs me to put on a robe, not telling me where to go. Should I do this in the main area in front of everyone? Then, zero consultation, just a passing question about what I want while sitting at the shampoo bowl. It was clear at this point my color was not happening. He said nothing to me the entire time and looked away, bored. He cut virtually no hair and then said I was done. The lady at the desk asked "how was it." I told her, for having scheduled a color and cut, I got neither. This salon is a sick joke. AVOID at all costs. They should refund me the $65 I paid not to receive either service. I still cannot believe I paid for this experience today. Wow. read more

Izzy Salon gets 5 stars for so many reasons in my book! Jean Claude did my color today and he is just a hair genius. I've asked so many hair stylists for this dark blonde and it always comes out mousy and too dark. Not today! Jean Claude absolutely nailed it and was super candid throughout the entire process, telling me each step of the way what he was doing and what I need to do to maintain this color. I couldn't be happier with the finished product. He's so knowledgable and gave me pointers on how to repair my very damaged hair (from another stylist at another salon) that I have never heard before. The salon is beautiful and super client-oriented. From the minute you walk in, the staff makes sure you have what you need whether its a place to store your coat or a glass of water or cup of coffee. DC is an expensive place to get your hair done-but Izzy Salon is well worth it!! read more

I have gone to Izzys to get my eyebrows shaped a few times over the last year. Catherine does a nice job with my thicker brows- but don't expect any pleasantries. I went in this morning, calling on my way to share that I was going to be 10 minutes late for my appt. When I arrived Catherine was shaking her head no, she shared her next client had arrived (early, by the way) and she had already let her into her room... the gentleman I'd spoken with on the phone stood there silently. There was no "I'm sorry, I know you called" ... or "let's look at my schedule and see when I can squeeze you in." Nada. The gentleman's response to my "I called to let you know" was "it's Catherine's choice." Just found it so odd, for a place I've gone to consistently over the last year, in the heart of Georgetown, to have absolutely no customer service, or appreciation for a returning client. Wow...I had my first trip to Izzy Salon after a series of hair coloring experiences that were so disappointing (and expensive). I have blonde highlighted hair that picks gold very easily and it's hard BUT seems crazy that it can't be figured out. Annie not only figured it out, but gave me an extra conditioning treatment and an amazing blow out that made me feel more like my old self -- only better and younger (lol)! I found the entire vibe very friendly and comfortable. If you need color...see Annie. She's amazing and you'll enjoy the time being pampered and enhanced. Thank you Izzy! Chloe is excellent at cutting hair, but unfortunately the administrative staff at Izzy is horrible to say the least. They have messed up bookings for haircuts several times but I was always suckered back. Once they gave me a different stylist and I received an AWFUL haircut. Today was the last straw though. I came in for a 10AM appointment that I confirmed the day before and when I got there, they said the appointment was at 1PM. I complained that this has happened before and that I'm entitled to a discount due to the numerous failures and the inconvenience to my schedule. Keep in mind, this is my birthday and wanted a fresh cut. They said they would call me to let me know if I could get a discount. They called me and said I was already at a discounted rate and that they could not lower it for their mishap. This could be the worst customer service I have experienced from an establishment that prides itself on being top-notch. Do not go to this place ever. Its a complete ripoff. read more

This is the only place in DC that offers Anevolve--a less toxic alternative to the Brazilian Blowout that uses sulfites instead of keratin and formaldehyde. The woman who used to do my hair was the best of any Anevolve stylist in the USA. I had the treatment in San Francisco, Marin, and Chicago with much more stripping of the color. Unfortunately my former stylist is no longer on the team, although I look forward to trying the new stylist. I am glad the option is still on the menu! read more

The owner, Isabelle, did a complete makeover of the salon so now it's a first class experience from the moment you walk in the door. The staff is super nice, without being pretentious. If you're looking for a hair salon in DC, you should definitely consider this place :) I've been going to Karine for years and I've always left with the perfect haircut for me. Karine is great at listening to what I want and she's very knowledgeable and personable. She's incredibly skilled at her trade and takes great pride in what she does and the quality of her work is always consistent. Izzy runs an elegant salon with the most talented stylists in the region with top rated Aesthetician, Catherine DuBois, sharing floor space with her. I am a typical guy who always went to a cheap barber after getting my hair cut in the military for years. All of Izzy's stylists are professionally trained for several years (many in France) and I thought, "What do I need with that sort of haute couture for my hair??" Then, a very good friend told me that I had to try Isabelle and I was amazed - how could a simple guy's hair cut look so amazing?? The women that walk out Izzy's look tres magnifique ausssi! After many failed attempts at a variety of places, a very good and trusted friend recommended Jean-Claude at Izzy. I come out feeling great & looking smashing. In over 20 years of doing my hair at some of the nicest salons around, I have never paid as much as these people charged me. My mistake was that I didn't ask up front. I assumed since they are in G'town they will be towards the higher end and I was ok with that because I was desperately looking for a stylist in the G'town area. The work they did on my hair was good to be fair. But they are charging NY high style salon prices. I got a feeling that they thought I had a lot of money and when I asked them to break down the price they seemed to be surprised and gave me some non sensical response that I still don't understand. Anyway, too bad because the stylist was good but my overall feeling was that these people charge not on a set fee schedule but on a person to person basis. read more

Given this is supposedly one of the top salons in DC, I would give it overall a below average rating. I went there, my second time in a year thinking I'll have a special cut and beautiful color for the upcoming wedding of our daughter. The first colorist did not study my hair well and made a solution 2-3 shades darker. Given this was for a wedding, the situation is compounded as a disaster. All the people who know me know my hair color, apparently Izzy Salon did not. In addition to that the woman who washed my hair got copious amounts of water in my ear. When I asked for something for drying my ears, she told me to go (get up from the chair where she was washing my hair) and find some tissue in the salon, no attempt to help me directly. I had to go back second time because the dark color didn't cover the grey. The next day a new colorist applied hair color, which was added in large amounts all over, made the hair even darker. The price was a sticker shock $270 (includes tipping) for a disastrous outcome and five hours in the salon over the two very busy days where it was hard to afford the extra unanticipated time. The manager's response was simply "Sorry for the inconvenience'. I'll have the hair stylist call you to talk about it. He did, and proceeded to make me feel guilty for complaining. At that point, being made to feel guilty for the salon's mistakes was about all a mother of the bride needed days before the wedding.There has been no compensation or seeming regret over this situation on behalf of the salon. I do not recommend it and especially for special occasions - go to the salon you know and trust. read more
