The salon is located upstairs so be mindful. When you get upstairs the salon is absolutely beautiful. The chairs are comfortable. The bowl is different for pedicures and I love it. Genuinely a horrible experience. I arrived at 5pm for my appointment which I made the day before, 3 people arrived very soon after me and all of their services were started first. I sat there for nearly an hour before my service was started and once it did the staff member convinced me to change services because it would be more convinent for them. They were extremely overbooked because of a "glitch in the scheduling system" which they did not tell any of the costumers that came in until I was about to leave. Overall I was there for 2 hours and received no apology or gratitude from the staff, in fact I was practically rushed out of the salon. Do not go here. read more

I thoroughly love this spot. It's old school and works perfect for me. I often stop to get a pedicure when I'm in the neighborhood and am always so happy to sit and read in a comfy massage chair while getting the most fantastic foot massage as a part of the process. The people at the shop were very nice, however, the first thing that I noticed was the ladies working there were wearing stained uniform tops. The second thing were the towels that they used on the customers. They were really stained. The older lady had hair dye or something on her hands that made them look unclean. The dye was in her nails and she had one nail that was very long and curved downward. They did a good mani/pedi job but the things that I mentioned gave a terrible first impression and overall feeling that the shop was not clean. I think they should clean up their overall appearance and consider what a customer sees when they go into a nail salon with expectations that the place is clean. read more

Arrived early and was assisted right away. Another lady helped with soaking my toes to remove my polish while Melissa finished up with her other client. Melissa like always was so gentle and precise. I've never been a fan of my feet but she always makes them look so pretty after completing my pedicure which boosts my confidence. Amazing, cheap, and great mani pedis. I love their selection of colors and designs. I've been here a few times now, including tonight when I waltzed in at 8:15 because the open sign was on, even though the posted hours outside clearly state that they close at 8:00 (don't worry, I asked if they were still open and tipped 100%). I always get great customer service, my nails look awesome, and somehow my heels are that of a baby. It's down what looks like an alley and then up a flight of stairs but worth the minor inconvenience of that, it's phenomenal. I've seen a couple of comments that this is no frills, but like...I get an amazing massage and you can get champagne so I'd categorize it as low frills. Plus it's super cheap and IN DUPONT so this one is a win for me. read more

Pedicure was great. She took her time and my toes came out beautiful. Time for a fill in, and they switched me to another tech. She rushed through and you can tell. Polish is uneven and so is the nail shape. Had to ask her to clean off the excess polish where she did it messy. Also got waxing done by same lady, she rushed through that too. Kept looking out the door and going fast because other ppl were waiting. Ended up having to tweeze a lot when i got home. Besides the pedicure, was not a relaxing experience. Dirty, Dangerous, Disgusting and Disgruntled This best describes this salon and its staff. Even at the low price of $35, this place is not good. The Salon is very dirty, everywhere you look there is hair, dust and filth. The staff is also pretty dingy by their appearances. The young lady I had (glasses and a pink Juicy shirt) had about as much strength in her hands as an arthritic leper. My heals were just as rough after I left as when I can in. I also had a soreness in all my toes and finger tips around the cuticles', a slight infection maybe? Finally I had asked for a shiny buff. Clear nail polish on a man is just tacky. They said "yes, no problem" when I came in and asked if they had an opening and if they could do a buff. However when it came to the buff part, she no longer spoke any English? This salon use to be my go to because of my girl Ruby. O how she would always do my pedicures with such thoroughness and the filing/paint job was always impeccable. She's been doing my toes for over 2 years and to my dismay, tonight I came in for my pedicure and she is no longer there :( Instead of leaving I decided to see someone else and man was that the biggest mistake ever! The pedicure was so sloppy, my toenails were filed crookedly, the scrub on the bottom of my feet was done half hazardly and when I tell the tech to fix it she looks at me with a blank stare. $45 down the drain I'm so annoyed and pissed. Set up pedicure appointments based on this nail salon being close to my daughter's apartment as well as her previously patronizing this business. Color Nails had same day appointments available & I was happy about the easy access however once we got there the owner (or spokesperson for the business) was nickel & diming us for everything beyond their supposed best pedicure... $5 for callus removal, $10 to remove gel nail polish, $15 for an extra foot massage (which probs was the only valid up charge offered)... which made me think they were compensating for an empty salon. I felt like they were talking amongst themselves about us & they were saying that the mom's paying so let's run up the tab. I didn't argue b/c it was a time with my daughters but the establishment ruined their tip potential with the ridiculous up charges... half way thru the pedicures I wanted to say we should've gone to the other nearby nail salon that include those up charges in the different pedicure options. read more

My never ending quest to find a worthy mani/pedi spot in DC continues, and I keep trying. The latest on the list was Color Nails, and it wasn't anything they did that will keep me from going back. Of course the tech tried to cut my cuticles after I asked her to only push them back, or I had to pay 5 more bucks before I left because they forgot to charge me for my French on the pedi. Or for the massage chairs that don't really massage. Or the slight air of crudiness all around. The real reason I won't be back is because of another customer. If I see her again anywhere-nail salon, grocery store, church- I'll be forced to punch her in the face because she was the most annoying person I've encountered in weeks. She was so rude to the staff I can't even imagine them serving her. I wanted to toss her and her crutches down the stairs (who gets their nails done on crutches? Ugh). The lady who did the waxing was awesome! I was apprehensive to find a new person once I moved out to DC since I figured all personal care must be better in Los Angeles (ok I know I sound like a total snob). But not only was it reasonably priced but she was quick and painless. Did a pretty good job on my eyebrows as well. Unfortunately I did not catch her name, but she was professional and friendly. And not overly talkative. As far as the nail salon goes, it was very clean and well decorated. However, the guy who was doing my polish change looked like he didn't have a clue what he was doing, and what would typically take about 5 minutes for someone to do seemed to be quite the ordeal for him. Maybe he was training though? Becuase one of the women hovered over him the entire time, and eventually stepped in for him to finish my polish change. **UPDATE: I went and got a mani/pedi from Ann and she was awesome! Very friendly, not overly talkative, and thorough. She also listened closely to what I asked for. She gave a great massage, a bit on the firm side. Did a great job on the color too. Nice little nail place, perfect for a quick pick-me-up! The place was very clean and the workers are very nice and don't rush you out the door. Make sure to look at their website for coupons, but make sure you print it out. (My friends and I didn't realize we needed to print it out, but the owner was sweet and gave us the discount, but told us to print it out next time). I got a regular pedicure and manicure, and felt like they did a decent job. I would probably do the spa pedicure next time so that I get a longer massage and scrub! You get what you pay for, I guess... My pedicure and eyebrow wax cost $35. The results were presentable but unimpressive. I ended up having to "clean up" my eyebrows at home because they were uneven, and not much time was spent working on my feet which is evident by looking closely at the quality of the pedicure. The service itself is brusque, indifferent, and pretty impersonal. Personally, I'd rather pay a little more and have someone do a more thorough job. Went to the Color Nails on 17th on a whim for a manicure and pedicure. It was time to feel like I was taking care of myself and for some reason going to the nail salon always makes me feel like a real person again. I called around 11:30 a.m. and was taken immediately after. I was going to go for my standard bright pink opi mani and pedi but thought I'd switch it up by getting a gel manicure and pedicure! I thought that I needed to finally get on the bandwagon and you mani apparently lasts for at least two entire weeks. I got Ni and she was wonderful. Super accommodating, fast and good at what she does. The place was relatively empty during a weekday at lunch so that was a perk and my gel mani and pedi cost me about $60 total (not including Tip). Ni was super sweet and told me if I came in for a gel mani and pedi again that Color Nail wouldn't charge me an extra fee to remove it. It costs $5 for them to remove it if you don't want to get a mani pedi. All in all great experience, place was clean and the staff was nice :) I'm going to see Ni again before my Euro Trip at the beginning of August and I will include pics :) *This particular location is walking distance from 16th Street NW but they have a number of other locations throughout the DC metro area. read more

**BE FOREWARNED** I posted the below review several months ago and it has mysteriously disappeared since -- but you should be aware that like Julie B. I got a bacterial infection -- TWICE -- after getting pedicures here. Don't put your health in danger at an unsanitary place, especially since this seems to be a recurring problem!! It's a huge, huge bummer because I loved the windowed, airy atmosphere and had gone here for over a year without a problem...but the last 2 times I went (April/May '08)I developed one of those bacterial infections thatyou hear about on TV news specials (angry red spots all over the lower part of my legs -- the parts submerged in water)! They weren't going away so I went to the dermatologist, who took a culture and prescribed meds (TWO kinds, and a special wash). Luckily it was cleared with antibiotics. He asked if I had been "wading through any pools or hot tubs lately..." Umm, no, but I HAD just had a pedi at Color nails! I stupidly brushed the first incidence off to bad luck, went back there a SECOND TIME, and AGAIN got the same infection...dermatologist was perplexed, and not pleased. I'm really not one to write reviews but I had such a negative experience here. I made an appointment for a dip manicure and pedicure and they quoted me a price on the phone. I waited 20 mins for my pedicure to start, and the pedicure is messy and the polish seemed thinned out. I had to wait another 20 minutes in between my pedicure and my manicure and then the rushed through the manicure. She filed them incredibly short, and left some really thick with messy edges. They charged me $20 more than the quote they gave me over the phone. On top of all of that the salon was so dirty I was appalled. read more

I was surprised this salon was open on Easter Sunday. I had just left the Nat'l Geographic Museum, and my friend & I were in dire need of a mani/pedi. We called and to our surprise they were open. Nice women in there, and I initially questioned why the extra $10 for a massage, but now I see why. They take extra time to massage your feet/leg as well as your hands/arms.
