No one told me that my services or pricing would change. I said that was fine, but asked what it would cost. I received roundabout answers and had to ask three separate times before finally being told I would be charged $417, the price of my original, much more extensive service. I left without receiving any service and was charged $417. But the most upsetting part was how unkind the experience was. I work a demanding job in DC and was trying to handle the situation responsibly. I called ahead, explained what happened, asked what I should do, and followed their direction to come in. Anyone working in this city knows that meetings run over. I was not asking them to ignore their policies. I was asking for basic communication and consideration. Instead, I felt like I had to repeatedly push just to get a straight answer about what I was being charged. That lack of transparency, and especially the lack of kindness, was incredibly disappointing. There are plenty of professional, transparent, and genuinely considerate salons in DC. I will be going elsewhere.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

I called to see if I could do a same day appointment and they were so flexible! I was able to schedule one two hours out from when I called. I did arrive early as I did not want to take the metro and instead drove. You have to keep an eye out for parking. Just keep your travel time in consideration when visiting the area. The salon is on the second floor and is quite easy to find. I had Yvonne give me a haircut and she was so quick with the process. My cut was pretty simple and I just wanted several inches shorter with long curtain bangs. I had it styled at the end too! Not to mention, I was given a deep conditioning treatment. I'm not sure how much that costs but for all the services I received it came out to a decent price ($125). PS there's a store mascot here (some doggos) so just keep that into consideration if you have allergies. I'm sure if you have your dog with you this business is pet friendly.

If you want fabulous hair, head to Talio! Renato has been cutting my hair for 11 years. He listens to what you want, he understands your hair, he cuts beautifully, he's great at layering, and he doesn't engage you in conversation unless you want him too. He will often make exceptions for clients to get there early or stay late to work with people's schedules. I often go at the late appointment - and just to address the comment about locking the door - if it's getting late and you're the only one there, he will lock the doors for safety. Nothing weird about it - just the opposite. Renato is consistent and wonderful. I've never had anything but a cut I'm perfectly happy with! I also love that he's one of those hairdressers who you can say "what do you think we should do today" and you come out 45 minutes later with a gorgeous, chic new cut! Renato's daughter, Elvira, is amazing too and though she's only cut my hair once or twice when Renato was on vacation, her clients seem very pleased with her too. Lastly, Julia (hair washing) gives a great head massage while she washes your hair. I look forward to seeing Julia when I go so not sure about the client who had a bad experience with her. I honestly can't find anything negative to say re Talio. It's a wonderful experience every time! read more

VERY VERY HAPPY!!!! Shinee does amazing work and she REALLY knows color. She fixed my hair!! Came to Shinee today to have her fix the mess that another salon (immortal beloved on 14th Street) made of my hair. Basically I walked into Talio today looking like an animal had died on my head - the other salon Immortal Beloved had wrecked my root color by dying/"smudging" it this brassy orange color with thin, brassy low lights (and then they argued it looked fine and they could not fix it or issue a refund for the $300). Shinee Fixed the mess in LESS than an hour. AND Shinee made sure I was happy, showing me the color in different lighting before I went home. She really took the time and care to make sure the job was done correctly. She told me exactly what I could expect from the job, and she was SPOT on. After how horribly I was treated at Immortal Beloved, I really appreciate Shinee's expectation setting and quality customer service. Everyone I have spoken with at Talio is very nice, professional and accommodating and they truly do care about quality. They definitely converted me into a loyal customer. Talio is 5 starts all the way and Shinee is awesome!! read more

I went to Talio when I was visiting Georgetown for the weekend. I live in NY and normally have my hair cut by my regular stylist who is great. But once I realized that I was overdue for a cut, and I had a big event to attend, I read some Yelp reviews and took a chance. I definitely chose the right place. They gave me an appt at the end of the day and it was nice to see that the salon was busy. As I walked up Wisconsin from the 4 Seasons Hotel, most of the salons (and there were plenty) were empty. Lee was my stylist and she asked my goals and preferences for my cut: must be professional looking for work, easy to maintain, and be in- style (I'm a 49 year old design business owner.) Her cut and blow dry were fabulous! I walked out looking great, got lots of compliments that night, and my hair still looked great 3 days later. And now that I have washed and styled it myself 3 times since then (and I give it a quickie blow dry only), it falls into place and continues to look great. I've never written a Yelp review before, but since other reviews of Talio helped me choose this salon, I hope my review helps other. Highly recommend! read more

Really great hair place! Very nice interior design, great service (providing drink immediately, etc), and pleasant experience! I have been here twice, both times for a haircut, and Shinée really is an expert! The first time I had very long hair and was hesitant about what exactly to get -- I had never gotten a short hair before. Shinée, however, understood me perfectly and encouraged me to try a new hairstyle. She also asked me plenty of questions before and during cutting my hair, to make sure I am getting what I want. Today I dropped in after three months for another haircut, and Shinée is as awesome as ever! She is charming, personable, and we have so much fun talking about any topic! Another great thing is that she remembers what I did three months ago! Like the last time, she asked me questions and explained things to me very patiently. After my beloved hairdresser from London moved, I tried multiple salons around the D.C. area, with disappointing results. My thick, wavy hair requires an expert hand, which I just couldn't find until Renato at Talio cut my hair. He understood how to shape it so the cut would work with my hair texture, not against it. Among other hair stylists, his son and daughter work in the salon with him. As is typical of family businesses, you can feel their sense of pride and ownership in their work. The salon has a small, friendly feel, unlike many pretentious salons in Georgetown. They don't push their products, but since the price of the haircut was so reasonable I decided to treat myself to some wonderful hair products, made with natural ingredients from farms in Italy. I am looking forward to getting my dark hair colored here. Elvira, Renato's daughter, has the most luscious, rich, chocolate color, without the least bit of brassiness. Spring is here and I needed a new look! A friend suggested Caroline at Talio. I had never been to Talio before and I don't like driving in Georgetown. But parking is a breeze, you can park on 34th street where spaces are always open. I wanted to go lighter for the spring, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Caroline who has hair that women dream of having! Caroline is a bubbly, friendly person who makes you feel right at home. She took her time in asking what I wanted, how I style my hair (I hate styling) and how much maintenance I was willing to do. I wish I had taken before and after pictures because the cut and color are amazing. I don't HAVE to style my hair and it looks like I did! I moved to the DC area from LA 5 years ago and have been dying to find a stylist with the vision and Charisma similar the West Coast stylist and OMG (TRACY) at Talio just did a Balayage and Cut on me and my friends hair and she is simply amazing!!!!!!! I first met Caroline 6 years ago, and in addition to being a fantastic person, who has become a friend, she is seriously a genius when it comes to color. I had an excellent experience at Talio. I went in to get my hair cut and colored (blonde) by Michaela. I gave her a vague idea of what I wanted, but it came out even better than I had imagined! The color was beautiful with no brassy tones, and other than a small streaky part, it looked totally natural. One of the best colors I've ever had done! The cut was so beautiful and put so much life back into my hair with lots of layers and texture. Michaela was also an awesome human being, and I genuinely had such a fun time talking to her; she is so genuine and funny. There weren't many reviews for men's haircuts but this was the only salon to have 5 stars so I gave it a shot. Mikaela and I talked about my hair for 10 minutes before starting and she made great recommendations. It was a scissor cut and easily the best haircut I've ever had. Renato has cut my hair for over 28 years with the exception of the time I lived abroad and had to call him from overseas (often in tears) to ask how to fix my disasterous cuts there. He is simply the best there is and is passionate about his work and the results are always excellent. Highly recommend Renato but you need to book well in advance. TLDR: I got my hair done by a less experienced stylist. It did not go well. I contacted the salon…read moreand the owner took time and fixed it himself. A+++ customer service. This is an update from a review I posted years ago, that I wish I could remove because I wrote about a mistake they made but did not update it explaining how they fixed the mistake. This will be kind of long but I feel terrible remembering I never thanked the salon for what they did. I wanted highlights and a cut because it was May and I wanted my hair lighter. The initial stylist instead made my hair darker with a little ombré at the ends. She did a good job if that is what I asked for. I think she's artistic and kind of went with it. Anyway, I was really unhappy because my hair was the opposite of what I wanted. I contacted her. She said she'd fix it if I wanted to pay for another service I believe. Then I contacted the salon. They said they'd fix it. (I might be incorrect about their exact responses at any point and I'd believe it if I'm getting the exact words wrong). I went back to get my freshly darker hair dyed lighter. Unsurprisingly, and to put it lightly- IT DID NOT GO WELL. I had light patches and dark patches, or stripes to be more specific. Some of it was kind of orange. I felt like I looked like Tony the Tiger. I had to wear a hat or use hair color spray just to even it out. I expressed this to the salon. The owner said I could come in for a consultation in his Alexandria salon. I did. He explained what he would do then set up an appointment a few days later. I came back. He was so wonderful. He spent hours personally fixing my hair. It was lighter. The color looked great. Then, they gave me all of these wonderful Joico products to maintain it. I think mistakes happen. Miscommunications happen. But to go above and beyond to fix the problem and to be so kind really makes all the difference. I appreciate the owner and this salon so much.

This time I did a grey ash balayage, cut off 4-5 inches of my hair and it looks phenomenal with the end results. My hair took about 4.5 hours because of the bleaching process but I promise the end results are worth the wait. His cut technique is quick and precise too! I don't live locally anymore but everytime I am home visiting family, I will specifically make a hair appointment and see him. Also, his coloring technique with the bleach has not damaged my hair- my ends are never dead. The products he uses are amazing. You can see the photos I have posted over the years. It's best to make an appointment and you will find street parking everywhere, especially in the neighborhood. I always send him a text to schedule an appointment.
