Did two walk in pedicures on a Tuesday afternoon around 4:30. The place was empty minus two technicians and one person getting their nails finished up. We were able to get taken right away. Both technicians were very thorough and professional. The salon is very clean and spacious. My only note is that the music playing in the background was a little bit elevator music vibes. But other than that a great experience. Pedicures are $48 for gel. Would happily support the salon in the future. read more

They reuse the toe separators the hygienic practices in this place is atrocious but I guess you get what you pay for. When I saw the eyebrow set up I walked out. Tools are dirty and reused and they get annoyed when you say something. After they use the hot towel on you, they wipe the floor with it. I've never seen anything like this. read more

They were super sweet and kept trying me to go wIth a brighter color, lol. I kept it simply with a beige but should have paid attention to the red flags...they told me that they couldn't do nail art with SNS. My nail tech also put SEVERAL layers on my nails and it felt too thick. The fInal layer didn't seem quite right either - the whole process was a bit janky. When I arrived to the salon, I asked one last time because I want to get my nails done in the way my best friend(a very talented nail tech in Utah) has been doing on me. Tracy did exactly what I asked - thank goodness for being persistent and Tracy knowing exactly what I wanted! I am so satisfied with the result and went home and told all my roommates about Tracy. V Nails is the best cheap nail salon in the city. It's a very no-frills establishment, and a trip here will not be luxurious. But I also got a great pedicure for $25 on a Sunday afternoon, so I can't complain. This place is an 8/10 on the cleanliness scale. They use fresh tools for everyone, which is the most important, and Windex the tubs between people. But they also use communal paraffin wax, which doesn't bother me, but it might to others. I really liked my pedicure. I had just left brunch and was a little buzzed and forgot to ask for my pedicurist's name, but she was awesome. This was my first of the season so my feet needed some love and she did a great job. She took a lot of time on my nail beds, got my calluses taken care of, and when I accidentally smudged my nail on the drying rack she was super attentive. Came with wax and sugar scrub too. And it was $25! They must run a Sunday special or something because that is unheard of. It's definitely not a high end spot. The scheduling is a little haphazard, there's almost no waiting space, and the polish colors for traditional polish are a little limited. (There's a wide range of gel and dip though!) First time going to V Nails and it won't be the last. A friend had recommended it to me a while ago and I finally got around to trying it. (1) $35 gel manicure - let me tell you, for DC that is a steal! I usually get Groupon deals for that exact price for gel nails (2) they do walk ins (major plus) - I knew this but did call at 11:30am to make an appointment at 2pm, because I had plans later and wanted to make sure I wasn't in a line just in case (there wasn't one (3) it may be a small space but they clearly have their stuff figured out - they are packed with nail equipment wall to walk, so if you're looking to make sure you get in and get your mani and pedi (or waxes) done, you are good to go. This is a small space that doesn't act small - i.e., don't expect a long wait, don't expect only 4 tables to be open for the space. I only glanced, but maybe 7 pedi chairs, and 5 mani spaces? I didn't look that much (4) some comments say "it doesn't look that great". I'm sorry, but at the cheaper prices, location, size, and sign style didn't let you know this isn't some "fancy place", then I don't know what to tell you. I personally would rather pay for quality, not aesthetic of a space. They are clearly clean: Their nail equipment (before used on me) were in vacuum sealed post-wash/sanitize individual bags (you know what I'm talking about if you've seen them before). After paying, I did go to an ATM to get my nail tech his tip, came back and dropped it off. I love my new neighborhood, the neighborhood nail spot? Not so much. The service is courteous enough, but the spa has some malfunctioning equipment and is poorly planned out, resulting in what I can only label some - ahem - interesting traffic jams. I recommend V's Nails for their eyebrow waxing; but, sadly, not their pedicures and gel manicures. The paraffin wax and leg massages that accompany each are a nice touch, but it does not make up for the shoddy job on the nail painting. Both times I had gel manicures done here, the nails chipped in under 7 days. I am used to my gel manicures lasting 14-20 days without actually chipping. I also experienced chipping in less than three days after getting a pedicure. So, if you're on the hunt for a nail spot that is open later than most and which will make your digits look great for 24-48 hours, you've come to the right spot, As for me? I had an very good experience here today. I'm new to the city and was looking for somewhere to do my acrylic fill. I walked in and they were busy so we scheduled an appointment when it was convenient. My technician Annie was quick but very careful, nails were polished to perfection. Overall I'm pleased. Only cons would be that I'm accustom to chatting with my tech which didn't happen here. And it is a bit more than I would normally pay for a fill. But I will definitely be back. It was my first time there and honestly you are getting a lot of value for your money. Tracy did my pedicure and she was super pleasant and asked me questions. I had practically a one minute wait on a Saturday early evening so I was pleased about that. My pedicure felt like it took just the right amount of time. Not too quick because you do not want to feel like you are being rushed but also not too long because you have places to go after this. I wanted a design but myself and the lady who was going to do one couldn't decide on a design we liked so i didn't get one that time but when i go back i will be prepared. The paint application wasn't completely even, and the nail shape was jagged and uneven in some spots, but it was easy enough to file down when I got home. I've continued to come to V Nails for pedicures even after I moved away from the area. Their service and the place itself has gone downhill over the years. The massage chairs and basins are worn and gross. Today, a screw from the chair I was sitting in came loose and fell into the basin. After the salt scrub, as the nail tech was rinsing my feet, the water turned from burning hot without a warning. My heel is still stinging from it. The nail tech was unable to explain what happened because he had no idea why. The nail tech rushed through my pedicure even though the place was half empty and there was no one waiting. He skipped the lotion and massage part of the pedicure process altogether. The floor is wet in some spots and there are towels and trash littered and strewn about. I'm normally cavalier about putting my purse and bags on the floor, but this time I absolutely refused to. I'm not going to go out of my way to return again. read more

I can see that a fellow Yelper gave a not so glowing review on the same day I checked in here but I have to say, my experience was pretty darn good. Its a small shop and I cannot imagine how many times I have strolled right by thinking it was a carry-out or a dump but I am glad I took a chance. I was helped right away and the lady that did my mani/pedi was quite thorough and pleasant though she was 8 1/2 months pregnant. Not bad, not bad at all. You don't get the warmest welcome from the older gentleman at the front desk but he's actually very sweet as are all the nail techs I've had. The prices are reasonable and I like that they "guarantee" the gel manicures by offering a free repair if it chips within two weeks. The downside is that I almost always need to go back for a repair within a week or so and who has time for that? Then another nail chips again, so do you go back? It can be a whole thing. But overall it's a solid experience and not too hectic and I like that they offer the free paraffin wax dip with pedicures even though I don't do it. It can get pretty busy on the weekends so you will want to call ahead or get there early. read more

I normally go to Tracey who is great! But the other nail techs, especially the guy is terrible. All of my nails were breaking after a week and a half and I'm not very rough. The same thing happened to my friend. I made an appointment with Tracey that I missed due to leaving work late. She was busy when I arrived so I tried making an appointment for the following day as she suggested. Instead of looking at her schedule she told me to call the next morning to make the new appointment. I did that. I called earlier than what she told me only to be given the run around and then told that she was booked all day! I could have gone somewhere else from the very beginning! But I want to be consistent with this place because I like Tracey's work. A consistent customer in a pandemic is a blessing that is taken for granted here. I won't be returning. read more

I hate calling this place - the guy that works/manages the store doesn't speak english well. So it's hard to understand him - I would appreciate it if he would speak slower and also took the time to listen. He usually just interrupts me on the phone. This the worst nail salon I ever been to in my life. I decided to come here I was very skeptical but after asking questions the nail Tech convince me she knew what she was doing. My pedicure took what felt like 10 maybe 15 minutes to do. My end results were terrible. I spoke with her after the my polish on my toes dried I told her she did not do good job on the heel of my feet. She proceeded to put oil on it like it was going to solve the problem. I walked by this place on my way to work and decided to give it a try. I was greeted by a really friendly man who gave me prices without hesitation. (There isn't a board with prices anywhere in the salon.) $40 for both mani and pedi as well as $8 for eyebrow waxing. That was probably the best price I've seen. Tip is cash only so make sure you have cash. They have the typical massage chair which was awesome. For me, this place had an extra kick to it. Before your nails are polished, they dip your hands and feet in hot wax. It's a cool concept and I fell in love with it (even though I was adamant at first). I was super impressed with the woman who was doing my nails and she wasn't talkative which was perfect since I was reading/listening to podcasts during the time I was here. The reviewer who said this salon is so horrible that it will make you forget your degrees is right! It's a basic factory style shop where you can get a decent mani/pedi on the cheap. As a graduate (art) student I found their work satisfactory for a few years... until I had a problem. I chose the gel nails because I just removed my claw acrylic nails. Instead of soaking the acrylic off, they charged me to essentially rip the nail off using a cuticle tool. I was laid back about the whole thing because I'd never really had a problem at the salon before so although I was horrified, it didn't hurt so I let it happen against my better judgement. I got the gel nails to protect my nail bed from being banged up in clay class (hand-building) by the end of the class my nails were almost completely bare. I asked my friend who is an Aveda esthetician if the clay reacted with the gel to make it come off (in other words, if it was my fault.) She told me to march back and ask for a refund because the only thing that could cause that was old or watered down gel formulas. As a customer who attended their grand opening, I did not want to cause trouble so I politely went in the same day and showed my nails to the owner/manager. He told me they could only repaint my nails and would not give me a refund. I asked where this policy was posted and the tech that did my nails told me that it "doesn't say anywhere we'll give you a refund either". How I phrased the problem was "the nail tech was very nice, but I think the polishes are old. I've been coming here for years but today I'd like a refund." I wasn't rude or loud and didn't want to put-off customers enjoying their spa time but boy did they make it hard to stay calm. I was taken outside and they said they could tell by my ashy hands that I'd put them into chemicals. I protested that I had put them in clay and water and they told me straight up that they "didn't believe me". By now I am LIVID and enraged. I paid for a gel mani because of my lifestyle, not because of the look of it. Every girl in my class had a gel manicure and their hands looked the same as when they came in the class. I acquiesced to their offer to redo them for free since they wouldn't refund my money and I honestly couldn't afford to pay another salon to do my nails over. The most degrading part of the entire exchange was before we went inside, the technician and the owner said (and I had not raised my voice yet, but I am a woman of color) "If you cause a scene and raise your voice in here we're going to call the police" I. was. LIVID!!! Then I lost my temper. Getting my nails done was my little treat among writing a master's thesis on education, doing student teaching, grave hour shifts in a grimey art studio and trying to earn a living. I actually told them this and they said that maybe for my poverty level a basic manicure is better. I was freaking livid. How dare they publically ridicule me for not having more money to throw away on crappy manicures?! This is how they treated a customer that patronized their business for years. The cherry on top of my sundae was after the tech gave me a manicure more suited to my tax bracket, she brought out a pen and paper and asked me to spell "clay" so she could look it up and prove next time I saw her that it was full of chemicals. She didn't even know what clay was and STILL treated me like I was dipping my hands in turpentine. How incredibly rude. LIVID!! This nail salon is fine until it's not. This review is my experience with the waxing... My eyebrows are a beast. Thick. Curly. Wild. Before coming to V Nails I would go to Nail Trix because 1) they are cheap and 2) its the closest place I can go to from my home. However, within the past year, I've been spending a lot of time in DC due to work...particularly in Columbia Heights. I read the reviews for this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Boy am I so glad I did because this is the best my brows have looked in...well....forever!!! They are so groomed and frame my face very well! The best part is its the same price I've paid at Nail Trix ($8 not including tip). The eyebrow lady takes her time with taming my brows unlike at Nail Trix when I would be rushed out! A few things that I've learned along the way.... 1) Bring cash! Good thing Columbia Heights has plenty of banks in the area. 2) Go during the week AND if you can, do it before the evening. I've only gotten my eyebrows done by one lady to which I believe she is the only one who does it. There have been a couple times I have come here past 3pm and she wasn't there. I asked her whats her schedule and she said everyday! She said they pull her aside when it gets busy. Plus, there's usually no wait. 3) Tip the eyebrow lady after you get them waxed. When I first started going, I left my tip at the register when I paid for my brows. Now after reading a review saying that the eyebrow lady is like a cash register (i.e. she carries a lot of money on her in case you need change). Basically, I have no idea if the tip money I was leaving behind at the register was going to her directly and if I have a twenty on me, she can give me the change for it to tip her. 4) The owner comes across rude. I'm used to it now that it doesn't bother me. 5) Street parking in front of the salon on Park Rd is free for an hour! Yasss! read more

I go here twice a month at least. I adore this place - it is just a jump from my apartment building and very convenient. They already know me by name. I've taken several friends with me and they always leave raving. I've never had such great pedicures at such a low price. Imagine it: massage chairs, salt rubs, lotion, massage, paraffin wax, cut, buffing, sanding, and polish. The whole nine yards and for a measly 25 dollars! It is unreal to have such a nice spa pedicure for a low price. The manicures have all the bells and whistles too - only 15 dollars. I've also had my share of different wax procedures done. I've been to this salon twice to get gel nails from Tracy. It definitely is a no frills kind of establishment, but I have found that Tracy takes her time and always tries to deliver what I want! I enjoy chatting with her when I go in. My nails have come out beautifully each time and she even gives you a short hand massage at the end of your mani. They play a lot of music from the 2000's and it makes me feel like I've slipped into a little cozy time machine to get my nails done. Super glad to have given this salon a chance, and not sure why this has such a bad rep on yelp. I had to wait a little bit the first time but walked in to a slow afternoon the second time. They also have a 10-day window fix for chipped gel nails that I did end up taking advantage of the first time (I chipped my nails trying to open a container) but my nails stayed on hassle free for a solid 4 weeks+ afterwards.
