Wonderful customer service! I flew in for a meeting, and they were able to accommodate me that day. Lari, the receptionist, provided exceptional customer service from start to finish. Jordan, my stylist, gave me the best haircut and blow-dry I have had in years. He listened to my needs and executed everything beautifully. Lari and Jordan could have a book on properly managing customer service. I am considering finding more reasons to visit DC so I may frequent this salon. If you are the type of person that is consistently late to appointments, disrespectful to service staff, and complain about paying for missed appointments, do not come to this salon. I'm giving them 1 star for the TERRIBLE customer service! BUT, 5 starts to the hair stylists who are amazing. My complaint is because I called to cancel for the first time an appointment with 3 days in advance. But I was met with an extremely RUDE and impolite customer service person. She complaint about not having my credit card info, but your staff had not previously asked for my information. I believe I am in my right to know what my credit card information would be used for. I also asked for clarification if My credit card was going to be charged, which I would have agreed to if that was the policy. She responded by telling me that I would not be charged, but that it was also up to the colorist - which is a contradiction and created confusion. I just wanted a simple clarification that she couldn't give me. She concluded the call by RUDELY hanging up the phone on me! This is a humiliating way to treat your customers, and made me truly disappointed of the salon. Peter is amazing with color and I love how he thinks about the full year ahead and planning the color with the next phases and season in mind. He's absolutely obsessed with getting your color right AND keeping your hair healthy and as protected as possible. I cannot express how seriously he takes his craft: as long as I've been his client (5+ years), he's always learning new tricks, techniques, and improving on perfection. He can be bold, subtle, or anything in-between: I recommend a consultation first to show him colors or inspiration photos and then schedule your appointment separately. He will contemplate your color in the meantime, no joke. (If you have to wait--and you might, his clientele is fiercely loyal--do so.) One80 is actually a haven for those of us who color our hair and love switching it up or bumping that natural shade a few notches for more oomph. Remi is really wonderful at precision cuts. I've seen him a half dozen times at this point and one time I made the mistake of going elsewhere and really regretted it because he's the best. I go in the mornings before work, usually the first appointment of the day, and Remi is always waiting for me even though I'm early or on time! I am thankful for him and for this salon. Today, September 2, 2021, I went to one80 Salomln and Peter Petera did my color. I called a week ago and the receptionist told me the price was $125.00 with a blow dry with Peter for a single process color. I asked if she had Inoa and she said yes. She never mentioned it was $150. Peter came up to me when my color was processing and told me that Inoa was $150. I told him that the receptionist told me a different price and never mentioned the increase in price for the Inoa color. I flatly refused to pay anymore than was quoted. He said then dry your own hair. I began drying my hair when the shampoo girl came up to me and began drying my hair. She was almost done and Peter told her he would finsh drying my hair. I reiterated that I would not be paying the $150, but $125. I went up to the receptionist and she said to me, that will be $150, and I told her no it will be $125. She got very angry and went over to the owner and she came back and was so incredibly nasty and said. You owe $125. I never left Peter a tip. One80 is a RIP-OFF... My advice is to stay the hell away from this incredibly dishonest salon read more

This is the first salon in DC where I left thinking, "Finally, a salon I'll be returning to!" But before writing my review, in typical Virgo fashion, I wanted to give it some time and see how I settle into the new cut. My issue was that I have naturally dry, curly hair and wanted a cut that would allow me to maintain my natural curls, while also giving me the ability to wear it straight. My previous stylist (at Immortal Beloved--see review) textured my hair, when she shouldn't have. It made it hard to manage and I was not able to wear my hair curly as I wanted. Thankfully, the hair gods brought me Remi! He evened everything out and gave me much needed advice on product. I really enjoyed the experience. He didn't try to make needless small talk and was just polite and professional. I left feeling energized and beautiful. My initial impression was correct--I will definitely be returning for my next cut. read more

I have gone to one80 salon for two different cuts with Lydia. She's awesome hands-down and gave me a beautiful shag cut, which I wanted (it has been difficult to find someone who cuts this way in DC). However, for my last appointment I was not pleased with the service given. I had received a text message confirming my appointment for 11:30am. I arrived 10 minutes late because I had not been able to find parking (it is truly a nightmare) and gave up last minute (after trying for 15 minutes) and paid the $25 parking garage fee. When I arrived the front desk person told me that they had texted me. I said okay well I know I'm 10 minutes late and I apologized and explained the parking situation. I was then told that my appointment was at 11am and that I had arrived "too late." I showed the text message that I had received for an 11:30am appointment and was then told that there seemed to have been a mix-up and I could not be seen that day because Lydia's 12pm appointment was already here. At this point, I am on the verge of tears because as a mom of 2 kids it is nearly impossible to arrange childcare to have a haircut and I had been looking forward to this appointment for 2 months (I booked this appointment at the beginning of October for the end of November). The front desk person then went to find Lydia who apologized and seemed genuinely sorry, and then she went to ask a colleague if they might be able to fit me in. This was very kind, however, after that person said no I was simply directed to make a new appointment with this other person since Lydia had no more appointments for the next couple weeks. This is all well and good, however, I felt like they were not taking responsibility that this was THEIR fault (texting the wrong time) and that they could have done more to make amends for this (e.g., give me 20% of the next appointment and actually apologize and state that this WAS their fault). So bye one80 salon as I will NO longer be going to your establishment nor recommending anyone to you. I hope this is helpful for others in making a decision about this salon. read more

After my previous hair-coloring experience (and subsequent Yelp review), Jeremy, colorist and one of the owners, contacted me apologizing for my experience - which is always a great sign of a good and caring business, as well as just some excellent customer service. I then set-up an appointment to have him do my color. He was friendly and professional. He listened to what I had to say and gave his professional advice. He studied my hair to see how the color had faded, etc. And he updated me as to what was next in the process, how long, etc., in addition to offering a beverage, offering to put on a different TV channel, etc. The end result was fantastic! No need to do anything more to it. My hair is bright and vivid and pretty. And even my eyebrows turned out perfectly the first time. Hooray! I officially have definitely found my new colorist. I was then taken to Remi (the other owner) for my blowout. He was very nice and did a great job. When your blowout still looks good days later, it's definitely a job well done. And I'll be seeing Remi later this month for - eek - a cut. I'v been holding out way too long - time to let someone in DC take some scissors to my hair. But I'm feeling quite confident that it will be awesome. And when it came time to check out, I was told I owed nothing - which was completely unexpected and not necessary. Now that is some seriously awesome customer service. That is an above and beyond, classy Vegas customer service move. Color me happy and pleased! Pretty hair in DC = mission accomplished. read more

Buyer beware: One80 salon failed to color my hair properly in a Friday afternoon appointment two days before my departure to India for my book launch celebration in Mumbai. This establishment promotes bigotry and is the embodiment of racial white supremacy in Washington, D.C. My colorist, Peter Perera, gave me an ambray color pattern despite the fact that I'm a male with short dark brown-almost black hair and the color treatment and texture was completely unflattering to me. I looked like a porcupine. This was the third time Peter colored my hair and during our consultation I asked for him to build on the first treatment. When the session was complete, I shared with Peter my displeasure, but he dismissed my concern and was off to his next client. I left the salon and within minutes I called the receptionist and told her I would like to return to have my hair properly treated. I returned to the salon and Peter came and asked what was wrong and refused to see me that day despite me spending $240 for color and $60 in tips. At first Peter said he was completely booked and refused to help. But when I pleaded with him, he snapped at me and demanded I follow him to a section of the salon where there were no other people working on other clients. Peter said, "You want to go brighter." I explained to him how I wanted him to dye my hair the color as the first time and then give me three or four streaks." He didn't listen to me and then turned my hair so bright that I looked like a leprechaun. That day I arrived around 1 pm for my appointment and didn't leave the salon until 8 pm. My day was wasted. The next morning, Saturday, I arrived at One80 salon to speak with a manager and try to get my hair fixed. Remy, one of the owners, approached me and I opened my cell phone and began explaining to him in a normal casual voice. I explained to him how Peter tried to blame me and accuse me of lying, saying I showed no discomfort with my hair. Remy replied, "Actually, customers are wrong. I know my employee. He's right." At that moment, I felt betrayed and hurt and realized that no matter what I do or say, he was convinced. Remy behaved like an intolerant person. Remy said I needed to leave and never come back. I said, "What do you mean? You're not going to offer services to me. You don't provide hair color treatment to ethnic men of color?" He replied, "No we don't. We don't need your business and I have the right to refuse anybody." Wow. I said, "Okay, thank you. You know you've just proven yourself to be a racist. You cannot deny an entire class of people from services that are only available to white women." Remy said, "We've reimbursed your money. Its time for you to go." I left the salon broken and hurt and realized yet again that America was made only for white people. One80 salon didn't even give me a full refund. They charged me $240 and returned only $210. One80 salon's actions constitutes racial white supremacy inferiority complex. I urge all women, gays, minorities, and white persons of liberal conscience to steer clear from One80 Salone. When I asked Remy on multiple occasions if he and his team treat their white heterosexual clientele the way they mistreated me, they remained silence and refused to answer me. Why would Peter Perera, Remy, and others affiliated with One80 Salon want to be known as a small business that doesn't put a premium customer satisfaction? One80 Salon may resent me for being a prominent LGBTQ+ activist and author of the debut novel THE CARPET WEAVER. Peter and Remy probably can't stand that a gay Afghan refugee from Muslim heritage is being profiled in magazines and newspapers. I went to Jeremy at One80 salon with a head full of zebra-striped highlights needing desperately to be fixed. I had an event coming up in short order and he managed to squeeze me in-and wow! He did a phenomenal job. He fixed my stripes and gave me a beautiful shade of blond that looks natural! I really can't recommend him enough. The entire staff was courteous and professional. First I was told by a polite young man I could certainly make an appointment, just hold for possible times. Then after holding a woman got on the phone and in rude terms told me actually I could not make an appointment, the previous gentleman was not a receptionist but "in training", and they didn't take appointments over the phone for new customers who had to be "vetted." Update (3.30.17) I received a wonderful compliment from another salon. I needed a last-minute blowout and couldn't make it into One80. This other salon said that they would love to earn my business and trim my hair in the same style as my current salon (i.e. One80). When I told them how long it's been since my last cut (far too long!) they were amazed. They said that the cut lasted well. I attribute this to Alanea and One80. --------- I've been a client for 7+ years. My current stylist is Alanea. I believe in the value of a good haircut - solid haircuts last longer, and I value the workmanship of the hair stylist. One80 is a place where you find that and more. I've received nothing but the best service from this salon-spa. Alanea specializes in hair extensions and has a good eye and amazing suggestions. I've had a number of different styles, or variations of styles, from her and I'm able to trust her. I walk-in and let her "do your thing" because she's the expert. She listens well, and when I told her that my new job was the "face of the organization" she took that to heart and created a style that would work with my lifestyle and the new position I had. Since their expansion into other services, I have frequented One80 for nails, threading, and more. One80 is personable and they focus on the client they have at that moment - not trying to rush through while forsaking quality. They take American Express, which is a big bonus, and means that I'll be making more frequent trips to One80! read more

I'm always happy to see local businesses support the local charities and contribute to the community - it's so important - and I was happy to see the salon make such a generous gift to the charity. I used the certificate this past weekend and had a FABULOUS appointment with Carl Ray - WOW!!! Carl did my makeup for my wedding 6 years ago, and I was so excited to see him again. He has always been an absolutely perfect makeup artist. My makeup always looks flawless when he is finished, and he teaches you how to work with the products yourself at home. I can not recommend him more highly. Plus, he is always so nice - I always look forward to seeing him. F+ I worst experience of my life!!! Seriously, I left the salon traumatized, it was that bad. Cyrille just like the other girl below mention he spends a lot of time on your hair. First of all, I had a long day at the office and I really wanted to pamper myself and look good. I went exhausted thinking that I was in the hands of professional. I was fooled and blinded by the glitz of One 80's website. I came in short notice for a blow dry and style. Its not that hard!!!!! After the initial blow dry and flat iron he proceeded to walk away. And I was like what happen to the style. Then he looked at me crazy and told me that I was finished. WTF... I thought he was joking and said your not going have me leave your chair looking like this. He then came up with a list of excuses from the texture of my hair, to the length that my hair has grown out of the style and it was extremely heavy in the back. Blaming his own inability and lack of skills on my hair. Lets be real some stylist don't do curly thick hair and I asked him repeatedly if he was sure if he can do it. My hair is not coarse and generally its easy to do. I did my own hair in my profile pic a week prior to going to the salon. Some how, I was under the delusion that his an award wining stylist and knew what he was doing and give him the ok to cut my hair. So he went Edward scissor hands in the back of head. I never seen anyone cut like him before (and I been to many upscale salons)... I don't even want to get started on how the front look. I was exhausted and the manager told me it could be fixed with a "product" so I left feeling humiliated. The next day I woke up and looked at my hair and realized that he cut it in such a way that it made my hair look damage and unhealthy. Needless to say I cried and booked an appointment the next day at Ultra. My hair is naturally blonde and I needed low -lights or more depth. He turned my hair the color of poop. He told me it looked fantastic and I would just love it. As good as it gets! In the ways that foodies are foodies, I'm a hairee. Which means that I like to think I know a little bit about hair. Of course, I'm an amateur, and as such, I've come to be completely devoted to Fred here at 180. He transformed my hair - he is so meticulous, he is almost like an architect. He takes his time. I went back in for a trim yesterday. What would have taken fifteen minutes took approximately an hour for him just because he does such a wonderful job. I don't like to use the term "detail oriented" because I think it is complete bullshizz...but...Fred is DE. TAIL. ORI. ENTED. Not to a fault, of course, because he is just so dayum good! Hair styling is his career, but he's also a great conversationalist. I never thought I would be one of those chicks who claims her hair stylist is her new best friend, but I guess I am now. Beyond the hairstylists, the staff is magnificent. The salon is gorgeous. The whole atmosphere is pretty laid back (not "stuffy", as stated before). It isn't an irritating "in your face fabulous" experience as some salons can be, with loud music and flash flash flash everywhere. One80 is calm, cool and collected. read more

The owner, Jeremy is a true artist, entrepreneur, and passionate small business owner. His color is calculated to perfection. I've been seeing Jeremy and his colleagues for a year and the health of my hair has markedly improved. I've listened to him do color consults on new clients and he is respectful and constructive. I went to see Fred to deal with my curly hair upon reading reviews here as well as the magazine articles on the salon's website. I'm in the process of growing out my hair, and felt ready to pay extra for an expert. I basically joined Yelp so I could throw my two cents in about this salon, and pay it forward, etc... Fred gave me one of the best, if not the best, haircuts I've ever had. Most hairdressers give me a by the book cut, following what seems to be a formula for long layers, but which doesn't necessarily work for my curly hair and I inevitably end up with mushroom head. Fred was a great conversationalist, and there weren't any awkward moments. As others here say, he is an architect, or perhaps he cultivates bonsai in his free time as that is his approach to cutting - he studies how your hair falls, and then snips. He creates an overall shape - working with the hair, not against it. He understands curly hair. Also, he didn't blow my hair straight, which is a first. Most stylists blow it straight b/c that's how their cut looks best and it's instant gratification for the customer. Fred blew my hair curly, very gently diffusing the hair, and then styling it around my face. When I left the salon, It looked and felt like hair commercial hair--the curls were soft and flowy. It was lovely. Since then, I've been very happy with it as well. I really don't fuss with anymore, it just sort of falls into place. read more

Let me start by praising the wonderful stylist and colorist I saw at this salon. Both Lydia and Peter have provided me with incredible experiences at One80. I left both times with wonderful cuts/color and total excitement about future cuts and colors at One80. Lydia is amazing! As is Peter -- who is truly a once in a lifetime type find -- it was a pleasure to spend hours in his chair! Unfortunately, a misunderstanding involving the referral fees was completely inappropriately handled and really soured my experience. The woman who handled this interaction was incredibly rude and dismissive of me, speaking down to me as she explained how very simple practices work. Essentially, I was initially told that referral fees worked one way way back when I first went to the salon in early 2018, only to find out upon a return visit in mid 2018 that they did not work the way I had been told. The salon kindly offered to make up for their miscommunications by upholding what I had originally been told -- however now, 5 months later, the woman mishandling customer relations refused to honor what I had been told by the salon and was happy to cancel my appointment. Truly disappointing. I'd like to add that I don't usually review places, but I was so deeply saddened by my recent experience at what should be a top notch salon on all fronts that I felt compelled to share. read more

One80 is trying to be a hip salon, yet it always felt a bit stuffy to me. There's no doubt the decor is chic, but that's not really why one goes to a salon. The shampooers are generally pleasant and hey, they offer complimentary coffee or water while you wait! The product is nice and probably expensive, but this place never won me over. No one seems to be having a good time at One80. The receptionist was very helpful in setting me up with a stylist, though, and it's that stylist I've followed to a different salon. If you do go to One80, remember to bring cash--they don't accept tips on cards and they won't overcharge your card and give you cash back, either. read more
