I cannot say enough about how great everyone is and how above and beyond they go for all of their customers. I have a standing appointment every other Saturday for manicure pedicure and wax and observe all of the customer interactions and have become acquaintances with the other regulars. Okay so I never write reviews and I feel terrible bc my manicurist was so kind, however I do feel like what I read on here from previous reviews was misleading. Pros, this is the cheapest full set I've gotten in the city ever. I didn't know the cost till the end bc they don't have a website/no prices or menu listed anywhere so that wasn't my primary reason for going however it was a nice surprise. I paid $60 for a full set with gel. Cons, This is also one of the worst manicures I've ever gotten. I feel terrible saying that but it is what it is. I've attached a photo for reference. She did cut my cuticle too close which she apologized for and cleaned it with antiseptic however after leaving and under the sun I noticed several more places that are like 1% away from bleeding as well, so that's disappointing. My biggest gripe is the finish. Bumpy and streaky in several places which is a little hard to see in the photo. Over all the polish application is not what I expect from a professional nail salon. I saw no signs of the equipment being sterilized or used once. Over all if you're worried about infections of cleanliness at salons this is not the place for you. My last gripe which is really my fault is that because they don't have a website or any type of menu, I had to call to place an appointment with no reference, so when I asked for Gel Extensions I assumed it was builder gel, not acrylic with gel polish. I realized the situation when I arrived and chose to still give the place a go so that's not on them but something to be aware of. read more

There are many other nail salons all over that list and offer individual services such a cuticles or cut and shape when you don't want/need a full manicure (see photo). If this salon doesn't want to offer these individual services that's fine, however my issue was they agreed over the phone to offer such service and quoted the $10 price but then changed their mind once I arrived. I had a gel French manicure and pedicure here. In less than a week, my nails had chipped. When I called the shop, they told me to come in on Sunday when the person who did my nails, John was there. I arrived on Sunday at 4:30 PM according to the sign on the door they close at 5 PM. Upon arrival they told me I needed to come back on Monday. I returned on Monday and they then told me that John wasn't there and I needed to come back on a different day. At this point, I requested a partial refund which they refused. My experiences have been hit or miss. Even with an appointment I have often waited over 20 mins. to begin service. I watch the 'familiars' come in, ask about a service and sit down in the chair of their preferred tech, who is sometimes my tech!. My last service turned into a lot more and...just as others have stated, it was poor quality servicing. Not only did I look as though I needed a fill-in after 2 days, the nails are thin and semi thick...I requested...thin. After going through the process, I don't have the fight in me to "do battle" for a refund or re-do. Principle matters to me...not to them because the clients keep rolling in, filling the space because of convenience. I'm not wasting another cent w'out venturing out of my comfort zone to seek better for my cents sense...lol. read more

I love this salon. They accept walk-ins, but it's much better if you make an appointment. They are clean and very friendly. It's also next to Mt Vernon Sq Metro Station, which is very convenient. All the technicians are good, but Thu is my favorite. I absolutely love her work! read more

Please go to another location if you are a Black woman. I mad an appointment and showed up 15 minutes early. They made me wait 45 minutes after my appointment time and served two other clients that did not look like me. On top of that, my servicer did a terrible job on my hands and feet. I came in to get a nail replaced. ONE NAIL. They were extremely SLOW with their service. I waited over an hour for them to attend to me. Instead they attended to other clients who came in AFTER ME. I asked the gentleman working there why other people who came in after me were getting service. He didn't give me a clear answer but instead stated it would be a few more moments and they wouldn't charge me for the nail repair. 15 minutes later when the lady started finally working on my nails I reminded her that her employee had just stated to me that I would not be charged for the nail repair. She then said no that's not true and I would be charged eight dollars (FOR ONE NAIL). I called over the gentleman to repeat to her what he told me but instead he accused me of being a liar and stayed he didn't remember saying that. (Apparently, suddenly he has amnesia.) This is the WORST service ever and I would never recommend to anyone ever to go there to get your nails done. These people are extremely rude, condescending, and ignorant. In addition to this while I was waiting another young lady who was there getting her nails done ended up leaving her appointment early because that same nail tech stopped working on her nails to service another clients eyebrows without telling her for 30 minutes. All while she still needed to finish her nails. AND to add insult to injury they have ROACHES. Absolutely disgusting and they need to be shut down. read more

I've given this place countless chances. I've had dip powder scraped off so hard it left painful red dents in my nail, technicians don't know how to apply dip powder, one ripped off an acrylic nail and broke my nail underneath then told me I had weak nails. Constantly coming out with bumpy and messy nails. Unless you have one consistent person you see here, don't trust them to sit you in the chair of a competent nail tech :( read more

There's a urine bile fest beneath it. The new owners only wants wealthy non-Black & Hispanic patrons. The Tech Kim over books and under performs. She'll rush you through to get to someone else. The environment was warm and friendly. They were very nice and respectful. The lady who did my nails made me feel welcomed and comfortable. I came in for french nails. We did a clear base and i'm not too fond of it but that's my own fault since i did not say otherwise. They're all different sizes, the nails and the french tips and it makes me feel like i have wonky nails on. My friend went here for a manicure and invited me along. I knew I wanted to get my toes done but I wasn't sure about getting a manicure. I wanted to see how I liked my experience first before I made that decision. Thu took great care of me with a gentle pedicure. She was so patient, offered me so many options when it came to polishes and designs, and she understood my requests so well and answered all of my questions. That's when I knew I had made an excellent life choice! I went ahead and got a dip manicure and I loved it as well! I enjoyed my service SO much, as did my friend! And we can't wait to go back! A little pricey but worth it! Very safe. Upon arrival had to wear mask, sign a covid waiver, sanitize hands, and have temp checked. I have had two manicures here now, one gel and one dip, and both have been PHENOMENAL. Both times, the technicians worked so slowly and thoughtfully. My nails were shaped beautifully, and especially for the dip manicure I was impressed by how thin the dip was when all was complete. I also got two regular pedicures, and both times they were amazing. The technicians again were so slow, taking their time to clean up every single part of my feet. The foot and hand massages I got with both manicures and pedicures were so nice. Both my nail techs, Thu for the gel & Kim for the dip, were beyond kind and thoughtful. They took wonderful care of me. This will be my new spot, and I'm so glad I loved two technicians so much - it will make scheduling with them a breeze! The pink photo is my dip, and the red is gel. My total for a dip manicure with tips and a pedicure was $85- the best I've found in DC by far. read more

Time for a Red Sun quickie update. After being a regular here this year, I continue to be impressed. My mani + pedi last week was simply to die for - I never thought they were going to stop scrubbing my summer-calloused feet. Ahhh. And my manicure - 7 full days later - still looks amazing. The main reason I need to update is because I have, since my initial review, been a patron of their...waxing....services. I KNOW, I KNOW, its a NAIL SALON, and the voice inside my head says to never do that. But the first time, I was in a real pinch. When I had an appt. at another salon for a pre-Puerto Rico trip, I had to cancel and couldn't get another time before we left. So out of desperation, I tried - the morning of our flight - Red Sun for a quick beach-ready-bikini. And you know what? It was cheap, it was fast, it was good. It has been 5 months and several salons later but the other day I - again, unable to get an appointment at my regular - decided to go back and give Red Sun another run for its money. This time I went alllllll the way. Full shebang at Red Sun is only $35 and it is QUICK and, might I add, meticulous. Whole thing probably took 20 minutes and - unlike high-end places I have gone to - I felt completely fine afterwards. Its bare-bones in a back room that sure doesn't feel spa-like, but that isn't the point. Its quick, cheap, great results, not too painful - so if you can look past the lack-of-glam factor, give it a try. Did I mention I simply walked in both times and never had to wait. Win! read more

I stopped by Red Sun on a work day to get a mani pedi done before my vacay. I saw that they did gel manicures and wanted to try it out since they were supposed to last a long time without chipping. When I got there, I asked about getting a gel pedicure, but they told me it wasn't necessary since pedis tended to stay intact longer. I appreciated that info - and they were right. Way to NOT take me for my money :) The great thing is, the gel mani stayed for a full 2 weeks and could have stayed on longer, but I was tired of the loud ass red polish I chose. That said, I'd definitely go back to them for another gel manicure and a regular pedicure. The lady massaged my feet and legs really well - which is the best part of all this pampering, isn't it? Came here on a whim looking for a nice pedicure at an affordable price. The salon was pretty clean with 2 flat screens, nice selection of Essie's and OPI with a few China Glaze polishes. The prices are fairly reasonable considering the competition. My aesthetic was very thorough but was extremely rough with my feet, especially my big toe! I flenched with every touch she made. The massage was timely and thorough as well. I also got an eyebrow wax. She asked did I want thin or thick eyebrows. I said thick with emphasis and that just wanted the excess removed. -_- needless to say I'm disappointed with how thin they came out. Tips are also on a cash basis. If you have a credit/debit card, you have to tell them in advance to add a tip before they charge you. read more

This is by far the BEST nail salon I've found in DC, especially in terms of cost! I went here for a pedicure and they did an excellent job--they also do the razor (or just a scrub if you don't want it) which is a plus in my book. The pedicure was almost like a "spa pedicure" because the leg massage was soooo relaxing. They were very friendly, had some great color choices, offered us bottled water (cute mini bottles) and you can't beat the location--directly across the street from the Convention Center metro. The other reviewer is right, the outside doesn't look so hot but inside it's incredibly clean--the only thing I would recommend is a little better ventilation. I will be coming here a lot this summer for sure. If you go soon, they are offering 10% off for their grand opening. read more
