I came to this place on my last trip to DC for a gel french mani-pedi. They were very busy when I initially came Friday as a walk-in, so I made an appointment for the next day. I was the only one when I showed up and there was only one lady working. She started with the pedi which was thorough and relaxing. She even silk wrapped by big toe to reinforce a small crack which I'd never had done before. The pedicure was beautiful and is still holding up nicely. She played classical music the entire time and didn't talk which made for a very relaxing experience. For the mani, she seemed a bit more rushed and required a more verbal coaching to address issues that would ordinarily be obvious to a nail artist. She listened to me when I requested edits but still the manicure wasn't properly cured and felt a bit sticky when I left and ended up chipping within a few days. She had the light on a preset that cured only 45 secs and didn't reset without manual reactivation. I had to ultimately have them redone less than a week later. Since I was just visiting, I couldn't return to let her know. Worst of all the services were $150 with tip and it took well over 2 hours to finish. I think this is a solid place for a pedi or one service at a time. But be sure to ask for additional curing time and a day where she may not be the only person working. read more

i never leave a salon without tipping, but there's a first time for everything. i sat there for 2 hours to get charged $85 for a bad set. the pictures speak for themselves. note that 3 nails were missing, so that means the DRAMATICALLY longer nails were the ones that they applied. whoever was learning from this woman doing my nails should run (1 star) update! nami did a lovely job fixing them for free, which i greatly appreciated. they're not perfect, but i don't mind. there are still things that i have issues with but i feel like i can't speak explicitly on the steps of the nail process (products/tools/technique) without having a license in the practice; i'll only speak on the results objectively. thank you guys! Disclaimer: This is my first ever pedicure so I have absolutely nothing to compare it to. After a 36 hour shift, my feet were killing me. I've lived beside Tiptoes for three years and always thought it would be a nice treat to myself after a long shift and today my tired feet led met straight there. Boy am I glad they did! The staff was very kind and welcoming. They talked me through the whole thing, explaining what they were doing and why (I just did not understand those plastic bags of wax at first!). The whole experience was very relaxing and enjoyable; I definitely plan to return. It included a nice leg massage and hot stones as well as a massage chair. The entire experience lasted roughly 35 minutes. Base price is $30. If you have a GW ID, it is down to $28. You cannot add gratuity on your card, so make sure you bring cash to tip for the excellent service. read more

The most horrible experience I have ever had in my life! I have made an appointment two days earlier. Came on time to an empty salon and sat down to get my gel nail polish removed. Suddenly, three other clients came. I was left with the accetone on for an hour before I had enough. And the main lady said "look the nail polish is not even coming off". Are you serious??? As much as I love the convenience of tip toes, their service could use some work. I paid $50 for sns nails (no tips on them) only To have them break one week later. They generally last three weeks. When I called to get them fixed, they wanted to charge me $10 per nail, even though they clearly did a poor job. I won't be going back, and for anyone reading this review, I recommend dc nail spa or persimmons. This is absurd, I have an event tomorrow and this shouldn't have happened. read more

My rating is based on the inconsistency of the staff. The first time I went the nail technician did just an ok job with my pedicure services but was able to walk in with no appointment and no wait. The second time I went my nail technician was great she took her time and didn't rush through my pedicure. Small place. Came in and had no wait which was nice. I came in to get my acrylics removed and replaced with a simple gel manicure. The older technician that started taking off my acrylics scratched me and made my finger bleed but did not apologize or even admit to doing anything. Needless to say it wasn't fun sticking a cut finger into the acetone solution! The other technician that ended up completing the task and doing the gel manicure was more gentle however she did not clean up my nails after the painted them so some of my fingers have nail polish on them when they shouldn't. Not that big of a deal but again I'm paying $40 for your services and end up leaving with a cut and with paint on places other than my nails. It wasn't a terrible experience but I probably won't go there again unless I absolutely have to. read more

Good small spot for a mani/pedi. I was a walk in at 11am and only waited a few minutes to get started. The most basic pedicure still includes hot stone massage and parafin wax for your heels. Students get $5 off services with their university ID so my mani/pedi came out to $40. Only downside is you can only tip with cash. read more

It does get busy during lunch, so be prepared to wait (or make an appointment ahead of time). I've been earlier in the day and it didn't seem as crowded. I've been here a couple times and got acrylics done with plain sns colors and they were great, didnt chip at all, perfect. However I was a little disappointed this time round - I asked for these nails (inspiration photo) and did not really get what I wanted. The polish she used for the nail art was too shimmery and it came out looking really faint and to be honest, not very recognizable. Additionally, while she took her time to properly prep my nails, she did machine-file my cuticles until they bled (3 fingers, you can see one with the dried blood in the photo) what concerned me the most was that after it started bleeding, she dipped the bleeding finger straight into the SNS powder (it was rather obvious and hard to miss). This seems rather unhygienic and unsanitary, i was a little worried about getting it infected. It's been 7 hours since I got my mani and my fingers are still stinging :/ read more

I walked in around 11 for a lunchtime nail fix-up -- no other customers were in the store, nor were the 3 technicians preoccupied with anything but headphones and iphones -- yet they informed me that I have to make an appointment and come back 'after one'. I was very confused since they were not busy at all. The appointments book had no other names on it. I think it's very rude to turn away customers like this. I really want to give a good review because the women work so hard but I just can't. I have gotten two manicures here and the first one was okay (dip) but the second one was maybe the worst I have ever gotten. The main woman was so busy trying to make sure everyone who came in would get served that she completely forgot to put a top coat on my nails and they chipped within an hour of me leaving. I was very excited to come in, I got gel extensions with my sister for thanksgiving and I wanted to do it again for christmas. I specifically asked over the phone if they did gel extensions and they said yes, so I made my appointment. I go in, they replace the one extension that had broken off with an acrylic nail and glues it to my finger as well as the nail. Also, she filed my nails slanted and at slightly different lengths. Originally, I was okay with these little things because the nails looked nice enough and gel polish is supposed to last for a while so I didn't mind the price. Not even 1 day later, my nail started to chip. My appointment was at 2, this picture was taken at 7 and my thumb has already chipped. I know a lot of people are hit or miss about this spot, but I've always had a really great experience here. I'm really particular about my manicures- specifically that I get upset when the nail technician gets polish on my cuticle line (because then it ridges and lifts once the nail grows in). Tiptoes is one of the only places that I've ever been to where the technicians keep the cuticles clean. Often times, they'll even wipe the cuticle to keep it perfect before setting the gel just in case. My only wish is that they'd rely on the nail drill less and do more hand filing, but otherwise they do a great job! read more

She yelled at me when I asked her to re-do a finger on which she did a very poor job! She claimed that she has other clients and no time for me, but the salon had no more clients an hour before closing AND I called for an appointment so make it make sense. Then, she kept sighing and rolling her eyes, giving me lots of attitude. My nails all came out to a different shape/size. Very poorly skilled staff. This nail salon is new and conveniently close to GW. It is very clean and organized and all of the women there were accommodating and sweet. I got a gel manicure and a regular pedicure for $65. After visiting a number of places where my manicure started chipping a few days after getting it done, this was a welcome change. They are quick and do a quality job. Worst nail service I have ever had. They acted like us showing up without calling was the biggest inconvenience, even when we offered to come back at a later time. No thought was given into the process of taking off my gel. They did a rush job that turned out to be two coats of paint and no cuticle care or anything. You could see through the paint to my nail. My nail chipped not even two days later. They also sanded my nail down so thin that it bent at any sort of pressure. They do NOT care about clients and only want your money. read more

They do an excellent job in making sure that they don't get any polish on your cuticles and my manicures last a long time. Prices are average to the slightly lower end for the area. I was given a $5 off promo flyer for Tiptoes, so I went to get my eyebrow and lip waxed. It was a pretty weird experience - and I should have been suspicious that the glowing 5-star reviews on here are written by people whose very FIRST reviews are for this place. The girl who did my wax service: 1) never prepped my skin with baby powder before the waxing began, so the treated areas were extremely red and raw when I left; 2) didn't bother to trim uneven eyebrow hairs and told me she was "just going to leave those"; 3) worked extremely slowly like she had just learned to do this. It's the next day and parts of the skin on my lip are torn and red from poor waxing technique. I'm never going back to this place. read more
