not straight or frizz-free
Alicia D.

had never used this salon before, but bought a Groupon for cut and keratin treatment. I have done at least 10 keratin treatments over the past few years, and for the first time- this one simply didn't take. my hair is not straight and fr7izz free, as it should be. The woman who washed my hair was a speed demon, as she fit in my washing when another woman who was being rinsed for something got up for a minute to go to the bathroom - so she had to try to finish before she got back. And the guy who did my hair seemed like he was is a race while he was doing it, but I'm not sure if that was the problem or if they just use a crappy keratin product. the cut was okay - but again... done really fast. The whole time I was there I felt like they just wanted me out. not sure if that was because of the Groupon. will go bacl.and hope they offer to make it right. so - I called the salon abd offered me a do-over. I went back today and the woman who re-did my keratin treatment was lovely -- definitely didn't feel like she was rushing me out the door. fingers crossed that in 3-4 days, when I wash it, it will still be smooth and relatively straight.

I said I wanted 8 inches to donate - what about this is remotely close to 8 inches?
Patricia S.

I came here to donate my hair. I kept repeating that I am going to donate 8 inches of hair. She cut off almost 12 inches! I don't understand, do they use a separate measuring system here?! When she rubberbanded by hair to cut it, I asked her to make sure it was 8 inches, because it looked way too short. My hairstylist assured me it was 8 inches. If she was an inch or so off, I am fine with that...but 12 inches?! She also thinned my hair a little too much. The cut is nice just a good 3.5 inches too short. On the upside, everyone is really nice here.

I came here based on Yelp reviews because I haven't had my hair colored in years and had no idea where to go. I had Brightan and he was awesome. Super knowledge and friendly. Answered as many questions as I asked during the whole process. Not only that but he was just so enthusiastic about what I wanted to do which made the whole thing more fun and exciting. He dos a great job coloring my hair from a dirty blonde to red. I love the highlights and am very happy with the color in general. The yelp coupon was awesome and saved me $25 off the price. I need to come back for a trim because I ran out of time! Definitely recommend this salon!

Playing up the lavender!

Brightan from Glynn Jones is EVERYTHING. He gave me a beautiful cut and color with tons of versatility. I wanted to add some lavender to my hair, but didn't want to look too wild for work, so Brightan gave me a "peek-a-boo" look that I can wear multiple ways to play the color up or down. I've been going to Brightan for almost a year now, and can only sing his praises. Go to him if you truly want to be transformed. He will reach inside of you and pull out your most beautiful self. I always leave the salon thinking, "YASSSSS!!"

Short review: Shigumi cut my hair. It looks awesome. I'm going back when I need my hair cut again…read more Long review: So hard to find a salon in DC. There are a lot of salons but if you look at the hair photos everything just seems weird and has an early 2000s vibe. Idk why. I chose this place because the reviews were decent and it's close to my apartment. I submitted the appointment request and got matched with Shigumi. Then I looked at her reviews in yelp and it was mixed. I kept the appt because I really needed a haircut and wanted to see what the Japanese salon thing was about. Unlike other reviews I was not given tea and didn't feel the overall Japanese vibe. There are cherry blossom colored lanterns hanging from the ceiling. Was anything else Japanese? Honestly I couldn't tell. It just seemed like a salon. Everything was very organized. I saw one person get turned away because they were late for there appt. Don't be late! For reference, I once had my hair cut at the now closed immortal beloved. I did a ton of research before going for my haircut. The place looked and smelled amazing but I got the worst haircut ever. Thanks again Shigumi!

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.
