I went in & was desperately hoping I cud get my one nail fixed after it chipped & split. When I went inside there was one woman working giving another customer a pedicure & manicure (which I wasn't told she would get a mani). I told the woman I had time to wait 10 min & she said come back in 5. I did she wasn't done. I told her it was only one nail & I was in a bit of a rush (graduation weekend). I went back & forth checking & waiting at least 4 to 5 times. Finally when she was ready I went it & settled in. She looked at my nail & said we don't have your color - I don't have tips, just a gel coat for my real nails. She did nit try to fix it, instead she was going to paint over it w a similar color. I told her what's the point, the color wasn't that unusual but she was adamant there was no color close to mine that she had. But I found more than one color to match & she said no, that's color for tips. I was shocked she couldn't fix it! No even a drop of glue, the polish was barely chipped & I would have put on an almost the same color but not if she could t fix the nail. It wasn't a hard fix! Then I realized she wanted to close the shop. It all sand in, she was in a rush to leave. I had totally wasted an HOUR for nothing. There was also an annoying language barrier. It was pretty bad. The salon was dated, only 2 nail desks & 4 to 5 pedi chair/tubs. I wasn't impressed by the decor. And to enter, you not only walked down 4/5 steps- but then dip & step up again to get buzzed in. With one person who's giving the mani/pedi, you're going to wait. She had to put down what she was doin to buzz me in. It was a disappointing situation. Def def would not go back. And my nails still broken! Quality of salon, poor. Entrance not easily accessible- cleanliness- subpar, friendliness- nahhh, price? She gave no service even tho I said I'd pay extra- I was goin to a graduation party. Turn around, keep walking g. There are other salons (so I'm told) on the same avenue - but I think I'll wait till I get back home- not worth the aggravation. read more

Absolutely disgusting, repulsive, unprofessional, painful, and low quality. I should've looked this up on yelp because I would've seen more of the negative reviews here, but on Google they had plenty of positive reviews amongst the recent ones, so I decided to try it. Without question, go somewhere else!!! I'm currently dictating this review through Siri because the girl who gave me my acrylic nails shave them down so much and so often that my fingers are literally swollen and in too much pain to type. It's 4:30 AM and I am awake because they're throbbing and I need to ice them. Not only that, but I would've been better off going with some stick on nails from a pharmacy than the job that she did. The reason I came for acrylics was to lengthen my nails and make them look more natural but there's actually more white now than the pink of my nail bed because she doesn't know how to do French nails with acrylic powder and instead considers gluing on a plastic white tip to the end of your pink nail A sufficient French acrylic manicure. She was also having trouble communicating with me which is normally totally fine, but this person kept getting frustrated that she wasn't understanding my requests and started taking it out on my nails by over filing and sanding the tops of them, being rough with my fingers by yanking them different directions, and just being aggressive overall. She also did absolutely nothing to remove my cuticles, which is probably for the best because I realized too late in the game that she was using a very old, well - used nail file and other used tools on me. For my pedicure she was unable to do any design that I asked for, including simply doing polkadots on my big toenails, but at least she was able to paint the nails so she earned a singular star. However the tool she used to remove my calluses was more like a cheese grater than some thing used for actual callus removal and actually made the bottom of my foot more rough and uneven than it was before I came in. Additionally because of how heavy duty the tool is, and because I saw her replace it back in her cart after using it on me, I have a hunch that she does not clean it between uses and that she receives is it on customers-- which I was Completely mortified by. I tried sticking out the appointment because I wanted to support a local business, and believe it or not the disrepair of the place actually compelled me to stay because I was hoping that I had found some worthy local gem that deserved My support after this pandemic, but truth be told, I'm in shock that they survived given how poor the quality of work some and ship and hygiene was. It's definitely not worth $88 for a Mani-Pedi, And certainly not worth needing to ice your fingers for. Do not take a gamble on this place!!!!! read more

One is from this weekend, the other is from two years ago for my wedding). Due to the slowdown in business because of COVID, Hattie is the only technician- so its best to call before you go to find a good time to stop by. This is a no frills place, so if you are looking for a fancy place, this isn't for you. But if you want a convenient place with consistent quality, give it a try. I had a great experience getting a gel manicure and regular pedicure today! I called ahead to make an appointment, but they seemed to have availability for walk-ins as well. They are located in the basement of a building, but the location was easy to find. They also seem to offer, massages, waxing, and potentially hair styling, though I did not see anyone receiving those services while I was there. Hattie did my manicure and Lin did my pedicure. Both were friendly and super thorough and I am really pleased with the results. I especially appreciated that Hattie took the time to help me pick out the exact right shade of nude for my nails and then recommended a great red for my toes. I've already gotten compliments on the choices! While I liked that the atmosphere of the establishment was a bit "mom and pop," I see what some other reviewers were saying about it being a bit less upscale in appearance than the average nail spa in the area. That being said, everything was clean, they have an outstanding selection of colors including OPI gel polishes (my fave), and I was happy with the overall service. A gel manicure and regular pedicure cost $65 + tip, which I felt was on the cheap to average side of what I have paid in DC. I knew the reviews here were hit or miss, so I knew what I was potentially getting into by going to Head & Nails. Not only are they up the street from my office, but I'd seen their signage that on Tuesday's, they do a $33 deal for a mani-pedi; I figured if I didn't like it, then at least I'd have gotten two services instead of just one. Knowing this might draw a crowd, I made an appointment for 1 PM. I walked in at 1:02 PM and there were two technicians and two customers, one getting a pedicure and one almost done with a manicure. The storefront is quite dingy, but sufficient. The technicians didn't notice me in the store until I grabbed their attention, and they quickly told me to choose my colors and take a seat. I waited around a few more minutes before Hattie started on my toes. The water temperature was nice, and the massage chair was pleasant as well. They were EXTREMELY quick to do my pedicure - another guest had walked in just as I was getting started. The pedicure was fine, nothing special. I noticed someone else's review commented on the lack of cleanliness and I could see that. The tools used seem to be pulled from a communal basket, and the scraper used was just rinsed after being used. I sat down for a manicure and two more people came in - still only two technicians. Similar to my pedicure, this service was extremely quick. I felt that my nails were over buffed (even more than a week later they feel rough) and similar to the pedicure, I felt that the tools were unclean. My manicure was nothing special, and in fact I ended up with a lot of air bubbles in my polish. Overall, this was the quickest mani-pedi I've ever gotten - I was in and out in less than an hour. But the cleanliness was a huge let down and the biggest reason why I would't go back. read more

Let me first start by saying EW and I very rarely write yelp reviews. I asked them to do their pedi+free mani special and there were several times throughout the process where I truly should have just gotten up and left but I was desperate and I fully got what I paid for. #1 - this facility is disgusting. They DO NOT CLEAN their pedicure tubs beyond a little cold water rinse between customers. There were little pieces of I don't even want to know what floating around in my foot tub. Not to mention a dead fly. #2 - they do not know how to scrub feet. I paid extra for the milk and honey scrub and Lin spent 4 minutes scrubbing the top of my feet rather than the bottoms which really needed it. #3 - they "remove" cuticles without any cuticle remover or oil. They literally just soak your hands and feet in plain water (NOT EVEN SOAP) and start hacking away with the tools which is obviously not effective and left me with plenty of rough edges and dead skin around my nails. #4 - when I pointed out my dead skin, Lin used her cuticle cutter on my nail bed and actually shaved off a layer of my nail bed which wasn't the cuticle. My nails are already prone to breaking and I know for a fact now in that spot they will when it grows out. All of this when she could have just put on some cuticle oil or softener and gotten rid of it without damaging my actual nail. #5 - my nails were not even filed evenly, as you can see in the picture my index nail is WAY longer than my ring finger and it just looks weird as hell. #6 - meanwhile all this is happening, Hattie is working on another girl who keeps telling her that she's hurting her. I could tell she was embarrassed to say anything but she was literally wincing. Ultimately I came back home and re did my nails myself. The pedicure looked fine, but $43+tip for a pedicure that could have given me an infection is a very steep price to pay. TRUST ME SIS, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! read more

I came in without an apt on a Sunday. I almost left as no one even greeted me when I entered. There were only 2 people getting a pedicure and one employee on his phone. However once I came in 5 more people followed. They of course did not want to turn away business. They said 2 minutes for all of the them. There was no way that they would have been able to get to everyone in 2 minutes. I was taken to get my manicure. I did like my manicure. It wasn't anything special though. I also got a brazilian wax. The lady who did it was very professional. The space where they did it was small and the door didn't completely close to lock. It was basically wedged in place. I didn't feel like anyone was going to come in, but they need to get that fixed. My manicure was basically all smudged after my wax, but I was in such a hurry I didn't say anything. I recently moved to the area and have had two pedicures, two gel manicures, and two standard manicures at this nail salon, and have been extremely impressed by the quality of the work. Every mani/pedi I have gotten has lasted much longer than I expected, allowing me to stretch my last pedi for an entire month before I went for a new one due to growth -- I literally didn't have a single chip in that time. Though I think their business has taken a hit due to COVID-19, I usually try to call ahead to make an appointment since there's usually only one technician working these days. Got dip & within 5 days two chipped. I went back to get it fixed & left & 3 more chipped. Worst dip I've ever gotten. 6 out of 10 finger nails are totally destroyed. Manicure was very task oriented too, no hand massage or lotion, full cuticle cleanup was not done, & nails weren't filed at the end after the dip either. I was charged $5 too to get my previous dip taken off before i got theirs on...not sure why that service isn't included. read more

Coming from NJ/NY were cheap, but good, mani-pedi places are on every corner, I have been SO sad that there is no such place in DC....that was until Head & Nails opened. I got an awesome mani-pedi--- really well done, with great customer service. I also got a eyebrow & lip wax-- both quick, relatively painless, and well done. While I had a very different experience than the other negative reviews, I do think some of their technicians probably aren't top-notch given another customer's experience while I was there. My nails look straight up silly. The mani I walked in at 5pm on a slow Thursday to get a mani pedi. I wanted a half-moon manicure, which I've gotten before at other nail salons, no problem. The technician didn't know what that was, and so I showed her a picture on my phone. My nails are all different from one another and not one of them looks like the photo I showed her. And she charged me the French mani price. The pedi: insufficient pumicing and she put my sandals on for me before painting my toes but didn't buckle them properly so they started falling off on the walk home... Difficult to remedy with wet nails. I was hoping my neighborhood nail salon would be at least decent. No such luck. Manicures like this make me want to get better at doing my own nails. read more

This small shop does a good job at a fair price. The five stars are for one nail tech in particular and the Tuesday promotional special. If you go on Tuesdays, you receive a "free" manicure with your pedicure ($32) and I highly recommend Heidi if she is available. It's a little cozy inside with maybe four or five pedicure chairs and the same amount of manicure stations, but it's never seemed crowded to me. I was able to get there before 5pm one day and it got a little busier just as I was leaving, so a little after 6pm. Again, if you can see Heidi, it's worth a short wait, whatever time you get there. There were a few things I didn't like, but it's not like I'm buying a house from them so I overlooked it. I've only written a Yelp review once before--for a tremendous experience. This, my second review, is for a horrible experience. Recently I went to Heads & Nails to have my gel polish removed and a new color reapplied. As is customary, my nail tech began filing the gel polish to that it would remove more easily after having soaked in acetone. She was filing the top of my nail so aggressively that I winced in pain. I said "ow" several times and finally pulled away telling her that it was very painful. That's because she had filed through the gel polish on my pinky nail and THROUGH THE NAIL ITSELF (see photo I posted)! She didn't seem to think it was a problem, and then proceeded to do the same with my other pinky. After the experience removing the polish I decided that I did not want to get another gel manicure after all. I told that to the nail tech but she proceeded to try. It became evident that she didn't understand anything I was saying and consulted another nail tech, who then tried to convince me that I should get a manicure. It's been more than 6 weeks and my nail still isn't heeled. I caution anyone thinking about going to Heads & Nails, especially if you're getting gel polish removed. read more

I was so excited about this new nail salon opening in Glover Park until I went to get a manicure and pedicure this past weekend. It was without a doubt the worst mani/pedi I or my two girlfriends have ever gotten ... My nails are so sharp I could cut raw vegetables. My friend has two hang nails hanging off her toes. My other friend had to have one nail repainted 4 times during her manicure. Luckily we didn't break the bank for this dreadful experience and took advantage of the $25 special they are running, but I guess you could say we got what we paid for. I will say everyone working in the place was very friendly and the salon seemed clean, but the folks need some SERIOUS training before I'll be coming back. read more

I have been to this place multiple times for manicures, pedicures and eyebrows. The service, unfortunately, depends entirely on the person you are provided and they don't allow you to make an appointment with a specific person. If I ask for Haitty (she does a great job on both nails and eyebrows) they would say, "She is busy". I have been given the service of Mia two times now on my eyebrows and she does a terrible job. She always seems in a hurry to get the job done rather that getting the job well done. She wouldn't let you look at the mirror for more than two seconds so I usually pay up and leave and fix my eyebrows when am home. I have also had both a manicure and pedicure from Hattie and Lin several times but after my last visit all of my nails started breaking at the tip. I had to use band-aids and cover the nails to stop them from cracking further. I also noticed that my toe nails looked somewhat bruised when I removed the nail polish. I would not recommend this place, but if you decide to get their service I would suggest that you read the reviews and try to ask for the service of a specific person. read more

I have been going to Heads and Nails since I moved to Glover Park nine months ago. Ann always does a fabulous job with my gel manicure, spa pedicure, and eyebrow waxing. For my manicures, she is very careful to make sure the gel polish does not go outside of the nail area, which drives me crazy and usually leads to the gel beginning to peel prematurely. The salon recently changed ownership and has been remodeled. Although the prices have gone up a few dollars here and there, the environment and the technicians' equipment is much nicer, and the manicure now includes a neck and shoulder massage. The new pedicure chairs are amazing and now have tablets you can play with while getting your pedi. read more

This place is ok. It's literally 5 minutes from my place. I have a few things to nit pick though. My nail tech was Alina. She was a little bit on the slower side, but she was meticulous with my cuticles which I appreciate. I opted for the Tuesday pedi with free mani which came out to be 33$. Not a bad price. I usually get a gel mani and pedi, but they didn't have an option for it and I was in desperate need for some pedi TLC. My pedi wasn't bad, they didn't have some of the luxuries that I was used to at my usual nail salon (which is now further since I moved). They don't use cuticle oil, so both my hands and toes were left a little dry, soft, but definitely on the drier side. Most of my issues came with my mani. Although she was meticulous with my cuticles, my polish not so much. She filed my already weak nails (my fault for picking the shellac off of it the week prior), which left them a little more brittle. My nails were super short, and she missed a few spots on the edges. The polish too was thinner than I expected. I have the same Essie color at home and I don't think it's usually that thin.... Although my mani wasn't up to par, if my feel are in desperate need for a treatment, I would come back. Only on a Tuesday though. Maybe I'll try someone else next time...but for now if I have the time to spend I'd still opt to head back to my go-to place back in Maryland... read more

While I was staying in DC for a business trip I went to this place for a manicure and got both for $33.00. It is walking distance from Savoy Suites Hotel. Love my mani and pedi. Excellent service by a lovely chinese lady that unfortunately did not ask her name but she has the most adorable 3yrs old baby boy. Love her service, love my mani and pedi. I'm going to stand up for this place. A few weeks ago I went to a different nail salon a bit further down Wisconsin from my house, but decided to try this place after seeing their $25 Tuesday mani/pedi special. I called while at work and made a same day appt for 6pm to see Ann (since the woman below recommended her) and they were very nice on the phone. I came in a few minutes early and Ann came up and greeted me and had me pick my color. She is probably the nicest and friendliest nail technician I've ever had. She did have a different technician do the polish on the client she was already with (which may have sucked for that girl - getting a different technician halfway through) but I think it says something about Ann- that if a client asks for her specifically and has an appt (versus a walk in) she makes sure to take care of them and start their appt on time. I did my mani first (usually they do pedis first) because I had errands to run and wanted to make sure my nails were dry. She did a great job, had me check the nail length, shape, cuticles, etc. and was careful in general. It wasn't the longest mani I've had which honestly didn't matter to me because she did a good job and I was getting the spa pedi anyway (which is longer). During my pedi (which was amazing. I definitely recommend the spa add on for only $10 more) it started to get really busy. I counted 8 other customers at one time and they definitely didn't have enough technicians, but anyone that did have an appointment was taken care of immediately. Walk ins did have to wait a bit but that's not the fault of the business. Bottom line, my nails look great, Ann was amazing (the only technician that really talked to her clients that I saw) and it was a great price. It also helps that it's a five minute walk from my house. I did notice that, at least at the time I was there, they didn't use tools for a bag. They had the little baskets on each technicians desk. I didn't see the tools get switched for new ones when she moved on to her next client while my nails were drying, but I do remember seeing her wipe them with an alcohol swab after she finished on me. And they looked clean when she first started (I made sure to check since a few people said they were dirty). Wasn't a deal break for me but may be for others. And as for the guy with creepy long nails - there was only one guy and he had very short nails. I checked. If you go on Tuesday, especially after work, make an appointment. It kept getting busier and busier towards 6:30/7:00pm. But don't book Ann because dibs. My roommates also went here this past weekend and loved it as well. read more
