I didn't have a great experience here. I got a gel manicure and a pedicure. Gel manicure: The lines were unclean and uneven and the polish is lumpy and thick in parts. Pedicure: My tech cut my toe during the pedicure and there was blood on the towel. My toe nails were filed unevenly. Please see the pictures for reference. I was the only customer in the shop at the time and the first customer of the day so I'm not sure why I received this poor level of service. I don't think I'll give this place another try. read more

I stumbled across this shop while running some other errands on H street. I normally go to another shop downtown but I urgently needed a manicure and this shop was literally in front of me. The shop owner helped me and she was very nice. She seemed like she knew all her customers because she has been there for 18 years and she was confused who I was since she didn't recognize me, lol. My manicure was done with attention and care. I'm torn, I don't know if I'll come back here or go to my regular shop! But definitely recommend - support small business! read more

I was ill from sleeping poorly on a hotel bed so I had to go find a fix and she checked in to ensure I was coming to. I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews, but they were misleading. My acrylic full set was sloppily done and Lisa was not attentive to detail. I had to ask her to fix my nails multiple times. She did fix it, but with complaints. The length of time my pedicure and fully set took was inconvenient - over 2. The $5 difference in price when, compared to other salons, is not worth it. I would not go back nor recommend this place. read more

4.5 stars What a wonderful little find! I popped in to King Nails on a Thursday night without an appointment at around 6pm, and even though they were short-staffed, they still made space for me. The place is small and was a little sweltering on a hot day, but the couple staffing the business were kind, helpful, and friendly. The prices are also very affordable. I had an event that weekend and wanted my nails to be sure to last, so I wanted to get a gel manicure. They had a good selection of colors , including the Midnight Black that I wanted. The male technician assisted me on this visit. He shaped my nails into a perfect round, cleaned up my cuticles, and gave a relaxing hand/lower arm massage. I tend to be relatively quiet, and he respected that, but we also cracked a few jokes here and there, which was the perfect balance for me. They were very cautious with making sure that my nails dried properly before I left so that they didn't get chipped or nicked. My nails lasted two and a half weeks without a single chip, crack, or even any real signs of wear and tear. This is probably the best gel manicure that I've ever gotten. The next time I get a chance to have my nails done, I will definitely be returning to King Nails. Great little hole in the wall salon that puts in the effort and care to make sure their customers leave happy. read more

So after reading the good yelp reviews I was excited to try this place. However upon arriving and waiting for over an hour I quickly wished I had just left. Only two people work here so I understand having to wait....but the salon wasn't very clean or organized. My gel manicure is pretty thick and I had to shave down the edges when I got home. Also the sign said gel manicure for $25 but they charged me $37 and argued that the $25 was just for the polish not the manicure portion. I have been to WAY nicer establishments throughout DC for less than $37-come on. Didn't feel like spending anymore time there so I paid and left. Will definitely not be returning. My cuticles have seen the light! I started going here a few months ago for gel mani + pedi. I'm very particular about what actually qualifies as a good nail service, meaning I'm less about colors and bubbles and more about filing, shaping and smoothing rough patches of the hands and feet. In DC I find myself spending a lot of money on glorified foot-baths and "extra for callus remover" But at King they honestly care about making sure that they don't miss a thing! Ive had nothing but amazing long lasting no chip gel mani's and soft to the touch pedicures ready for summer sandal season. They have a decent selection of Gel polish. Not a place for immaculate gel art but you can get some unique colors. They've done an accent glitter nail for me before, I had a cool semi-marbleized effect and my friend had a really cool color changing polish recently! Btw this is all at no extra cost! I mean when I say they pay attention to detail! It's great considering outcome and price but you definitely have to be patient. They go as fast as they can but they do not rush and if you try to rush out they'll suggest that you better sit and let dry lol I only try to go there early mornings during the week. It's a small very tight spot 2-3 of them working at a time. You may find them trying to attend to multiple people at the same time but it's worth it if you have the time. read more

I checked this place out last Saturday because it's been 2 years since I've pampered myself. Yeah. Intense. Anyway, I chose this place because it was close to my gym and this place has the best reviews around where I live. It is a tiny salon but I arrived around 1:30 and I was the second customer. I waited maybe 10 minutes to get seated. After I sat down, more customers came in so I got there at the perfect time. The door is locked and they do have to let you in. The service is amazing. The two ladies and gentleman who did my mani/pedi/eyebrows were so attentive and nice. I spent about two hours here and it was great cause I was reading the entire time. The price is also the best I've seen. I'm impressed with the price as well as the service. I will definitely be back (maybe even make it a monthly visit!). read more

Shhhhh, don't tell anyone else, but I LOVE hood nail shops. You know those hole in the wall places that can only cater to 2-3 people at a time, plays rap music and the techs try to use African American vernacular? Yea, that really does it for me. I may look high maintenance, but inside I know that looking good doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. And that my $40 pedicure could have cost me $15 somewhere else. Furthermore, I don't feel the need to pay over $10 for a simple manni, anything over $10 is outrageous unless the techs use diamond water to cleanse my hands. You see, I am a DIYer and proud. The DMV made me realize that (1) services are overpriced, (2) attitudes suck and (3) I don't have time for nonsense. So when I need beauty services, I am very careful about where I go. Sure I had to park 5 blocks away and almost get knocked off the sideway by HH goers, but it was all worth it. My tech(s) were a father and daughter team who were efficient and friendly. The facility was clean and they have a lock on the door so the crazies can't enter after they stumble out of bars on H Street. No complaints. The cost for a pedi was $20, and mani $10. $30 for a mani + pedi sounds reasonable to me! Of course champagne wasn't served, or cold water, or sliced fruit, but hey, there are restaurants all over the place on H Street. Get something after your beauty treatment. They have TWO signs that say OPEN in the window, including the one that LIT UP. After paying to park and waking a few blocks, I can clearly see that they are doing nails, but their door is locked. They look up to shake their heads to say "no" indicating that they were closed. The kicker part was that I drove in front of the nail salon before parking to see if the "OPEN" sign was on before I paid to park and walked BLOCKS! Smh. Never again. read more

I got a really good pedicure here. They are very nice and you need to make an appointment. If you are able to get a walk-in be patient, it's worth it. They give each client quality attention. My toes looked fabulous. Their foot lotion needed to be more moisturizing for my feet though. Hence, 4 out of 5 stars. The proprietors are sweet, funny and never forget a face. They do very nice acrylic nails & fill-ins here. I came in for a fill-in after getting some super thick ass nails at Sky Nails on Bladensburg. I prefer my nails to be a bit thinner, and King Nails does a nice job with thin nails. After three weeks, they are pulling up a bit but they haven't cracked at all. The lady who did my nails was very attentive and careful while applying the acrylic. The nail art isn't amazing.... But in the end I'd rather have my tech focused on, you know, not shaving layers of cuticle skin off with a dremel. She also did a gel wrap over, which was also very thin - but again, has held up well. Very cheap, attentive service, and nicely done nails. Plus they are just really nice - and SUPER convenient to my home. read more

I usually go for coffin short nail and the lady was charging 40 which seemed high price for how the length was cut knowing I get it done for 35 and then asked me if I was Latin America I respond yes shortly after I told her my nail was shorter for it to be 40 but was willing to still pay then she replied "NEVERMIND I WILL TAKE OFF I have other costumer coming" which wasn't there yet and mind you I had set a appointment with her before reaching and got REJECTED for nothing. Today was my first time visiting Kings Salon and will definitely not be my last. I had the MOST attentive nail technician, Bey. She paid attention to details that I KNOW and have seen others in various nail salons just ignore or glaze over just to be able to say they did it. But not Bey. She made sure my manicure and pedicure was nothing short of perfect and my skin and cuticles soft. Lisa did my eyebrows and was great too. Take heed, it is a small shop and if you don't get there early enough, you can be asked to wait or return because of the few staff but it would be well worth it and very affordable. I came because of the other reviews left and agree that they take much pride in the satisfaction of their customers. This place does not have enough reviews! OKAY, I live in Los Angeles... the LAND of beautification and superficiality. So I know a good manicure/pedicure/wax, etc... and I'm accustomed to paying a decent amount for good work. BUT DC's pricing is nothing short of ridiculous. It's disturbed. I looked into prices for a full set of pink & whites or gel polish and places wanted between $45 and $67!!!! Those are resort spa prices!!!! Absolutely not. I found this place on Yelp and tried it out....VERY IMPRESSED! I got a full set gel manicure and a pedicure for $53 total... prices I'm accustomed to paying, that I think are reasonable. The woman was friendly and they were able to accommodate me immediately when I stopped by at about 5pm on a weekday. I am VERY happy with this place and will be returning. Do not waste your time at an overpriced wannabe boutique so that you can sit waiting to get seated for 45 minutes and get a free champagne flute. This place is no-frills (and on a sketchy block), but WORTH it for pricing and quality. *One thing - they DON'T do pink&whites. THANK YOU King Nails! My go to place, they do an amazing job every time. When I cant get to her I typically just go without. My only complaint, is that with the gentrification of the neighborhood... sometimes there is too much focus on appeasing the new DC transplants, instead of pleasing the droves of long time customers who have come there for years, & arrive at the shop before them. If its busy, they can sit & wait just like the rest of us. However if you choose to jump thru hoops for customers, don't just do it for some. read more

This location compares to a NYC nail spot. The nail techs don't try to rush through but pay attention to every detail. And they take walk ins! There are only two nail techs so the wait times may be long but totally worth it. If looking for a quick shape and polish change, say so. One of the place i recommend to go in H street area. Even thou the salon is small and not as fancy looking the result came out fabulous. The lady at the salon is very artistic, i was clueless with the design i want for my nails so she freestyle's it which i end loving it. I have been going to King Nails for years. Lisa who does my nails is very personable to your needs and does an excellent job. The prices are reasonable and she is very detailed in her work. The pedicures are awesome, and she is affordable and friendly, listen I have tried those "nice looking" and I mean "nice looking" nail salons that are over priced and does not give "you" the individual the time you deserve when you paying spa prices. I came in around 6:30 PM on a Friday for a pedicure, and since there are only two pedi chairs (both of which were occupied), I ended up waiting some 20-30 minutes. The salon itself is not the nicest to look at, but the pedicure itself turned out great. The nail tech took care to ask me before doing anything - whether cutting, using the razor, filing, etc. - and she did a meticulous job. Everyone was extremely nice and attentive. The nail polish they have on the racks seems a little cheap (no OPI brand here), but I found a color I like and am happy with the job. And at just $20 for a pedi, I'm willing to forgo the fancier trappings of some of the nicer salons in towns. read more
