Going on two months since I got a gel X full set and pedicure. I'm still dealing with foot fungus that I got from the salon I've never had it in my life. they do not put their tools that are used for pedicures or manicures in a autoclave to sterilize the instruments. My gel set started coming off within six days by day 10 they were all off I also show them the design I would like or something similar they said they could do it took over an hour to do four fingers because she did not know how to do it even though it was the most simplest design read more

I never write reviews unless its really bad. Unfortunately, this experience was it. Made an appointment and was started 45 minutes late, no apologies were made. The artist started my nails and asked no questions, once i noticed the process wasnt what i booked for i was made to feel silly for speaking up for myself. The tech advised me to split my appointment in half and come back tomorrow to finish my nails ( i had to leave by a certain time). I came back the next day got my nails painted and was still charged $88 for a fill in. I'm about 3 days out from leaving and my nail has already broken and paint chipped. The front desk was friendly and the woman giving my pedicure was nice and everyone was wearing a mask. That's it, everything else was lack luster, bad, or absurd. I was getting a quick gel pedicure before an event The place was dirty. There were powders and dirt and dust on the pedicure chair I was sitting in and On the floor where I took my shoes off. Grime on the knobs of the pedicure chair and the buttons I touched. The bottles of scrub and oil had grey dirt caked on the nozzles. The tools were put inside old containers of wasabi pea snacks and things- which I'm all for up cycling but those can't be sterilized. She did not even push my cuticles back. She did not rub my feet in any way, which you do usually get a casual rub. She did not smooth out any part of my foot- or even look at my heels. I just bought new shoes that gave me a rough spot on the bottom of my foot and pointed it out and let her know. She took out a LITERAL CHEESE GRATER FOR A KITCHEN. It had the kitchen label on it and everything, full sized grater. The grater didn't hurt, she made sure to ask me if it did. It left my skin in worse condition then when I came in. The bottom of your foot should not look ripped up and dry after a $55 pedicure. I was in shock and let it happen. read more

This nail salon is especially lackluster. I came to get my nails done this past weekend and I was not impressed with the service. When I walked in, the salon was nicely lit, with many nail polishes on display. Despite the fact that I walked in without an appointment, they were very friendly about it and quick to get me seated. They had great color selection from OPI and Essie. For my service, I got a regular manicure. There was nothing extraordinary about this manicure, and honestly, I could have saved my money and done it myself at home. First off, the manicure began with the tech dipping my fingers in a bowl of slightly warm water that had turned cold by the time she was ready to dip in my second hand. Next, I had a hang nail that I told her to leave alone that she picked at and eventually it started bleeding. Once they were done filing and clipping my cuticles, the nail tech then began to give me the weakest hand massage ever with the worst lotion ever. The lotion was barely moisturizing and when it had been absorbed into my skin the tech just kept rubbing my dry hand. The nail tech painted my nails okay, but there was a slight wave in my nails from the fans the use to dry pushing the polish. I told her, and she said it would go away but it didn't. If this was the only nail salon left in the world, I'd probably just stay home and do my nails myself. If all you need is color on your nails, then yes come here. But if you want the spa aspect that a manicure usually has, then this is not the place for you. The quality of the service made me sad because the people who work here are truly the nicest. read more

I used to get my nails done at a salon around the corner from Nail Design; however, I switched to Nail Design when I read their excellent Yelp reviews and learned that they offer true SNS nails. My former salon used a technique that involved applying powder to the nails before drying them under an ultraviolet (UV) lamp. I was pleased to learn that Nail Design uses the SNS dip powder that hardens and dries instantly without the use of a UV lamp's potentially harmful rays. Lucy has been my technician on both of my visits to this salon and she's done an excellent job of polishing and shaping my nails on both occasions. I can't help but admire how natural my nails look each time I leave the salon. There are fifteen manicure stations and ten pedicure stations inside the salon and there's always enough staff on hand to service all the clients without an extensive wait time. There's a private manicure/pedicure room in the front of the salon for those who want to have a service done with friends. There is an ATM inside the salon in case you need it, but thankfully this isn't one of those salons that try to dissuade you from paying with a credit credit card by charging you less money to pay in cash. I've made appointments prior to both of my visits and I appreciated being seen on time. I like the service at this salon. I had been to nail design quite a few times pre-covid. I went today for a pedicure manicure and I only wanted a buff manicure--no color. I was told for a buff manicure, a $5 additional fee would charged. I thought, OK, they must do something really special for a buff manicure. I learned that that was an error on my part. Instead of getting a nail color which is in the cost of the manicure, I paid an extra five dollars to have a buff run across my nails three times. It was ridiculous and unfair to charge someone she was not getting a nail polish an extra five dollars for something that cost them nothing took less than 3 seconds each hand. When I read about Nail Designs on Yelp, I was cautiously optimistic. From Catherine H's description it sounded like what I was looking for - $35 for a mani/pedi, a discerning clientele. Lacking any great choices in the District, I headed to Bethesda and decided to sell some clothes to Mustard Seed and go get a mani/pedi at ND. When I discovered ND's location in a tiny strip of stores I was hopeful. When I walked in and found a long line of spa chairs in an otherwise no-frills environment I thought I had come home. I picked my polishes (a good selection of Essie and OPI) and hopped into the spa chair. I caught up on my US Weekly and enjoyed a relaxing time of it. My nail technician was friendly, efficient and did great work on my hands and feet. The only slightly peculiar moment came when she forced me into the bathroom to wash my hands after putting lotion on them. Perhaps ND ought to consider getting one of those hot towel warmers and use them to ready the nails for polish. So I went to this nail salon for the first time and it was the worse experience ever!! I told them I am going to a wedding and I want French. Before they start on my manicure they said I have to pay and I did. The lady who did my nails was really bad first of all she didn't ask what shape of nail I wnat she started working on my nails. My nails weren't even! I didn't say anything bcuz I was in a rush. She started putting nail publish on my nails and she didn't even know how to do it. I asked her nicely to do it better and she tried but she couldn't ( I got up and I told the manager nicely that this isn't what a professional does, and I don't have time to do it now bcuz I'm going to a wedding) and i went back a day after I was talking to her she didn't refund me and she literally hush me and say step out of the shop. I went there today after reading nice reviews about the technician Lynn. I have to say everything people wrote was true. She is methodical and wonderfully patient and effective with ingrown nails, just like others said. She also mentioned that next time I should arrive 15 min. earlier so my feet can be socked for longer so she could take better care of my terrible ingrown. My manicure was done by Meg, and also was fantastic, I am very impressed by her methods and how perfectly painted my hands were - pictures speak by themselves. I can't believe I finally found a place reasonably priced place with such talented people, specially by the fact they could handle my awful ingrown nails! I came here after reading the reviews and thought I'd try out SNS because my nails were so damaged after 2 rounds of gel manicures. I was told to sit with Pauline (?), who kept speaking to me in Vietnamese, even though I kept telling her I don't understand (I'm Korean). After the nail tech next to her explained what color I wanted and Pauline started removing my gel manicure, I thought we were good to go. After the gel was removed and she had done some filing, she proceed to use the electric drill file. She started with my right hand and when she went over my cuticle, it stung and I thought I saw a cut. But she didn't stop so I thought I was just being sensitive. Then she went to my left thumb and immediately, I pulled my thumb away because she really had cut me and it started to bleed. I showed her the cut and WITHOUT A SINGLE APOLOGY, she brushed me off as though I was making a fuss for no reason and continued filing my nails. Then she changed out the drill to a smaller one and did the rest of my cuticles. After that, I was in the worst mood. I complained to the guy sitting at the register and he said make an appointment next time. Um hello, your picture say walk-ins welcome! But I guess that just means walk-ins welcome so their bad technicians can practice. I also saw a few of my nails are stuck to my fingers from the glue ... if this is what an SNS manicure is, I don't want it ever again. That was the worst $40 I've spent. read more

Been going to this place forever, first time since the pandemic. Usually they do a good job, even though they use a 'used' nail file. You can tell because there's nail ash all over the file. Today I went and my lady put zero effort in. I don't ask for much, but at least filing my nails, giving them a shape would be nice. However, I got none of that. She skimped the file over my nails. I received gel polish, I have a very good feeling this is going to last just as long, if not shorter, then regular polish because she didn't seal the tip. I'm begging you, don't waste your money. I'm grateful for everyone working during this hard time, i'm just disappointed because i know the potential, and i did not see any today. This is my 3-week later update. My nails are PERFECT. No chipping, breakage, nada. The only thing changed is that my nails have grown. Best manicure I have ever gotten. -------------------------------------- Coco did an awesome job with my SNS nails. Super fast application and supposed to last longer than gels. I can't wait to go back! No UV lamp wait time, if you're unfamiliar with SNS, so it's speedier than Gel to apply. Everyone was very attentive and accommodating to my requests (I don't like getting my cuticles cut. Most people seem annoyed when I ask but they were friendly. Also funny! Joined in on my friend and mine's conversation instead of talking to other technicians. SNS nail and pedi took 1 hour and was $67. Other places usually take me up to two hours. read more

I had an SNS manicure done by Coco and she was terrible. She rushed through it, even though the salon was almost empty. Multiple coworkers came over and told her she was going too fast, but she ignored them and continued to rush through, doing a horrible job. I went with my mom, and they began her manicure 10 minutes before mine, yet Coco still finished almost 10 minutes before my mom's was done! She didn't smooth or file them down at the end, so my nails now look incredibly thick and are painfully uncomfortable. I will be going to another salon to have this polish removed as soon as possible, because not only does it feel terrible, but it looks even worse. Update: I returned for a SNS manicure from Tu-it, and she did a much better job. She was thorough, took her time, and smoothed them down at the end so they were the appropriate thickness. Came on a weekday afternoon. Brought a friend, who had recommended I try SNS nails. We had a 5pm appointment. We arrived at 4:50. Were greeted nicely by the staff. They seated us right away. We had a very pleasant time, joking around and laughing with our nail tech during our visit. Very nice girl. But the service wasn't the issue. The issue was the quality of our tech's work. She must have been rushing because it's been 10 days and I'm already having problems with my nails. I have separation on my thumb nail, where the SNS is pulling off from my actual nail, causing a gap. Also, on my ring finger the SNS wasn't applied properly and a corner has chipped off. Not too impressed with my tech's work. So, overall pleasant salon experience with the staff, but a definitely a fail with my tech's work. I won't be coming back here. There are many other salons that do SNS. I'm already searching for a new place to correct the problems I'm having. read more

I've been before for a fill in and I loved both the results and experience. However, that was not the case with my last visit. I came in for a pedicure and SNS nails and I sat down in the salon chair and was ready to take a few minutes to relax. The minute I sat down they were scrubbing my legs, and a woman was getting to work on my hands. I was then prompted to turn off the massage chair so she could do my hands. That was a bit of a bummer, as I was looking forward to sitting back and getting my fingers and toes done at different times. My toes were finished in 15 min- little time for pampering, just a quick scrub, basic grooming, and color. My hands were crossed over each other the entire time so I could get the SNS done. My nails turned out subpar, the color was splotchy and shape uneven, unlike the amazingness that was my last visit. I was in and out in 30 min. I was rushed out with little time to relax. So what I'm getting at here- if you want a quick in and out kind of experience, where you're in a rush and don't want to linger -sure, go for it. If you're looking for a wholistic experience, where you get your nails done while taking some time for yourself to get pampered, look elsewhere. I recently moved to the area and have been on the hunt for a new nail salon and I think Nail Designs could be a strong contender. It was easy to make an appointment the day of and they even managed to squeeze me in a little early (5:00 appt, arrived at 4:45 and had to wait no longer than 5 minutes). They had a great color selection and the salon seemed relatively clean. Also, I didn't have this done since I got a manicure after my pedicure, but its really nice now they offer to wrap your toes so they don't get messed up if you're leaving shortly after a pedicure. read more
