Honestly, I'm very disappointed and sad to be writing this review. I have been a client at Solar for a few years now and have usually had good experiences getting gel manis, acrylic sets and fill ins, and pedicures. However, I will not be returning after my last appointment. I made an appointment for an acrylic fill in and to fix 2 nails that had broken (not Solar's error--I broke them at work!). When I arrived, I was placed with a technician who I assume is new because I had never seen her working here before. That was not a problem, and she was very nice, but I was very unhappy with how my nails came out. The acrylic was lumpy and uneven, as was the gel polish, and the shape was just okay. Regardless, I still paid and tipped and went on my way. That was just over 2 weeks ago. Over the past 3 days, the acrylic lifted and fell off of 5(!) nails (including one that had been freshly applied to repair a break). I decided to soak off the rest of my nails as best as I could, and that's when I noticed a dark green spot on my left ring fingernail?! After a quick google search I learned this is a form of fungus that can grow when moisture gets trapped underneath acrylic or after poor acrylic application/poor salon hygiene. I'm honestly grossed out and extremely disappointed and will not return to Solar after this experience. read more

I frequent Solar Nails & Waxing probably monthly. I usually come in for SNS with natural nails or a pedi. Apparently they have a reward program where you punch in a card to eventually get a free service. Despite having been here at least 5 times, this has NEVER been offered to me. Anyways... I've been serviced by Lee, some man who works there (2x), and 2 other people whose names I can't remember. Whenever I get my natural nails done, I have had a wonderful experience. I usually come on my lunch break and there is usually no wait. I love that they have so many staff available. I recently got a full set with SNS. This was my first time having fake nails. Unfortunately I will not return here if I have fake nails. I will give Tenley Nails a try instead. For the full set, it seemed like I got stuck with someone who has never done a full set with SNS. Multiple workers kept coming over here and hovering over her. Some Latina technician had told her which sns nail polish to use in what order. She also did not even use the sns top coat and I told her that. I asked her to not use the gel top coat and instead use the top coat that came with the sns. She asked a coworker and continued to use the gel top coat. My top coat began peeling 4 days later. My middle nail cracked in the middle horizontally on day 5. Talk about disappointing. And she also was rough in filing my nails. She filed some of my skin which causes 2 papercut like cuts. Another nail broke after a week and a 2rd broke after 2 weeks of having these nails. So yeah. I don't recommend them if you're getting fake nails but I'd recommend for natural nails. read more

Gel mani, regular pedicure and eyebrows were $77 total and well worth it. Quiet and pleasant environment. This has been my regular salon for about a year now and I have never been disappointed! I usually get a dip manicure and they always have a variety of colors to choose from. With their dip manicure, my nails last weeks with perfect shine, no chipping, and they grow without breaking (major bonus!!!). For pedicures, I usually do regular polish and again, I am never disappointed. They also have a reward program where after a certain amount of visits you get a discount as well as specials during certain days of the week! Not only do they provide an excellent service, but the staff is super friendly and welcoming. They do waxing, massages and nails. I would say that it definitely needs an update on equipment, A/C and the amount of nail colors, I found a color I wanted easily. However, I didn't know they did dip nails since it wasn't advertised, will go back. They're dog friendly is a awesome Edit: came back to get a dip manicure and it was awful quality. Previously I had gotten dip manicures they have had to be taken off because they lasted so long. I don't think the tech used the proper equipment and just was trying to cut corners on product. It chipped after a week and my nails we bumpy and uneven right after drying. Will only go there for pedicures for now on. read more

I was very disappointed at my experience here. I got the gel manicure and a pedicure. By the time we were finished the manicure was still very messy, with paint all over the skin around my nail. I had to ask multiple times for it to be cleaned up, and was told in response that I had to wash it off. The person who had worked with me promptly moved on to the next person without checking if it had come off. It would not wash off so I we asked them to apply polish remover to clean it. Instead she just picked the skin off. And it still wasn't completely cleaned up. I had the same issue with the polish on a few of my toes but didn't bother to bring it up. The point of paying to get my nails done is so that I don't have to fix it back at home. This is the second bad experience I've had here and I will not be returning. Even when my nails were being done the nail would actually come off when they were being filed, and more glue would be added (but clearly only enough to make them stay on until I paid and left). Cut 3 different fingers no matter how many times I asked her to slow down. The nails are done so poorly you can see my actual nail and the fake one. I also have sanitation concerns with this place. I've been here once before and I was satisfied with my nails. This most recent time, though I left very dissatisfied with the service. I showed a picture and received the complete opposite and I even wanted a design but decided against it when I saw the nail tech was not capable. When she was doing my nails, she was very rough with them. Usually when the tech sees there's a cut on your nails, they avoid alcohol on the area and are careful around them. I was very disappointed but because I was in a rush and don't like to be rude I didn't say anything and even tipped. Needless to say, I really regret not saying anything. I don't think I'll be returning to Solar. I suggest not going with the "whoever available" option and sticking to one person who you know will do a good job. One of the worst nail salons I have ever been to. The minute you walk in they are just rushing you to pick your color and give you no time to think. They did not take their time at all with the process but rushed it all. Then at the end they tell you to dry your nails so close to the fan that it creates waves and bubbles in the polish. The day of getting my nails done the polish was so messed up by how they dried it I had to get it redone at a different salon and then after only 1.5 days with my acrylic nails on one had already broke and I had to get it redone again. I have not had these on for even two weeks but many have broken off already. Would never recommend going here. read more

Waxing was the most painful and incompetent I've ever experienced. This is not the Red Room of Pain. All I know about BDSM is what I learned in 50 Shades, where, apparently shouting NO and STOP means you really want more. I didn't. I went for a Brazilian, which is painful even when done well, which means each area is treated once. And takes five minutes Tina did not do it well and she kept going for 20 minutes until I got off the table. She waxed each section no fewer than three times, and a couple of areas as many as six. Six hot wax applications and six ripping them off in the tender vaginal area. That was Wednesday. Today is Friday and wearing even silk underwear is still painful. The area is red and tender, even after multiple daily applications of prescription dermatological ointment. Moreover, Tina got wax on my outer thigh and on my dress and other places that shouldn't have been waxed during a Brazilian. I liked that dress. Words didn't work. She knew I was in pain. I asked for powder. No powder. No matter how many times or how much pain she knew I was in, nothing subtle like a wince, but out and out OUCH and THAT REALLY HURTS and PLEASE STOP. I'M DONE. Tina kept going. After I told her please just remove the wax that she had applied. She left applying more. My skin at that point was so fried that I couldn't feel that wax as being applied, I thought she was actually just removing the existing wax; from my position I couldn't see what she was doing. Silly me. I thought she was listening and that she had ceased to apply new wax and was concentrating on removing the wax she hadn't removed the first three or four or five or six times. But when I looked, Tina was dipping the waxing stick to apply more wax. That was when I got off the table and applied powder myself. That was the only way to stop her. I understand that English may not be her first language, and I respect that, but shouting STOP and NO MORE in addition to obviously being in pain is pretty basic. She kept apologizing, but she never stopped. Perhaps others can do the job. But I'm not risking it. I'll leave a separate favorable review for the mani pedi. read more

I'm so disappointed. I've been coming to this place for 10 years now and most of the time the service is reasonable for what you'd except for a $40 mani/pedi. Yesterday was terrible though, and I won't be returning. My mother and I went for mani/pedis. First, the pedicure chairs are at a point where they need to be replaced - they no longer work and the controls for the chairs are cracked and broken. Second, it was really warm in the salon. Typically this isn't an issue, but it was yesterday bc the warm air and lack of air circulation slowed the polish trying time for our nails (we use regular polish). Third, when Lee finished my mother's nails, she sent her to the drying table at the back of the salon. Not a big deal, except that the table doesn't work - neither fan not the UV light turned on. So an hour later when we were ready to leave, my mother's nails were still wet! I ended up having to redo her nails when we returned home. Lastly, the fellow who did my pedi was great. After he started my mani, he said another customer came in and needed a pedi so another nail polisher would paint my nails and he would go work with the new client. Fine by me, except that my new polisher was so old and slow. I mean, 20 minutes after starting to paint my nails she still wasn't done. And she took so long painting each nail that the pain started to collect at the end of each nail. I became impatient at how long it was taking her and how bad my nails looked and asked her to forget it. Just take the polish off and refund me half of what I had paid (I of course already paid for the services and tipped 20%). Lee overheard me say this, and she said just to refund me $8, which is the cost of a polish. This is what pissed me off - I'm a long-time client, I always tip well, and I come with frequency. I had just paid $100 for two mani pedis -- my moms nails werent dry, we had been at the salon for 1 hr 45 minutes and my nails weren't even painted. And Lee had the gall to nickle and dime me. I wish I had asked for $2 top returned to me as well, but I didn't. Anyway, no loyalty to customers. I'm done with this place. Further, the constant chatting in Vietnamese is annoying. read more
