This is my most trusted and highly recommended salon for anyone in DC (or beyond). I've been coming here since it opened and it has always delivered every time! This was my first time with the highly acclaimed Kim (nails) and Sean (pedi) and both were AMAZING!! I am so happy with the results and attention to detail. Even if you are not 100% happy with your nails the staff is so nice and understanding and will fix anything before you walk out because they truly want you to be satisfied with your experience. I started going to a spot recommended by a friend and while they do a good job it's not super convenient nor does the aesthetic match what I'm used to. Anywho, while leaving the bar one night, I came across Aloha and made a note to check them out the next day when they opened. I'm so happy I did because the salon is walking distance from my house, it's spacious and aesthetically pleasing. On top of the atmosphere the nail techs who did my nails and pedicure did an amazing job! They used really good products and the prices are great. I liked the aesthetic of the salon and the technician and everyone was very nice. I got a dip manicure and was happy when I left. However immediately one nail chipped, called next day and said to come back. Went back a few days later and by then several more were chipped. I raised likely needing a new set but instead they only fixed the broken nails. Immediately after leaving another nail chipped and now all are chipped or completely pealed off. I went in to get a dip powder manicure on my nails and was assisted by Mary. It was not a good experience. My hands were never put in water, she also did not remove any of the excess skin from my nails, which is one of the key parts of a manicure. When she told me we were finished I asked her if she was going to clean up the skin around my nails and she said that is an an extra $10 charge but that she would do it for free (I did not believe that at all, I think she just intentionally skipped key parts of the manicure). Not only did she reluctantly do this but I left with a hangnail that's been burning for hours. Additionally the dip power came out super thick. Terrible experience. read more

Second trip to DC but first to Aloha Nail. I received a half-leg wax, mani, and pedi and ALL were top notch! I was seated in less then 5 minutes which I would think is average on a Thursday before noon. Nonetheless, I was happy with it. The wax tech, Ximana (Hēmana) was very good and efficient. She also did my mani/pedi which was wonderful! I think that I fell a sleep for a bit. All the prices were better than fair for the services. I will definitely be returning on my next trip! read more

Went a few weeks ago and plan on continuing to go. Just moved to this general area and didn't want to have to go back to old one to get nails done (though I loved my old salon, just not convenient!) Great service, kind, walked me through everything, flagged anything that was a cost increase, and suggested what *not* to do in my first session to avoid higher cost. She suggested doing something in my next apt instead of the existing one (to not add cost). I really appreciated that! I know businesses need to make money but I really really really appreciate when businesses not only inform on cost increase but also make suggestions to alleviated costs because, I'm on a budget and it's really helpful to me. I ended up just doing the pricier thing same session, which probably was largely because she was nice and informed me of my options, and she did such a great job. Looking forward to next time I go in, and glad I found my new spot. Cat photo is when they were freshly done, "hand near fan" is my nails 3 weeks later - still PERFECT. And this is after 1) doing a bunch of travel 2) falling down stairs (no breakage lol) 3) going to gym and lifting 4) doing chores etc When a nail salon has nail artists that give me nails that stay beautiful AND stay on while I live my life normally (and still look good with no chips) - it's going to stay my spot for a while (These are dip, for those curious) --------- EDIT: switching from 5 to 4 due to #1 and #2 below. The above, and #3 and #4 is why I think still worth 4 stars and why I'll keep going . After the above reviews, the two following nail appointments resulted in: 1. a nail set that wasn't filed down well, not shaped well, and had a lot of bubbles that looked worse over time, and then the top coat started peeling weird. Luckily, that set clearly was not shaped well when I left the salon. I just didn't have time after having it take *two hours* (I was supposed to get a pedicure too, but because the hands took so long, I ran out of time). They DID give me a 10% off discount for my next set, so KUDOS to the management for trying to make it right. 2. Then the third time I went in, the nails looked fine when I left - was for Xmas time, so intentionally did a little Xmas themed color and sparkle. The 10% off worked. The shape wasn't quite what I wanted, but it was good enough. Then, the top coat quickly peeled off within a few days. I'm not sure why that happened, but this it occurred to most of the nails so it was disappointing. I think this may have been due to the brand of the top coat or perhaps the age? I don't think it was the nail salon's fault since the first set I did was so good... and, a tip broke off one nail (my natural nails, so not salon's fault), and they fixed that nail for free so that was GOOD - been to salons that do charge for fixing. I appreciated that. 3. I wasn't sure if I wanted to go again but the first set I got done was great SO, last time I went back, it went back to being perfect and great again (see green nails). I figured out the name of the person who did my nails originally and got all set. So my advice - perhaps like any salon haha - is find an artist that works well with you and stick with them! :) 4. As I said before, management is great here and they are thoughtful and kind, check in a lot, immediately try to resolve issues when you have them (see #1 and #2 in their supportiveness and help for the issues I was able to bring). Given their support I honestly think that they probably would have helped to fix the peeling issue as well, I just was traveling for the holidays so of course couldn't come to the salon. EDIT #2 I didn't know Yelp did a complete update on how edits show up on the app. I was just trying to give a more holistic review with my first edit (since my first review only was one experience). The app notifies people apparently - which is good technically. I went in for nails per usual and the management noticed me (from the review) and came to chat with me. It was surprising (haven't had anyone pay attention before). While my update went down 1 due to the bad nails I got (months ago, not recently), my update did make sure to note how great my current nail artist is and also that management is fantastic in their response This is a bit of a delayed 2nd edit (lol) because I am not always in Yelp. But bumping back up to 5 stars just because it was really nice that management cared enough to come chat with me. They really emphasized how much they care about resolving issues (which I did know and noted in the last edit!). But even this follow up flagged the depth that they care, so with that clearly in mind - making this final edit. Also, big plus on amazing design work as well (see new photos) read more

I only come here for Jonathan, who is a very talented nail tech that I've worked with for 2 years thanks to a friend's referral. I've historically gotten acrylic manis but recently switched to gel X. Structurally his nails are very sound, and he does beautiful designs, from classic and ombre to chrome and sculptural 3D art. I generally come every 3-4 weeks and do a gel pedi every other time. I frequent union market a lot and decided to cheat on my nail salon since the place is new and my car was already parked. You know D.C. and the parking struggles LOL. I called to ask if they have availability and they said yes. So I walked over and honestly I couldn't hear if the lady said $55 or $65 for the gel pedicure. Hoping she said $55 I still went in and asked again. They showed me a menu and LEGIT nothing was included in the pedicure. Your feet are sitting in water, no bubbles, no color, no scrub. NOTHING. Was the staff nice? Yes. Was the establishment nice? Yes. Was the service good? It was ok but for almost $70 and nothing included but a whack paint job and mediocre shaping and trimming. I'm not coming back. I learned my lesson and will not cheat on my nail salon ever again!!! I get you all are brand new but you won't be open long with those prices and terrible services. Today, I visited Aloha Nail Lounge and it was a wonderful experience. The place had great light, welcoming environment, with cleanliness as a top priority. Went in with a friend. My friend got a pedicure and a manicure. I got the spa and let me just say it was divine. My lovely nail tech Ximena, was friendly and did any amazing job. I work as an ASL interpreter so my hands work really hard. The scrub and her attention to where the tension is while massaging my hands and forearms was next level. My hands are still in the happiest state. I have very short natural nails and she was the first person to be able to still give me a stunning French tip. Prices were very reasonable too! They offer drinks during appointment which is always nice. I got dip nails for ~60$ and I couldn't decide between two colors so my nail tech tested each color on acrylic so I could see them better. Super Disappointed. Paid $60 for a very sloppy gel manicure and a cut on my toe, plus an extra $10 to get my heels taken care of. The manicure was very sloppy and I felt it when she cut my toe. The gel doesn't reach my cuticles so it doesn't even look like I got a fresh manicure at all. I wanted fresh toes for a girls trip but now I either need to get it done somewhere else or just hope no one looks too closely at my toes, which is super frustrating when you paid $70 to get your toes done. I also had trouble booking online and eventually gave up and just called. I don't mind calling but if an online reservation system is available, I expect it work. Staff was nice and it was easy to make an appointment by phone. The place also looked nice and clean and had tvs with beautiful scenes of beautiful places that I enjoyed watching. I may go back but just ask for a different nail artist. It's close enough that I may give it a second try, maybe do a regular no-gel pedicure next time so I don't risk spending so much on a bad pedicure. I'll update this review if I go back. read more

This was the worst nail experience of my life. First, there was no nail or cuticle care before they start on gel x. I was caught off guard and didn't notice until the first one was one. Then they had to restart my gel x because they were pointed to high heaven with how much gel the woman used, and there was no way they were cured. she brought in someone else who proceeded to hack at the half glued ones with a file. Got cut twice (why didn't I leave you ask? I had half of them glued on and a wedding to get to, but I still regret it). I wanted a basic modern French and they refused to use the base color I wanted and I ended up with weird grey pink nails where the tips didn't even go all the way to the sides. Nails started lifting after a week and the rings of fire are going to take me months to grow out. Stay away unless you have a trusted tech. read more

I scheduled a first time appointment for a pedicure and a gel manicure with a fill at Aloha. While the pedicure was fine, I had the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered at a nail salon with the nail artist Emon/Imon. From the moment I sat down, she gave negative commentary and pushback on everything I said and every request I made. Everything from the nail colors I chose, the base I requested, my polite ask to sharpen the shape, or my final request to deepen the French tip. A deep French tip is a simple stylistic choice. When I asked for a certain base shade, she repeatedly questioned me if I was sure. Even after I confirmed twice, she insisted that a warmer color would look better on my "darker" tone, which I found completely unnecessary and out of line. At this point I knew I wouldn't be returning but wanted to obviously finish the service. Once I asked if she could make the French tip deeper, she stopped and asked if I wanted to do my nails myself, essentially said I was speaking too much, and asked why I didn't tell her in the beginning. When I explained that she had not shown me the shape before completing three fingers one after the other, and could still adjust the French, she became defensive, stood up, and repeatedly declared that she was "the best nail tech in the salon." I'm not sure what she wanted me to do with that information or if she was only used to customers who sit there silently, but I was shocked given the fact that I was polite, respectful, and the shape and French tip style I walked in with was exactly what I wanted and what I always request. When I asked to speak with the manager, he seemed avoided us completely, clearly not wanting to engage. She insisted no one else in the shop did design, and I calmly said that was fine and asked to continue with my pedicure which was happening at the same time. I left with only a base coat and no top coat, and no design at all. I did not receive an apology. Even as I finished my pedicure, she continued to stalk around the salon speaking to everyone she could while laughing and loudly repeating how she was the best, I clearly knew nothing, and the French design I came in with was "horrible" and "crooked" which just objectively was not true. I truly am not sure of what I did to escalate the situation or deserve such hostility and disrespect. Overall, this was an extremely unprofessional and strange experience. There are many other places to get your nails done, and I cannot recommend Aloha Nails. read more

Although this place isn't for me it might be for someone else.... I asked for a gel pedicure and it took the nail tech forever to do the service, I believe she was a new nail tech. She filed my toenails down so badly, I had to get acrylic on both big toes just to match. Not only was the shape way off, I had to leave and come back because I asked before starting the service could they get me in and out in an hour and was told yes. What really upset me was that when I left the first time my big toes were not finished and the shape was slanted. Then the nail tech who worked on me along with the man at the front desk had the audacity to ask me if I had Venmo for a tip. Thats unacceptable especially if you didn't complete the service. I came back and had someone else finish my service, but he rushed through it and by then I was over it. I will say the place is clean and they offer you soda or water which is nice but if they want to remain in that area and get better reviews they should consider trainings for the new nail techs. read more

Aloha nail lounge is great for pedicure and maybe a basic gel manicure. However their nail extensions leave MUCH to be desired. I have tried gel-x, gel nails and acrylic here. For whatever reason my nails never last more than two weeks. Sometimes less than that. I am a nail girly through and through and keep giving this place a chance because of the convenient location in my neighborhood but the application of the acrylic nails just isn't up to snuff. My last FULL SET of acrylic nails started lifting after just 8 days.... And I take all the precautions. I even use rubber gloves to wash my dishes. They aren't the most expensive salon but for $80 I need a bit more longevity. The staff here is great and the salon itself is very clean. read more
