This place is doing it all right: Masks required for clients and staff, physical distancing, check-in temperature check, risk-factor screening questionnaire, hand sanitization, and ample client spacing throughout the salon. They have clearly been thoughtful about what they are doing and how. Russell gave me a great cut and brought me back to my usual self, despite the at-home butchery I did a month prior with a cheap set of beard clippers... It's not been three months. I just wanted to update my review from March. Management's response on Google conveniently made it seem that they were going to do something to rectify the situation. They never once contacted me. Not to offer a free treatment for my fried hair or to fix the color that was messed up by Tayla. It's not been three months and my hair has grown out. I just wanted to post a picture of how terribly my hair was damaged. You can see that I completely lost my curl pattern on one side of my head. This is due to Tayla's negligence when lifting my hair with bleach. You can VERY clearly tell what side was in the plastic wrap (which I still think is an insane way to safely lift hair and so do the other stylists I discussed this with when I went to get my hair fixed) for far too long. Disappointing that I was not personally contacted at all to fix this... just a general reply. Clearly they don't care about customers. Take your business elsewhere. I went to Pink dynamite and had my botched hair color fixed by Theresa whose prices were incredibly fair. If you're reading this, go there. read more

This was my first visit to the salon and sadly it will be my last. The salon itself is quite nice, and the staff were all very friendly, unfortunately I can't get past the fact that the stylist didn't cut my hair in the style that we both agreed to (a graduated bob), even though we discussed it at length with photos and a style he seemed very happy to be cutting, and I ultimately paid for a very expensive trim instead. The stylist was so hyper and loud and overly energetic that I was exhausted when I left and perhaps it was his constant craziness that meant he forgot what style he was supposed to be cutting. He was a very nice man, but didn't give me the service I paid for and his personality is far too hyper and it was just not a relaxing, pleasant experience. Let me say the last time i went here i had Marc and he did a great job with my hair, i loved it. I booked again with him for a bang trim but instead was scheduled with Sam, i'm not picky though so i saw no issue with that as i just wanted my basic curtain bangs brushed up. What happened was absolutely awful, she cut my bangs so short that the stick up on their own and only letting my hair grow will fix it. I left the salon crying. I got my hair done on 8/27 by Karen (who was nice). I asked for a base color and root touchup to cover my grays as well as moving up my balayage because it had grown out. But I asked for it to be more lived in so it was lower maintenance. When asked about color she asked if I liked the blonde that my hair was when I came in and she could color match that I said that would be amazing since I really liked the blonde that I had it had just grown out. The issue is none of these things happened. I can still see my grays fully, the color is 100% different not even a little close to what I came in with, and it is not lived in at all, it goes all the way up to my roots with little to no blending. I paid and tipped regularly but $368 (tip not included) is A LOT of money to spend on something you 1. Don't like and 2. Didn't ask for. 2 stars for Ana the assistant because she was very nice and the haircut itself isn't bad. read more

i loved every minute of my experience here. i got a wax and color/blow dry. Kat did my wax and gave me perfect eyebrows. i can't get over how good they look. we had such a wonderful conversation and she hugged me after. i felt so at home! Karen colored my hair and absolutely killed it. all i said was i wanted to go dark; she gave me a soft black that looks so natural. not only did she blow dry my hair, but she actually gave me gorgeous waves. we talked for so long as well--but it didn't feel forced or awkward. i also got to meet Chai, the receptionist's pup. Georgetown Aveda not only made me feel like a million bucks, it made me feel welcome and loved. i can honestly say i've never had a better experience anywhere in my life. please do yourself a favor and go here. read more

Do not go here for color unless you want patchy, brassy and uneven hair. This was a major lesson for me in doing research into salons before showing up. I asked for subtle, ashy brown highlights. The pictures here should speak for themselves. I had to go in twice to try to get it fixed and each time it got worse. I'm currently at another salon fixing the damage and I was asked if the person who did this has a license. On top of everything, I was overcharged. Definitely never going back. read more

Insane experience. DO NOT GO HERE for blonde hair. Manager is additionally not going to help if they do something crazy to your hair. I went in to have brassiness in blonde hair corrected. Stylist suggested going darker then lightening. I agreed to a dark blonde toner. Below are before and after photos and the vision photo I gave them. I have now learned that this plan was NOT an advisable plan to begin with as dying bleached hair and then immediate-bleaching you cannot predict the outcome. Additionally it will kill your hair. Lastly, it looks like he mistakenly chose a very red color. Manager was incredibly unprofessional. Save your money. Save your hair. Don't go here- there are too many great salons in Georgetown. read more

I told the sales rep that I am looking for not a temporary hair boost solution but something that is helping revitalize my hair growth over time. I said SPECIFICALLY I do mot want any styling spray. The product I was recommended and bought was a styling spray. I tried to get a refund but apparently they do not accept any returns but somehow that was not explained to me at all. No returns are accepted anywhere in aveda store either. Really shitty experience read more

I am not a person to write bad reviews; but unfortunately the salon has a low quality service. I went to do coloring, was advised a specific price but then when we were done, they asked about 45$ more. On the other hand, they are not well immersed in the hair space. The color was not as asked; and the blow-dry was very not as good, I got frizzy hair an hour afterwards. Unfortunately, with all due respect, I do not recommend this salon! read more

Verdict: better off setting your money on fire. You could not pay me to ever step foot in this salon again. I was hoping I wouldn't have to write this review, but when I reached out to the owner regarding the most heinous haircut ever (see below) he blamed me for not selecting the most senior stylist at the salon. For a 80$ haircut I left with one side of my hair 3 inches longer than the other. And it was my fault apparently. As you can see from the photos below, my hair is completely lopsided. I'm not sure how you could mess up someone's hair so badly. I called the salon to come in and fix it -- they chopped it all off and it is still lopsided. The woman who fixed my hair said it's the worst haircut she's ever seen in her career. I spent 5 hours, over 100$, and many tears, all to ruin my hair. I asked for a trim. It will take over a year to grow back and my hair is ruined. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a salon. I encourage you to go literally anywhere else. read more

My favorite part of going to Aveda Salon is spending time with Zak, not only he is one of the best hair colorist & stylist.. he has the best personality. OMG! Just finished another visit for the best scalp and hair treatment at the Aveda salon at 1325 Wisconsin ave. in Georgetown, and my hair never felt softer and healthier, and moreover, my scalp is finally on the way to healing after a year of recovering from Sepsis. My scalp had been feeling like sandpaper (literally) for about 10months!!! The hair products at the Aveda Salon are as natural as can be (I'm guessing about 90-98% botanical) products for the hair. It's not just the products. It's the talent of the hair stylists and the support staff. Mariam is my shampoo person the majority of the time (sometimes it's Diana or Nellie, or Anna), They are all good. Mariam has a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge, and is just plain excellent! (I call it therapeutic) Thomas, my go to stylist, is an excellent detail-oriented stylist and really knows what's best for your hair. He's been in the biz a long time. He actually listens to me and gives me his best advise. He also has a great sense of humor. I highly recommend him. All the stylists have many years in the business and at this Aveda Salon are excellent. To name a few, Mark (Thomas' brother), Rick, John, Salome, Michael. I don't them all by name, but I see a lot of great hair cuts and styles walking out of that Salon. Lot's of repeat customer too. On top of all this the staff if a great multi-national talent, along with English, several languages are spoken here, French (of course), various dialects of Spanish, Turkish, Vietnamese, I'm guessing Hindu, and various other Asian languages. The Salon is very clean and nicely appointed. I love the wall and table full of great hair and skin products. I buy a few bars of the natural soaps each time I'm there and the body lotions, which are very rich and effective for anyone with dry skin. The staff is very knowledgeable about all the products and make very good recommendations. read more

I had a perm and cut and can safely say it's the worst hairdo I've ever had. Despite telling Rick that I wanted long big curls, showing a recent picture where I curled my hair with a curling wand, and explicitly saying that I do not like small curls, I got these extremely tight curls with my hair severely damaged that I couldn't even comb through. I have been using hair repair products for 5 days in a row, my hair still looks like it's been fried and you can start a fire with it. The chemicals also burned my skin and burned off some baby hairs. read more

Went to Tayla, a junior stylist who was very nice, but the style was lackluster. She didn't take the time to thoroughly dry and round brush my hair, so it just fell flat with barely any shape. I asked if she could curl with an iron after and she kindly did, but the style was still unimpressive. She also didn't know how to properly cut curtain bangs, so another stylist had to come over and help. Overall just disappointing and I won't be returning. read more

I had a haircut and color with Thomas. When I arrived I explained that I wanted a specific darker shade of pink. He told me that the permanent pink color needed to be special ordered since they only had semi-permanent. I decided to get the cut and then come back in five days for the color. Thomas immediately got on the phone to find the perfect pink color for me while I got my hair washed. He then listened to everything I asked for the haircut and shaved the side exactly as I asked. He cut beautiful layers in my hair. He was really funny and cool to talk to. When I returned for the color he had mixed three different shades of pink to get the perfect dimension. He did a great job of giving me exactly what I wanted while also giving me advice about how realistic my vision was. I will definitely book Thomas again. Also, Miriam was great too! She washed my hair and was super nice and friendly. Definitely call ahead if you want a permanent non-natural color so you can make sure they have it. Also I would love if this salon would allow tips through credit cards and not just Venmo/cash. Fortunately I have Venmo, but I can imagine not having it and having to run to the ATM to tip! read more

I called Aveda as a possible first time customer looking to color my hair. I spent 10 minutes on the phone with the manager being practically yelled and lectured at because I asked about the diversity of their staff!! The manager Adrian Anthony is unprofessional and rude. I told her I have highly textured hair, she told me to go to one of their new stylists who is unrated and has no portfolio. Anyone with textured hair knows this is a bad situation. I was hesitant about booking with this stylist. The only stylist with a diverse portfolio she said was "expensive and perhaps I should go somewhere I could afford". Very rude and highly unprofessional!!! The manager has no respect for potential clients. I recommended anyone with textured hair stay away from this place. It is not meant for you. Turned off from this place purely on the basis of customer service. If I could rate zero stars I would. I will be filing a complaint with the Better business bureau immediately!! read more

Tried the salon on 3 different occasions, all for blow drys and I chose a different stylist each time on purpose. Overall experience was acceptable, but barely. All 3 times, it was a very quick blow dry that didn't last for a day. (I am not a hairstylist but as someone that gets regular blowdrys, I am pretty sure this is because they don't take their time to completely dry the hair before starting.) Also, all 3 times, there was only 1 person washing hair which caused all the clients to wait for 10 min extra in average. It is an ok spot for a last minute blow dry (it was very easy to get a last minute appointment- in fact I even had stylist choices) but the service does not match the prices that are the same in very good salons in the area. read more

I got my makeup done by Tayla there for a big gala where I had to do a lot of speaking. After I left, my eyes were watering and I felt like I had a cloudy film over my eyes for the rest of the night. I put in many eye drops, but nothing helped. This completely ruined my evening and made it almost impossible to read my lines and made it very uncomfortable to interact with people. I've since tried to get in touch with the owner to request a refund, but they won't return my emails or phone calls about this problem. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience there. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I have been to one other Aveda location and had great experiences so I decided to try them out in Georgetown and I COULD NOT have been more disappointed. Absolutely terrible service. My hair is extremely simple to cut, I asked for a clean-up trim with no layers, just straight across and Ziyat did a terrible job. They washed my hair in less than 5 minutes, leaving it feeling no cleaner than when it started. No heat protectant or detangler was used on my hair either. When I sat down for the cut I was informed that it would be dried first and then cut, which I have NEVER had anyone else do before and will certainly never let anyone do again. No product was used prior to blow drying and Ziyat was extremely rough with my hair, yanking it and pulling it with no regard for my hair, scalp or neck. After a terrible job blow drying, he started chopping off chunks of my hair BEFORE asking me how I part my hair, which may I add is to the side NEVER down the middle. After multiple failed attempts, I took the comb to correctly part it myself. He continued chopping off chunks not ever again fixing the part leaving my straight hair jagged and lopsided. There is no way he is a trained professional. Finally, after chopping off my hair, he decided he was done. From the hair wash chair until the end took less than 20 minutes because ZERO CARE was put into this haircut. And yet I was charged more than double what I have ever paid at the other Aveda location. I will NEVER NEVER NEVER come here again. Don't waste your money. You are better off cutting it yourself. read more

BE CAREFUL WHICH STYLIST YOU GO TO!! I had an appointment today with Marc... who has apparently been at this location for a long time. I came in and he spent the first 15 minutes while I was sitting there telling me that he couldn't color my hair pink even though I had called in advance to make sure they had the pink that I wanted and could bleach it. He spoke to every other stylist in the salon, asking if we could dye my hair this color before I could convince him. He started bleaching my hair with what I later found out was just pure bleach (another stylist told me bleach should always be diluted). Marc put globs in his palms and started scrubbing it into my scalp. After a while of this, the bleach began to burn my scalp and the pain was excruciating. When I repeatedly told him it hurt, he told me my scalp was just sensitive. He then used a comb on my bleach-covered hair, scraping my scalp and making the bleach burn my scalp even more. At this point I was in so much pain that I asked Marc to rinse out the bleach immediately. At the sink, a very nice hair washer and another stylist asked if I was ok, and I explicitly told them no. After explaining my horrible experience to them, they paired me with a very nice stylist named Michael who then bleached my hair calmly and patiently with a brush, which Marc did not do. As Michael was working on my hair, Marc continued to hover around us and ask how I was feeling, but never apologized. I'd been in the salon for three hours at this point, but my scalp was so irritated from Marc's "bleach shampoo" that Michael told me he couldn't finish my hair and I should come back tomorrow, making this a two day process. My experience with Michael was great and I would come to him again, but I would never trust Mark with anyone's head ever. I came to Aveda to have my hair dyed professionally, and my experience with Marc left me wondering if he even has a license to dye hair. It is a pain I have never experienced. Please do not do this to yourself; be very careful about who you choose your appointments with. read more

Not only did they CHEMICALLY BURN MY HAIR WITH BLEACH (pictures attached) but they absolutely ruined my hair. I came in for a balayage on my brunette hair. I was a new customer here, but I have gotten balayage many times. The atrocities that were done to my hair were most definitely NOT balayage. The pictures I have attached are exactly how I left the salon, no editing, no retouching, NOTHING. And no that isn't my oily roots, that is literally leave- in conditioner that the stylist NEVER WASHED OUT. Oh! and the best part! They made me pay $265 for this to be done to my hair. And when I called for a refund, the stylist ADMITTED that he knew my hair was messed up and it was only then that they finally agreed to do a PARTIAL refund. Well guess what, it's been TWO MONTHS and I haven't seen a dime. So I thought it was only fair to let you all know. I'll just let the pictures speak for themselves now. read more

DO NOT come here for a haircut or frankly any service considering how terrible their customer service is. I should've read the reviews but decided to walk in for a hair cut knowing the reputation of Aveda salons in NY. I had long healthy hair and showed the stylist pictures of long cut layers, which I didn't think was a complicated request, only to end up with a dated mullet-looking choppy hair. I was devastated. The hair was made very thin at the bottom that all i can do now is wear it up with pins securing the top part which was cut short relative to the bottom. I called to see if I can receive a refund and was told about their ridiculous no refund policy and only redo within the first two weeks of the cut. No acknowledgement or willingness to hear my complaint, which really tells you how much they care about their customers. The manager was defensive and immediately resorted to explaining the salon's no refund policy, which probably means they receive complaints frequently and do not care about retaining their customers. I will be telling all friends and family to avoid this salon. read more
