I was in the area and received a gel manicure from this salon. I came on a Friday around 5pm and there was only one other customer there. However, there was also only one technician working. I should've asked how long the wait would be, but she set me up and soaked my nails for about 15 minutes before getting to me. I noticed the water used in the bowl was from a portable hot water boiler, the nail filer/buffer was quite used, and she dropped it on the floor. However, I believe she noticed that I noticed it dropped so she took out another filer but it was also just as used. The gel manicure itself went smoothly, and it has been over a week and my nails have held up. The gel manicure was $30 and they provided a complimentary water bottle at the end, but I'm not sure if I would return. read more

Do not go. I get my hair done next door so thought I'd try them out but I just got the worst pedicure I've ever gotten in my life. It was painful and uncomfortable. The guy who was doing it was rough and you could tell he didn't want to be there or want to be working. I peeped his negative vibe as soon as I walked in and should have taken that as a cue to leave. I don't know if he regularly does pedis. One of the other techs had to leave so he may have been filling in but he manhandled my feet (no pun intended) and the resulting pedi was mediocre. 3 on a scale from 1-10. I walked out thinking my experience at King Nails was great, until I realized the work did not last. I had a manicure, pedicure, and full arm wax, all for a reasonably priced $50, which is unheard of in DC. The staff was friendly. The actual work and quality appeared fine. It wasn't until the next day, when two nails started chipping, that I became worried. Then, my pedicure starting chipping within four days. And, finally I experienced a breakout on my arms. It's 3.75 stars really. This place gives a good manicure & pedicure ($26)- don't let the aesthetics fool you. I've been going to this place regularly for well over 2 years now. Why do I keep coming back to this even though I live in SS and drive past a ton of others to get there? The QUALITY OF SERVICE- The ladies here do the best pedicure because they take their time, shape your nails, clip the cuticles, scrub the heels, etc. Its not a 20 minute pedicure that many other places in the area try to do. Nope usually its 45 minutes. They do have new massage chairs which are a nice upgrade from the old ones . The manicures take 30-45 minutes but they last for days even if you're doing dishes without gloves. The STAFF- I've gone many of times around 745pm (week days & weekends) and they take me every time. Being a working woman sometimes you just can't fit it in earlier. The ladies here totally understand and urge me to come in and relax. They even offer me fruits while they are all waiting for me to finish drying so they can go home. So lemme give you some tips if you're going to visit this place: 1) This is not a spa- you're here for maintenance not ambiance 2) You want the latest colors- you may want to bring a bottle with you. While they have OPI & China Glaze, its not always the most up-to-date collection. I always bring my old reliable color with me just in case. 3) Call before to ask if you can come now - they give approximate suggestions for when exactly you should arrive This place doesn't look like much at all but the people who are there give good old fashioned nail service that is tough to find here in DC. OK, I decided to give this place another shot. On first glance, I saw they had cleaned this place up a bit and the soda rings had disappeared into the paradise where all good soda rings go. Then I realized this place is under new ownership and because of my experience dealing with these people, I have officially named this place the "Noisy Nickel and Dime Palace for Nails" and here is why. Firstly, the chatter and noise level in this place was completely overwhelming and guess what, I was the only patron there. Every employee, including my nail technician, was talking to one another as if they were all born in a barn. Too bad for me I guess:-(! On to the pedicure and manicure. The service itself was not awful but this is what turned my stomach: "You want scrub of feet, $10.00 extra, you want buff, $5.00 extra," and on and on and on. Just tell me the price of your services is $45.00 and stop with this damned nickel and dime-ing crap because it gives your place a sense of being low class. If the price is $30.00 then it is or make it all inclusive and raise the damned price to reflect it!! Even when I had changed my mind and did not want the foot scrub, because my nail technician did not speak english and the go between refused to inform her of my change in decision, out came the scrub and on it went. I have been going to Kings Nail off and on for a few years now. Is it as nice as V Nails in CH? No way. Do they do a better set of acrylics? Oh my, yes they do! Let me be clear. I do not go here to get pampered. I do not go here for the experience. This place is good for two things: a nice set of acrylics and decent nail designs. Their nail techs know how to repair and put on a thin layer with no extra crap on the cuticles. The one thing that bothers me is that they could have a wall or divider between the salon part and the cleaning/laundry area. In general, they could spruce up the place. read more

Quick, poor filing and shaping, cuticles left shabby, nail polish poorly applied to the point where previous person's color bled into mine and he had to redo multiple nails (only upon request), nail polish left on my skin which I had to also request to clean up. Basically zero knowledge. Maybe a different staff member would be better. The place is dirty top to bottom with junk lying everywhere. Dried up, disorganized nail polish. There must be zero ventilation because it reeks of chemicals. So unhealthy for the staff! With so few places in Petworth, it's super disappointing. read more

I am so happy the local nail salon is under new management! I have been twice and Annie (formerly of V Nails in Columbia Heights) is a skilled nail technician. I have been pleased with the results. The price is reasonable and if you go "off hours" the wait is short. The salon is very clean, a big improvement over previous management. Would like to see more "traditional" classy nail colors. If you want a bright red or light pink, you might consider bringing your polish. read more

I've been hesitant to try this spot because the Yelp reviews are so mixed and because they don't consistently answer their phone and seem to make their own hours from time to time. In any case, they are in my neighborhood and I don't always feel like traveling to my fave nail spot in Dupont Circle (DC Body Co Spa & Nails). The place was clean, there was just the owner, another nail tech and an older Asian woman who was asleep in one of the pedicure chairs. I think the woman who did my nails was newer. She spoke very little English, was timid but very nice. Everything was just okay. The polish application was just okay, the pedicure was just okay. I didn't feel like my feet were as smooth as other places have gotten them (that's key for me with a pedicure) and the polish pooled around my cuticles (polish application is also key for me). When I pointed this out to my nail tech, she did use a paintbrush tool dipped in polish remover and removed most of the excess pooled polish. They are better than the spot right around the corner on Georgia Avenue and across the street from Dunkin Donuts (forgot their name but will review/their pedicure was official, lasted mad long and was $20-but they don't have quality or good colors) because it does not smell like an autobody repair shop when you come in and they mucho polish colors. King Nails is odorless, quiet and clean from what I saw. A basic pedi is $23 dollars and I would go there again because it is close by, fairly relaxing, clean and they had lots of quality polish and colors!!! Oh! They also gave complimentary bottled water! One thing though, my nail tech did my entire pedicure with latex gloves on (never had that experience before) and the owner who was working on a client when I arrived, did not have any gloves on. Curious to me because once the owner said pick your color to me, she said something to my nail tech (not in English) and she put latex gloves on. The people that run this business are really nice. I always get charged 26 bucks for a mani-pedi no matter what time I go. In fact, one day I couldn't get to the nail place until ten minutes before closing and they stayed open to make sure I got everything I needed done. I definitely like this place. This was one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had, i don't even write yelp reviews unless i have something nice to say but man COME ON. I went in for a soak off and to get my eyebrows touched up NEITHER WENT WELL. My eyebrows are two different shapes and she kept being unable to rip the wax off which in turn made it terribly painful and she didn't ask me how I'd like my eyebrows to be shaped as well as she waxed it over the nail table. My soak off is incomplete and i have a large layer of acrylic still on my hands. I will not be returning i topped 10$ bc i just felt bad for the business, i was rushed and it may be bc they're understaffed but i just my eyebrows are so uneven and i now have to wait for them to grow back to fix it, I will never return read more

It took me 7 months to finally try this place after moving into the neighborhood. And I wish I had just waited longer. I was just feeling too lazy to walk the couple extra blocks to Envy. My fault. The most modern thing in this place is the 1-800-Collect Mr. T magnet. I now have a mediocre manicure and an even more mediocre pedicure that was done WITHOUT WATER!!! What?!? Not even a massage! I was the only person there, so I thought that perhaps the spa chairs/foot baths didn't work. Strike one. As I was drying though, another woman walked in and asked for a pedicure and they filled a basin with water at a spa chair and went to it! I asked my lady what happened with me and she said she *thought* I just wanted a polish change. Yeah - never said that, so pretty big assumption. And the fact that I walked in without polish to even change should have been a hint. There are two reason to get a pedicure: 1) the polish, 2) the foot massage. I got one part...and it wasn't stellar, so out of this place scores a 3.5 out of 10 at the best. read more
