I visited them today, having eyebrows waxing. Horrible experience, poor customer service, very dirty and messy place. The person did my eyebrows used very hot wax and burned my skin. When she finished she let me looked at it and I realized my eyebrows were uneven and she took so much off from one side and looked different and shorter from the other side. Not only that when I told her she didn't own her mess and mistake. Her colleague saw me and she accepted that was wrong. Unfortunately they even didn't try to correct it or apologize. I had booked a pedicure through class pass and brought my own gel polish (color and top coat). I was informed that though I had brought my own color I would pay an additional $15 as they needed to use the light to cure the gel. I asked if I used a polish from them what the cost would be and they stated it would be $15 as well. Paying extra to cure my nails is not the problem but to charge $15 when I have provided the main cost of the service is greedy. I have gone to different salons where once the product was provided you pay for the services. Considering it takes more time for regular polish to dry the amount of electricity required is practically the same for either service. My pedicure tech was very thorough to throughout the service. Just the predatory pricing practices that will stop my use of this salon. read more

Tried to give this place another chance but left with the messiest dip manicure I've ever had. This was after the nail tech attempted french tip nails and it was completely uneven and missing from the edges of my nails so after an hour into the appointment, she had to buff/take it all off. It was extremely hot on my nail beds. That's when she told me my nails were too short and to come back later. But that could have been assessed at the beginning of the appointment instead of wasting an hour trying a french manicure. Then she just did an all black dip. After two hours, I wanted to leave. Friendly salon in bustling Friendship Heights! This was my first time and I would certainly return. I was greeted and seated quickly which I appreciated as I was on my lunch break. The nail technician was very conversational and did a great job with my nails. They do a warm towel and hand massage throughout the service. The salon was modern with white tables and red chairs. Horrible place, my nails were butchered here today. Cut waaaay too short, bleeding and I am furious I paid $80 for this mess. Really strange place - I $hit you not - at one point a customer who wanted a chair massage was asked to sit IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SALON, take her shirt OFF, and the nail tech proceeded to bang on her like a bongo drum with everyone staring while this poor lady was in her BRA. This wasn't the worst experience I've had at a nail salon, but it was still not great. I went to Acqua for a gel polish removal and a regular manicure on July 9. I popped in because it was clean and busy, and I was already in Chevy Chase for a doctor's appointment. After a few issues here, I wish I'd waited until I got home, gel chips and all. I know of at least three places I can walk to from my house and get quality service. The tech I had didn't let the foils sit long enough, so she was aggressive when she scraped the gel. My natural nails looked awful. I knew that a gel removal meant some damage was to be expected, but this was too much. For the record, I'm not a gel manicure addict. I can count the number I've had in my lifetime on one hand. I'm not sure what went wrong this time. I was also frustrated with how she handled my nail length. I came in with long(ish) nails and asked her to preserve most of the length. She didn't. She cut them below the fingertip and nipped my nail beds. Once they were cut and filed, I noticed the lengths were uneven and pointed it out to her. To her credit, she could tell I was upset and offered to add tips. I was secretly afraid it would just be more damage, so I said it was okay. I let her cut them down more so they could at least be even. The polish looked okay, but it wasn't worth everything that came before it. It began chipping that night and was so bad that I had to remove it 48 hours later. I'm now focused on repairing my nails with nourishing basecoats. They can only do so much, but I'm lucky because my nails grow quickly. I know a lot of people are loyal to this place, so they're doing something right. My tech was probably just having an off day. I'm wary, but I'm not saying you shouldn't go to Acqua. I think those warnings and one-star reviews as a whole should be reserved for places that are unhygienic/unsafe, or if a place has terrible management. Just take caution. Be clear when you tell them what you want and don't be afraid to speak up. My experience made me decide that I won't be back, but YMMV. read more

I have gotten many pedicures here from a variety of technicians here and they are always great and last two weeks. Even the regular, non-spa versions are very good. I also periodically get gel manicures. I have noticed that over time the space around the gel manicures is getting bigger and bigger. Today I got a gel manicure and it looks like it is a week grown out! I can usually count on 1.5 - 2 weeks for a gel manicure and this one will look horrible within a week. Looks like only pedicures here for me. Three stars only because the pedicures are good and staff of nice. Would give 2 or less stars for just gel pedicure. read more

I've found my new nail salon! I was so worried when I moved to the area that I wouldn't find someone as talented as my previous nail tech. Hannah and Tina are wonderful! These are two different SNS manicures that Hannah has done beautifully! I love how much care and attention to detail Hannah takes in shaping my nails. Also if you've never tried SNS, you should. I always used to do gel since they last so long. SNS last about the same amount of time but make your nails stronger so they don't break as easily. TERRIBLE SERVICE!! I arrived for my 3pm appointment and left at 3:50 without being seen for my service after waiting nearly an hour for a mani/pedi. I do not recommend this establishment. Go somewhere else, don't give this business your time or money. In addition im six months pregnant and a woman of color, and felt as though I was being ignored and disregard as I waited with obvious discomfort. My wife and I walked in last Friday afternoon and were treated with the best service we've had in Maryland and the DMV area. Hannah the owner is very friendly and never before have we been offered water, coffee, and other drinks during our servicing at a nail salon. All done sanitarily and with a genuine gesture. We both had Pedicures done and my wife also had a Gel Manicure. Their Spa Pedicure chairs are newer and the water vortex bath for our feet was very relaxing. My wife's gel nail polish from a week ago still looks brand new and she is very happy with them. They found matching non-gel polish for her feet as well. They applied a natural topcoat on my nails and I've received compliments from my co-workers this past week. Nancy worked on my nails and Kim did my wife's and they did a fantastic job. The other technicians Lucie and Tina were friendly too - because they weren't busy they helped out with our servicing and we really appreciated that. I have come to this place I've the years and now I remember why I stopped going. I got my first powder manicure the weekend before last and two days later the top coat had come off on the majority of my nails. I called them to let them know and went by yesterday to have them correct it. Unbelievably enough, they sanded my nails and put two top coats (a process that was different than the first time, which I asked about and they kept dismissing the question). It looks even worse now than it did before I went. They even had the audacity to say that I didn't have to pay as though I would have! I went to get a mani-pedi on Saturday and paid $60. I've been to Aqua Luxe a few times before - two to three times for a regular pedicure, and once for a gel manicure. On this recent visit, I selected the OPI infinite shine polish, and was charged an extra $8 for a base coat application that's supposed to make it last longer. However, not even a week in (today is Wednesday), and my manicure looks a week and a half old. Aside from washing my hands, I haven't hand-washed any dishes or laundry, so I am very disappointed in the quality. Prior to this visit, I'd had a regular pedicure done at Mimosa salon in DC using the OPI infinite shine polish. I was impressed by the lasting power, so decided to give it a go on my hands this time too, but from looking at them one would think I used a regular polish. When I sat down to start my pedicure, there was another lady already getting hers. However, I was the first to get my pedicure finished. Of course, this lady could have been getting a spa experience of sorts, but either way, I felt that both the pedicure and manicure were rushed. My previous pedicure at Aqua Luxe (with Nancy, if I recall correctly) was so heavenly that I found myself craving to go back, since she did an awesome job massaging my feet as part of the regular pedicure. If I do decide to go back to Aqua Luxe, I will make a reservation with her. She also really went the extra mile the last time I went (close to store closing), but did not rush the process. Aqua Luxe is in my neighborhood and I've gone back there out of convenience rather than having a great experience. I would like to be a regular, but I find the inconsistency in the quality of their service to be off-putting, as well as the surprise extra charges for seemingly routine things. From my observations, known regulars (and those who look like they have lots of money) receive better quality service than the likes of me who go there once in a blue moon. Also, if you have one nail technician who you like and keep going back to, I think that increases the chances of you getting a quality mani or pedi. read more

I've been to a lot of salons over the years, and this one deserves 5 stars ! Have been going to Tiffany at Aqualuxe nails for several years. She's so gentle as well meticulous to make my toes pretty again! The salon is very clean, and COVID safety measures have been put in place making me feel at ease going for a mani/pedi. The tools they use are for me only and each time they are sterilized and saved for my next visit. It may seem frivolous during a pandemic to get a mani/pedi, but it sure does lift the spirit and puts a spring into my step again. read more

I think I had my first angry manicure experience. The nail tech was doing my nails like she was angry at my fingers. The water to soften my cuticles was cold and she filed my nails crooked (I pointed out both issues which made hey rougher and work faster). Not the worse manicure I ever had but I would never go here unless I'm desperate or in a time crunch since they're so convenient to where I live. Management needs to train these techs better. My daughter went here and received the worst nail design. It was not what she asked for, and they couldn't understand her well enough to correct it at a cost of $60. I'm extremely particular about my shape for my nails so she was really patient and at one point I asked if I could file them a little myself to show her how I liked it. I would suggest all nail technicians to continually ask their client if they like the shape because hardly anyone ever does. I live in the neighborhood where this nail salon is located. I was hoping to find a great salon that I could walk to on a regular basis. Unfortunately, I received very poor customer service. The nail technician began working on my pedicure and within a few minutes picked up a phone call. She then said "hold on" to me and walked out of the room. I was left with one foot in the water and one foot out for over 10 minutes with one of my toes roughly filed and hurting. The other staff kept asking about her and then I began to ask if she was coming back. I received no answer, only a continual calling of her name. After five more minutes I decided to leave and asked for a towel to dry my feet. By this time they brought someone else, but at that point I was very uncomfortable and needed to make sure I met my next appointment. As I said thank you and left I heard the staff giggling at my expense with the others. As one of the few minorities in this neighborhood I was happy to support a minority owned business. Top customer service should not be asked for especially when the customer is patient and nice. Derision as she leaves is a further insult. read more

My boyfriend lives literally 15 feet away from here so I decided to try it out yesterday because it was so convenient. The salon is small but super super clean and modern. I really enjoyed the layout and the look of everything. I was seen right away which I kind of expected since I went on a Monday afternoon around 3pm. Sadly I didn't catch the name of the woman who did my nails. At first she wasn't really paying much attention and kind of rushing. She was pretty reckless and was just swiping things across my nails super fast. She ended up cutting me with the file. I was bleeding and she was holding pressure on it so I wouldn't see it lol. As nail cuts go, it's pretty deep. She was very apologetic and took her time afterwards, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place. The rest of the time I was just tense because my finger was hurting and she had already done it once and poured alcohol on it so it was hard to enjoy anything after the. She was very meticulous with the shape of the nail and making sure my cuticles looked good which I appreciate. I love the color too. In the end I paid $35 for an acrylic fill with REGULAR polish. That is high even for the area. Ive been everywhere in the dmv and even some nicer places only charged me $30. Also, since she cut me so I expected her to take some off, which most salons do out of courtesy. read more

This service has not only gone downhill but put me at risk. After the lockdown ended, I tried this salon for a dipping powder fingernail fill and pedi, despite the high prices, as the manager had been asking me to do so for over a year (I was an occasional customer for polish changes). With some reluctance, I did, and the work was good, close and prompt, so I made another appointment specifically with the manager, while on the premises. When I returned one month later, it was total anarchy. No one knew with whom the appointment was made, no one could reach the manager, and the young lady who took care of me got several processes confused. It was only when I returned to my previous salon that I discovered 'confusion' was not the only problem. The nail treatment was so ineptly done that I had both water and fungus under two nails, which can turn into something much nastier--a nail bed infection. To make matters worse, I had asked the manager to call me, which she never did. This neighborhood is blessed with lots of services, which means lots of competition, and any salon needs at least one person capable of making and honoring appointments and communicating with customers clearly...not just in English but in multiple languages, as there are employees from several embassies living up here. I'm back with my reliable salon in Bethesda and staying there. read more

Hannah and Tina are literally hilarious. The place is below my office so I go often. Originally, when they first opened they were not the best but they have significantly improved in service. I get gel manicures and pedicures there. If they aren't that busy, they will help you out by doing both at once which of course is lovely if you want it to be fast. I finally got the balls to get my brows done their too and they were actually really good too. Wish I remembered the girls name who did them. Just ask for someone who is actually good and be willing to wait if need be. Hannah I heard is the best but I haven't had the privilege yet.
