I've been going to Vic for my hair for like four years now and I've loved every cut, style, and balayage! No matter what Vic does to my hair it looks amazing. Despite literal years of trying to teach me to do so, I can never get my hair to look as great as it does when she styles it! She always listens to what I need, makes great recommendations, and is such a joy to talk to.

    Frankie with the happy client

Frankie is a talented and an excellent hair stylist. I really appreciate his honesty with my daughter's hair: since she colored them a few times unsuccessfully, Frankie said that we have to nourish hair first before coloring them. Frankie is a real master of hair techniques and knows what's best for his clients. His hairstyles are up to date and his ideas are very innovative. Prices are reasonable considering his fame. The studio is conveniently located: 5 minutes from the metro or the parking garage. Finally, Frankie has great communication skills and is always open to have a conversation. The experience is Frankie is unforgettable and I will continue to recommend him to my family and friends.

    Frankie's Work

Frankie is a Hair Guru and Genius. He has a Fabulous eye for color, detail and style. He uses the best quality extensions and is highly sought after in the industry. He even has experience working on celebrity hair. You won't go wrong with Frankie!

Awesome haircut and toner by Victoria! (Victoria did an awesome job camouflaging a precious bad dye job while it grows out)

Loved everything about my pandemic experience at TheStudeo. I highly recommend Victoria in particular! A friend recommended Victoria after I had a couple bad experiences over the past year. And I can say that I finally found my DC stylist! Haircut from Victoria Victoria was really knowledgeable and noticed how badly my hair was bleached by one stylist, and even noticed the uneven haircut from the next one. She was super friendly and honestly, it made a difference that she empathized with my last experience. I felt like she had high standards and that I could trust my hair with her. She was awesome in listening to what I was looking for and offered suggestions for temporarily camouflaging the bad dye job while my hair grows out. After the haircut, my hair looks voluminous and healthy again. The toner evened out my hair color and the haircut offered some bouncy layers to add more volume. The Ambiance and Pandemic Safety Measures The salon had lots of light and has a relaxing ambiance. The music was not too loud and it was nice and refreshing to be in AC after walking through 90 degree weather to get there! It was completely empty except for my stylist and the shampoo person. They wiped everything down before and after every client and everyone wore masks. I definitely felt safe coming in during the pandemic. Pricing $90 for a haircut and $60 for a toner was super reasonable compared to other places in the area. Definitely worth it considering that Victoria did an awesome job! Final Verdict I loved everything about my experience and highly recommend the salon during the pandemic and Victoria specifically for a haircut and tone. I'll definitely be back for my next haircut and eventually to color my hair once the current color grows out. But for now, I can't comment on color since I haven't had a chance to do that at this salon yet.

I don't know if there are enough words to describe how amazing, fantastic, gifted, funny, entertaining and 'I get more compliments on my hair than I ever have before in my life' kind of things I could write to say how much my hair loves Frankie!!! I love him too, but my hair is literally on cloud 9 and happy with every single visit. He NEVER disappoints me with either his personality or techniques. I trust him completely. I'll take a moment to talk about his personality which is almost, but not quite, as beautiful as my hair after he is done!!! Frankie is like a dark rainbow of joy, sarcasm and laughter. He's got a quick wit, shares his opinions and seems to have the singular mission to connect with people all around him. He's like a force of nature that you can't wait to get swept up in. I may enjoy his personality more than I should but that is one of the best parts of the whole experience with him. It's just fantastic!!! If your wondering what he uses, besides his amazing skill, I have to say that he uses nothing but the best products. I've had Bellami and Hairdreams Nano with amazing results. He's also used Hairdreams custom micro-line and, if I'm honest, his Balayage is the best I've ever seen. But, like I said, Frankie isn't just about hair. He is about people. It's like sitting with your bestie and hashing out lifes details, laughing hysterically and getting the best hair salon experience around. Now, to be fair, I've tried a TON of top level hairstylists so it's not like I just found Frankie and had never been to anyone else. But, finding Frankie is a lot like finding that great dress or perfect drink. You know when you find it and there is no reason to want to change. Just give Frankie a chance but, before you do, you might want to say goodbye to your 'old' salon because once you try Frankie there's just no way you're going back.

Kind of hesitant to give them 5 stars because I don't want people stealing my fabulous amazing stylist Victoria....But seriously. She works hair magic. I get a full balayage and trim every 3-6 months. And let me tell you: I don't know much about clothes but my hair looks fiiiierce. She's also just so much fun to chat with and really takes the time to get to know her clients, their hair needs and lifestyle.

Frankie has been amazing! Talented, dedicated, always learning new skills. I only trust my hair to him. I have been very busy in the past year and only now got to take care of my hair. Very happy with the bang, fringe, face framing and the trim (and curl) he did. Assistants and everyone there are generally pleasant and helpful. The vibe was good. Fiona the doggy is always so calm and therapeutic. The space is beautifully decorated. The Studeo moved from their previous ground-floor location to the current second floor location about 4 months ago.

    Loved!

I also understand why my appointment needed to be rescheduled. My issue is not with the policy, it's with how I was treated. I was made to feel like an inconvenience from the moment I walked into the salon. I had a 12:45 p.m. appointment and called before leaving home to let the salon know I was running about 10 minutes late, which is their stated grace period. The receptionist told me she would let Sera know. At 12:56 p.m., when I was literally one minute away from the salon, I received a call saying Sera could no longer see me because I was late, and she had back-to-back clients. While I was disappointed, I understood. I asked if I could still come in briefly to speak with Sera because I wasn't even sure I needed a full highlight service, and the receptionist agreed. When I arrived, Sera immediately told me I needed to reschedule and seemed unwilling to discuss my hair beyond commenting that the back was "really dark" and explaining that she had returning clients scheduled after me. She didn't seem to know or care that I was a returning client. Sera had done my hair in February, and I came back because I had really liked her work. Not recognizing me in and of itself is not a big problem--I know a lot of people sit in her chair--but it made the interaction feel impersonal and left me wondering if she'd even prepared for my appointment. I was fully prepared to work with Sera and the receptionist to find another date and time that fit both of our schedules. Instead, both were unhelpful, dismissive, and rude. This experience was especially difficult because I have pretty severe alopecia areata that, thankfully, is now well controlled with medication, allowing me to grow most of my hair back. That said, I wore a wig for five years after losing most of my hair, so finding a stylist I trust is still an incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-producing experience. Every time I see someone new, I have to explain my hair loss and why I prefer a lived-in color that doesn't require overly frequent trips to the salon. I chose to return to Sera because I thought I had found someone I could continue seeing. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed, dismissed, and genuinely upset. I walked out of the salon, called my husband, and cried like a reprimanded little girl. I am a 35-year-old grown-ass woman. Policies are important, and I respect them. Kindness and professionalism are just as important. Had the situation been handled with empathy and respect, I would have happily rescheduled. Instead, I left feeling less like a person and more like a time slot or a dollar sign. It seems like Sera may have enough clients that turning one away isn't a big deal, but I was respectful, cooperative, and ready to work with her to find another appointment. I deserved that same courtesy and respect in return.

Over the past five years, I have regularly visited Japanese hair salons in Los Angeles, New York City, and Boston while traveling frequently. In those experiences, even when a haircut did not fully match my preferred style or length, the technical quality was consistently strong, and any adjustments were handled professionally. Unfortunately, this experience was very different. One of the defining characteristics of a Japanese haircut is the smoothness, softness, precision, and careful organization of the layers. In my case, the cut lacked those qualities and appeared uneven and poorly structured (the photo from the back). I was also disappointed by the salon's management. Based on my experience, the overall operation and quality control did not reflect the standards typically associated with Japanese salons. Update (May 2026): Over the past 4 years, I have been with my Japanese hair stylist in New York. I returned to the salon to see Keiko because I was hoping to find a long-term stylist in Washington, DC. I had not had my haircut for 7 months prior to that because I delivered a baby in December 2025. Ozuki appeared to be one of the few salons in the area offering Japanese hairstylists. Immediately after the appointment, the haircut looked good due to the styling and blow-dry. However, within a few days, the shape became difficult to manage and appeared increasingly unstructured. The photo on my ID, taken approximately three weeks after the haircut, reflects how the cut settled over time. In contrast, the Japanese haircuts I have received elsewhere typically maintain their shape and balance for several months. Despite my concerns, I scheduled another appointment six weeks after the first haircut with Keiko because I genuinely hoped the issues could be corrected and that I could establish a relationship with a local stylist. At the same time, I let the management know that my haircut had bad form and hope that it can be resolved at the second appointment. Unfortunately, my interactions with management, Liz, were once again disappointing. Rather than addressing the concerns constructively, the response left me with little confidence that the salon could deliver the level of quality I was seeking. This is the first Japanese salon where I have repeatedly had unsatisfactory experiences. Based on the consistency of those experiences, I am not convinced that the salon operates at the standard typically associated with Japanese hairstyling.

I still believe a full refund would've been the right thing to do, but you pick your battles. I appreciate the attempt to make this right although it still seems somewhat half-hearted. 4/27/18 Please look up "Zhen Lin" on yelp to see my review of the stylist who did my hair and more pics of the highlights she gave me. There was obviously a major misunderstanding. Why on earth anyone would want super blonde highlights on top of dark brown hair in 2018 is beyond me. This is not at all what I asked for. I asked for a natural looking balayage and showed Zhen literally four different pictures of examples I liked. I expressed that I really wanted the hair to look natural, blended and not ombre'd or striped. Both Zhen and the manager refused to try to make it right when I expressed my disappointment in my hair. Neither offering to help fix it, nor a refund. I had to pay $250 for something that was the opposite of what I wanted. After begging in person for them to help, I left another pleading phone message tonight for them to help me fix this mess, or refund my money as I can only imagine what a color correction will cost at another salon. I absolutely hate writing bad reviews about people and wouldn't have posted this if I didn't feel completely swindled, disrespected and brushed aside. I'm really hoping they'll get back to me, and I'll update this review if they decide to do the right thing. In the meantime, I'm beyond disappointed and disgusted!
