As a member of the Vida gym, I receive a discount at the Aura Spa on Tuesdays. Thus, despite not normally getting a massage unless I'm on vacation, I decided to give them a go here. The price for a 60 minute massage is very fair for being right in the city, $130 before the discount, $110 with it (before gratuity). I have not tried any other services. Since I am a member of the gym, I knew it was located in the gym along with the hair salon and was not surprised by the entrance procedure. Rather, I was incredibly impressed by the tranquil environment they managed to create within the busy gym. Once you enter the space, there's dim mood lighting, relaxing music, water, and a separate bathroom. You wouldn't even know you're in the gym. I received a massage form one masseuse, thought it was good, and so I went back for a second with the same individual. The second time, I was deeply unimpressed. The whole experience was much more wholistic and caressing than a pressure-based massage--even after I requested more pressure. It didn't even feel like I had had a massage afterwards. So for my third session, I decided to try someone different: Ronnie. And Ronnie was amazing. He incorporated so many different techniques, including stretching, and threw in some extras like heat and aroma, even going a little over time. I would definitely book Ronnie again. It is a shame that there's no way to tell on the app (that I could see) what type of massage each masseuse specializes in, so you could select one who matches your preferences. My experiences with each masseuse were so different, and it seems a little silly that I would need to try them all before finding my favorite. read more

Right off the bat, I will say that the location was not ideal as I wanted to relax on a nice Friday afternoon. The spa is located inside of a gym and you must walk through the gym lobby to reach the spa. The spa advertises a sauna and steam room, however it's separate from the spa area and is located somewhere in the gym area. I opted out (though it was free) because I just didn't feel comfortable walking through the gym area in a robe. There is also some sort of service elevator in the spa area just next to the spa front desk; there was so much ruckus and commotion coming from that area that it was hard to embrace the serenity of the waiting area. The waiting area played some relaxing music and had some ambient lighting. They also provided light refreshments such as infused water and hot tea. I came with a few friends (4 of us including myself) as we were celebrating a birthday. The spa staff was so kind to open a bottle of complimentary champagne and provide fresh strawberries for us in the waiting area as well. My friend called the spa a week prior to book our services and we were split into different appointments times- two people receiving massages during one hour and one person receiving a facial, then the next hour two people getting massages. Because the rooms are directly accessible to the waiting area, you can pretty much hear everything so I heard my friends through the door. Toey was my masseur and she was phenomenal (easily a 10/10). She asked me at the beginning where my problem areas were and where she should focus, and I had her focus on my neck and shoulders as I hold all of my tension there. I requested an hour long Swedish with medium pressure. I was provided complimentary aromatherapy oil in the massage so that was a very nice touch. She massaged my scalp too which was sooo needed. From my head to my toes, she covered it. I felt so much relief at the end of my massage especially because she made sure she spent enough time on my problem area. Absolutely great massage. The gentleman who works the front desk (I think his name was John but I can't remember, sorry!!) was also so kind. He was the one who brought out the refreshments and was periodically checking on me while I was waiting for my service. While the location is not ideal, the service was wonderful. I was pleased with my experience here. The only reason for my 4 stars is only because of the location. Tip: if you have long hair, don't forget to bring a hair tie! read more

Like another review said, the location seemed off. As mentioned, there was a gym entrance you had to walk through to get to the spa. The waiting area within the spa area was nice, quiet, and provided some refreshments. I went early to enjoy the sauna/steam room; however, the steam room was being serviced (no big deal! I get it) and the sauna was co-Ed between the two locker rooms in the gym. No big deal to share the locker room with gym goers, a locker room is a locker room- just wasn't ideal how to get there via service elevator, through the weight gym. Had I known the sauna was co-ed, I might have been a little more prepared with a swimsuit as I didn't feel comfortable wearing only a robe into a co-ed space. Overall experience was plenty fine. Plenty enjoyable and relaxing. Thoroughly enjoyed the massage with Ronnie- left very relaxed. Perfect pressure. Applied a ton of different massage styles, including stretching, that was nice. I came here for a last minute facial while visiting DC over the weekend. Thought I loved my facial, the atmosphere and vibe is not relaxing whatsoever. I do think that my discontent with the location was partly my fault. I did not do enough research or read the reviews enough. THIS IS A GYM SPA, NOT A FULL SERVICE SPA. Though they had a sauna and steam room, and a nice lobby, this is not the location you come and spend the afternoon at (which is what I was looking for). In order to get to the spa you have to walk through a gym lobby and to get to the sauna and steam room you must walk through the weight/gym section. Let me tell you, doing this in a robe is VERY VERY awkward. This is not the relaxation I was looking for. The music in the spa is ruined by the bumping of bad gym music. Now the thing is, my facial and esthetician (Leslie) was amazing. I left with reduced redness and a fresh feeling face. Overall it was a great facial! If I lived in the DC area, I would make this a regular place for a facial, just not for a spa visit. read more

She is very knowledgable of all skin types and has such radiant positive energy. She not only makes you glow when leaving but feel good as well. Meh. Pretty nice ambiance and I like having the Vida locker room for changing, but the quality of the massage combined with the higher costs just leaves me kind of ambivalent about the place. When I first came to see Beatriz Gutierrez, my skin was so bad, I thought I needed to go to a dermatologist. I suffer from hormonal and cyctic acne. Bea worked diligently with me for weeks to clear up my skin to a more manageable state, recommending I do a peel once a week. Now, our focus together is clearing up the pigmentation from all the acne I used to have. Additionally, Bea is extremely kind and accommodating. There have been several times where she worked hard to squeeze me into her hectic schedule. She also understood when scheduling issues came up on my end. I never understood the hype around massages, but I decided to give it a shot because I had been having some issues with a pinched nerve in my quad, and a friend recommended giving a massage a shot. She recommended Dorina at Aura Spa in Logan Circle, who is truly a miracle worker. Dorina has a knack for loosening even the tightest muscles (ones that I would never have known could even be tight in the first place), and I always leave feeling amazing. Incredibly, Dorina was able to tell from the tightness of the side of my calf muscles and the bottom of my feet that I had been putting too much weight on the sides of my feet when I was walking, which I had never noticed before. Once she pointed it out, I became super aware of it and trained myself to stop, which actually ended up solving numerous issues I had been having with my joints and muscles! I'm now a total convert and will be getting massages (with Dorina) regularly from now on. read more

Here's the short: Pros: Showers, steam room, sauna and use of the products that go with that. Lockers with a lock and the people were friendly. Con: Expensive!! Noisy. Fixed table height prevented therapist from getting good leverage and they have terrible footwear. The full story: I got a full body massage with Kelly in late April. I asked for a deep tissue, full body massage for one hour. I was told this is called the "Aura-ssage" and that is costs $95 for one hour. Parking is street or in the Whole Foods Market garage. I wasn't sure if my car was actually allowed in the WFM garage as there's no signs but I parked anyway. I got there a little early and was led downstairs which opens up to the gym, around the corner and to the locker room. The best part about Aura Spa is the showers, steam room and sauna which are all included with the massage. I was given a lock to use with the stylish locker room - which included products galore - and a robe. The "slippers" were, alas, pathetic. Flimsy, useless foam ... sandal shaped something. They were pointless on my size 12 feet so I threw them away and went barefoot. Definitely need to get some new bath shoes there. Back upstairs I was seen right on time. Kelly was friendly, talked very little but the massage was just OK. She used lots of elbows and forearms. I felt kind of bad for her because she's on the short side and couldn't really get the leverage due to the height of the table. I wish the table could've been lowered because nothing beats the hands for a massage. In the massage room they played soothing music and had some aroma going but the walls are very thin and you can hear everything going on the small lobby - additionally every time the bathroom door was slam shut it would jar me. Afterwards it took a long time to check out. They had a new system and it took three people about 8 minutes to figure out how to check me out. This is when I found out there's a "swedish" massage that costs $5 less for one hour ($90) and an intake form that they forgot to give me. I never got the form but it supposedly lets you list which areas you need help with etc. Thankfully Kelly asked about those areas before we got started. I would say if they lowered their prices for a one hour deep tissue massage (under whatever name they give it) to under $80, got some better shoes and sound proofed the rooms it would be a hit. For the price, though, I won't be going back. read more

Dirty facial with Anna. I went for a facial and foot scrub for my birthday with Anna. She scratched up my face she did not explain to me why she was doing what she was doing. At one point with 20 ish min left of my service (30 min facial 30 min foot scrub) she walks out of the room. I sit up and look at the clock when she comes back in 10 mins later she tells me she was putting stuff away and didn't want to "wake" I was not sleeping she had a cloth over my eyes during the service. she proceeds to come over and finish doing my facial I asked her if she washed her hands since she left the room after touching my feet and returned back with washing her hands. she said she always hand sanitizes before she touches anything, however I did not see her clean her hands. I asked her to wash her hand she got an attitude went to the sink and rinsed her hands. I'm pretty disappointed as the reviews were good but I did not see one about Anna. just be aware. read more

Leslie did my facial and she was amazing at assessing my skin. She immediately identified the issues and walked me through the entire session. To be honest, I simply think the DC hair cutting scene is a joke. I've been here 10 years and tried countless places, and realistically do everything I can to schedule my trips home to seattle for when I need to get my hair cut. ITS THAT BAD. This place showed me otherwise. Maybe it was out of luck, but I had a great experience and plan to go back! I'm giving it 4 stars because I know this chain well enough to know you have to do your research on who you ask to cut your hair. I've used them too much and know that they'll give you someone random and unexperienced if you don't know a specific name. She is extremely knowledgeable about all skin and waxing techniques and knows how and when to apply them. I've experienced profound improvements in my skin and simply refuse to go elsewhere for skincare and waxing. She recommends the best products, has impeccable customer service and works quickly to minimize pain. It's no Vegas spa, but it'll do. It's tiny with just 4 treatment rooms. Everyone was super friendly and nice. And they were big into not talking and just letting you relax. I did the Vida Express Package, which was 3 treatments - massage, pedi scrub, and facial. I could've done without the pedi scrub to be honest, but the massage and facial were great. The massage in particular was awesome. While it's not a full spa experience - the kind I loved and miss so much about living in Vegas - it's a great place to relax for a bit and get an excellent massage. read more

If you're a runner go to Thomas!!! He's incredible!!! I came to the aura spa because I was unable to run due to sciatica pain. I tried physical therapy and the pain didn't go away. I first went to Thomas Yates a few months ago for a thirty minute massage. He asked me where my painful spots were and I asked him to focus solely on the one side with the sciatica. He did as I asked and focused on the one side and after 30 minutes I couldn't believe how loose I was on that side. My muscles haven't felt like that in years! It was truly incredible. I continued to see Thomas every week or two for several months. After two or three sessions, I was able to start running again! I've continued to see Thomas and now I'm up to 10 miles! All of the rumors about Jean's healing hands are true. The story: My boyfriend bought me the "Aura Experience" package as an extravagant and luxurious birthday gift. I'm more of a beer than a champagne sort of person, blue collar family, vaguely punk ethos, so I'd never even been in a spa before. However I've been working 12 hour days and weekends for over a year now and my Beloved realized that I needed something surprisingly special. Boy did I get it. Upon entering I was treated like a VIP. Jean described everything that I was going to experience in detail as well as explaining the usual behavioral protocol for each step once I revealed that I'd never been to a spa before (what to wear when, etc.). The full body exfoliation felt like a massage. Seriously. He'd warmed the scrub and all of the towels, and his knowledge of musculature and stress points was already in play. Then? I was smeared in warm, enzyme-rich mud ("I look like a cyborg! WHEE!"), wrapped in many layers of plastic, foil and moist towels and left in a dim room with low music to...sweat. All of this was weird to me, being in a state of undress in front of a stranger, letting someone take care of me rather than the other way around. Jean made me feel comfortable, informed and gently chided me for trying to help him out by rearranging my limbs to accommodate him. He was awesome. The massage, post-luxurious shower? I've never felts so well cared for. He knew the human body so well. Muscles, tendons, points. All of the tiny aches and pains and old injuries that I'd learned to ignore, all of that familiar pain went away. I'm still feeling far less pain. It's been three days. That's CRAZY. Also? My skin is still all soft. Jean is a wizard. Then there was Kristen. The facial was fantastic. I've never had one, but she really knew what she was doing, was instructive and calming and really understood how to handle my sensitive skin. If you're considering getting treatment here, don't hesitate. Yes, the place is in a gym and is small, but it's shrouded in rich curtains, is quiet, luxe, and gorgeous. The experience is more than totally worth it. I just wish I could have tipped them more. read more

My boss decided to do something nice for the office for our hard work and scheduled a spa session w/Aura for Thursday, May 21 and when the receptionist called yesterday they LOST the reservation! How do you just LOSE a reservation for 6 people?! I'm so upset, because they didn't even bother to offer to fix it, and I'd had OTHER spa like appts today and tomorrow that I'd cancelled JUST to make it to this one! HOW INCONSIDERATE, AURA! First, I was really looking forward to this, because the people I work with really deserve it and my back is on fire. Second, RESPECT the time of your clients. We have other things to do, and our time is important as well. I have lost out on the appts I cancelled because it is too last minute, and you all are incapable of maintaining a competent scheduling system. SO disappointed.
