Allie is amazing!! I told her I wanted change but couldn't decide so I let her have creative freedom to do as she wished! Boy oh boy did she give me change! Love the cut, love the color and LOVE Allie. She was very professional and sweet! Will definitely be going back to see her!

Curly hair cut by Ginger

I recently moved away from the salon in New England where I'd been a deva cut regular for several years. My most recent cut left me with a harsh V shape that I chose to hide in a pony tail or bun rather than asking for it to be fixed. I knew I had to find a place in DC where I felt comfortable with my stylist. After checking out other places' reviews and not being about to find an appointment for MONTHS I stumbled on reviews about Ginger's dry curly cuts. I am so thankful for her and her skills! My hair is shorter than I wanted but I expected it with the nature of curly hair. Ginger listened and gave advice but she wasn't pushy about products. This is a day of picture and I'm sure if I took as much time as she did styling it'll look like this everyday! The price is very reasonable considering what other curly salons in the city are listing. I highly recommend Ginger.

French Fleetwood Mac perfection

Melissa is a goddess; fully a technician and fully an artist. I looked in the mirror and I felt fully realized -- this is MY perfect haircut. On FaceTime just now my best friend said she already can't remember what I look like without this haircut because this is supposed to be my hair. My male best friend kind of snorted and said I look like Fleetwood Mac -- this is honest to god E X A C T L Y how I want men to feel about me. Knowing that there are dozens of other women in this town that feel as good about themselves as I do about myself with this haircut (and this wash!)...makes me want to find all of them, band together, and form a league of unstoppable women. I walked into this salon less than 18 hours after finding out about it on Yelp. After shooting them an email requesting the earliest appointment for a hair cut (I live nearby), they responded within 30 minutes that Melissa had an opening the next day at 11am due to a cancellation. Once I emailed back and accepted the appointment, they sent me an appointment confirmation text. I never gave them my number -- they must've grabbed it from my email signature. I also got a reminder text two hours before the appointment. All seamless. I walked in with no idea what I wanted, just that I knew my hair needed to be thinned out and shaped. I have extremely thick, heavy, semi-coarse Persian hair that grows like a weed (I am hashtag blessed -- thank u to my ancestors) in a weird triangular shape that flips up at the bottom -- real cartoon hair. But when I was waiting for Melissa (prob 3 minutes), I saw one of the other stylists with the most incredible bangs. Once in the chair, Melissa took a good look at my actual hair -- not just my hair in the mirror, like actually squatted down to my height and touched it and messed with it -- to get a sense of the texture and behavior, asked me where I part it, how often I wash it, etc. I told her I liked the other stylists' bangs and she said I could do a version of them well. Then she started throwing out words like Brigitte Bardot, volume, French, 70s, your hair will look longer, stopping to check in with me as she formed her plan. I was honestly astounded because she instantly got this vibe that I love but can only haphazardly explain and was able to explain it back to me perfectly. Ok so she sent me off for a wash and hoo boy lemme tell ya -- this was the best hair washing of! my! life! I could not tell you precisely why except that the woman (I think her name is Viv?) took her time, everything smelled so zen and amazing, the sun was out, and her hands deserve to be puppeteering a muppet for God's sake but here we are in Adams Morgan with such unfettered access to them and what a small miracle that is. (If you don't tip her you're a monster) Then Melissa gave me my perfect haircut. She was an easy listener when I rambled on about nothing important (I do this, it's who I am) and there was zero tension when I silently zoned out for ten minutes. Toward the end when the bags and face framing layers were starting to dry naturally, they already had this absurdly perfect bend to them that I have coveted from women in British crime dramas for years. HOW DID SHE DO THAT??? Y'all I was geeking out. Even she realized this was a great haircut and asked if she could photograph it at the end. Yes, bitch! And she did, with real lights and everything. And here's five more selfies of it because I realized just now you can style the bangs three ways -- iconic. The haircut cost $95.00, including the wash, cut, blowout, and styling, not including tip. They accept Venmo tips! I had to get that price from my bank app because I was deliriously blacked out from the moment I looked in the mirror until I met my friend 15 minutes later for coffee and she SQUEALED (scout's honor, her name is Elissa) when saw me and I snapped out of it and yelled I KNOW RIGHT???

I will follow Cherise anywhere. I love the place, the products, and the warmth. I have been her client for... maybe ten years now.

“But the haircut I got from Cherise was outstanding and more than makes up for the momentary salon experience.”

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.
