I go here twice a month at least. I adore this place - it is just a jump from my apartment building and very convenient. They already know me by name. I've taken several friends with me and they always leave raving. I've never had such great pedicures at such a low price. Imagine it: massage chairs, salt rubs, lotion, massage, paraffin wax, cut, buffing, sanding, and polish. The whole nine yards and for a measly 25 dollars! It is unreal to have such a nice spa pedicure for a low price. The manicures have all the bells and whistles too - only 15 dollars. I've also had my share of different wax procedures done. This place may have outdone the fabulous pedicures I'm used to getting at Annie's in Georgetown. V Nails is certainly nothing fancy but for $25 I wouldn't expect fancy. It seems very clean and the pedicure could not have been better...which are the two things that matter the most. I went to v nail today and I would have to say my experience was just ...okay. I had a rough week at work and decided to treat myself, I was also feeling a light naughty and decided to cheat on my my regular salon and try someplace else....who am I kidding, some place a little cheaper. I see the glowing reviews on yelp wasted no time calling for an appointment for this evening after work. I found the location with no problem and was immediately seated in the pedicure chair. It's true that their color selection leaves a lot to be desired but I always bring my own colors anyway so that didn't bother me. The place is small but it looked very clean and the tools were sanitized and enclosed in its own package which was great. The tech was nice enough and she seem to be doing a though job on my tootsies. Here is where things go slightly left. She couldn't seem to paint my nails without getting polish on my cuticles. She was trying to clean it off but it was looking more smudged then anything. She managed it get them looking okay, but my big toe on my right food still looks smudged and it is not filed evenly. The. I was placed at the drying table and just left there like a sack of garbage. The tech didn't come back to check on me or to make sure that my nails we dry or anything. That is a peeve of mine. I am your client until I pay no leave and I feel like she should have came back to check on me and make sure that I am okay. That bothered me a lot. I'm not sure if it is worth it to come back here. I made an appointment here for acrylics for my girls' wedding (I was a bridesmaid) I asked for a silver/green French manicure combo with one rhinestone on each ring finger and it was a disaster. I've heard plain gels here are great, but my acrylics were thick, bulbous, and attached to my finger pads. When I asked for the one rhinestone, she insisted on a "design" which turned into a weird daisy chain. The lines were really sloppy. I had to fix it the next day at Enchanted Nails. Being my first visit, I called ahead and made an appointment for 6:15 pm same day (Tuesday). I showed up before 6 pm and was quickly ushered to the back and up a few stairs. The woman who did my eyebrows chatted with me politely and took her time doing my eyebrows. She said they accept walk ins but some people don't like to wait and prefer making appointments instead. If you walk in, just be patient and prepared to wait, she told me, but I didn't think of it as an issue yesterday. For $8, my eyebrows were shaped and waxed. I thought she did a good job, especially given how I usually have no shape in the region and how she patiently tweezed, cut, and waxed my eyebrows. Having read fellow Yelp reviews, I made sure to bring cash and before I left, I turned to the technician and asked whether I should pay her now/give her tip or do it at the front desk. Definitely make sure to bring cash to tip. She saw me pull out a $20 bill and gave me a $10, a $5, and five $1s. I left $2 with her for tip, paid $8 to the man in the front and was out the door. Based on a neighbor's glowing recommendation, I tried out V Nails for a mani/pedi. The place doesn't look like much from the outside nestled among the Vietnamese restaurant, Senor Chicken and a Dominican carry-out, but is very conveniently located on Park Rd, just around the corner from the Target in Columbia Heights. The staff was all very friendly. The salon was clean and they seemed to take all utensils out from individual sanitary bags. They have those great, automated massage chairs for the pedicures that compress and contract from your hips to your shoulders. They have a full range of OPI & Essie polishes. Lynn, the person who did my nails, was thorough, quick and did an amazingly flawless job. The standard service also includes a massage and paraffin dip for both feet & hands. I was able to walk in after work with no appointment at 6:30 and get a mani/pedi and was out by 8 and $40 for a mani/pedi just can't be beat! read more

The space is rather cramped, but again- very standard for DC. New favorite! Folks, this isn't a Day Spa. If you're expecting a private nail suite with Aromatherapy and portraits of dolphins leaping into the sunset, you're going to be disappointed. However, I *loved* this place and expect to be back often. I went in the late afternoon, right around rush hour, and while there were already four people getting manis or pedis, I didn't have to wait. One of the pedicures was a man, so if you're a dude with horrible goat hooves and you want to get your salon on, you will be fine as long as you're polite and you tip. No gender-based side-eye here. The decor is a little dated and cluttered, but the massage chairs are A++ top of the line. Everyone spoke excellent English (not sure why other reviewers complained?) and the nail technicians are obsessively sterile. That's my primary worry at budget walk-in places: hygiene. It doesn't matter how great your feet look if you have MRSA. But there was no fungus among us! All the tools came straight from the autoclave and the water was treated with antibacterial tablets before I even put my feet in. The color selection was excellent - I got wild and went for glittery gold - and the price was quite reasonable for DC ($30 including tip for a spa-style pedi with paraffin dip, leg massage, exfoliation, etc.) I intend to go back as often as my budget allows, and would not hesitate to bring guests here for pre-night-on-the-town glamming. I came here this past Saturday morning while there were not that many people at the nail salon just to get a quick eyebrow waxing before heading to Target. I've been here once before and had a decent experience and the women who did my eyebrows before did a good job. I walk in and told the man at reception I just need a eyebrow waxing and he tells me I need to have cash. I'm so annoyed at this point because I don't remember that being their policy. I can't remember if I paid with cash or a credit card the last time I was there for my eyebrows, but it shouldn't matter. This was a great inconveinence to me but it didn't seem to matter to him. So I leave decided to go to Target and get cash back at checkout. I came back to the salson about 30mins later when it's packed and the same man tells me I would need to wait 30 mins to get my eyebrows waxed. Needless to say, I walked right back out the door. At that point, they did not deserve my business or money. I truly don't care for places of business that are not accommodating to their customers. It's called customer service, which they seem to only use on their regulars. I thought I could use this place as my second go-to nail salon for when I need a quick eyebrow waxing or even a pedicure, when I didn't feel like going all the way to Enchanted Nails or Nailtrix, but I was wrong. The customer service here could make a girl forget her degrees and home training and let fly... "Meh" Pedicures- The pedicures were 'meh,' at best. They were hurried (minimal attention to cuticles, no callous removal, no massage). I had to debate a woman who insisted that pushing and trimming the cuticles only made them ragged. No. Going to a bad nail salon makes them ragged. Nightmare Customer Service- I get a pink acrylic overlay on my ultra thin nails so they'll hold a polish (even gel polish doesn't stay). After a few visits they talked me out of the acrylic and into (the more expensive) gel set. Throughout the application, I expressed concern there were spaces between the gel and the nail. Within 3 days I had 4 broken nails. I went in to have them fixed. They were busy and started to prep my broken nails. The tech then stopped and the manager came over to tell me they couldn't do my nails because the person who did gel was not in. I now have 4 bare, thin, unpolished nails. They offered to do acrylic instead! Keeping in mind that gel is time-consuming, I asked if it was a time issue or that they really didn't have anyone (of the 12+ people working) who could do it? That's when it all went down hill. They abruptly, and without explanation to the other customer, pulled a tech from a woman's manicure (I apologized to the woman because that was not my intent or desire. She apologized to me for their behavior). The tech did a terrible rush job on my nails. They looked terrible (I had to replace them again a week later). To make it less pleasant, they sat over me and talked smack the whole time. Not "I don't speak Vietnamese so I assume everyone around me speaking Vietnamese is talking smack," but actually berating me. The owner blamed me for not telling the woman who initially did my nails there was an issue (which I had); for not telling them my nails were gel not acrylic (which I had); and for not coming in on a day they were less busy (I had no idea the service THEY recommended was only allowed during certain hours). I was running late and still wanted to tip (I'm not interested in anyone providing a service to me for less than minimum wage, even if it's subpar). They wouldn't let me add it to the card and I had to run in the rain to get cash. Never again will I step foot in this place. Never. read more

IF YOU NEED/EXPECT YOUR NAILS TO LAST FOR MORE THAN A WEEK DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I received the WORST gel manicure TWICE. (I know your thinking well why would you ever go back!) The first time I received a gel manicure the polish chipped within the first week. I thought maybe it was my fault, I wasn't mindful of my nails when I was doing stuff and I hadn't had a gel manicure in years! However, the second time on DAY 3 I had gel peeling off of 4 nails!!! I thought now this is absurd, I am on vacation and I am not doing anything abnormal. By DAY 7 when I finally had a chance to go back to the nail shop, I now had 6 out 10 nails with chipped gel polish. Upon my arrival back in town I immediately go to shop and tell them my issue about my gel polish peeling off in less than a week and the man tells me to come back tomorrow so I wouldn't have to wait an hour for someone to help me. i go back the next day and the man I spoke with isn't there, so I re explain my story and even show them the pictures I took. The older lady says well maybe its your fault your nails must be weak. However NONE of my real nails were broken so I kept asking, "is the polish old?" She says, "No it must be your fault, nothing wrong with our polish!" I am the only customer in the shop with 8 nail techs . All of them are coming up to me taking pictures of my hand and speaking to each other in their native language and literally LAUGHING. The feeling of disrespect by this time is at an all time high. I am livid of course I explained how the older guy from yesterday told me to come back and he would fix everything. The lady says, "only thing I can do for you is put more of the same color on you." I decline and just tell them to take this off my hands. By the time I leave its literally 3 of them yelling at me telling me its not their fault and my nails are weak and that I should just get the same color. I was getting over talked and blamed for their indiscretions. When the truth is their polishes are OLD and need to be discarded. So save yourself the trouble! This place is a hit/miss for me. The first time I went, it was a amazing (which is why I returned). The second time was AWFUL. The first time I came for a manicure/pedicure. I was there for almost two hours which only bothered me because I parked in a "Pay to Park" area and I did not think it would take that long. Outside of that it was a great experience. They have a decent selection of OPI nail colors, including one of my favorite discontinued shades. The tech was very attentive and did a great job on my hands and my feet. Both my manicure and pedicure lasted a VERY long time without a single chip or scuff. I decided to come back because, hey I had a good experience and it was close to my job. I'm guessing that the closer you get to closing time is when they bring out their 2nd and 3rd string techs. I showed up around 7 pm. I wanted a pedicure and was there for a total of 30 minutes - half the time of my original pedicure AND including wait time. The amount of time spent on the pedicure wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't indicative of the poor quality of the job. THIS technician rushed through the job, plunged my poor peddies in EXTREMELY hot parrafin which she then rushed off, leaving some wax on my feet, and hurried to the painting. ANY time I have to remind a nail tech to use a base coat, I have to reconsider whether they know what they are doing. When I left, moments later my soles began to peel from the paraffin wax treatment. They looked like I had changed the polish then ran barefoot on Park Rd to my car. Less than a week later, I can see scuffs and chips in the job. I was SO disappointed seeing as I had such a great experience the previous time. So while I may or may not return to this place, at least now I know that it's a toss up between the good and evil of pedicures. I recently moved to the area and wanted to get a regular manicure. This place had great reviews so I gave it a try and I'm so glad I did. I can see why some may think the owner is rude - he doesn't make conversation nor is he overly welcoming but I could care less. My nails look great and the price was awesome for the area. My favorite part of the mani was having my hands dipped in hot wax, something I've never had done before but loved. I saw several reviews about the 'eyebrow lady' and that a wax was only $8 so I added that in while I was there. I've never had my eyebrows waxed before and was pretty nervous as she trimmed and clipped and ripped my hair out but I couldn't be happier with the outcome. I told her how I liked them and she did a great job meeting my requests and making me feel comfortable as a first-timer. I'll definitely be back! $23 for brows & mani well spent. read more

I've been coming here ever since I moved from SF two years ago to get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed now. I'm not the sort of person who expects luxury spa treatment just to get my eyebrows done, so this is my kind of place - in and out, real fast. My friend the 'eyebrow lady' (whose name I would have spelled incorrectly!) is always cheerful and kind to me, no matter how busy it is, in addition to being super efficient and making sure the pain is minimal. For the affordable price, it's incredibly well worth it, and I know I can always rely on her to come through and make even my unfortunately uneven eyebrows look as groomed as they possibly can. My go-to place to keep my lady fingers (and toes) looking ladylike. The place is packed on the weekends so try to come early if not during the workday. But do come because this place is heart! From the wonderful massage chairs, to the really thorough scrubbing your feet is going to get, to the paraffin that comes standard with your $40 mani-pedi! It's just fantastic! Great nail shop in my 'hood. Lan did my mani/pedi yesterday, she's super sweet and did a very great job. One thing I love about this place is you get a paraffin wax with any nail service. Also, the pedi includes a scrub - great way to unwind and massage my sore shins! My skin was buttery smooth afterwards. The massage chairs are intense - either my back is extremely tense or the massage mechanisms are strong as heck but it did the trick! Not so much relaxing as it was long overdue and slightly painful (similar to a really good deep tissue massage). The mani/pedis last a long time whenever I go here - most times my regular mani lasts ~2 weeks and pedi lasts a month. For $40 I am very happy with the results. One drawback is the colors - I wish they had a bigger selection (Color Nail & Spa in Dupont has the best selection I have seen so far). This place is relatively small (about 7 pedicure chairs and 7 manicure tables) so Mondays and Tuesdays are your best bet. read more

I wanted a French manicure. While the manicure itself was OK (had an air bubble on one nail right at the white border which looked bad), I could not understand my nail tech at all. She kept saying something every few minutes but I just stared at her blankly, I had to ask her to repeat 3 or 4 times, and I finally realized she was trying to upsell me to a wax treatment of some kind. I don't think you can get a $25 pedicure that includes a parafin wax any where else in the city, so don't even try looking. Just head over to V Nails, and expect a packed nail salon, but a relaxing experience with techs that pay attention to detail. I cannot complain about my visit... I went in on a Saturday afternoon, without an appointment, and was seated in less than 5 minutes. The massage and pedicure were very nice and my nail polish lasted more than 2 weeks. This place is as good as it gets for a good pedicure in DC without going to some fancy smancy spa. I always get the mani/pedi- $40. They are very thorough and do a great job with cuticles and making sure your heels are smooth. I give them five stars because the have some added extras that most places around don't do- like paraffin dip on your feet and your hands, a serious salt scrub on your legs, and the best message chairs you ever did see. I never been in a massage chair that rubs the back, massages the hips and the buns. Once you get over the feeling that the chair is in overdrive you really do relax quite a bit! I usually luck out and find parking right in front (Jesus loves me clearly). The staff is professional and they have a great selection of colors to chose from. Still driving from dwtn SS for this place because no one in the area can beat them in my book! FYI- Cash tips only. Five stars for Ann who does waxing only. Prices are great and she is very fastidious and client satisfaction oriented. She's my go-to now that I've moved. Ann prefers that you get bikini waxing done before mani and pedi. Three generous stars for atmosphere. It's not a high end salon or even a medium, but they get the job done. Have had one gel mani/pedi by (Pip? ) it's my first gel mani/pedi so I can't compare to anything else. What I did appreciate is that she didn't pinch any of my cuticles! Just got back from a very good experience at V Nails & Spa. I've been trying to find a closer spot to home to get my nails done for when my go-to manicurist in Dupont Circle is unavailable. After reading the reviews on Yelp, I knew to ask for Gia & I'm glad I did. She was very thorough & professional & my nails look great. The hot paraffin wax was a nice surprise & was included in the $15 cost of the manicure. I chose a hot pink color called "Warhol" by Color Club & it looks super bright in the sunshine! They do a great job. I'm not an expert, but my nails look nice. They take their time. My nails come out looking swell. Went to V Nails Spa with my roommate after it was recommended to her by a friend. I was shocked that I hadn't heard about it before, especially with their $25 pedicures. I was helped by a very nice lady Kathy who removed the gel pedicure I had gotten a few weeks back and was accommodating. My nails turned out well, which is great. They use a bunch of extra soaps and lotions that you usually pay extra for at places like Mimosa on Connecticut. My two qualms: they didn't tell me it would cost me $5 to remove my gel pedi. Would've been fine with it, I would just rather know what I'm paying for. Also this place is pretty cramped. I ruined my nails getting off the chair on my way to dry my nails and the pedicurist had to redo two, which was annoying. All in all though, great bang for your buck! *This place is quite hidden, I swear I would've never known about it even though I'm all about affordable aesthetic options. This might be the worst pedi I've ever gotten. To start with, the chairs are old and are more of a shaking vibration (with some audible pops) than a massage. The technician who helped me was very nice but did a very cursory job. She hardly filed my feet. She didn't clip my nails or even offer to. The best part-the calf massage-was nearly non-existent. She put a little lotion on my legs and called it a day. It's my own fault for not waiting long enough and smudging the polish. Overall, I feel like I just wasted $30. read more

Sure, it was cheap, and yes, they had a nice selection of colors, but the (admittedly very kind) lady spent all of two minutes on my feet - when I *knew* I had dead skin that needed some work. I stopped coming here and now I remember why. The women do not listen to what you want. I wanted short, liquid gel nails. I wanted them to look natural. She used tips, which they've never used on me. They were long and she trimmed them only slightly. They were uneven and she didn't use the gel top coat, even though I was charged for it. No wax, no lotion - nothing. I just moved to Columbia Heights from Takoma Park, and have been trying to find a spot to replace the TKPK nail salon I've been patronizing for 10 years. This will not be that spot. I came for a mani/ pedi and eyebrow wax after reading mostly good reviews, and despite the price, which was nearly double what I'd been paying in TKPK. The place is easy to miss, especially with the construction going on around it. I was immediately disappointed by their nail color selection, so I would highly recommend bringing your own if you are picky about color. Once the technician started, I realized the price was higher because it was a paraffin wax treatment, which I'd never had. The manicure and pedicure turned out well. The technician was very attentive and detail oriented, even though I'd just had a mani/ pedi the week before. The eyebrow was was awful. First, I asked the technician to to the wax *before* the manicure, so I wouldn't be a red-faced when I left. She said sure, and then went on starting my manicure. I don't know if it was a translation issue, or if she just had a specific order in mind. When she did wax my eyebrows, I ended up with crooked brows, as she waxed a sizable chunk out of one eyebrow. When I showed here, using sticks to demonstrate how misaligned they were, she moved the sticks and told me they were fine. They were not, and I told her it looked awful. She suggested trying to even it up by waxing more. Um, no. I demanded the money back for the waxing, and went to buy a brow pencil. I don't know that I will return, even for the wonderful mani-ped, because I really like to do everything at once. If you are only looking for nails, this place is fine. They now have a 10-day guarantee on their shellac, so you can come back and get free service if a nail chips or peels during that time. Ann has been waxing my eyebrows since I moved to DC six years ago. She's skilled and precise: Her waxing service itself is as close to painless as you can get. Nice color selection, good job for my gel fill in & eyebrows & friendly nail techs. Pedicure chairs are really nice but the salon is kind of small & cramped. Lady who did my eyebrows was good. Good prices but tip has to be in cash or venom. Wish there was more space & stations were more spread out. read more

Can't beat an $8 eyebrow wax! I never have to schedule an appointment. I always walk in and within a second they have me walking toward the back for a quick yet thorough eyebrow wax. This place is overrated. I got my nails done here by "janey" twice. She's very rude and impatient, & both times they barely lasted 10 days. I thought it was something I did the first time so I went back because the first set was polished and shaped exactly how i asked. The second time she rushed me out the seat to do a gel for another customer. She is also extremely rude, and is not willing to discuss anything you want to do with your nails. I was in the process of picking which color rhinestones I wanted to go with my polish and after being told someone wanted a gel manicure she snapped at me and told me "you better hurry up." That was my last straw, I left her chair and paid. My second set which was done by her exactly 7 days ago was not done well at all, on my right hand 3 nails have cracked off. Its possible the other techs are good butI'm not going to chance it. Bottom line: they're not worth it. read more
